What is Apotheosis?

1 part

Apotheosis is a content mod that makes you stronger through RPG-like progression while staying close to vanilla mechanics. This pack includes version 8.8.0. The adventure part of the mod is what gives you Affixes, Gems and World Tiers, plus procedurally generated loot with powerful bonuses (and tougher foes to go with it).[1][2][3]

Affixes can strengthen any item, from vanilla or other mods, and each affix item has a Rarity that decides which affixes it gets and how strong they are. Some items also have sockets for Gems. World Tiers are a progression system with five steps, from Haven up to Pinnacle, and higher tiers mean better loot but stronger enemies.[1]

The crafting side revolves around a few stations. The Salvaging Table breaks affix items down into rarity materials, the Reforging Table line lets you make new affixes on an item, and the Augmenting Table is the end-game tool for perfecting individual affixes.[1][4][5][6]

Where it sits in the quest book

The Apotheosis quests live in the "Gearing Up" chapter. It is in the "Exploration & Combat" group and is chapter 14 of 31 in the book, with 94 quests. The chapter intro, "Gearing Up For Adventure!" quest, says it is about crafting, enhancing and enchanting the gear you need for adventures. Other mods share the chapter too, such as Relics, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks and Cognition.[7]

The Apotheosis line starts with "Apothic Gems!" quest, which has no prerequisite listed. It points you to the Chronicle of Shadows guide book if you feel lost. From there the order is:[7]

  1. "Apothic World Tiers" quest and "Understanding Affix items" quest both come after Apothic Gems![7]
  2. "Gems" quest comes after both of those, and asks you for Gem Dust.[7]
  3. Several quests branch off Gems: "Gem Case" quest, "Simple Reforging Table" quest, "Sigil of Unnaming" quest, "Sigil of Withdrawal" quest, "Sigil of Socketing" quest and "The Salvaging Table" quest.[7]
  4. "Reforging Table" quest follows the Simple Reforging Table quest.[7]
  5. "Augmenting Items" quest follows The Salvaging Table quest.[7]

The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path. The text of 57 more quests in the Gearing Up chapter is not covered here, so check the quest book itself for the rest of that chapter.[7]

How do you get started with Apotheosis?

6 parts

Apotheosis lives in the "Gearing Up" chapter of the quest book (group "Exploration & Combat", chapter 14 of 31). It starts with "Apothic Gems!" quest, and "Understanding Affix items" quest and "Apothic World Tiers" quest both come right after it. The order below follows those quests. Some of the chapter's quests aren't covered here, so check the book for the rest.[7]

Step one: find an affix item and some gems

Affix items are gear with extra bonuses. You find them in loot chests and as drops from monsters. Your first one unlocks the Haven World Tier, which is already active. Later tiers must be unlocked and then activated from the tier screen, which opens with CTRL+T by default.[1][7][8][9]

Next, "Gems" quest tells you to fight monsters or explore for gems. Crush a few of them with an anvil to get Gem Dust, which most of the crafting below needs.[7][10]

Step two: make a Salvaging Table

The quest calls this the first thing to make with your dust. The Salvaging Table breaks affix items down into rarity materials, and once you have it you can use it on gems instead of the anvil. The pack changed this recipe, so trust the one below rather than the mod's default.[1][7][10][11]

Step four: the Simple Reforging Table

"Simple Reforging Table" quest lets you reforge any valid item with brand new affixes, as many times as you like. The Simple Reforging Table handles items up to Rare rarity. You spend rarity materials from your salvaging, plus experience and sigils. The pack changed this recipe too.[5][7][11]

How does Apotheosis work?

8 parts

Apotheosis is built around a handful of crafting stations that turn affix items and gems into other materials and back again. Once you know what each station eats and what it gives you, the whole loop makes sense: break things down, spend the results on reforging, cutting or augmenting, and store what is left over. Here is how each piece works in this pack.[4][5][6][12]

Salvaging Table

The Salvaging Table breaks affix items down into Rarity Materials. The material you get depends on the rarity of the item you put in, and those materials are the currency for reforging and gem cutting.[1][4]

The same table also salvages gems into Gem Dust, but only after you have made your first dust by hand. Drop an Apothic Gem in the world and let an anvil fall on it. The project page says your first two dust need to come from anvil-crushed gems, and after that you can use the Salvaging Table.[1][8][10]

Reforging

Reforging gives an item brand new affixes. It works on any valid item, including ones with no affixes yet, and you can reforge the same item more than once. You start with the Simple Reforging Table, which handles items up to Rare. To reforge Epic or higher you upgrade it into the Reforging Table.[5]

The table has three input slots. The item goes in the center, Rarity Materials for the rarity you want go in the top-left slot, and Sigil of Rebirth go in the bottom-right slot as fuel. Like an enchanting table, you get three choices, and none is inherently stronger. Each rarity has a base cost in experience, sigils and materials. The extra choice slots charge double and triple that base cost.[5][11]

Tip: The guide notes that modpacks can change reforging costs or prevent reforging at certain rarities, so read the costs shown on the table before you commit materials.[5]

Gems, sockets and cutting

Every gem has a Purity from Cracked to Perfect. Purity alone sets the gem's strength, and a Perfect gem cannot be upgraded any further. The Gem Cutting Table does the upgrading. A typical upgrade costs Gem Dust, Rarity Materials and a second gem of the same purity. Costs rise with purity, and JEI shows the exact numbers.[8][12][14]

To socket a gem, combine it with the item in a Smithing Table. Each gem lists the items it fits, and some gems are Unique, so only one copy fits per item. To pull gems back out, combine the socketed item with a Sigil of Withdrawal in a smithing table. The item and all its gems come back. If an item has no sockets at all, the Sigil of Socketing is what adds them.[1][14]

Gem Case

The Gem Case is bulk storage for gems. It holds up to thirty two thousand gems of each type and purity, and it has a name filter and an item filter, so you can search for a gem or for gems that fit a certain item.[13]

It also has six auxiliary slots for upgrade materials. With enough materials and gems inside, you can upgrade gems right in the case, which the guide says effectively obsoletes the Gem Cutting Table.[13]

Augmenting Table

The Augmenting Table is an end-game station for upgrading or rerolling single affixes while leaving the rest of the item alone. The upper slot takes the affix item. The guide suggests Mythic items, and says Epic ones are worth considering too. The lower slot takes Sigil of Enhancement as fuel. You pick the affix you want from a drop-down menu.[6]

  • Upgrade: costs two Sigils of Enhancement and raises the internal strength of the chosen affix by 25%. How much that helps depends on the affix.[6]
  • Reroll: costs one Sigil of Enhancement and swaps the affix for another of the same type. The alternatives are listed on the left.[6]

Infusion Enchanting

Infusion Enchanting is a crafting method done through the enchanting table. Each infusion recipe has a single item input and three stat requirements. Most requirements have a minimum, and some also have a maximum. Infusions only use the third slot and let you over-spend experience. Put the item in, and if your stats are right the third slot lights up. Click it to perform the infusion.[15]

Several things in this section depend on it. The God-Fused Pearl is infused from a Godforged Pearl, and the Infused Spawner Rune is infused from a Spawner Rune.[11]

Enchantment Library

The Enchantment Library stores enchantments as points when you insert enchanted books. Each library has a Level Capacity, and anything above it is voided. Click a stored enchantment to extract one level, or shift-click to extract as many levels as possible. The library remembers the highest level ever inserted for each enchantment and can only extract up to that. The standard library has a Level Capacity of sixteen. The Library of Alexandria has thirty-one and must be made through Infusion Enchanting.[17]

How do you progress through Apotheosis?

7 parts

Apotheosis progression in this pack runs on two tracks that feed each other: the World Tier, which sets how tough and how rewarding the world is, and your gear and enchanting setup. The pack's quest book covers both in the Gearing Up chapter (group Exploration & Combat, chapter 14 of 31). It opens with "Apothic Gems!" quest, which is also where you are pointed to the Chronicle of Shadows, the mod's guide book.[7]

The five World Tiers

A World Tier is a per-player strength modifier for the world. There are five: Haven, Frontier, Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle. Each one raises the difficulty and the rewards, and higher rarities (and Invaders) become more common as you climb.[18]

Unlocking a tier does not switch it on. You have to open the World Tier Select screen (the keybind defaults to CTRL+T), click the tier's symbol and press Activate. You can switch tiers whenever you like, and the Detailed Info button shows that tier's rarity weights and augments. The quest "Apothic World Tiers" quest points you to this menu.[7][9]

How tiers unlock

  • Haven: enabled by default, but you won't see it until you pick up your first Affix Item.[19]
  • Frontier: equip an Affix Item in each armor slot and hold an Affixed Weapon in either hand.[19]
  • Ascent: equip a full set of Uncommon Affix Items, including a weapon, and slay an Apothic Invader.[19]
  • Summit: have a full set of Rare Affix Items and slay the Wither.[19]
  • Pinnacle: obtain a full set of Epic items and slay the Ender Dragon.[19]
Watch out: Those are the default requirements from the mod's own guide, and it warns that modpacks can change them. The sources here do not show whether this pack did, so check the "Apothic World Tiers" advancements tab in game for the real list.[19]

Gear progression in the quest book

After "Apothic Gems!" quest the chapter splits into "Understanding Affix items" quest, which explains what an Affix is, and "Apothic World Tiers" quest. Both lead into the "Gems" quest quest, which is the hub for the rest of your crafting stations. It asks for Gem Dust, which you get by crushing gems with an anvil, and says the first thing to make with it is a Salvaging Table.[7]

The Salvaging Table breaks affix items down into rarity materials. Common gives Mysterious Scrap Metal, Uncommon gives Timeworn Fabric, Rare gives Luminous Crystal Shard, Epic gives Arcane Sands and Mythic gives Godforged Pearl. You will need these materials later for reforging. The pack changed the Salvaging Table recipe, so use this one rather than a recipe you remember from the base mod.[7][11]

End-game: Augmenting

"Augmenting Items" quest follows the Salvaging Table quest and is the end-game station. The Augmenting Table upgrades a single affix for two Sigil of Enhancement, adding 25% to its strength, or rerolls an affix for one Sigil. The mod's guide suggests focusing on items of at least Mythic rarity, though Epic ones are worth considering.[6][7]

Enchanting levels

The same chapter walks you through the enchanting overhaul, starting with "The Secrets of Enchanting" quest. It introduces three stats: Eterna sets the maximum enchant level, Quanta controls randomness, and Arcana controls rarity and how many enchants you get.[7]

Once your Eterna is maxed, "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest has you craft the Raven table, which needs a God-Fused Pearl. It lets you set Eterna, Quanta and Arcana by hand with no shelves.[7][11]

Spawner upgrades

Spawner upgrades live in a different chapter, Generating Resources (group Resources & Logistics, chapter 8 of 31), in the quest "Spawner Farms" quest. Exploding a spawner drops Spawner Chain, which you use to craft upgrades. The quest warns that advanced spawner upgrades need a more advanced enchanting setup. The pack changed the recipe for the Wayfarer's Spawner Upgrade Rune.[11][23]

How does Apotheosis work with other mods?

3 parts

Apotheosis is not a one-mod island in this pack. Its items show up in recipes for Gateways, Actually Additions, Tropicraft and the pack's own items, and its sibling module Apothic Enchanting plugs straight into its crafting. Here's where the connections are.[1][11]

Apothic Enchanting

Apotheosis is split into several modules, and Apothic Enchanting is the one that overhauls enchanting. The two share ingredients. The Enchanting Table of the Raven is crafted from the Apotheosis God-Fused Pearl and the Apothic Enchanting Table.[1][11]

The quest book covers this in the quest "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest, in the chapter "Gearing Up" (group "Exploration & Combat", chapter 14 of 31). It comes after the quest "Level 100 Enchanting". The quest text also mentions the Not Enough Patterns mod, which lets you connect an AE2 Pattern Provider directly to the Table of the Raven and process enchanting from your ME Network.[7]

Apothic Enchanting items also go into the two spawner upgrade runes. The Mountaineer's Spawner Upgrade Rune needs a Warden Tendril, and the Thundering Spawner Upgrade Rune needs Infused Dragon's Breath.[11]

Gateways

The Gate Pearl from Gateways has three recipes in the Apotheosis namespace, one each for the Ascent, Summit and Pinnacle tiers. All three use Apotheosis items, and the Pinnacle one also uses Apothic Enchanting items. The pack has changed the Ascent recipe from the mod's version, so check the one below rather than assuming the default.[11]

Pack-added recipes

The pack adds two recipes of its own that reach into Apotheosis. The first makes a Coconut with an Actually Additions empowering recipe, and it needs a Godforged Pearl. The quest book says Godforged Pearls are what Mythic items give when you break them down in the Salvaging Table.[7][11]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Apotheosis?

3 parts

Apotheosis shows up in two chapters of the quest book. Most of it is in "Gearing Up", in the Exploration & Combat group (chapter 14 of 31). A smaller part is in "Generating Resources", in the Resources & Logistics group (chapter 8 of 31).[7][23]

Gearing Up: affixes, gems and reforging

The chapter opens with "Gearing Up For Adventure!" quest, which says the chapter is about crafting, enhancing and enchanting the gear you need on your adventures. The Apotheosis gear line then runs in this order:[7]

  1. "Apothic Gems!" quest is a checkmark quest that introduces the mod. It explains that items and mobs can carry special Affixes, and it points you to the Chronicle of Shadows, the mod's guide book.[7]
  2. "Understanding Affix items" quest and "Apothic World Tiers" quest both come after it. The first explains what an Affix is. The second covers the World Tier system, where you start at Haven once you get your first Affix item.[7]
  3. "Gems" quest unlocks after both of those and asks for Gem Dust. Its text says gems can be crushed by an anvil to make Gem Dust, and that the first thing to make with the dust is a Salvaging Table.[7]
  4. Several quests branch off the gems quest: "Gem Case" quest (the Gem Case), "Simple Reforging Table" quest (the Simple Reforging Table), "Sigil of Socketing" quest, "Sigil of Withdrawal" quest, "Sigil of Unnaming" quest and "The Salvaging Table" quest.[7]
  5. "Reforging Table" quest follows the Simple Reforging Table quest. It asks for the Reforging Table and the Sigil of Rebirth.[7]
  6. "Augmenting Items" quest follows the Salvaging Table quest. It asks for the Augmenting Table and the Sigil of Enhancement.[7]

A few details from those quests. The Gem Case is described as a direct upgrade to the Gem Cutting Table. The Simple Reforging Table only reforges items up to Rare rarity, and the Reforging Table is the upgrade that handles all rarities, Mythic included. The Sigil of Socketing adds Gem Sockets to an Affix item, and the Sigil of Withdrawal removes all socketed gems without damaging the item. The Sigil of Unnaming quest has no text in the book, it just asks for the Sigil of Unnaming.[7]

The Salvaging Table quest asks for the Salvaging Table plus one of the rarity materials, which come from breaking down affix items. The Augmenting Table is called an end-game crafting station. Upgrading an Affix costs two Sigils of Enhancement for a 25% boost, and rerolling one costs a single sigil.[7]

Gearing Up: the enchanting line

"The Secrets of Enchanting" quest asks for a vanilla enchanting table and explains that Apotheosis rebuilds enchanting around three values: Eterna, Quanta and Arcana. Several quests unlock right after it: "Enchantment Library" quest, "Miscellaneous Shelves" quest, "Hotswapping Enchantments" quest, "Stabilizing Your Enchantments" quest, "Bookshelf Extended Enchantment Reach" quest and the first shelf upgrade, "Upgraded Shelves" quest.[7]

The main shelf chain then goes like this:[7]

  1. "Upgraded Shelves" quest targets 45 Eterna by reaching the Frontier World Tier, using the Hellshelf and Seashelf.[7]
  2. "Hellshelf Infusion" quest asks for the infused versions. After it come "Filtering Unwanted Enchants" quest, "Hellshelf of Masterful Sight" quest and a second "Upgraded Shelves" quest, which sets 60 Eterna, 40 Quanta and 40 Arcana as the goal and needs the Ascent World Tier.[7]
  3. "Venturing Deeper" quest asks for Deepshelves and the Summit World Tier, which can push Eterna to a max of 75.[7]
  4. "Achieving Enlightenment" quest is the final shelf tier, locked behind infusing Dragon's Breath. It calls for 80 Eterna, at least 60 Arcana and between 15 and 30 Quanta.[7]
  5. "Endshelf" quest is the base shelf of that tier, and "Level 100 Enchanting" quest follows it. The Draconic Endshelf boosts Eterna by 20, allowing a max of 100.[7]
  6. "Library of Alexandria" quest and "Enchanting Table of the Raven" quest both come after that. The second asks for the God-Fused Pearl along with the Raven enchanting table, which lets you set Eterna, Quanta and Arcana by hand without nearby bookshelves.[7]

Generating Resources

"Spawner Farms" quest asks for the Spawner Chain and a vanilla spawner. Its text covers moving a spawner with a Silk Touch pickaxe, changing it with a mob egg, and getting Spawner Chains by exploding a spawner. The chains are used to craft spawner upgrades. "Mob Grinding" quest also suggests combining Mob Grinding Utils with an Apotheosis spawner.[23]

Unverified 40 of the 99 quests in the Generating Resources chapter are not shown in the sources here, so any other Apotheosis mentions in that chapter are unconfirmed. Check the quest book for the rest.

Which Apotheosis config options matter?

4 parts

The only Apotheosis config file I can show you in detail is name_generation.cfg. It controls the words the mod uses to name generated gear and bosses, so it's cosmetic rather than a balance file, but it's where the pack has left its mark.[24]

Modded armor prefixes are empty

Armor groups for modded gear are set to an empty list in this pack, for example armors.mekanism_mekasuit_helmet, armors.mekanism_jetpack, armors.cataclysm_ignitium_helmet and armors.irons_spellbooks_pyromancer_helmet. The file flags all of these as changed by the pack, but the default it records for them is just a stray bracket, so I can't tell you what the mod's own default was. The option's own comment says these lists may be empty.[24]

Vanilla-style material prefixes

A handful of material groups still have prefix words. Each group also covers some modded items that share the material, so a few modded pieces borrow these names.[24]

The file marks these as changed by the pack too, but the names it records as the mod default are the same words, just written in a different format. So treat them as the usual vanilla-style names rather than a real rewrite.[24]

Item root names and boss names

The item root-name lists decide the base word in a generated name, such as items.swords, items.axes, items.bows and items.shields. Swords, for instance, can be called Claymore, Rapier, Glaive or Calibur. These lists may not be empty.[24]

Boss names are built from entity.Prefixes, entity.Names, [[config:config/apotheosis/name_generation.cfg#entity.Name Parts]] and entity.Suffixes. A suffix is always preceded by "The". The pack's lists match the mod's recorded defaults word for word, even though the file flags them as changed.[24]

Tip: If you want custom names for a modded armor set, look for its group in the armors section of name_generation.cfg. The pack leaves most of the modded ones empty, and the comment on each one confirms an empty list is allowed.[24]

Where the other settings live

Unverified The pack also ships enchantments.cfg and apothic_enchanting.cfg (enchanting), apotheosis.cfg (general settings), apothic_attributes.cfg (attributes), and two structure config files for placement and toggles, all in the config/apotheosis folder. The sources here do not show their contents, so I can't tell you which values the pack changed in them.

What changed in Apotheosis between versions?

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Apotheosis 8.8.0 (the Apotheosis-1.21.1-8.8.0.jar file). The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier, so you've had it from the start of the pack's releases.[2]

The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there are no pack-specific tweaks to Apotheosis that I can point you to here.[2]

Unverified The mod's own changelogs for 8.6.0, 8.6.1, 8.7.0 and 8.8.0 were not available with their entries, so what changed in each of those versions is unverified and left out rather than guessed.

A value of 0.015 means that 1 point of negative armor will increase incoming damage by 1.5%. config/apotheosis/apothic_attributes.cfg
0.0150.015
effects.Ancient Knowledge Multiplier changed by FTB Skies 2: Aero
The value (per-level) of the Experience Gained attribute modifier provided by Ancient Knowledge. Synced.
config/apotheosis/apothic_attributes.cfg

general.Hidden Attributes changed by FTB Skies 2: Aero
A list of attributes that will be hidden from the Attributes GUI. Client-authoritative. This is useful for attributes that are not meant to be visible to players, such as those used by Apothic Attributes itself. This config supports the following input formats: - ResourceLocation strings, such as minecraft:generic.max_health, used to block specific attributes. - Namespaced wildcards, such as apothic_attributes:*, used to block all attributes in a namespace. - Negation entries, such as !apothic_attributes:elytra_flight, which will un-block a specific attribute that would otherwise be blocked by a wildcard. Note: The list is processed in order. Place negation entries at the end of the list to ensure they take precedence.
config/apotheosis/apothic_attributes.cfg
["neoforge:nametag_distance","neoforge:creative_flight","apothic_attributes:elytra_flight","apothic_attributes:ghost_health"][neoforge:nametag_distance], [neoforge:creative_flight], [apothic_attributes:elytra_flight], [apothic_attributes:ghost_health]
apprenticecodex:alacrity.Max Level changed by FTB Skies 2: Aero
The max level of this enchantment - originally 5.
config/apotheosis/enchantments.cfg
