Mekanism Additions is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 10.7.19. Additions module for Mekanism, contains things that don't quite fit in the other modules. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Mekanism Additions?

3 parts

Mekanism Additions is an official addon for Mekanism. It collects the miscellaneous features that don't quite fit in the other Mekanism modules. Most of them used to live in the main Mekanism mod in 1.12 and earlier, and they now have their own module.[1]

This pack includes version 10.7.19 of the mod.[2]

What it adds

  • Baby mobs: Creepers, Endermen, Skeletons, Strays and Wither Skeletons.[1]
  • Obsidian TNT.[1]
  • Glow Panels.[1]
  • Balloons.[1]
  • Plastic variants of various block shapes.[1]
  • A voice server.[1]

Who it is for

If you already use Mekanism and want extra decorative blocks and a few fun extras, this is the module for you. The plastic blocks, Glow Panels and Balloons are mostly about building and decoration. Obsidian TNT and the baby mobs are novelty additions on top of that.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Mekanism Additions fits into this pack's progression. They also don't show any quests, an ATM Star path connection, or pack-specific recipe or config changes for the mod. Treat it as an optional extra alongside the main Mekanism progression, and check in-game recipes before relying on any item. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Mekanism Additions?

3 parts

Mekanism Additions is an official addon for Mekanism that collects the extras that don't fit in the other modules. It adds baby mobs (Creepers, Endermen, Skeletons, Strays and Wither Skeletons), Obsidian TNT, Glow Panels, Balloons, plastic variants of various block shapes, and a voice server. This guide starts with Balloons and Glow Panels, because both have crafting recipes in the pack.[1][3]

Make a Balloon

Balloons are crafted with a shapeless recipe, so the layout in the grid doesn't matter, and each dye color has its own balloon recipe. Crafting any color also earns you the Balloon advancement.[3][4]

Red is just an example. Every dye color has its own balloon recipe in the pack.

If you pick the wrong color, you don't need to start over. There is a recolor recipe for each color, and it is also shapeless.[3]

Make a Glow Panel

Glow Panels, like Black Glow Panel, are the decorative lighting option. Unlike balloons, the pack's recipe for them is a shaped crafting recipe, and it also needs an item from base Mekanism. Crafting any color unlocks the Glow Panel advancement.[3][4]

What else is in the mod

Besides balloons and panels, the mod adds reinforced plastic blocks in many colors, plus the baby mobs, Obsidian TNT and the voice server mentioned above. Baby mob spawning has its own server config options, including whether each baby mob spawns at all and multipliers for spawn weight and group size compared to the adult mob.[1][4]

How does Mekanism Additions work?

5 parts

Mekanism Additions is an official addon to Mekanism for features that don't quite fit in the other Mekanism modules. The sources here don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power use, fluid handling or automation for it, so this section sticks to what the sources do confirm.[1]

The listed features are baby mobs, Obsidian TNT, Glow Panels, Balloons, plastic variants of various block shapes, and a voice server. Here is how each of them works as far as the sources show.[1]

Balloons

Balloons come in many colors, for example Red Balloon and Blue Balloon. In this pack each color has its own crafting recipe, and each color also has a separate recolor recipe. Here is a sample of each kind.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any string
  • any black dye

Red BalloonMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

Crafting any color of balloon also unlocks an advancement.[4]

Obsidian TNT

Obsidian TNT has settings for its fuse time in ticks and its explosion radius. The mod's own descriptions compare these to vanilla TNT, which has a fuse of 80 ticks (4 seconds) and a radius of 4.[4]

Unverified The pack's actual fuse and radius values for Obsidian TNT are set in this mod's server config, and the sources here do not show them.

Voice server and Walkie Talkies

The voice server is there for Walkie Talkies. It can be switched on or off in the server settings, and you can set the TCP port it listens on. On the client side, if the voice server is enabled and push-to-talk is disabled, the voice key works as a toggle instead of having to be held while you talk.[4]

Unverified Whether the voice server is enabled in this pack, and which port it uses, is set in this mod's config files, and the sources here do not show it.

Baby mobs

The mod adds baby versions of Creepers, Endermen, Skeletons, Strays and Wither Skeletons, and the settings also cover Baby Bogged. Each baby mob has its own spawn toggle. Its weight, spawn cost and group size are set as multipliers compared to the adult mob. There is also a separate multiplier for the damage of arrows shot by baby mobs.[1][4]

Some advancements are tied to them: getting injured by all of the mod's baby mobs, and killing any baby mob from the mod.[4]

Unverified The spawn toggles and multipliers for baby mobs are set in this mod's server config, and the sources here do not show the values this pack uses.

Plastic blocks and Glow Panels

Reinforced Plastic Blocks come in many colors, including White, Black, Red, Lime and Aqua. Glow Panels have their own advancement, which is awarded for crafting any color of them. The sources don't go into more detail on how either of these behaves.[1][4]

How do you progress through Mekanism Additions?

2 parts

The recipe dump for this pack shows Mekanism Additions as a set of optional extras: balloons, Obsidian TNT, plastic blocks and glow panels. There are no formal tiers. What really sets the order is how much of Mekanism itself each recipe asks for, so this page follows that.[3]

Start here: balloons and Obsidian TNT

Balloons come first because every color is a shapeless crafting recipe that uses only common tag items (dyes, leathers and strings), with no Mekanism component. Red Balloon is the example below, and the other colors follow the same pattern.[3]

2× Red BalloonMod recipe

Crafting Shapeless

  • any leather
  • any string
  • any red dye

Recipe id: mekanismadditions:balloon/red

Every balloon color is a shapeless craft that uses its own dye tag.

You can also change the color of a balloon you already have. The recolor recipes take the balloon, a new dye and any balloon.[3]

Obsidian TNT needs no Mekanism component either. It is a shaped craft built from vanilla TNT and a normal obsidian.[3]

Next: plastic blocks and glow panels

Plastic blocks and glow panels are the pieces that need something from Mekanism itself. Black Plastic Block is the simplest case, a shaped craft that combines that Mekanism component with one dye.[3]

Recipe id: mekanismadditions:plastic/block/black

The other plastic block colors use the same pattern with their own dye.

Red Glow Panel and the other glow panels need that same Mekanism component and add glowstone dust, a dye and glass panes, so they are a step beyond plain plastic blocks.[3]

Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: mekanismadditions:glow_panel/red

Every glow panel color uses the same shaped pattern with its own dye.

Glow panels can be recolored as well. The recolor recipes take the existing panel, a new dye and any glow panel.[3]

Tip: Balloons and Obsidian TNT do not need any Mekanism component in their recipes. Grab them whenever you like, and save the plastic blocks and glow panels for once you can make the Mekanism component they require.[3]

How does Mekanism Additions work with other mods?

2 parts

In this pack, Mekanism Additions connects to other mods in a few ways. Its own recipes plug into Mekanism's pigment and painting systems, and Obsidian TNT is used as an ingredient in recipes from other mods.[3]

Obsidian TNT in pack-added recipes

The pack added every recipe in this group. In each of them, Obsidian TNT is a crafting ingredient, so keep some in stock.[3]

Start with the Infinitely Compressed Circuit Board. The pack gives you a Create sequenced assembly route that passes through Incomplete Infinitely Compressed Circuit Board, and a separate Modern Industrialization implosion compressor route. Both mix parts from several mods, including Plasma Circuit and Finished PCB, and both use Obsidian TNT.[3]

The Create sequenced assembly route, added by the pack.

Obsidian TNT also appears in the pack's Tungsten Ingot recipe, which is made in a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber. If you want tungsten, you need Obsidian TNT from this mod.[3]

Working with Mekanism

Mekanism Additions is an official Mekanism addon, and its recipes tie into Mekanism's own systems. Glow panels, for example, are crafted with Mekanism's HDPE Sheet. This is a normal mod recipe, not one the pack changed.[1][3]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
any glass panesHDPE Sheetany glass panes
HDPE Sheetany black dyeHDPE Sheet
any glowstone dustHDPE Sheetany glowstone dust

Recipe id: mekanismadditions:glow_panel/black

Black is an example, and the other colours use the same recipe pattern. This is a mod recipe, not a pack change.

Colours run through Mekanism pigments. Coloured plastic blocks and glow plastic blocks, such as Aqua Plastic Block and Aqua Glow Plastic Block, can be broken down by Mekanism's pigment extracting into that colour's pigment. These are the mod's default recipes.[3]

You can then spend that pigment in Mekanism painting recipes to recolour balloons and glow panels. A painting recipe takes the pigment plus a balloon or glow panel of the same type, and gives you that item in the new colour. That lets you recolour existing ones instead of crafting new ones.[3]

Aqua glow panel painting is an example, and balloons have matching painting recipes for every colour.

What changed in Mekanism Additions between versions?

6 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Mekanism Additions 10.7.19. The mod was already in the pack as of 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]

The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs for 10.7.14 through 10.7.19. They are commit lists, so I've kept to the changes that matter in play. The 10.7.15 list was cut off in my source, so that entry is only partial.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

10.7.19 (the version in this pack)

  • Removed an incorrect increase of the configured radiation range.[5]
  • Added a green rear port to the Isotopic Centrifuge.[5]
  • Translation updates, including Chinese Simplified.[5]

10.7.18

  • Fixed the color rendering of the transporter item box.[6]
  • Prevented an UnsupportedOperationException during chunk unload.[6]

10.7.17

  • Removed the use of Lazy so the mod copes with other mods drawing non-lines in RenderHighlightEvent.[7]
  • Added an incompatibility clause for a fission recipe hack mod.[7]

10.7.16

  • Fixed some multiblock machines needlessly rechecking their structure on redstone updates via onNeighborChange when Alternate Current is installed.[8]
  • Fixed a missed equals override and updated translations.[8]

10.7.15

  • Vents now insert into their tank instead of overwriting it. Vent fluid tanks are also exposed to LookingAt plugins, and the buffered amount is now actually saved.[9]
  • Superheated sodium is now marked as gaseous, and sodium coolant is rendered in the fission reactor.[9]
  • Fission audio levels were re-leveled to sit reasonably next to the other generators, and fluid multiblock renders got a minimum height.[9]
  • Added a scanner for missing tags that logs a lot and shows a nag message when you join.[9]
  • The HUD now shifts when sound subtitles are displayed, and the minimum NeoForge version was bumped to 21.1.171.[9]

10.7.14

  • Freerunners are supported in Curios slots when the user or pack adds them to the tag.[10]
  • The turbine base can now be non-square.[10]
  • Machines can do bonus operations when the upgrade multiplier results in less than 1 tick per operation before rounding, and a missed bonus calculation for factory tiles was fixed.[10]
Watch out: The 10.7.14 changelog warned that Mekanism was in alpha and not recommended for widespread use in modpacks. It said updating from one alpha to the next may make some Mekanism blocks disappear or void their contents, so make backups before updating.[10]
