What is Mekanism Additions?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Mekanism Additions is an official addon for Mekanism. It collects the miscellaneous features that don't quite fit in the other Mekanism modules. Most of them used to live in the main Mekanism mod in 1.12 and earlier, and they now have their own module.[1]

This pack includes version 10.7.19 of the mod.[2]

What it adds

  • Baby mobs: Creepers, Endermen, Skeletons, Strays and Wither Skeletons.[1]
  • Obsidian TNT.[1]
  • Glow Panels.[1]
  • Balloons.[1]
  • Plastic variants of various block shapes.[1]
  • A voice server.[1]

Who it is for

If you already use Mekanism and want extra decorative blocks and a few fun extras, this is the module for you. The plastic blocks, Glow Panels and Balloons are mostly about building and decoration. Obsidian TNT and the baby mobs are novelty additions on top of that.[1]

Where it fits in the progression

Unverified The sources I have don't show where Mekanism Additions fits into this pack's progression. They also don't show any quests, an ATM Star path connection, or pack-specific recipe or config changes for the mod. Treat it as an optional extra alongside the main Mekanism progression, and check in-game recipes before relying on any item. This site does hold FTB Skies 2: Aero's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Mekanism Additions?

5 parts

Mekanism Additions is an official Mekanism addon for the odds and ends that don't fit in the other modules. It adds baby mobs, Obsidian TNT, glow panels, balloons, plastic blocks in lots of shapes, and a voice server. Here is the order I'd try the craftable parts in, starting with the simplest.[1]

Balloons first

Start with a Black Balloon. It's a shapeless crafting recipe and one craft gives you 2 balloons. Every color has its own recipe, and black is just the example. Crafting any balloon also earns you the Balloon advancement.[3][4]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any leather
  • any string
  • any black dye

Recipe id: mekanismadditions:balloon/black

Black is the example, the other colors follow the same pattern.

You don't need to start over to change a balloon's color. A shapeless recolor recipe turns a balloon into another color, and there is also a painting recipe type that does the same job.[3]

The Walkie-Talkie

Next, make the Walkie-Talkie. The pack changed this recipe, so don't trust what you remember from other packs. Craft it from the recipe below.[3]

Glow panels

The Black Glow Panel gives you light-emitting decoration, and one craft makes 2 panels. Crafting any glow panel earns the Glow in the Dark advancement. You can then recolor panels, and that recolor recipe makes 4 panels at once.[3][4]

Plastic blocks

Plastic is the biggest part of this mod. Each color comes as a plastic block with slab, stairs, road, barrier, gate, glow and transparent versions. Slabs are the easiest place to start: one Black Plastic Block gives you 6 Black Plastic Slab.[3][4]

The Black Reinforced Plastic Block recipe was also changed by the pack, and one craft makes 4 blocks.[3]

How does Mekanism Additions work?

4 parts

Mekanism Additions is an official addon module for Mekanism that holds miscellaneous features which don't quite fit in the other modules. Its feature list is baby mobs (Creepers, Endermen, Skeletons, Strays and Wither Skeletons), Obsidian TNT, glow panels, balloons, plastic variants of various block shapes and a voice server. So this section covers how those items are made and changed in the pack.[1]

Plastic blocks and how they change

Plastic comes in many colours and shapes: blocks, slabs, stairs, barriers, gates, roads, transparent and glow variants. Reinforced and slick versions exist too. Take Black Plastic Block as an example. Its slab form, Black Plastic Slab, comes from a normal crafting recipe that gives 6 slabs.[3][4]

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped

Slick plastic, such as Black Slick Plastic Block, is not crafted. It comes from a Mekanism enriching recipe that turns a plain plastic block into the slick version.[3]

Enriching (mekanism)

Recipe id: mekanismadditions:plastic/slick/enriching/black

Reinforced plastic, such as Black Reinforced Plastic Block, uses a recipe the pack has changed. Each craft gives 4 reinforced blocks.[3]

This recipe was changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default.

Recolouring balloons and glow panels

Balloons such as Black Balloon can be recoloured in two ways. One is a shapeless crafting recipe with a dye. The other is a Mekanism painting recipe, which is a different recipe type from normal crafting. The pack has 288 painting recipes for this mod's items.[3]

Painting (mekanism)

Glow panels work in a similar way. Crafting a fresh panel such as Black Glow Panel gives 2 panels per craft. Recolouring an existing panel with a dye gives 4 panels of the new colour.[3]

Baby mobs

The mod adds baby versions of Creepers, Endermen, Skeletons, Strays and Wither Skeletons. It also has two advancements about them: one for getting injured by all of the baby mobs, and one for killing any of them.[1][4]

How do you progress through Mekanism Additions?

3 parts

Mekanism Additions is mostly a set of building blocks and a few extras on top of Mekanism, so there is no machine tier ladder to climb here. The recipes in the pack do show a clear upgrade path for the plastic blocks, plus two gear items worth knowing about.[3]

The plastic ladder

Every colour of plastic follows the same steps. Aqua is the example below, but black, blue, brown, cyan and dark red are set up the same way.[3]

  • Start with a plain block such as Aqua Plastic Block. One block crafts into 6 slabs, for example Aqua Plastic Slab.[3]
  • For a slick version, put the plain block through an enriching recipe. Aqua plastic becomes Aqua Slick Plastic Block.[3]
  • For the reinforced version, craft the plain block into 4 blocks at once, such as Aqua Reinforced Plastic Block. The pack changed this recipe for every colour listed above, so use the one shown below rather than what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]

Decoration extras

Balloons and glow panels need no upgrades. A balloon craft gives you 2 balloons, for example Black Balloon. A glow panel craft gives you 2 panels, for example Black Glow Panel.[3]

To change the colour later, use a recolor recipe. A glow panel recolor gives 4 panels in the new colour. Balloons can also be recoloured with Mekanism's painting recipe type.[3]

How does Mekanism Additions work with other mods?

3 parts

Mekanism Additions is an official addon for Mekanism, so most of its connections in this pack run straight into Mekanism. A few recipes that the pack changed or added also tie it to FTB's own materials and to PneumaticCraft's pressure chamber.[1][3]

Mekanism

Plastic blocks and glow panels both start from Mekanism's HDPE Sheet. These two recipes are unchanged mod recipes in this pack. Each colour has its own version of the same recipe, and the dump shows the black ones here.[3]

You can also run the colours backwards. A Mekanism pigment extracting recipe turns a plastic block into pigment: the Aqua Plastic Block gives 48 aqua pigment, for example. The dump counts 216 of these recipes, covering 18 different results.[3]

Balloons use Mekanism's painting recipe type to change colour. The Aqua Balloon recipe below shows how it works. The dump counts 288 painting recipes that make Mekanism Additions items, and every one of them is a Mekanism recipe type.[3]

FTB materials: what the pack changed

The reinforced plastic recipes are changed by the pack. They use Osmium Dust and give 4 reinforced blocks per craft. The dump shows this for every colour, and aqua is the example here.[3]

The Walkie-Talkie recipe is also changed by the pack. It is built from Osmium Ingot and Steel Ingot rather than anything from the mod's own defaults.[3]

PneumaticCraft pressure chamber

The pack adds two pressure chamber recipes that use Obsidian TNT as an ingredient. The first makes 2 Tungsten Ingot from 2 Tungsten Dust plus one Obsidian TNT and 16 entro dust.[3]

Pressure Chamber (pneumaticcraft)

Recipe id: ftb:pncr/pressure_chamber/tungsten_ingot

The second makes Ultradense Polonium Quantized Bamboo and is much heavier on the TNT. It needs 64 Obsidian TNT alongside 32 Polonium Quantized Bamboo Plating, so plan your TNT supply before you start.[3]

What changed in Mekanism Additions between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Mekanism Additions 10.7.19, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of Aero.[5]

What's in 10.7.19

This is the changelog for the version you're running. It lists these changes:[6]

  • A fix that removes an incorrect increase of the configured radiation range.[6]
  • A green rear port added to the Isotopic Centrifuge.[6]
  • Translation updates from Crowdin, including Chinese Simplified.[6]
  • A version bump to 10.7.19.[6]

The changelog doesn't say how any of these changes behave in play, so treat the descriptions above as the full extent of what's confirmed.[6]

I don't have pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you how it changed between Aero releases.[5]
