What is Just Dyna Things?

2 parts

Just Dyna Things is an addon for Just Dire Things that adds a bunch of new stuff on top of it. This pack ships version 1.9.6, so everything below is based on that version's in-game guide and the pack's quest book.[1][2]

What it adds

Where it fits in progression

The pack gives this mod's items their own quests in the just_dire_things chapter, so you unlock them alongside Just Dire Things. The basics, like the a quest in "?" Thermo Generator quest and the a quest in "?" Blackhole quest, all sit directly after the same chapter starting quest.[10]

The anvils form a chain: Ferricore (a quest in "?"), then Blazegold (a quest in "?"), then Celestigem (a quest in "?"), then Eclipse Alloy (a quest in "?").[10]

The solar panels climb in output the same way. The in-game guide lists the Forge Energy rate as 240 for the Ferricore Solar Panel, 960 for the Blazegold Solar Panel, 3,840 for the Celestigem Solar Panel and 11,520 for the Eclipse Alloy Solar Panel. Each panel has its own placement conditions, so check its page before you build.[20][21][22][23]

How do you get started with Just Dyna Things?

5 parts

Just Dyna Things is an addon for Just Dire Things that adds new anvils, solar panels and a few handy utility blocks. A sensible start is to get some Forge Energy (FE) going, then build a way to repair your gear without spending experience.[2][3][9]

Step one: make a Ferricore Solar Panel

The Ferricore Solar Panel is the entry-level generator. It makes 240 FE, and it only works in the Overworld, with a clear view of the sky, during the day. Its modifiers list says nothing.[23]

The pack changed this recipe compared with the mod's own version, so use the one below. The quest a quest in "?" asks you to craft it.[10][24]

Tip: The Ferricore panel needs the sky and daylight, so put it somewhere open. The later panels have different conditions, covered further down.[23]

Step two: make a Ferricore Anvil

Next comes the Ferricore Anvil. The anvils in this mod repair items without Experience, and the Ferricore one repairs tools using catalysts. Its default catalysts have durability rates of 64 and 128.[3][7]

The quest for this anvil is a quest in "?". The Blazegold Anvil quest comes right after it.[10]

Step three: upgrade the anvil

Each better anvil is crafted from the previous one, and each repairs in its own way. The quest book follows the same order:[10][24]

  1. Blazegold Anvil repairs items using a high temperature fluid. The default fluids give efficiencies from 1.0x up to 7.5x. Quest: a quest in "?".[4][10]
  2. Celestigem Anvil repairs items using Forge Energy, which is where your solar panel comes in. Quest: a quest in "?".[5][10]
  3. Eclipse Alloy Anvil also uses Forge Energy, and when a coolant is added it repairs based on the coolant efficiency. The default coolant is 10.0x. Quest: a quest in "?".[6][10]

Step four: scale up your power

When 240 FE stops being enough, move up the panel line. The Blazegold Solar Panel makes 960 FE but only works in the Nether. The Celestigem Solar Panel makes 3,840 FE and needs to see the sky. The Eclipse Alloy Solar Panel makes 11,520 FE with no conditions at all. The Celestigem and Eclipse Alloy panels also produce more when other panels are nearby.[20][21][22][23]

The Thermo Generator is another option. It makes FE from a heat source block plus a fluid coolant, following the formula 125 x CoolantEfficiency x HeatEfficiency.[8][24]

What to look at after that

  • Picker Wand picks up a block and places it where you want. The pack changed its recipe.[18][24]
  • Swapper Wand swaps one block for another without removing it from the world.[19]
  • Blackhole works as a universal trash can. It can also be turned off so it stores a very large amount of energy or fluid.[14][24]
  • justdynathings:revitalizer revives any goo on top of it using Forge Energy. The pack added its own recipe for it.[17][24]

How does Just Dyna Things work?

6 parts

Just Dyna Things is an addon for JustDireThings, and its machines fall into a few groups: power generators, goo helpers, farming blocks, anvils and a handful of utility blocks. Here is how each group works in this pack, including the places where the pack changed the mod's numbers.[2][25]

Solar panels

The solar panels generate Forge Energy (FE) depending on their surroundings. There are four tiers, and each has its own conditions. The in-game guide pages show the mod's default FE rates, but the pack lowered every rate and every energy buffer.[9][25]

  • Ferricore Solar Panel: works only in the Overworld, with a view of the sky, during the day. The pack sets it to 64 FE/t with a 1,000 FE buffer (mod defaults: 240 and 100,000).[23][25]
  • Blazegold Solar Panel: works in the Nether. The pack sets it to 512 FE/t with a 5,000 FE buffer (mod defaults: 960 and 100,000).[20][25]
  • Celestigem Solar Panel: needs a view of the sky. Panels placed near each other produce more. The pack sets it to 1,024 FE/t with a 10,000 FE buffer (mod defaults: 3,840 and 1,000,000).[21][25]
  • Eclipse Alloy Solar Panel: no conditions. Nearby panels boost it, and a high or low Y-level raises its multiplier while a middle Y-level lowers it. The pack sets it to 2,048 FE/t with a 100,000 FE buffer (mod defaults: 11,520 and 1,000,000).[22][25]
Watch out: The numbers on the guide pages are the mod defaults. This pack's values are much lower, so check options such as 5-solar_panel.solar_celestigem_ferate and 5-solar_panel.solar_celestigem_maxfe when you plan your power.[21][25]

Thermo Generator

The Thermo Generator makes FE from a heat source block plus a fluid coolant. The guide gives the formulas as FE gen = 125 x CoolantEfficiency x HeatEfficiency and MB cost = 125 / CoolantEfficiency. A better coolant therefore produces more power and uses less fluid.[8]

The default coolants have modifiers of 1.0x, 2.5x and 10.0x. Default heat source efficiencies start at 0.5x for the weakest sources (fire among them) and reach 10.5x, with lava at 0.99x.[8]

The generator's energy capacity is 1,000,000 FE (2-blocks.thermogen_maxfe), and its coolant capacity is 100,000 MB (2-blocks.thermogen_maxmb). Both match the mod defaults.[25]

Goo and the Revitalizer

The mod adds new goo tiers that follow the same logic as the JustDireThings goos. The Energized Goo needs FE to stay alive, while the Creative Goo cannot die at all and can be toggled with any wrench.[26][27][28]

The Creative Goo is at tier MAX, and the pack config sets that tier to 2,147,483,647 (4-goo.goo_creative_tier).[25][27]

The charged goos sit at tiers 1 (Primogel), 2 (Blazebloom), 3 (VoidShimmer) and 4 (ShadowPulse). The Energized Goo is tier 5 in the pack config (4-goo.goo_energized_tier), although its guide page says 6. Trust the config for this pack.[25][28][29][30][31][32]

The counter reducer of the Energized Goo is 15 (4-goo.goo_energized_counter_reducer), and the Primogel charged goo uses the same value (4-goo.goo_charged_primogel_counter_reducer).[25]

FE-powered goos cost 100 FE/t (4-goo.goo_fegoo_ferate) and hold up to 10,000 FE (4-goo.goo_fegoo_maxfe). The tier capacity multiplier is switched on for both options.[25]

To revive a goo, place the justdynathings:revitalizer under it and power it with FE. The guide shows a powered Revitalizer reviving a Blazebloom Goo above it.[17]

In this pack the Revitalizer costs 1,000 FE/t (2-blocks.revitalizer_FErate) and holds 10,000 FE (2-blocks.revitalizer_maxFE). Each time it revives a goo there is only a 50 percent chance that the FE cost is applied (2-blocks.revitalizer_cost_chance).[25]

Echoing Buddings

Echoing buddings are a new way to farm budding resources. They only need Time Fluid and FE to grow clusters. The variants are Echoing Budding Amethyst, Echoing Budding Time, Echoing Budding Certus, Echoing Budding Entro and a Phasorite version. The Certus and Entro ones are the flawless versions.[11][12][13][33][34][35]

The guide lists Applied Energistics 2, Extended AE and Phasorite Networks as the mods behind the extra variants.[11]

All of them share one set of config values, and the pack keeps the mod defaults. The FE cost is 100 FE/t (3-echoing_budding.budding_general_ferate) and the fluid cost is 100 MB/t (3-echoing_budding.budding_general_mbrate).[25]

The energy buffer holds 10,000 FE (3-echoing_budding.budding_general_maxfe) and the fluid buffer holds 10,000 MB (3-echoing_budding.budding_general_maxmb).[25]

Both costs are only applied by chance when a cluster grows (3-echoing_budding.budding_general_fechance and 3-echoing_budding.budding_general_mbchance). The growth sound can be switched off with 3-echoing_budding.budding_general_sound.[25]

The Time, Certus and Entro variants have their own mod recipes too.

Anvils that repair without XP

The four anvils repair items without using experience, and each tier repairs in a different way.[3]

  • Ferricore Anvil: repairs tools using catalysts. The default catalysts have durability rates of 64 and 128.[7]
  • Blazegold Anvil: repairs using a high temperature fluid. The default fluids have efficiencies of 1.0x, 2.5x, 5.5x and 7.5x.[4]
  • Celestigem Anvil: repairs using FE.[5]
  • Eclipse Alloy Anvil: repairs using FE, and adding a coolant makes it repair based on coolant-efficiency / 100 x total-damage. The default coolant has an efficiency of 10.0x.[6]

Each of the upper three anvils is crafted from the anvil of the tier below it.[24]

How do you progress through Just Dyna Things?

4 parts

Just Dyna Things is an addon for Just Dire Things, and in this pack its progression is built around two four-step ladders: the anvils and the solar panels. Each ladder follows the Just Dire Things metal tiers: Ferricore, Blazegold, Celestigem, then Eclipse Alloy. The quests follow the same order for the anvils.[2][10][24]

The anvil ladder

The anvils repair gear without spending experience. The quests chain them in a straight line: a quest in "?" for the Ferricore Anvil comes first, then a quest in "?" for the Blazegold Anvil, then a quest in "?" for the Celestigem Anvil, and finally a quest in "?" for the Eclipse Alloy Anvil.[3][10]

Every anvil above the first is crafted from the previous tier's anvil. Each also has a smithing-table route that uses the matching upgrade template. The Ferricore Anvil is the entry point and takes any anvil as its base.[24]

Each tier repairs in a different way. The Ferricore Anvil repairs tools using catalysts, with default durability rates of 64 and 128. The Blazegold Anvil uses a high temperature fluid, with default efficiencies from 1.0x up to 7.5x. The Celestigem Anvil repairs using Forge Energy. The Eclipse Alloy Anvil also uses Forge Energy, and adding a coolant boosts it, with a default coolant efficiency of 10.0x.[4][5][6][7]

The solar panel ladder

Solar panels follow the same four metals, but each tier works under different conditions. The quests are a quest in "?" (Ferricore), a quest in "?" (Blazegold), a quest in "?" (Celestigem) and a quest in "?" (Eclipse Alloy). Unlike the anvils, each panel quest comes after a different quest, not after the previous panel's quest.[9][10]

The pack changed the entry-level panel recipe, so it is not the mod's default. The higher panels are crafted directly, and they can also be made by smithing-upgrading the previous panel.[24]

How does Just Dyna Things work with other mods?

5 parts

Just Dyna Things is an addon for Just Dire Things, and the recipes in this pack show it. Nearly everything you craft with this mod is built from Just Dire Things ingots, blocks, gems, coals and smithing templates. If you're already working through Just Dire Things, you're most of the way there.[2][24]

The anvil ladder

The four anvils form a chain: Ferricore Anvil, Blazegold Anvil, Celestigem Anvil and Eclipse Alloy Anvil. The first tier starts from a regular anvil, and each later tier upgrades the previous anvil with Just Dire Things materials. Every tier can be made by normal crafting or at a smithing table with the matching Just Dire Things template. The quest book follows the same order: a quest in "?" comes after a quest in "?", then a quest in "?", then a quest in "?".[10][24]

Echoing Buddings and the AE mods

The Echoing Buddings grow clusters using Time Fluid and energy. Besides vanilla Minecraft and Just Dire Things, the mod lists support for Applied Energistics 2, Extended AE and Phasorite Networks. The recipes for Echoing Budding Certus and Echoing Budding Entro each take a budding block from the matching AE mod, picked through a compatibility tag. They also need a Just Dire Things Polymorphic Catalyst and an Echo Shard. Echoing Budding Amethyst and Echoing Budding Time use the same catalyst and Echo Shard, with amethyst blocks or a time budding block instead.[11][24]

Quests

The quest chapter for these items is named just_dire_things. It includes quests for the Swapper Wand (a quest in "?"), Thermo Generator (a quest in "?"), Blackhole (a quest in "?"), Phase Box (a quest in "?") and Ferricore Clock (a quest in "?"). Each quest asks you to obtain one of those Just Dyna Things items. The Echoing Budding quest (a quest in "?") accepts any one of the four buddings that have recipes in the pack.[10]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Just Dyna Things?

3 parts

Just Dyna Things has its own quest chapter in the pack, called "just_dire_things". Every quest in it is an item-collection quest: you just need to get the item in your inventory. None of the quests have a title in the pack files, so I'm referring to them by their quest refs.[10]

Starter quests

Most of the chapter hangs off one shared parent quest, and the quests below all unlock directly after it. You can tackle them in any order you like.[10]

The anvil chain

The anvils form a straight line, each one unlocking after the one before it. The first anvil also needs one other prerequisite quest besides the shared parent, and the sources don't say what that quest is.[10]

  1. a quest in "?": the Ferricore Anvil.[10]
  2. a quest in "?": the Blazegold Anvil.[10]
  3. a quest in "?": the Celestigem Anvil.[10]
  4. a quest in "?": the Eclipse Alloy Anvil.[10]

Solar panels and the Revitalizer

The four solar panel quests each unlock after a different prerequisite quest, and none of those prerequisites is one of the quests listed above. The sources don't say what they are, so I can't tell you what unlocks each panel.[10]

Unverified The sources don't show whether the solar panel quests are meant to be done in tier order, or where the prerequisite quests outside this chapter's listed entries sit in the pack.

Which Just Dyna Things config options matter?

3 parts

Almost everything in this mod's common config is left at the mod's own default. The big exception is the solar panels, which the pack nerfed hard. Everything lives in the common config file, so that's the one to open.[25]

Solar panels: what the pack changed

Both the FE per tick and the FE capacity of all four solar panel tiers are lower in this pack than in the mod. Here's what the pack sets, with the mod default in brackets.[25]

Tip: If you've seen the mod's default solar numbers in other videos or guides, forget them here. Use the pack values above instead.[25]

Solar panel conditions

Each tier has its own toggles for daytime only, needing to see the sky, the Solar-Spam multiplier and the Y-level multiplier. The pack sets them differently per tier, so check the panel you're using.[25]

The config describes the Solar-Spam multiplier as reducing FE generation based on cheap prices, and the Y-level multiplier as reducing generation based on Y. It doesn't say by how much, so I can't give you exact figures.[25]

Left at the mod default

The Revitalizer uses the mod's values: 2-blocks.revitalizer_FErate is 1,000 FE/t, 2-blocks.revitalizer_maxFE is 10,000 FE, and 2-blocks.revitalizer_cost_chance is a 50 percent chance to apply the FE cost when it revitalizes a goo.[25]

The goo tiers also match the mod defaults:[25]

The counter reducer is unchanged too: 4-goo.goo_energized_counter_reducer is 15, same as the mod default.[25]

The Blackhole is also at the mod defaults, with these four options:[25]

2-blocks.blackhole_keep is true, so the Blackhole keeps its stored contents when redstone disables it.[25]

Two quality-of-life settings are off. 2-blocks.phasebox_requireWrench and 2-blocks.ferricoreclock_requireWrench are both false, so you don't need a wrench to change the Phase Box or Ferricore Clock state.[25]

If the anvil repair sounds bother you, 6-anvil.anvils_sound switches off the repair sound for all anvils at once. It's true in this pack, and each anvil also has its own sound toggle. The Eclipse Alloy anvil's 6-anvil.anvil_eclipsealloy_damage_limit is 1,000, same as the mod default.[25]
