What is Neo Vitae?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
Neo Vitae is a blood magic mod: you spill your own blood for power, and everything else grows from that. The pack includes version 1.1.20, and nothing I can see shows the pack changing the mod's recipes or values, so what follows describes the mod as it ships.[1][2]
What you'll be doing
The centerpiece is the Ara Vitae, a multiblock altar that consumes Essentia Vitae to transmute items. Drop in a Blood Orb and the altar starts sharing your Anima, a personal pool of essentia that follows you between worlds and dimensions. The altar has six tiers, and rune rings bend how it behaves.[1]
From there the mod branches out. Sigils are one-handed tools that each do a specific job for a specific essentia cost. The Sigil of Holding carries up to nine other sigils at once. The Tabula Vitae brews alchemy flasks and anointments, which are tool and weapon coatings. The Hellfire Forge makes Sentient gear that grows stronger on the souls of mobs you kill.[1]
There is more beyond that. Rituals run off a Master Ritual Stone, and the mod lists 30+ of them. Spiritus is a second resource layer split into five aspects. A Dungeon dimension, reached through a ritual, is an endless procedurally generated network of rooms inhabited by a roster of custom demons. Holding any tier of Blood Orb also weaves a Sanguine Ward, a personal shield that spends your essentia to absorb damage.[1]
Who it's for
This is for you if you like a long magic progression that starts small and ends with demon-forged gear and a dungeon of your own. It also suits you if you enjoy building multiblocks and automating with routing nodes. You don't have to learn it from a wiki alone: the mod ships its own in-game guidebook, Scriptura Vitae, which is meant to teach the systems rather than just list them.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests in this pack involving Neo Vitae, or a place for it on the ATM Star path. This guide doesn't place the mod in a quest progression, so treat it as an optional magic branch you explore on your own.
How do you get started with Neo Vitae?
5 parts
Neo Vitae is all about blood as currency. You start with a diamond and a wound, and everything else grows from the Ara Vitae, a multiblock altar that consumes Essentia Vitae (EV) to transmute items. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]
Build the Ara Vitae
Your first stop is the Ara Vitae. It is the heart of the mod, and its six tiers of construction shape what the altar can do. Crafting it needs nothing special: it is a shaped recipe in a normal crafting grid.[1][3]

Get your Orbs of Vitae
Drop a Blood Orb into the altar and it starts sharing your Anima, a personal pool of essentia that follows you between worlds and dimensions. The mod's advancements start you off with crafting your first Orb of Vitae, then upgrading to a Tier 1 orb, which is the Discipulus Orb of Vitae. That upgrade is an Ara Vitae type recipe.[1][3][4]

Orbs keep going up in tiers. The Dominus Orb of Vitae is the Tier 4 upgrade, so it is a goal for later.[3][4]
Craft the Arcane Scribe Tool
The Arcane Scribe Tool is what you use to inscribe and activate Alchemy Arrays. Make it before you chase your first sigil.[4]

This is an alchemy table recipe.
Make your first sigil
A sigil is a one-handed tool that does one specific job at a specific essentia cost. In this pack the sigil recipes below are of the array type. Any of them counts as your first sigil.[1][3][4]
- Sigil of the Blood Lamp: lets you toss a configurable coloured light source onto any surface.[1][3]
- Air Sigil: part of the standard utility kit of sigils.[1][3]
- Divination Sigil: another sigil made from the same type of recipe.[3]
The Blood Lamp sigil is an array recipe.
Look ahead
- The Athanor has its own crafting recipe, and the pack adds Athanor recipes that produce Boron Dust, Celestine Dust, Chimerite Dust and Dark Gem Dust.[3]
- The Hellfire Forge crafts Sentient weapons and armor. Recipes such as Sentient Pickaxe and Sentient Axe use forge recipe types.[1][3]

How does Neo Vitae work?
8 parts
Neo Vitae runs on Essentia Vitae (EV). Drop a Blood Orb into the altar and it starts sharing your Anima, a personal pool of essentia that follows you between worlds, dimensions and containers. Almost every machine below either spends EV or turns it into something useful.[1]
The Ara Vitae altar
The Ara Vitae is a multiblock altar that consumes EV to transmute items. It has six construction tiers. The higher tiers add rings of runes that change how the altar behaves: Speed, Acceleration, Charging, Capacity, Sacrifice, Dislocation, Orb, and their Reinforced counterparts.[1]

The rune strengths come from a data file inside the mod's jar. Each rune has a basic entry and a matching rune_2 entry with larger numbers. The sources here do not describe what each stat does in play, so treat these as the raw values:[5]
- Acceleration: Acceleration Rune has acceleration_mod 1, and the rune_2 version has 2.[5]
- Capacity: capacity_mod is 0.2 (rune_2: 0.4). The augmented capacity runes use augmented_capacity_power 1.075 (rune_2: 1.155625).[5]
- Charging: charge_amount_mod is 10 (rune_2: 20).[5]
- Speed: consumption_mod is 0.2 (rune_2: 0.4).[5]
- Sacrifice and self sacrifice: sacrifice_mod and self_sacrifice_mod are both 0.1 (rune_2: 0.2).[5]
- Orb: orb_capacity_mod is 0.2 (rune_2: 0.4).[5]
- Dislocation: dislocation_power is 1.2 (rune_2: 1.44).[5]
Six tiers of Orbs of Vitae carry your network's capacity upward. The only orb with stats in the data map shown here is the Animus transcendent orb: tier 5, animaCapacity 30,000,000, fillRate 75 and fluidCapacity 16,000.[1][6]
Feeding the network with sacrifice
Killing mobs near the altar pays out EV based on a per-mob value in the data map. A zombie is worth 50 EV per point of damage, a villager 100, and the Ender Dragon 1,000 with a cap of 5,000 per hit. The Warden and the Wither are both 500 with a cap of 2,500 per hit.[7]
The Athanor and ore processing
The Athanor is the machine behind Neo Vitae's refining. The sources list 157 recipes of the athanor type, covering things like cutting fluids and reversion recipes. For example, a reversion recipe turns something into netherite scrap, Hellforged Parts and an Acceleration Rune.[3]

Deus tools draw EV from your bound network each time they finish an Athanor or Tabula Vitae operation. In this pack that cost is 50, the same as the mod default (athanor.deus_tool_ev_per_use).[8]
The pack adds its own Athanor recipes that make Boron Dust and Celestine Dust from gravel. It also adds a smelting recipe that turns hellforged dust into a Hellforged Ingot.[3]
Athanor (neovitae)
Recipe id: neovitae:athanor/cutting_fluids/dusts_from_gravel_boron
Added by the pack: boron dust from gravel.
Added by the pack: hellforged dust smelts into a Hellforged Ingot.
Which materials can go through the gravel and dust stages is set in . Iron, gold and copper have fragment and gravel stages. Netherite scrap, xychorium and boron also have a dust stage. Hellforged only has a dust stage, and it smelts to a Hellforged Ingot. Every entry in the file lists dust_yield_from_ore as 3.[9]
Automation with routing nodes
Routing nodes come in four kinds: input, output, master and conduit. Their stats are in a data file, and only the master node has transfer numbers. Its base values are 10,000 energy, 1,000 fluid and 16 items, with a base tick rate of 20. Each upgrade adds the same amount again (10,000 energy, 1,000 fluid, 16 items). The master node takes up to 19 speed upgrades and 64 stack upgrades. All four kinds have a priority bonus of 0.[10]
Fluids and tanks
The Blood Tank is upgraded through its own tiered recipe, shown below.[3]
Blood Tank upgrade recipe.
The liquified experience array converts stored experience at liquified_experience.mb_per_point millibuckets per point, which is 20 here. The pack sets liquified_experience.preferred_fluid to the Just Dire Things XP fluid, so the array reads and writes that fluid (Just Dire Things). If that option were left empty, Neo Vitae's own fluid would be used.[8]
Spiritus and crystals
Spiritus is the world's latent energy, split into five aspects: Raw, Ruina, Nihilum, Vindicta and Invictus. Each chunk holds a base maximum of 100 of each aspect in this pack (the mod default), set by the spiritus.max_* options such as spiritus.max_raw.[1][8]
Spiritus Crystals placed in the world draw the local field into harvestable clusters. These are the pack's values, and all match the mod defaults:[1][8]
- spiritus_crystal.spiritus_to_form: 99 spiritus to form a new crystal.[8]
- spiritus_crystal.formation_time: 1,000 ticks of formation time in the Crystallizer.[8]
- spiritus_crystal.max_count: at most 7 crystal segments per cluster.[8]
- Consumption rate is 45 when the crystal matches the chunk's dominant aspect and 90 when it differs. A non-matching aspect also slows growth to 0.6 of normal speed.[8]
- spiritus_crystal.growth_threshold (200) is not a minimum. A cluster grows in any chunk holding more than 0.5 spiritus of its aspect. The threshold is a reference saturation that sets the growth curve, and raising it slows all crystal growth.[8]
Spiritus Gems come in the tiers Petty, Lesser, Common, Greater and Grand. A gem can capture a spawner or trial spawner with sneak + right-click, spending 200 spiritus (spiritus.spawner_capture_cost).[8][11]
Sigils and the Tabula Vitae
Sigils are one-handed tools that do one job for a set EV cost. They are made with a Blood Orb in the Tabula Vitae, or through alchemy array recipes. Costs in the data map include Air Sigil at 50, Sigil of the Blood Lamp at 10, Water at 100, Lava at 1,000, Teleposition at 1,000 and Suppression at 400 (range 5). Divination, Holding and Seer cost 0.[1][3][12]
The Air Sigil is made through an alchemy array recipe.
The Tabula Vitae is a six-input bench that brews Alchemy Flasks and Anointments (tool and weapon coatings). The Hellfire Forge crafts Sentient weapons and armor.[1]
Hellfire Forge Transform (neovitae)
Recipe id: neovitae:hellfire_forge/sentient_axe

Hellforged metal also has pack-added casting recipes. A casting table makes an ingot from 90 molten hellforged, and a casting basin makes a Hellforged Block from 810 (Hephaestus Forge).[3]
Ongoing EV costs and tuning
- Sanguine Ward: needs at least 200 EV to activate (blood_attributes.sanguine_ward_min_ev) and drains 50 EV per second while active (blood_attributes.sanguine_ward_drain_per_second).[8]
- Blood Shield costs 100 EV per point of damage prevented, and Blood Mending costs 100 EV per point of durability restored.[8]
- Blood Siphon multiplies EV by 10 when draining a non-player target and by 100 for a player target.[8]
- Demon Lantern: drains 20 EV per second from the bound player's network while running (demon_lantern.upkeep_per_second).[8]
- Blood and Demon Lanterns can suppress non-monster spawns, and that is turned on in this pack (lanterns.spawn_suppression).[8]
- Sigil of Necromancy: each player can have at most 10 summons alive at once.[8]
The Torment Nexus ritual binds nearby spawners and trial spawners and simulates kills for EV and loot. In this pack it charges 75 EV per simulated kill, capped at 8,000 EV per operation, and once that cap is reached the remaining kills run free. It scans a radius of 5 blocks horizontally and vertically around the Master Ritual Stone, which makes an 11x11 area. It rolls loot tables at most 5 times per spawner per operation and scales the drops up to match the kill count. All of these match the mod defaults.[1][8]
Unverified Per-ritual costs, ranges and effects live in the ritual data files (ritual_stats.json and imperfect_ritual_stats.json). The sources here do not show their contents, so check the in-game guide or those files for exact ritual numbers.
How do you progress through Neo Vitae?
4 parts
The sources I have for this pack don't give a step-by-step tier order for Neo Vitae. What they do show is which station crafts what, and that is a solid way to plan your progression. The mod's in-game guide also splits its Getting Started entries into tiers, with ids running from tier 1 up to tier 6. The sources here only show those entry ids, not their text, so read the entries in game for the details of each tier.[13][14]
Stage 1: the Ara Vitae and the Athanor
The Ara Vitae is a normal crafting table recipe, so it is where you start. After that, the Ara Vitae has its own recipe type, and the list below shows what is on it in this pack.[3]
- Discipulus Orb of Vitae and Dominus Orb of Vitae[3]
- Awakened Activation Crystal[3]
- Blood Lantern[3]
- Alchemy Flask[3]
- Inscription Tool: Air[3]

Stage 2: alchemy table, arrays and flasks
The alchemy table has 165 recipes. Examples are the Basic Cutting Fluid, the Advanced Cutting Fluid, the Average Power Catalyst, the Average Lengthening Catalyst and the Arcane Scribe Tool.[3]
Alchemy arrays are their own recipe type, with 21 recipes. The list below shows some of the sigils that use it.[3]
- Air Sigil[3]
- Divination Sigil[3]
- Sigil of the Blood Lamp[3]
- Sigil of Bound Treasures[3]
- Sigil of the Fast Miner[3]
- Sigil of the Frost Walker[3]
The Air Sigil is made through the array recipe type.
Flasks have their own upgrade path through flask transform recipes. The family is the Alchemy Flask, the Lingering Alchemy Flask and the Throwable Alchemy Flask. There is also an Athanor potion recipe for the Tipped Throwing Dagger that starts from the lingering flask.[3]
Stage 3: hellforged materials and the hellfire forge
The Hellforged Ingot has several routes in this pack. The mod's own smelting and blasting recipes cover dust and raw material, and the block can be broken back into 9 ingots. The pack adds two more routes: a smelting recipe and a blasting recipe for hellforged dust. It also adds Hephaestus Forge casting, where 90 units of Molten Hellforged make an ingot in a casting table and 810 make a Hellforged Block in a casting basin.[3]

The hellfire forge has 105 recipes. The list below shows some of what is on it.[3]
- Dungeon Alternator[3]
- Augmented Shaped Charge, with extra recipe variants named after fortune, silk touch and smelting[3]
- The sentient tools, which use transform recipes: Sentient Axe, Sentient Pickaxe, Sentient Scythe, Sentient Shovel and Sentient Spear[3]
Hellfire Forge Transform (neovitae)

The five rune reversion recipes in the Athanor list netherite scrap and Hellforged Parts together with a rune: Acceleration Rune, Capacity Rune, Augmented Capacity Rune, Charging Rune and Displacement Rune.[3]
Pack changes to know about
- The pack adds six Athanor recipes under the cutting fluids path that turn gravel into dusts: Boron Dust, Celestine Dust, Chimerite Dust, Dark Gem Dust, Dimensional Shard Dust and Iesnium Dust.[3]
- The pack adds the hellforged dust smelting and blasting recipes and the two Hephaestus casting recipes for hellforged. The other ingot recipes are the mod's own.[3]
- The Blood Tank is made by a tiered fluid recipe type, so tank upgrades go through that recipe.[3]
How does Neo Vitae work with other mods?
4 parts
In this pack, Neo Vitae connects to other mods mostly through its Essentia Vitae Source and its Hellforged metal. The recipes below are in the pack. Several are pack additions or pack changes, so don't expect the mods' own defaults.[3]
Fabricating with Essentia Vitae
The pack adds fabricating recipes (a recipe type from FTB Evolution 2 Companion) that take Essentia Vitae as one of their inputs. One group pairs it with Blood from EvilCraft to make items from Baubley Heart Canisters. The Vitality Blade and Vigor Bow recipes are marked as changed by the pack. The Miniature Blue Heart recipe is added by the pack.[3]

Another group pairs Essentia Vitae with the liquid XP fluid from Just Dire Things. These are pack-added recipes for Arcane Codex, Beast Soul and Hunt Standard. The Arcane Codex and Hunt Standard recipes each make 2 items.[3]

The Soul Covenant also needs Essentia Vitae, this time alongside ftb:molten_spirit_attuned. The pack adds this recipe too.[3]
Fabricating (ftbevolutioncompanion)
- 1440× Molten Spirit Attuned
16000× Essentia Vitae Source
Recipe id: ftb:fabricating/soul_covenant
Hellforged metal and Hephaestus Forge
The Hellforged Ingot and Hellforged Block are Neo Vitae items, but the pack gives you a way to cast them from ftb:molten_hellforged using Hephaestus Forge. The ingot is cast on a casting table and the block on a casting basin. Both recipes are added by the pack.[3]

Witchery rite
Just Another Witchery Remake has a ritual recipe, the Rite of Bloodbinding, that uses Neo Vitae's Blood Pearl and Weak Blood Shard together with Witchery's own items. It is a recipe from the mod itself, not one the pack changed.[3]
Ritual (witchery)

Blood orb data map
Neo Vitae's own blood orb data map includes an entry for Transcendent Orb of Vitae. It is listed as tier 5 with an anima capacity of 30,000,000.[6]
Which Neo Vitae config options matter?
6 parts
Almost everything you can tune for Neo Vitae lives in the server config, and in this pack nearly every value in it is the mod default. The file lists the default next to each value, so the few things that are set in a pack-specific way stand out.[8]
Experience fluid
The one setting here that clearly points at another mod is liquified_experience.preferred_fluid. The pack sets it to justdirethings:xp_fluid_source, so the experience array reads and writes the fluid from Just Dire Things. If you left it empty, Neo Vitae would use its own Liquified Experience, and an unknown id falls back to that too.[8]
liquified_experience.mb_per_point is 20 millibuckets per point of stored experience, which is the mod default. The config says to set it to match whichever mod provides the experience fluid.[8]
Startup option
essentiaLogging is true in this pack. It is read before block registration, so changing it needs a full game restart. If another mod's blocks crash the game at startup once Neo Vitae adds its essentia_logged blockstate property to them, set it to false.[15]
Lanterns and summons
- lanterns.spawn_suppression is true, so Blood and Demon Lanterns suppress non-monster spawns. Disabling it bypasses lantern indexing and spawn suppression, and Demon Lantern hostile spawning is unaffected either way.[8]
- demon_lantern.upkeep_per_second is 20 EV per second from the bound player's network while the Demon Lantern runs (mod default).[8]
- sigil_of_necromancy.max_summons_per_player is 10 (mod default). Setting it to 0 removes the per-player limit.[8]
Blood attributes and mending
- Sanguine Ward needs at least 200 EV to activate (blood_attributes.sanguine_ward_min_ev) and drains 50 EV per second while active (blood_attributes.sanguine_ward_drain_per_second). Both are mod defaults.[8]
- Blood Shield costs 100 EV per point of damage prevented (blood_attributes.shield_lp_cost_multiplier), the mod default.[8]
- Blood Siphon uses a multiplier of 10 against non-player targets and 100 against players (blood_attributes.siphon_mob_multiplier, blood_attributes.siphon_player_multiplier). Both are mod defaults.[8]
- Blood mending costs 100 EV per point of durability restored (blood_mending.repair_cost_per_durability), the mod default.[8]
Torment Nexus
The Torment Nexus ritual is also left at the mod defaults. torment_nexus.ev_per_kill is 75 EV per simulated kill, and torment_nexus.max_ev_per_operation caps the cost of one operation at 8,000 EV. Once that ceiling is reached, the remaining kills run free and still produce loot, experience and EV yield. A value of 0 disables the cap.[8]
The spawner scan uses a radius of 5 blocks both horizontally and vertically around the Master Ritual Stone (torment_nexus.horizontal_range, torment_nexus.vertical_range), which gives an 11x11 area on the XZ plane. Loot is capped at 5 rolls per spawner per operation (torment_nexus.max_loot_rolls_per_spawner), with the sampled drops scaled up so total loot stays the same. torment_nexus.ev_modifier_percent is 100, meaning the EV per kill is unchanged.[8]
Spiritus and crystals
- The base per-chunk maximum is 100 for Raw Spiritus (spiritus.max_raw), Vindicta (spiritus.max_vindicta), Ruina (spiritus.max_ruina), Nihilum (spiritus.max_nihilum) and Invictus (spiritus.max_invictus). All are mod defaults.[8]
- spiritus.spawner_capture_cost is 200 spiritus for a Spiritus Gem to capture a spawner or trial spawner with sneak + right-click (mod default).[8]
- Crystal clusters have up to 7 segments (spiritus_crystal.max_count), need 99 spiritus to form (spiritus_crystal.spiritus_to_form) and take 1,000 ticks in the Crystallizer (spiritus_crystal.formation_time). All are mod defaults.[8]
- spiritus_crystal.growth_threshold is 200 (mod default). It is not a minimum: it is the reference saturation for the growth curve, so raising it slows all crystal growth and lowering it speeds growth up.[8]
The file also sets default_upgrade_points to 100, evolution_upgrade_points to 300 and self_sacrifice_conversion to 100.[8]
What changed in Neo Vitae between versions?
4 parts
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Neo Vitae 1.1.36, so everything in that release is in your world. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[16]
1.1.36: the Deus update
This is the big one. It adds a whole Deus tier, built around the Prismatic Spiritus Gem, which the changelog calls the heart of Deus crafting.[17]
- New Deus tools: Deus Cutting Fluid, Explosive Cell, Resonator, Hydration Cell and Reverter. They are forged in the Hellfire Forge and never wear out. Instead they draw 50 EV per use from their owner, and the machine pauses when the network runs dry.[17]
- New Deus rituals: stronger forms of the Well of Suffering, Torment Nexus, Endless Quarry, Crystallum Fractura, Overgrowth, Mason, Fallen Trees and Meteo. Each is ringed with Deus Ritual Stones and woken with a Divinus Activation Crystal.[17]
- The Deus Endless Quarry can mine with Silk Touch or Fortune III, chosen in the Ritual Configurator. Deus meteors are made of ore with no filler stone.[17]
- The Divinus Activation Crystal, the Deus Inscription Tool and the Ritual Diviner [Deus] are added for building Deus rituals. Each is made with a Prismatic Spiritus Gem.[17]
- New Sentient Spear, forged in the Hellfire Forge. It jabs and charges like a Netherite Spear with 0.5 less damage. Like the Sentient Sword, it grows stronger with the Spiritus you carry, applies its Aspect's effects and collects Spiritus from the creatures it slays.[17]
- New Deus Sentient Evolution ritual. Stand on it in Sentient Armor holding 500 Upgrade Points to raise its capacity to 600. Every piece of Sentient Armor you wear is bound with Blood Mending.[17]
1.1.36: behaviour changes
- The Gathering now drops items on top of its chest once the chest is full, instead of carrying them to the owner.[17]
- The Sinner's Burden with Spiritus Nihilum drags flying creatures down until they hover just above the ground, including flyers from other mods.[17]
- With Spiritus Invictus added, the Sinner's Burden also drags down the Wither and forces the Ender Dragon to perch on its portal while it stays in range. Each boss costs more Invictus than before.[17]
- The Collection Array leaves items alone while a nearby Furnace Array is smelting them, then collects the results. Together the two arrays make a hands-off smelter.[17]
1.1.36: fixes
- The Gathering tops up partly filled stacks in its chest even when every slot is taken, and keeps collecting other items when one doesn't fit.[17]
- Incense Altar paths now reach only as far as their material allows: wood paths 3 rings, stone 5, worn stone 7 and obsidian 11. Dirt Paths and Stone Bricks count for the first ring only.[17]
- Obsidian paths now reach far enough for the Incense Altar's highest bonus, 450%. The guide pages explain the layout: four 3-wide paths, twelve path blocks per ring, and the bonus limit for each number of rings.[17]
1.1.34
- Alchemy Flasks can be rinsed with water as the guide describes: right-click water, a water cauldron or a sink with a drained flask, or craft it with a Water Bucket. Sneak to rinse a flask that still has doses left.[18]
- Sneaking lets players escape the Vortex Array's pull.[18]
Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so which pack release introduced each of these changes is not shown. The mod changelogs above only tell you what changed in the mod itself.
