FTB Evolution 2 Companion is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 26.1.2.22. No verified summary yet. A full guide is planned.

What is FTB Evolution 2 Companion?

FTB Evolution 2 Companion is part of the pack's mod list at version 26.1.2.15. It has been in the pack since version 1.0.2 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

How do you get started with FTB Evolution 2 Companion?

3 parts

Welcome to the pack! FTB Evolution 2 Companion is the pack's own companion mod, and the sources I have for it cover only two crafted items. This section is short because of that: where you start, then the two recipes.[2][3]

Where you start

The pack drops you inside the spawn pyramid. spawn.enforce_world_spawn is on, so a player with no bed or respawn anchor lands exactly on the world spawn point on first join and on every respawn, not on top of the pyramid.[3]

The world spawn point is set by three options, one per axis:[3]

The pyramid area also gets its own biome, ftb:pyramid, when spawn.pyramid_biome is on. The config says this gives the spawn pyramid no mob spawns or weather.[3]

Step 1: the FTB Fabricator

The first item to craft from this mod is the FTB Fabricator. The pack adds this as a normal shaped crafting recipe, so you can make it at a crafting table. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[2]

This recipe is added by the pack and uses the standard shaped crafting type.

Step 2: the FTB Skyline

Next up is the FTB Skyline. It does not use a crafting grid. The pack adds a recipe of the mod's own fabricating type for it, which takes 10,000 of a single fluid input. The recipe block below shows exactly what goes in.[2]

FTB SkylineAdded by the pack

Fabricating (ftbevolutioncompanion)

Recipe id: ftb:fabricating/ftb_skyline

A fabricating recipe added by the pack. It needs a large amount of one fluid, so plan ahead.

Tip: Check the recipe block before you start collecting for the Skyline. The 10,000 fluid requirement is the part to plan around.[2]

The sources I have do not describe what these two items do once you have them, so I will not guess. For now, treat the Fabricator and then the Skyline as the order to craft them in.[2]

How does FTB Evolution 2 Companion work?

10 parts

This mod is a small companion that ties the pack together, so it has fewer machines than a big tech mod. What it does have is a crafting chain for two blocks, a self-spreading berry bush, a few world and spawn rules, a team leaderboard and a set of skill effects. Most of the tuning lives in one config file, and I'll point out every value the pack changed from the mod default.[2][3]

FTB Fabricator and FTB Skyline

The pack adds a normal crafting recipe for the FTB Fabricator. Here is the exact in-pack recipe.[2]

The FTB Skyline is not crafted at a table. It uses the mod's own fabricating recipe type, which the pack adds, and its input is a fluid from Ender IO rather than an item.[2]

Both blocks drop themselves when broken. The Fabricator's drop is also protected against explosions.[4][5]

Odd Berry Bush

The odd berry bush is the mod's one farmable plant. It generates in the world at growth stage 2 and untended. It is added during vegetal decoration in forest and taiga biomes, plains, sunflower plains, meadow, cherry grove, grove and sparse jungle. If Terralith is installed, its plains biomes count too.[6][7][8]

Placement tries many times per attempt (a count of 96 behind a rarity filter of 32). A bush only appears on an air block whose block below is in the odd_berry_bush_spreadable tag: grass block, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, podzol, mycelium, moss block, pale moss block, mud, muddy mangrove roots or farmland.[9][10]

Growing, spreading and harvesting

  • Growth: a bush advances one stage on 1 in 12 random ticks, and only in light level 9 or brighter. This is the mod default, and the pack did not change it. Bone meal always advances a stage. See odd_berry_bush.growth_chance.[3]
  • Spreading: tended bushes can spread onto nearby blocks in the spreadable tag while odd_berry_bush.spread is on, and it is on in this pack.[3][10]
  • Spread rate: a tended bush attempts to spread on 1 in 25 random ticks, and higher is slower. This matches the mod default. See odd_berry_bush.spread_chance.[3]
  • Crowding limit: a bush stops spreading once 5 bushes are in the 9x3x9 area around it, set by odd_berry_bush.max_nearby.[3]
  • Harvest: breaking a fully grown bush (age 2) without shears gives 1 to 3 items from the berries tag of Roots Classic. Breaking it with shears drops the bush itself, so you can move it elsewhere.[11]

Meteorites

The pack makes meteorites much more common than the mod default. Average spacing is 16 chunks instead of 48, changed by the pack. The config notes that AE2's own default is 32. See meteorites.spacing.[3]

The minimum distance between meteorites is 6 chunks in this pack instead of the mod default of 12. It must stay below spacing. See meteorites.separation.[3]

Nether meteorites get special handling. With meteorites.relocate_in_nether on, they are placed in a low band near bedrock instead of on the surface heightmap, which would otherwise bury them in the ceiling.[3]

  • Lowest Y for a Nether meteorite core: 8, the same as the mod default. See meteorites.nether_min_y.[3]
  • Highest Y for a Nether meteorite core: 24, also the mod default. The Nether lava sea sits at Y 31, so staying below that keeps meteorites buried under it. See meteorites.nether_max_y.[3]

meteorites.suppress_crater_in_ceiling_dimensions is on, so crater digging and decay are skipped in dimensions with a ceiling. Otherwise AE2 would carve a shaft through the lava sea and the ceiling in the Nether.[3]

Spawn pyramid

spawn.enforce_world_spawn is on. Players with no bed or respawn anchor are put exactly on the world spawn point on first join and on every respawn, rather than on top of the pyramid as vanilla would do.[3]

The spawn point is set on overworld load, so it is correct on the very first join. Each coordinate matches the mod default.[3]

spawn.pyramid_biome generates the ftb:pyramid biome inside a box during overworld worldgen, so the pyramid has no mob spawns or weather. The config says the box must match where the pack places the pyramid. None of the box values differ from the mod default.[3]

Challenge board

The Challenge Board block ranks teams on a leaderboard. It drops itself when broken. The board tracks 10 ranks in this pack (the mod default is 8), set by challenge.board_size. It ranks teams on the FTB Quests chapter named in challenge.chapter, which is pyramid_challenge here.[3][12][13]

  • The server re-ranks teams and pushes the result to every client every 60 seconds (challenge.refresh_seconds).[3]
  • Chat announcements go out every 60 minutes and name each team whose rank changed. Setting the interval to 0 announces as soon as a refresh finds a change, and -1 turns announcements off. See challenge.announce_interval_minutes.[3]
  • With challenge.announce_only_on_change on, an announcement is only posted when at least one rank changed since the last one. When off, every interval posts the whole leaderboard.[3]

Skill effects

The mod also supplies the effects behind the pack's skill attributes, such as Lancer, Storm Caller and Split Shot. Their numbers are in the skills section of the config. Almost all sit at the mod default. The pack changed one: Split Shot volleys now fan out to a maximum half-angle of 8 degrees instead of 3 (skills.multishot_spread).[3][12]

Split Shot volleys can also be arranged in an X instead of the vanilla horizontal fan, and that is on in this pack (skills.multishot_x_pattern).[3]

Bleed

Lancer and Storm Caller

Riposte and Rain of Arrows

Tip: Rituals and machines whose owner is offline pay the base cost instead of the last known skill discount, because skills.ritual_owner_offline_full_cost is on in this pack. Keep that in mind for shared bases.[3]

How do you progress through FTB Evolution 2 Companion?

3 parts

This mod does not have tiers in the usual sense. The sources here show two craftable items and a berry bush that generates in the world, and nothing that ranks them into stages. They are covered below in the order the recipes suggest.[2][9][11]

Step 1: the FTB Fabricator

The FTB Fabricator is a block that drops itself when broken. It has a normal shaped crafting recipe that the pack adds.[2][4]

Added by the pack. This is the in-pack recipe, so use it rather than any default you may remember.

Step 2: the FTB Skyline

The FTB Skyline is not crafted at a table. The pack gives it a recipe of the mod's own fabricating type, and the only input is 10,000 of rocket fuel from Ender IO. That makes it a later item, because you need a working Ender IO setup that produces rocket fuel first.[2]

FTB SkylineAdded by the pack

Fabricating (ftbevolutioncompanion)

Recipe id: ftb:fabricating/ftb_skyline

Added by the pack. The only input is a fluid, 10,000 of Ender IO rocket fuel.

Like the Fabricator, the Skyline block drops itself when broken.[5]

A side find: the odd berry bush

The mod also adds an odd berry bush to world generation. It is added to forest, taiga, plains, sunflower plains, meadow, cherry grove, grove and sparse jungle biomes. If Terralith is installed, its plains biomes get it too.[6][7]

The bush generates fully grown (age 2) and not tended. It can be placed on grass, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, podzol, mycelium, moss, mud and farmland, among other blocks.[8][9][10]

  • Break a grown bush without shears and you get 1 to 3 berries from the berries tag that Roots Classic defines.[11]
  • Break it with shears and you get the bush itself back instead.[11]

How does FTB Evolution 2 Companion work with other mods?

3 parts

Most of what FTB Evolution 2 Companion does is its own thing, but it touches two other mods through its recipes and world generation, and one more through its biome list. Here is what the pack's files confirm.[2][7][11]

Ender IO: fuel for the FTB Skyline

The FTB Skyline is made with a fluid from Ender IO. The recipe uses the mod's own fabricating recipe type, was added by the pack, and needs 10,000 of Fluid Rocket Fuel Still. So you will need a way to produce rocket fuel before you can get a Skyline.[2]

FTB SkylineAdded by the pack

Fabricating (ftbevolutioncompanion)

Recipe id: ftb:fabricating/ftb_skyline

Roots Classic: berries from the odd berry bush

The odd berry bush is this mod's own plant, but its berry drops come from Roots Classic. When you break a fully grown bush (age 2) without shears, it drops 1 to 3 items picked from the Roots Classic berries tag. Break it with shears and you get the bush itself back instead, so you can replant it.[11]

That tag is shared, so any item Roots Classic puts in its berries tag can show up as a drop. These files do not say which berries those are.[11]

Terralith: where the bush grows

The odd berry bush is added to the world in the vegetal decoration step. It can generate in forest and taiga biomes, plains, sunflower plains, meadow, cherry grove, grove and sparse jungle. It also lists the Terralith plains reference tag, marked as optional. With Terralith in the pack, the bush can therefore also appear in the biomes that tag covers.[6][7]

Which FTB Evolution 2 Companion config options matter?

5 parts

Everything for this mod lives in one common config file. Most values are left at the mod default, so I'll start with the ones the pack changed, then cover the options you're most likely to want to tweak.[3]

Values the pack changed

  • challenge.board_size is 10 here (mod default 8, allowed range 1 to 64). It sets how many ranks the leaderboard tracks.[3]
  • meteorites.spacing is 16 here (mod default 48). It is the average distance in chunks between meteorites. The file notes that AE2's own default is 32.[3]
  • meteorites.separation is 6 here (mod default 12). It is the minimum distance in chunks between meteorites, and it must stay less than spacing.[3]
  • skills.multishot_spread is 8 here (mod default 3, range 0.0 to 45.0). It is the maximum fan half-angle in degrees for multishot volleys. Vanilla multishot uses 10.[3]

Every other skills option in the file that lists a mod default is left at that default, so the skill numbers you see in the pack match the mod's own balance apart from the multishot spread above.[3]

Multishot and rituals

skills.multishot_x_pattern is true, so multishot volleys are arranged in an X instead of the vanilla horizontal fan. skills.ritual_owner_offline_full_cost is also true: rituals and machines whose owner is offline pay the base cost instead of the last known skill discount.[3]

Spawn pyramid

spawn.enforce_world_spawn is true. Players with no bed or respawn anchor are put exactly on the world spawn point on first join and on every respawn, instead of vanilla's surface search, which would leave you on top of the spawn pyramid rather than inside it.[3]

The spawn point is set with spawn.spawn_x = 0, spawn.spawn_y = 266 and spawn.spawn_z = 47, all the same as the mod default. spawn.pyramid_biome is true, which generates the ftb:pyramid biome inside the pyramid box so the spawn area has no mob spawns or weather. The box must match where the pack places the pyramid.[3]

Nether meteorites

meteorites.relocate_in_nether is true, so Nether meteorites go in a low Y band near bedrock instead of burying themselves in the ceiling. The band runs from meteorites.nether_min_y = 8 to meteorites.nether_max_y = 24, which keeps cores below the Nether lava sea at Y 31.[3]

meteorites.suppress_crater_in_ceiling_dimensions is also true. It skips crater excavation and decay in dimensions with a ceiling, because otherwise AE2 would carve a shaft through the lava sea and the ceiling in the Nether.[3]
