What is Baubley Heart Canisters?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Baubley Heart Canisters brings back the old Tinkers' Construct heart canisters, reimagined as Curios-slot items. The pack includes version 1.21.1-1.4.1 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]

What it does

You collect heart canisters in four tiers. Red hearts drop from hostile mobs, yellow hearts from boss mobs such as the Wither, green hearts from the Ender Dragon, and blue hearts from Wardens. Each tier can also be crafted from the previous tiers, so check JEI for the exact recipes.[1]

The Heart Amulet holds all of your heart canisters in a single slot. The Soul Heart Amulet works the same way but also takes Soul Heart Canisters. These act like Totems of Undying: they heal you back to max health, then revert to Blue Heart Canisters once used.[1]

Extras worth knowing

  • Vitality Blade: a sword that gains 2 attack damage for each Heart Canister. It is made with the Soul Heart Crystal, which is also used for Soul Amulets.[1]
  • Relic Apple: a crafting item you can also eat, giving Haste II, Strength II and Resistance II for one minute.[1]
  • Wither Bone: a crafting item that drops from Wither Skeletons.[1]
  • Wardens now drop Echo Shards, which makes them renewable.[1]

Who it's for

This mod is for anyone who wants more max health, and a bigger damage boost from the Vitality Blade, as a reward for hunting mobs and bosses. It requires Curios to run. The amulet's slot type, the drops and the starting health are all configurable.[1]

Tip: The project page says heart drops are configurable. It doesn't say whether this pack changed any of them, so check the in-game config and JEI for what you actually get here.[1]

Unverified We found no quests in this pack involving the mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Whether the pack changes any of its drops, recipes or config values is unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Baubley Heart Canisters?

5 parts

Baubley Heart Canisters is all about extra health that you wear in a curio slot. Here is the order I'd go in, from your first hearts to the endgame gear. Check the recipes in JEI as you go, because the blocks below show the exact in-pack versions. Baubley Heart Canisters needs Curios to work.[1]

Step 1: Get your first hearts

Miniature Red Hearts drop from hostile mobs, so you can start collecting them in normal play. Yellow hearts come from boss mobs like the Wither, green hearts from the Ender Dragon, and blue hearts from Wardens. The pack has drop entries for the green dragon and yellow boss hearts in heartEntries.green.dragon and heartEntries.yellow.boss, both set to 1.[1][3]

The Miniature Red Heart has a crafting recipe in the pack too.

Step 2: Make canisters

Heart canisters are what you actually equip. Start with the plain Canister, then make a Red Heart Canister.[4]

Each heart tier can also be crafted from the tier before it, so you aren't stuck waiting on boss drops. The pack's General.heartStackSize is 10. That is the maximum stack size for canisters and also the most full hearts you can get per canister type.[1][5]

Step 3: Craft the Heart Amulet

The Heart Amulet holds all your heart canisters in one slot. Right click it to open it and put your canisters inside.[1][6]

Your base health is not changed by the pack: Server.startingHealth is 20 and Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks is false. Everything extra comes from your canisters.[7]

Step 4: Add a Health Patch for emergencies

The Red Health Patch is a heal you can use in an emergency. In this pack it restores 2 health (half-hearts, so one full heart) with a cooldown of 5 seconds. Those values are the mod's defaults and are set in [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]] and [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]].[4][5]

Step 5: Aim for the Soul Amulet and Vitality Blade

Once you have the higher tiers, the Soul Heart Crystal is a crafting item that goes into the Soul Amulet and the Vitality Blade, so make it first (the recipes are below). The Soul Amulet works like the Heart Amulet but can also hold a Soul Heart Canister. That canister acts like a Totem of Undying that heals you to full, then turns back into a Blue Heart Canister.[1]

How does Baubley Heart Canisters work?

    10 parts

Baubley Heart Canisters is not a machine mod. What the sources describe is a set of heart items you collect, store in canisters and wear in a Curios slot. There is no power, fluid or item-pipe side to it. The mod page says Curios is required, so it is worth knowing how the hearts and amulets work before you go hunting.[1]

Heart tiers and where they drop

    • Red hearts drop from hostile mobs.[1]
    • Yellow hearts drop from boss mobs, for example the Wither.[1]
    • Green hearts drop from the Ender Dragon.[1]
    • Blue hearts drop from Wardens in versions 1.19 and later.[1]

The mod page says all of these drops are configurable. The pack's drops file has both heartEntries.green.dragon and heartEntries.yellow.boss set to 1. The sources here do not explain what that value means in practice.[1][3]

In the game, hold SHIFT on the hearts to see drop info in the tooltip.[6]

    Canisters and the stack limit

Each heart tier has its own canister, such as the Red Heart Canister and the Blue Heart Canister. The Canister is the base item with its own crafting recipe.[4][6]

General.heartStackSize is 10 in the pack, the same as the mod default. It sets the maximum stack size for heart canisters, and also the maximum number of full hearts you can get per heart container type.[5]

    Melted hearts in this pack

Each of the red, yellow, green and blue melted hearts has a smelting recipe. The mod also has recipes that turn one melted tier into 9 of the tier below. The pack removed the old recipes that went the other way (red to yellow, yellow to green, green to blue), so in this pack the conversions only go down.[4][8]

Miniature Blue Heart: the pack's extra routes

The pack adds two extra ways to get the Miniature Blue Heart. One is a fabricating recipe that uses 8,000 Blood from EvilCraft and 8,000 essentia vitae source from Neo Vitae. The other is an Oritech particle collision recipe.[4]

      Amulets and belts

The Heart Amulet holds all heart canisters in a single slot, and you right click it to open it. The mod page says its Curios slot type is configurable.[1][6]

The Soul Amulet works like the Heart Amulet but can also hold Soul Heart Canisters. Both amulets are in the heart_amulets item tag.[1][9]

The red, yellow, green and blue heartpulse belts are grouped in the heart_belts item tag. The red Red Heartpulse Belt is crafted, while the yellow, green and blue ones are smithing recipes. The sources here do not describe what the belts do.[4][10]

      Soul Heart Canister

The Soul Heart Canister can only be used in the Soul Amulet. It acts like a Totem of Undying and heals you back to max health. Once it is consumed, it reverts to a Blue Heart Canister, and the game tells you "Soul Heart Has Been Consumed!".[1][6]

General.soulHeartReturnChance is the chance of getting the Blue Heart Canister back after the Soul Heart is broken. The pack has it at 1, the same as the mod default.[5]

        Health patches

Each health patch heals a set amount and then has a cooldown in seconds. Heal amounts are in half-hearts, so 2 is 1 full heart. The pack's values match the mod defaults:[5]

        • Red: heals 2 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 5 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]]).[5]
        • Yellow: heals 6 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 10 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchCooldown]]).[5]
        • Green: heals 10 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 20 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchCooldown]]).[5]
        • Blue: heals 20 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchHealAmount]]), cooldown 30 ([[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchCooldown]]).[5]

        Vitality Blade and Vigor Bow

The Vitality Blade uses Heart Canisters to gain attack damage, and each canister adds 2. Sneak and right click to open it. The Vigor Bow opens with sneak and left click.[1][6]

The pack changed both recipes. They are now fabricating recipes that cost 16,000 Blood from EvilCraft and 16,000 essentia vitae source from Neo Vitae. The recipe type comes from FTB Evolution 2 Companion.[4]

        Other drops and crafting items

The Wither Bone drops from Wither Skeletons. General.boneDropRate is 0.18 in the pack, the same as the mod default.[1][5]

The mod makes Warden echo shards renewable, because the Warden drops them. General.echoShardDropRate is 0.5 in the pack.[1][5]

The Relic Apple is eaten to gain Haste II, Strength II and Resistance II for one minute.[1]

        Starting health

The pack leaves Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks set to false and Server.startingHealth at 20. The mod page says a starting health of 0 or below resets to the default.[1][7]

How do you progress through Baubley Heart Canisters?

        4 parts

The mod's gear is built around colour tiers: red, yellow, green and blue. Each colour has its own Miniature Heart, Heart Canister, Health Patch, Heartpulse Belt and Melted Heart, and there is a separate Soul line beside them. Here is how the pieces connect in this pack, using the recipes the pack actually ships.[4][10]

        The colour tiers

The mod's belt tag lists the belts in the order red, yellow, green, blue: Red Heartpulse Belt, Yellow Heartpulse Belt, Green Heartpulse Belt and Blue Heartpulse Belt. How you make each one differs.[10]

Melted hearts and the pack's change

Every colour has a smelting recipe for its melted heart: Melted Red Heart, Melted Yellow Heart, Melted Green Heart and Melted Blue Heart. Melted hearts can also be converted downward through the colours, and each of those conversions gives 9 of the next colour: blue to green, green to yellow, and yellow to red.[4]

The pack removes the recipes that would go the other way. The yellow from red, green from yellow and blue from green melted heart conversions are all deleted by the pack's removal script, so you cannot climb back up the colours by crafting.[8]

            Blue hearts: pack additions

The Miniature Blue Heart keeps its normal crafting recipe, but the pack adds more ways to get it. There is an Oritech particle collision recipe, and a fabricating recipe that uses 8,000 Blood from EvilCraft and 8,000 essentia vitae source from Neo Vitae.[4]

The Soul line sits beside the colours, with the Soul Heart Canister, the Soul Heart Crystal and the Soul Amulet. The mod's amulet tag groups the Soul Amulet with the plain Heart Amulet.[4][9]

A few smaller items round out the list. The Relic Apple has a shaped recipe plus a rotated version of it, and a Wither Bone recipe makes 6 bones at a time.[4]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest in the pack's quest book that covers Baubley Heart Canisters, so no quest order for these tiers is confirmed.

How does Baubley Heart Canisters work with other mods?

                2 parts

Baubley Heart Canisters connects to other mods in this pack through recipes that use the FTB Evolution 2 Companion fabricating recipe type. Each of them takes Blood from EvilCraft and Essentia Vitae Source from Neo Vitae as inputs, in matching amounts. That makes these items a good reason to set up both a blood supply and a vitae supply.[4]

                Miniature Blue Heart

The pack adds a fabricating recipe for the Miniature Blue Heart. It needs 8,000 of each input, which is half of what the Vitality Blade and Vigor Bow ask for. The exact recipe is below.[4]

The Vitality Blade and the Vigor Bow both use fabricating recipes that the pack changed. Each one asks for 16,000 of each input. Since this is the pack's version, the recipe you see in the viewer is the one that counts.[4]

Which Baubley Heart Canisters config options matter?

                3 parts

Good news for you: nearly everything here sits at the mod's own default. The config files shipped with the pack show no value that the pack changed for this mod, so what you read in the mod's description is what you get. Here are the options you are most likely to look at.[5][7]

                Starting health

The pack sets Server.allowStartingHealthTweaks to false and Server.startingHealth to 20, which matches the default noted in the config comment. The mod's page says starting health can be changed through the config, and that any value of 0 or below is reset to the default.[1][7]

                Heart canister limits and drops

                Heart patches

Each patch has a cooldown in seconds and a heal amount. The config comment says heal amounts are in half-hearts, so 2 equals 1 full heart. The pack leaves all of them at the mod default:[5]

                • Red: [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchCooldown]] is 5 and [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.redPatchHealAmount]] is 2.[5]
                • Yellow: [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchCooldown]] is 10 and [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.yellowPatchHealAmount]] is 6.[5]
                • Green: [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchCooldown]] is 20 and [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.greenPatchHealAmount]] is 10.[5]
                • Blue: [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchCooldown]] is 30 and [[config:config/bhc-startup.toml#Heart Patches.bluePatchHealAmount]] is 20.[5]
Tip: The heart stack size, drop rates and patch values live in the startup config, which is named that way for a reason. Treat them as settings you decide on before you launch the game, not something to tweak mid-session.[5]

What changed in Baubley Heart Canisters between versions?

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Baubley Heart Canisters version 26.1.2-1.7.3. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a newcomer to this release.[11]

The one change the mod's own changelog lists for this version is a fix so that GUIs have the background blur again.[12]

The sources here do not include any pack changelog entries for this mod, so there is nothing further to report on how it changed between pack releases.[11]
