Animus is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 5.2.19. Putting more Magic in your Blood Magic. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Animus?

3 parts

Animus is an add-on that puts more magic into Blood Magic. It adds new sigils, rituals, weapons and a Tier 6 Blood Altar, and it links Blood Magic to other magic mods. This pack includes Animus 5.2.16.[1][2]

What it adds

  • New sigils powered by your Soul Network. Examples are the Sigil of the Storm for summoning lightning, the Sigil of Equivalency for mass-replacing blocks, and the Sigil of the Free Soul, which gives a ghost mode for scouting and also works as a Totem of Undying.[1]
  • New rituals for automation and world control. Examples are Persistence, which keeps chunks loaded, Serenity, which prevents hostile mob spawns in a large radius, and Culling, an upgraded Well of Suffering.[1]
  • Imperfect Rituals, quick rituals where you place a block on an Imperfect Ritual Stone and activate it. Regression removes repair costs, Enhancement upgrades all enchantments by 1 level, and Clear Skies stops rain and thunder.[1]
  • Weapons and tools such as throwable spears, the Bound Spear, the Sentient Spear, the Sentient Shield and the Sanguine Diviner.[1]
  • A Tier 6 Blood Altar, made possible by Crystallized Demon Will Blocks, plus Willful Stone in 16 colors and the Transcendent Blood Orb for massive LP storage.[1]
  • Corruption and nature: AntiLife, a corrupting fluid made when lightning strikes Life Essence, and Blood Trees whose apples restore hunger and LP.[1]

Playing with friends

The Key of Binding lets a team share one Soul Network. You bind the key to your network and give it to a friend. When they hold it in their offhand or a curio slot, their sigils and bound items draw from your LP. That suits servers where one player focuses on LP generation and the others fight.[1]

Animus has integration with Iron's Spellbooks, Botania, Ars Nouveau and Malum. With Iron's Spellbooks you can cast spells using Life Essence instead of mana. Botania gets LP-powered mana through the Sigil of Boundless Nature, Ars Nouveau gets an altar rune powered by Source, and Malum gets the Runic Sentient Scythe and the Hand of Death.[1]

Tip: Animus includes the Codex Animus, a Patchouli guidebook that covers its features, recipes and mechanics. Craft it first so you can check details without leaving the game.[1]

How do you get started with Animus?

4 parts

Animus builds on Neo Vitae with new sigils, rituals, weapons and a sixth altar tier. Its recipes use Neo Vitae's crafting types, such as the Ara Vitae recipe type, so the early game is about getting the right tools into your hands first. Here is the order I'd go in.[1][3]

First, make the Codex Animus

Start with Codex Animus, the mod's guide book. It is a plain shapeless crafting recipe, so you don't need an altar for it.[3]

Next, craft the Sanguine Diviner

The mod's first advancement asks you to craft a Sanguine Diviner to begin your journey into the deeper arts of Vitaemancy. It is useful too: it diagnoses altar issues, shows ritual info and can auto-place upgrades. It uses an Ara Vitae recipe from Neo Vitae, so you make it at the altar rather than on a crafting table.[1][3][4]

    Then, a few early extras

The Blood Sapling lets you grow your own Blood Wood trees.[4]

The Fragment of Healing is a permanent passive health buff, so it is worth grabbing early.[4]

Tip: Playing with friends? Bind a Key of Binding to your Soul Network and give it to a teammate. While they hold it in their offhand or a curio slot, their sigils and bound items draw from your LP, so one player can focus on LP generation.[1]

          Where it leads

The big long-term goal is the sixth altar tier. The Transcendent Orb of Vitae is the highest-capacity Orb of Vitae in the mod, and the Crystallized Spiritus Block is an alternate capstone for the Transcendent Ara Vitae.[4]

          Ara Vitae Recipe (neovitae)

            Recipe id: animusnv:ara_vitae/blood_orb_transcendent

After that, the sigils are portable tools powered by your Soul Network, for example Sigil of Equivalency for mass block replacement and Sigil of Temporal Dominance to speed up block entities.[1]

Weapons empowered by Spiritus come later too: the Sentient Javelin, the Sentient Shield and the Runic Sentient Scythe.[4]

            How does Animus work?

            7 parts

Animus plugs straight into Neo Vitae: its recipes are made in Neo Vitae stations like the Hellfire Forge, the array, the alchemy table and the Ara Vitae. Most costs in the pack's config are measured in EV. This section covers how the mod's world-changing blocks, rituals and power conversions behave in this pack.[3][5]

            AntiLife and its fluid

AntiLife is a corrupting substance you create with the Sigil of Consumption. It spreads to adjacent blocks of the same type as the original converted block. Each spread consumes Essentia Vitae from the caster who created it, and the corruption reaches up to 8 blocks from its origin.[4]

In this pack the sigil's range is set by animusnv.sigils.antiLifeRange (8 blocks), and the cost is animusnv.sigils.antiLifeConsumption (25 EV per block).[5]

Breaking any AntiLife block starts a decay chain reaction. Adjacent AntiLife blocks begin decaying, the decay spreads to connected AntiLife, and decayed blocks are removed entirely. That stops infinite expansion and lets you clean up corrupted areas. Blocks tagged animusnv:disallow_antilife are protected from conversion.[4]

AntiLife fluid is made by placing Essentia Vitae fluid and striking it with lightning, using a Lightning Rod or the Sigil of the Storm. The change is instant and cannot be reversed. The fluid spreads like water, consumes blocks it touches, and can be collected in buckets. Touched blocks become AntiLife blocks, which keep spreading. Where the fluid contacts Essentia Vitae fluid, it spreads as fluid instead, corrupting large volumes quickly.[4]

Watch out: Handle AntiLife fluid with extreme care. It is not easily contained once released.[4]

The pack changes one AntiLife-related value: the block the Ritual of Siphon places where it extracts fluid (animusnv.rituals.siphonReplacementBlock) is set to animusnv:block_antilife here, where the mod default is animusnv:antilife.[5]

Blood trees and the Blood Core

Plant a Blood Sapling and wait, or speed it up with bonemeal. The tree grows 4 to 6 blocks tall, with a Blood Wood trunk, a Blood Leaves canopy and a Blood Core at the apex.[4][6]

Right-click the Blood Core to toggle it. An active core searches for nearby grass or dirt, places Blood Saplings, instantly grows them into trees, and builds a blood forest over time. With a silk touch tool the core drops itself; otherwise it drops Blood Wood.[4][7]

Tip: Apply bonemeal to an active core to trigger immediate spreading. Blood Leaves drop Blood Saplings when broken, and the guide suggests combining blood forests with tree farms for automated Blood Wood.[4]

The spreading pace is set in the config: animusnv.bloodCore.treeSpreadInterval is 600 ticks between attempts, animusnv.bloodCore.treeSpreadRadius is 16 blocks, and animusnv.bloodCore.leafRegrowthSpeed is 100 ticks (5 seconds) between leaf regrowth attempts. Each Blood Apple adds 50 blood to an altar (animusnv.general.bloodPerApple).[5]

            Ara Vitae Recipe (neovitae)

              Recipe id: animusnv:ara_vitae/blood_sapling

              Crystallized Spiritus Block

The Crystallized Spiritus Block counts as a CRYSTAL block for altar construction. It can stand in for the crystal cluster capstones on the highest tier Ara Vitae, the Transcendent one.[4]

              Stonecutting

                Recipe id: animusnv:crystallized_spiritus_block_from_crystal_cluster

Made by cutting a Crystal Cluster on a stonecutter.

                Sanguine Rectifier: fluid handling

The Sanguine Rectifier works with an altar it finds nearby and holds EvilCraft blood in an internal tank. Its pack settings: it searches a cube of radius 10 for an altar (animusnv.sanguineRectifier.searchRange), transfers 100 mB per tick at base speed, scaling with altar speed runes (animusnv.sanguineRectifier.baseTransferRate), and holds 16,000 mB (animusnv.sanguineRectifier.tankCapacity). Producing blood costs 1 EV per 1 mB (animusnv.sanguineRectifier.evPerBlood); setting that to 0 disables EV-to-blood conversion.[5]

                Rituals: ranges, timing and costs

Each ritual runs on a refresh timer, and many drain EV every cycle. These are the values this pack ships for the main ones. The ritual ranges are also mirrored in the startup config file, with the same values.[5][8]

                • Culling: 10 blocks horizontally and 10 vertically (above and below the stone), refreshing every 25 ticks, draining 75 EV from the owner's Anima per entity culled. Killing bosses costs an extra 25,000 EV, and boss kills are allowed.[5]
                • Culling with raw Spiritus: mobs are killed as if the ritual owner killed them (so player-only drops like blaze rods work), with a 0.1 chance per kill to consume 1 raw Spiritus.[5]
                • Siphon: 32 blocks horizontally, up to 128 deep, refreshing every 10 ticks, 50 EV per fluid block extracted.[5]
                • Relentless Tides: 32 blocks horizontally, up to 128 deep, refreshing every 10 ticks, 50 EV per fluid block placed.[5]
                • Serenity: stops spawns in a 48 block radius for 1 EV per tick, checked every 20 ticks.[5]
                • Persistence: loads a 3 chunk radius for 100 EV per tick, checked every 20 ticks.[5]
                • Sol and Luna: 32 blocks horizontally and 64 blocks below the ritual stone, refreshing every 5 ticks at 1 EV per refresh. Setting the vertical range to -1 searches all the way to the world bottom.[5]
                • Nolite Ignem: puts out fire in a 64 block radius, 10 EV per fire block, refreshing every 20 ticks.[5]
                • Reparare: every 100 ticks it repairs up to 1 damage per item, at 50 EV per damage point.[5]
                • Steadfast Heart: reaches 128 blocks, refreshes every 60 ticks and drains 100 EV per affected player. The maximum absorption amplifier is 4, which gives 5 hearts.[5]
                • Source Vitaeum and Ars Vitae: Source Vitaeum turns 10 Source into 1 EV, and Ars Vitae turns 10 EV into 1 Source, so round-tripping loses value. Each other Master Ritual Stone within 10 blocks doubles the conversion cost, and both rituals refresh every 40 ticks.[5]

                Converting power between mods

                • EV spell casting is enabled: 100 EV per mana point, so a spell costing 50 mana needs 5,000 EV. Hybrid casting is allowed, mixing mana and EV, and a Blood Orb in your inventory or a curio slot is required.[5]
                • Sanguine Scrolls cost mana times EV per mana times 1.5.[5]
                • The Blood Bullet drains 50 EV from the shooter's network per shot.[5]
                • Botania conversion rates in the pack: 2 for EV to mana and 250 for Spiritus to mana. The Rune of Unleashed Nature uses 10 mana per second to keep its acceleration bonus.[5]
                • The Arcane Rune drains 20 Source every 200 ticks.[5]

                Sigil costs

                • Sigil of Equivalency: default radius 1, replaces 5 blocks per tick and costs 1 EV per block replaced.[5]
                • Sigil of the Fast Builder (Sigil of the Fast Builder): range 64 blocks.[5]
                • Sigil of the Free Soul: 5,000 EV per use, 10 seconds of spectator mode, and a 60 second cooldown before it can prevent death again.[5]

How do you progress through Animus?

                2 parts

The sources for this pack don't lay out a tier-by-tier path for Animus, so there's no ladder to invent here. What they do show is which crafting station makes each Animus item. Every station except plain crafting and stonecutting is a Neo Vitae recipe type, so that's the map to follow.[3]

The Codex Animus is a shapeless crafting recipe.

The javelin line spans several stations: the Iron and Diamond Javelins are crafted normally, the Bound Javelin comes from an alchemy array, and the Sentient Javelin is made in the Hellfire Forge, shown here.

Tip: The recipe dump for this pack lists no item inputs for these recipes, so costs can't be given here. Your in-game recipe viewer is the place to check them.[3]

                  Which Animus config options matter?

                  5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide

Animus is configured through two files in this pack: the common file and the startup file. Every option that lists a mod default matches it, with one exception: the block the Ritual of Siphon leaves behind. Start there.[9][10]

The one value the pack changed

animusnv.rituals.siphonReplacementBlock is the block placed where the Ritual of Siphon extracts fluid. This pack sets it to "animusnv:block_antilife", while the mod default is "animusnv:antilife".[9]

                  Casting spells with EV

The EV casting options decide how your Anima pays for spells. In this pack animusnv.ironsSpells.evCasting.enableEVCasting is on, and so is animusnv.ironsSpells.evCasting.allowHybridCasting, which lets a spell use both mana and EV when you don't have enough of either.[9]

Blood-Infused Spellbooks have one EV cost option per tier. These are the values this pack uses:[9]

                  Ritual costs and ranges

The startup file also lists ritual ranges for Culling, Endless Greed, Nolite Ignem, Persistence, Relentless Tides, Serenity and Siphon. In this pack they hold the same values as the matching common file options. For example, startup.ritualRanges.culling.horizontalRange is 10.[9][10]

                  Iframes (hurt cooldown)

animusnv.hurtCooldown.mode is set to BLACKLIST here. In that mode every damage source except the listed ones has no iframes. The list in animusnv.hurtCooldown.sources is inFire, inWall, cactus, lightningBolt, lava and outOfWorld. animusnv.hurtCooldown.affectPlayers and animusnv.hurtCooldown.affectBosses are both false.[9]

                  Sigil of the Free Soul

animusnv.sigils.freeSoulEVCost is 5,000 EV per use. animusnv.sigils.freeSoulDuration is 10 seconds of spectator mode, and animusnv.sigils.freeSoulCooldown is 60 seconds before it can prevent death again.[9]

What changed in Animus between versions?

                  2 parts

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Animus 5.2.16. The mod was already in the pack in 1.0.2 or earlier. The sources here include no pack changelog entries for it, so this section only covers the mod's own changelogs for the two latest versions.[2]

                  5.2.16

                  5.2.15

This one was a fix release, mostly for rituals. Here is what got fixed:[12]

                  • Nature's Leach no longer consumes soil blocks, no longer ignores short grass, and its range sizes and volume limits in the Ritual Tinkerer are corrected.[12]
                  • Sol, Luna, Siphon and Relentless Tides no longer ignore selected area boundaries.[12]
                  • Persistence now respects shifted and rectangular chunk selections.[12]
                  • Steadfast Heart's default radius and its range setting are fixed, so the range is no longer ignored.[12]
                  • Fluid rituals no longer accept multi-block tank selections.[12]
                  • Ritual volume limits no longer display zero in the Ritual Tinkerer.[12]

Since 1.1.0 includes 5.2.16, you get both the 5.2.15 fixes and the 5.2.16 gun modifiers.[2][11][12]
