What is Neo Vitae?

2 parts

Neo Vitae is a blood magic mod: you spill your own blood for power, and everything else grows from that. The pack includes version 1.1.20, and nothing I can see shows the pack changing the mod's recipes or values, so what follows describes the mod as it ships.[1][2]

What you'll be doing

The centerpiece is the Ara Vitae, a multiblock altar that consumes Essentia Vitae to transmute items. Drop in a Blood Orb and the altar starts sharing your Anima, a personal pool of essentia that follows you between worlds and dimensions. The altar has six tiers, and rune rings bend how it behaves.[1]

From there the mod branches out. Sigils are one-handed tools that each do a specific job for a specific essentia cost. The Sigil of Holding carries up to nine other sigils at once. The Tabula Vitae brews alchemy flasks and anointments, which are tool and weapon coatings. The Hellfire Forge makes Sentient gear that grows stronger on the souls of mobs you kill.[1]

There is more beyond that. Rituals run off a Master Ritual Stone, and the mod lists 30+ of them. Spiritus is a second resource layer split into five aspects. A Dungeon dimension, reached through a ritual, is an endless procedurally generated network of rooms inhabited by a roster of custom demons. Holding any tier of Blood Orb also weaves a Sanguine Ward, a personal shield that spends your essentia to absorb damage.[1]

Who it's for

This is for you if you like a long magic progression that starts small and ends with demon-forged gear and a dungeon of your own. It also suits you if you enjoy building multiblocks and automating with routing nodes. You don't have to learn it from a wiki alone: the mod ships its own in-game guidebook, Scriptura Vitae, which is meant to teach the systems rather than just list them.[1]

Tip: The mod also supports JEI, Jade and Curios, so recipe lookups, tooltips on altars and tanks, and equippable items like the Training Bracelet are all covered.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests in this pack involving Neo Vitae, or a place for it on the ATM Star path. This guide doesn't place the mod in a quest progression, so treat it as an optional magic branch you explore on your own.

How do you get started with Neo Vitae?

4 parts

Neo Vitae is a blood-magic mod. You spend life essence to power altars, sigils and rituals. Everything starts at the Ara Vitae, a multiblock altar that consumes Essentia Vitae to transmute items. Drop a Blood Orb into it and the altar starts sharing your Anima, a personal essentia pool that follows you between worlds, dimensions and containers.[1]

Step 1: grab the guide book

Craft the Scriptura Vitae first. The mod ships a full in-game guide with a dedicated Getting Started chapter, and the pack uses the mod's own recipe for the book.[3][4]

Step 2: your first Blood Orb

The altar needs an Orb of Vitae to tap your Anima. The mod's advancements name the first milestone as crafting your first Orb of Vitae. After that they chain through Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4 orb upgrades, and there is a final Transcendent orb. Six tiers of Orbs exist in total.[1][5]

Step 3: build the Ara Vitae

The altar comes in six construction tiers. A bare stone box crafts cheap reagents, and higher tiers add rings of runes that change how the altar behaves. Those runes are Speed, Acceleration, Charging, Capacity, Sacrifice, Dislocation and Orb, each with a Reinforced version. Start with the altar block itself, then add Blank Rune as your base for runes.[1][4]

Tip: Runes only matter once the altar is up. Get a working tier first, then add Speed, Capacity and the other runes as your essentia needs grow.[1]

Step 4: the next milestones

  • Hellfire Forge: the mod has an advancement for crafting it. The forge is where Sentient weapons and armor are crafted, and it can also imbue an item with Blood Mending.[1][5]
  • Incense Altar: it has its own advancement for crafting it.[5]
  • Ritual Diviner and Master Ritual Stone: these start the ritual side of the mod. Advancements cover crafting the Diviner, placing a Master Ritual Stone, and activating your first ritual.[1][5]

Sigils come later. You make them at a Tabula Vitae by combining a Blood Orb with the right reagents.[1]

Unverified The exact recipe for the first Orb of Vitae, and the order the in-game guide presents its Getting Started chapters in, could not be confirmed from the available sources. The order above follows the mod's milestones, not a verified progression.

How does Neo Vitae work?

7 parts

Everything in Neo Vitae runs on blood, or more exactly on Essentia Vitae (EV). The Ara Vitae is a multiblock altar that consumes EV to transmute items. This section covers how the main pieces fit together.[1]

The Ara Vitae and your Anima

The Ara Vitae is the heart of the mod. Drop a Blood Orb into it and the altar starts sharing your Anima. That is a personal pool of essentia that follows you between worlds, dimensions and containers, so your EV isn't tied to one altar.[1]

This is the altar block's recipe as listed for the pack.

The altar has six construction tiers. A bare stone box at the bottom tier crafts cheap reagents. Higher tiers add rings of runes that change how the altar behaves: Speed, Acceleration, Charging, Capacity, Sacrifice, Dislocation, Orb, and their Reinforced counterparts. Cap stones at the higher tiers drive alchemy array projections that float above the structure while it works, and each tier has more elaborate visuals. Orbs of Vitae also come in six tiers, and they raise the network's capacity.[1]

The Sanguine Ward

If you hold any tier of Blood Orb, your essentia pool weaves a Sanguine Ward around you. It absorbs incoming damage at a steady cost in EV per second, and it burns through your Anima before you take the wound. The mod lets pack makers tune the ward in the server config.[1]

Alchemy arrays

Alchemy arrays are the most basic form of the craft. You inscribe one with the Arcane Scribe Tool by holding it and using it on a solid surface. Each inscription uses one charge, and the tool holds twenty uses before it wears out.[5]

  1. Inscribe the empty array on a solid surface. It does nothing until you give it items.[5]
  2. Click the array with an item to place the base component. If the base is recognized, the glyph changes shape, which tells you you're on the right path.[5]
  3. Place a second item as the catalyst. If both are valid, the array activates.[5]
  4. Both components are consumed when the array activates, and only the result remains.[5]

In a crafting array, the essence of the base is inscribed onto the catalyst, and the two are transmuted into something new. Some of these need only common materials. Others need reagents made by more advanced means. Most sigils, reagents and bindings start out in a crafting array.[5]

Defensive arrays

  • The Repulsion Array pushes hostile creatures away in a 5-block radius. It is cheap to inscribe, needing only iron and lapis.[5]
  • The Deflection Array reflects any projectile passing through its column back the way it came. It protects a column roughly 6 blocks tall and 3 blocks wide. You inscribe it with a Tabula Animata and a diamond.[5]

Crafting stations and rituals

The Tabula Vitae is a six-input alchemical bench. Drop a Blood Orb into it with the right reagents to make a Sigil. It also brews Alchemy Flasks and Anointments. The Hellfire Forge crafts Sentient weapons and armor, which grow stronger from the souls of mobs you kill.[1]

Rituals are anchored with a Master Ritual Stone and its runes, and each one can be permanent or one-shot. Every ritual takes its stats from a data map, so pack makers can retune costs, ranges and effects in JSON without recompiling the mod.[1]

Spiritus

Spiritus is a second resource layer alongside blood. It comes in five aspects: Raw, Ruina (decay), Nihilum (void), Vindicta (vengeance) and Invictus (resilience). Hostile mob kills feed an aspect-aligned pool stored per player. Spiritus Crystals placed in the world draw the local field into harvestable clusters, biased toward whichever aspect you've configured. Crystals power sentient weapons, advanced upgrades and several rituals.[1]

Pack config

This pack sets essentiaLogging to false. The option is read before block registration, so changing it needs a full game restart. The config's own note says to keep it false if another mod's blocks crash the game at startup once Neo Vitae adds its essentia_logged blockstate property to them.[6]

How do you progress through Neo Vitae?

2 parts

I can't give you a full tier-by-tier breakdown for Neo Vitae in this pack, because the material I have only confirms the outline of the progression, not the details. The best route is the mod's own in-game guide, Scriptura Vitae, which you craft like this:[4]

How the in-game guide splits the tiers

The guide's getting-started chapters are split into six tiers. Only the chapter titles are visible to me, so treat the list below as a map of where to look and not as a description of what each tier contains.[7][8][9][10][11][12]

  • Tier 1 has separate entries for the altar, alchemy, arrays and the forge.[7][13][14][15]
  • Tier 2 has a main entry plus a potions entry.[8][16]
  • Tier 3 has a main entry plus a dungeon entry.[9][17]
  • Tier 4 is the largest, with entries on armour (four parts), demon and will, plus the main tier entry.[10][18][19][20][21][22][23]
  • Tier 5 and tier 6 each have a single entry.[11][12]

Pack-specific changes

The pack adds its own recipes for two Neo Vitae items: Saltpeter and Hellforged Dust. Both are marked as added by the pack and not as mod recipes. The dump doesn't list their inputs, so the recipe blocks below are the place to check what you need.[4]

Unverified No quests in this pack are known to involve Neo Vitae, and the mod is not on the ATM Star quest path. The exact ingredients, costs and requirements for each tier could not be confirmed from the available data, so follow the in-game guide and the recipe viewer for those. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Neo Vitae work with other mods?

1 part

The recipes I can confirm for this pack show one link between Neo Vitae and another mod, and it runs through Productive Bees.[4]

Productive Bees: Raw Demonite from the centrifuge

Productive Bees has a centrifuge recipe that outputs Raw Demonite and Wax. The recipe id points to a hellfire honeycomb. So if you keep bees, the centrifuge can be a way to get Raw Demonite alongside your usual Wax.[4]

Which Neo Vitae config options matter?

    2 parts

Neo Vitae doesn't have a huge pile of knobs in this pack. Two files matter: one startup toggle, and a materials list that controls how ores get processed. Here's how the pack sets them.[6][24]

    Startup: essentia logging

The pack sets essentiaLogging to false. This option is read before block registration, so if you ever change it you need a full game restart, not just a world reload.[6]

The reason it exists: Neo Vitae adds an essentia_logged blockstate property to other mods' blocks, and in some cases that can crash the game at startup. The config comment says to keep it false if you run into that. In this pack it's already false, so you don't need to touch it.[6]

Watch out: If you edit the essentia logging option, restart the whole game afterwards. The file notes that changing it needs a full restart.[6]

    Ore processing: materials.json

is a list of materials. Each entry describes a processing chain, how many dusts you get from an ore, what the dust smelts into, and how much XP that smelting gives.[24]

Most entries, such as iron, gold and copper, use the stages fragment, gravel and dust. Each of those has a dust_yield_from_ore of 3 and a smelt_xp of 0.7 for iron and copper, or 1 for gold.[24]

Coal is the odd one out. It only has a dust stage, and its dust_yield_from_ore is 6 instead of 3.[24]

The list also covers materials from other mods in the pack. Tin smelts into an alltheores ingot, and the allthemodium, vibranium and unobtainium entries smelt into their allthemodium ingots. Netherite scrap is shown under the display name Ancient Debris.[24]

Unverified Which of these materials.json values differ from Neo Vitae's own defaults isn't confirmed by the sources, so treat them as how this pack is set up rather than as confirmed pack changes.

What changed in Neo Vitae between versions?

    2 parts

All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Neo Vitae 1.1.20. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. It is a pick of the changes you are most likely to notice, not every line.[2]

    1.1.x releases

    • 1.1.20 (the version in this pack): Sentient armor is back to its correct durability and now accepts the Reagent Binding for repairs. The Lex Vitae can also be repaired in an anvil.[2][25]
    • 1.1.15: Dusk Ritual Stones became Tenebrae Ritual Stones and Dawn Ritual Stones became Deus Ritual Stones. The Dusk Inscription Tool and Ritual Diviner [Dusk] were renamed to match. Existing worlds carry over, so placed stones and stored tools keep working. The Ritual of Enchanted Vitae now properly requires Tenebrae Ritual Stones.[26]
    • 1.1.15: A blood orb's fluid readout is now called Stored Blood, and blood orbs show roughly how much Vitae is in your Anima network. Use a Divination Sigil for an exact reading.[26]
    • 1.1.13: Synthetic Upgrade Points and the Upgrade Tome Scrap were removed.[27]
    • 1.1.9: Essentia Vitae now soaks into blocks the way water does, keeps farmland hydrated, and flows more slowly. An empty bucket takes it back.[28]
    • 1.1.9: The Ritual of the Overgrowth grows crops about 25% faster, and Crystallum Fractura costs about 20% less Essentia Vitae to keep running. The Ritual of the Harvest also got cheaper to run.[28]
    • 1.1.9: The Tome of Peritia opens a proper window, and you can store or withdraw 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 levels at a time, or everything at once. The release also added the Liquified Experience fluid and an Array of Liquified Experience that drains Tomes of Peritia from a chest into a tank.[28]
    • 1.1.9: Athanor recipes no longer have to list their guaranteed and chanced outputs, so a recipe that only produces a fluid is now possible.[28]
    • 1.1.2: Fixes for being kicked to the title screen when joining a world, blank JEI recipe details, and explosions breaking the indestructible dungeon blocks.[29]

    1.0.x releases

    • 1.0.26: Diamond, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli, Nether Quartz and Amethyst got full material processing chains like the metals. The Well of Suffering now channels Essentia Vitae into a nearby Ara Vitae, whose orb sets the limit, so it needs an Ara Vitae in range to work.[30]
    • 1.0.25: Added the Array of Imprisonment for retargeting monster spawners, and the Ritual of Butchering. The Ritual of Accelerated Aging became the Ritual of the Shepherd, which also breeds ready adults on its own. Spiritus Gems can now pocket spawners when they hold at least 200 Spiritus.[31]
    • 1.0.23: The Lex Vitae beam moved to a rebindable key and gained a mode toggle that cycles between Mining, Damage and Both. The Brilliance upgrade now goes up to level 6. Modonomicon 2.0.0 or newer became required for the guide book.[32]
    • 1.0.19: Fixed Spiritus souls from the dungeon's demonic mobs dropping empty, and Spiritus gems worn in a Curios slot now collect and spend Spiritus again.[33]
    • 1.0.15: The Athanor can disenchant items with a Sanguine Reverter in the tool slot, at a cost of 5 raw spiritus and 100 mB of Essentia Vitae per enchantment moved. Dungeon rituals now check for clear space before activating.[34]
    • 1.0.12: Crystallum Fractura no longer shatters Spiritus Crystal clusters, so a single seeded cluster keeps producing. It also drops its harvest into a chest placed directly atop the Master Ritual Stone.[35]
Tip: If you are carrying an old world forward, the 1.1.15 stone rename keeps placed Tenebrae and Deus Ritual Stones and stored tools working, so you do not need to rebuild your rituals.[26]
