What is Baubley Heart Canisters?

Baubley Heart Canisters brings back the old Tinkers' Construct heart canisters, reimagined as Curios-slot items. The pack includes version 1.21.1-1.4.1 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[1][2]

What it does

You collect heart canisters in four tiers. Red hearts drop from hostile mobs, yellow hearts from boss mobs such as the Wither, green hearts from the Ender Dragon, and blue hearts from Wardens. Each tier can also be crafted from the previous tiers, so check JEI for the exact recipes.[1]

The Heart Amulet holds all of your heart canisters in a single slot. The Soul Heart Amulet works the same way but also takes Soul Heart Canisters. These act like Totems of Undying: they heal you back to max health, then revert to Blue Heart Canisters once used.[1]

Extras worth knowing

  • Vitality Blade: a sword that gains 2 attack damage for each Heart Canister. It is made with the Soul Heart Crystal, which is also used for Soul Amulets.[1]
  • Relic Apple: a crafting item you can also eat, giving Haste II, Strength II and Resistance II for one minute.[1]
  • Wither Bone: a crafting item that drops from Wither Skeletons.[1]
  • Wardens now drop Echo Shards, which makes them renewable.[1]

Who it's for

This mod is for anyone who wants more max health, and a bigger damage boost from the Vitality Blade, as a reward for hunting mobs and bosses. It requires Curios to run. The amulet's slot type, the drops and the starting health are all configurable.[1]

Tip: The project page says heart drops are configurable. It doesn't say whether this pack changed any of them, so check the in-game config and JEI for what you actually get here.[1]

Unverified We found no quests in this pack involving the mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. Whether the pack changes any of its drops, recipes or config values is unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Baubley Heart Canisters?

Baubley Heart Canisters brings back the old Tinkers' Construct heart canisters as Baubles/Curios items you wear. Getting started is about collecting hearts, crafting canisters from them, and giving the canisters a home in an amulet. Here's the order I'd go in.[1]

Watch out: The mod's project page says Curios is required (for 1.16 and later), and that Mantle or Health Overlay is optional but recommended. If your canisters have nowhere to be worn, check that first.[1]

Step by step

  1. Pick up red hearts. The mod's project page says they drop from hostile mobs, so you'll find them just by playing normally. It also says the drops are configurable.[1]
  2. Craft a Canister. The pack has its own recipe for it, shown below.[3]
  3. Craft a Red Heart Canister, the red tier of heart canister. It is a shapeless crafting recipe in the pack.[3]
  4. Craft a Heart Amulet. It holds all your heart canisters in one slot, so you don't need a separate slot for each one.[1][3]
  5. Right click the amulet to open it and manage what's inside.[4]

Tip: The mod recommends checking JEI or a similar recipe viewer for the recipe of each heart tier. Some mod items also show a tooltip line, "Hold SHIFT for drop info".[1][4]

Climbing the heart tiers

Hearts come in four tiers. The project page says red hearts drop from hostile mobs, yellow hearts from boss mobs such as the Wither, green hearts from the Ender Dragon, and blue hearts from Wardens. It also says each tier can be crafted using the previous tiers, so you don't have to wait for a boss drop.[1]

This pack has crafting recipes for the miniature hearts and a canister recipe for each colour. Here is the yellow tier as an example.[3]

Where it goes from here

Once you have a few canisters, the next goals are the Soul Heart Crystal and the Soul Amulet. The Soul Amulet acts just like the Heart Amulet but can also hold Soul Heart Canister items. Those work like Totems of Undying that heal you back to max health, and once consumed they revert to Blue Heart Canisters.[1]

The crystal is also a crafting item for the Vitality Blade, a sword that gains 2 attack damage for each heart canister. Sneak and right click it to open it.[1][4]

How does Baubley Heart Canisters work?

Good news: there's no machine, multiblock, power or fluid setup to learn here. Baubley Heart Canisters is all about wearable heart items that you collect, craft and slot into a Curios-style accessory slot. The sources cover no automation of any kind, so this section explains how the hearts and canisters work.[1]

Getting hearts

Each heart color drops from a different kind of mob. Red hearts drop from hostile mobs and yellow hearts from boss mobs such as the Wither. Green hearts drop from the Ender Dragon, and blue hearts drop from Wardens on 1.19 and newer. The mod's project page says all of these drops are configurable.[1]

The pack ships no config files for this mod that I can check, so I can't confirm whether it changed any drop. Treat the drops above as the mod's own behavior. In game, hold Shift on a heart item to see its drop info.[1][4]

You can also craft each tier of heart from the previous tiers. The mod recommends checking JEI or a similar recipe viewer for the exact recipes. Melted hearts exist for every color except the Soul canister, and the pack has smelting and conversion recipes for them, for example Melted Red Heart and Melted Blue Heart.[1][3]

Canisters and amulets

The Heart Amulet holds all of your heart canisters in one slot. Which Curios slot type it uses is configurable, either in game or in the config file. Right click the amulet to open it.[1][4]

The Soul Amulet works just like the Heart Amulet, but it can also hold Soul Heart Canisters. It is crafted with a custom amulet recipe type.[1][3]

A Soul Heart Canister can only be used in the Soul Amulet. It acts like a Totem of Undying and heals you back to max health. Once it is consumed, it reverts to a Blue Heart Canister. In the pack, Soul Heart Canisters are made with a smithing recipe.[1][3]

    The Vitality Blade uses your heart canisters to gain attack damage. Each Heart Canister increases the damage by 2. Sneak and right click it to open it.[1][4]

    The Vigor Bow opens the same way, but with sneak and left click. The sources don't explain what it does once opened, so I can't describe its effects.[3][4]

    Other items and settings

    Wither Bone is a crafting item that drops from Wither Skeletons. Relic Apple is also a crafting item. Eating it gives you Haste II, Strength II and Resistance II for one minute. The pack has two recipes for it, a normal one and a rotated one.[1][3]

    The mod also changes the Warden so it drops Echo Shards, which makes them renewable. Starting health can be changed in the config, and any value of 0 or below resets to the default.[1]

    Tip: The pack's config for this mod isn't available to me, so the pack may use different drops or starting health than the mod defaults. Check the in-game config before you plan a heart farm.[1]

    How do you progress through Baubley Heart Canisters?

    This pack has no quests for the mod, so there is no quest-guided order to follow. What you do have is the recipe data, which shows how the colour tiers are laid out and which crafting method each item uses. The ingredients are on the recipe cards below.[3]

    The colour tiers

    The mod's hearts come in red, yellow, green and blue. Each colour has a Miniature Heart, a Heart Canister, a Health Patch and a Melted Heart. For red that is Miniature Red Heart, Red Heart Canister, Red Health Patch and Melted Red Heart, and yellow, green and blue follow the same pattern.[3]

    The base Canister is a shaped crafting recipe, and so are the Miniature Hearts and Health Patches of every colour. The red, yellow, green and blue Heart Canisters are all shapeless crafting recipes.[3]

    Melted hearts and converting between colours

    Every colour of Melted Heart has a smelting recipe, so you can make Melted Red Heart, Melted Yellow Heart, Melted Green Heart and Melted Blue Heart by smelting.[3]

    There are also crafting recipes that convert a Melted Heart into a neighbouring colour. Red and yellow convert into each other, yellow and green convert into each other, and green and blue convert into each other. The recipes only link neighbouring colours, so the conversions form a chain from red to blue.[3]

    Soul Heart Canister is made with a smithing transform recipe, not normal crafting. Soul Heart Crystal is a shaped crafting recipe, and Soul Amulet uses the mod's own amulet recipe type.[3]
