What is Create?
2 parts
Create is all about building working machines that you can actually watch run. The mod offers tools and blocks for building, decoration and what it calls aesthetic automation. Instead of clicking through menus, you set up contraptions of animated parts that work together, and it leaves a lot of the design up to you.[1]
This pack includes Create 0.5.1.b (the 1.18.2 build). From 0.5.1 on, the Flywheel rendering library no longer has to be installed separately.[1][2]
Who it's for
It's for you if you enjoy designing and building automation rather than just wiring up boxes. It also suits you if you like your factories to look good while they run.[1]
Learning it in the pack
Create has a visual in-game guide called Ponder, which walks you through all the added mechanics and gadgets. Hold on to that, because it's your best teacher. The mod's developers also recommend JEI, since the vanilla recipe book can't show you every Create recipe.[1]
The pack's quest book gets you started with a few early Create items. One quest asks for a Cogwheel, another for a Water Wheel, and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_create}" quest asks for an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press. The quest ids are a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" for the cogwheel and a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" for the water wheel.[3]
Unverified The sources I have don't confirm exactly where Create sits in the pack's wider progression, or whether any quest chain beyond these three early tasks depends on it, so check the in-game quest book.
How do you get started with Create?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 3.6b guide
Create is all about animated machines you build and power yourself, and its in-game Ponder screens walk you through each mechanic. The mod's own page also recommends installing JEI to see every recipe, since the vanilla recipe book won't guide you. This pack changes several Create recipes, so trust the recipe blocks below over any older tutorial you remember.[1][4]
Step 1: Cogwheel
Your first goal is the Cogwheel, which has its own quest a quest in "?". The pack changed both of its recipes: the normal crafting one and a deploying one.[4][5]
Deploying (create)
Shaft
- any treated wood
Recipe id: create:deploying/cogwheel
The deploying version, also changed by the pack.
Step 2: Water Wheel
Next comes the Water Wheel (quest a quest in "?"). The pack changed this recipe too, and it is built around the Large Cogwheel.[4][5]

Step 3: Mechanical Press and Encased Fan
After basic power, one quest asks for both the Mechanical Press and the Encased Fan: "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_create}" quest. Both use Igneous Zinc Casing (called Igneous Zinc Casing here) and the Shaft. The pack changed the press recipe, while the fan recipe is the mod's own.[4][6]

Recipe id: create:crafting/kinetics/mechanical_press
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: create:crafting/kinetics/encased_fan
Create's own advancements describe the press as the machine that makes sheets, and the fan as something you place and power so it can process materials.[7]
Looking ahead: Precision Mechanism
Later you will want the Precision Mechanism. It is made through a sequenced assembly, and the pack changed that recipe as well.[4]

Unverified The recipes for the Shaft, the Large Cogwheel, the Igneous Zinc Alloy and the Igneous Zinc Casing were not in the sources for this section. Check them in JEI before you plan your first build. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Create work?
6 parts
Create isn't played inside menus. You build contraptions out of animated parts that work together, and the mod's in-game guide, Ponder, walks you through each mechanic. The sources I have don't spell out exact numbers like stress capacities or machine speeds, so this section covers how the systems fit together and what the pack's own files confirm.[1]
Rotational power
Everything starts with torque. The mod's advancements point to a few early generators: a Water Wheel, an assembled windmill, and a Steam Engine fed by a boiler. There is also a Hand Crank that you can use until you've fully exhausted it.[7]
You move that rotation around with Shafts and cogwheels. Linking a Large Cogwheel to a Small Cogwheel changes the speed, and a Rotation Speed Controller lets you fine-tune it. A Stressometer read with Engineer's Goggles gives you an exact readout, and getting a 100% readout even has its own advancement.[7][8]
The pack keeps the overstress warning on. With client.enableOverstressedTooltip enabled, you get a tooltip when you look at overstressed components. client.enableRainbowDebug is also enabled, so kinetic debug information shows on blocks while the F3 menu is open.[9]
Casings and the key alloy
The advancements call Andesite Alloy Create's most important resource, but in this pack that item, Igneous Zinc Alloy, is named Igneous Zinc Alloy. Applying it to stripped wood gives you the basic casing for your machines. Brass Ingots on stripped wood give a casing for more sophisticated machines, and Copper Ingots give a waterproof one.[7][8]
Brass comes from alloying Copper and Zinc Ingots in a Mechanical Mixer heated by a Blaze Burner. Train parts use their own casing, made from Sturdy Sheets.[7]
Processing machines
- Mechanical Press: makes sheets, and with a Basin it compacts many items into fewer.[7]
- Mechanical Mixer: combines ingredients. It needs a Blaze Burner for heated recipes like brass.[7]
- Encased Fan: processes materials. You tune the particle effect with client.fanParticleDensity, which is 0.5 in this pack.[7][9]
- Millstone and Crushing Wheels: the Millstone pulverises materials. A set of Crushing Wheels must be placed and powered.[7]
- Mechanical Saw: processes materials when it's upright.[7]
- Deployer: you place and power it, and it acts as a reflection of yourself. Mechanical Crafters also need to be placed and powered.[7]
Fluids
Fluids travel through a pipe network, and a Mechanical Pump needs to be placed and powered. You can collect water with the pulling end of a Fluid Pipe or a Mechanical Pump, and a Hose Pulley drains or fills a body of fluid. A big enough body of lava counts as infinite for the Hose Pulley. Using a Wrench on a pipe that contains fluid is also something the advancements reward.[7]
Item Drains empty fluid-containing items and Spouts fill them. Spouts can also make food like Chocolate Glazed Berries, a Honeyed Apple and a Sweet Roll. A single Fluid Tank can take 12 uniquely pitched Steam Whistles.[7]
The Copper Backtank accumulates air pressure. Paired with a diving helmet, it lets you jump into water. The pack changed the crafting recipes for the backtank, the helmet and the boots.[7][8]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: create:crafting/appliances/copper_backtank
The pack changed this recipe from the mod default.
The Copper Diving Helmet and Copper Diving Boots recipes are pack changes too, so check them in JEI rather than relying on the mod's defaults.[8]
Item handling and automation
Mechanical Belts link Shafts together, Chutes transport items, and Funnels extract items from or insert them into a container. A Mechanical Arm moves items between its targets. It can feed a Blaze Burner, operate a Jukebox, and be programmed with 10 or more output locations.[7]
The List Filter (List Filter) and Attribute Filter are the filter items you'll use in setups. The Clipboard helps with setup, because settings such as filters can be copied with a right-click and applied elsewhere with a left-click.[7][8]
For wireless control, the Linked Controller activates a Redstone Link. Display Links send information to Display Boards, including a train's forecast arrival.[7][8]

Contraptions and trains
Contraptions are assembled structures, for example on a Clockwork Bearing, a Rope Pulley, or as Minecart Contraptions. Super Glue holds blocks together as a group. Drills, saws and harvesters can ride along on a contraption, and a Portable Storage Interface lets you take items from or insert them into one.[7]
Large contraptions can cause lag. The pack sets client.maximumContraptionLightVolume to 16,384, the maximum number of blocks for which dynamic lighting is calculated. Lower it if a big contraption hurts performance.[9]
Trains follow a Train Schedule given to the driver, and you can assemble a Steam Whistle onto one. Some debug options are off by default: client.trains.showTrackGraphOnF3 shows a railway network's nodes and edges in F3 debug mode, and client.trains.showExtendedTrackGraphOnF3 adds materials.[7][8][9]
Unverified Exact stress capacities, stress impacts, rotation speeds and fluid throughput in this pack are not confirmed by the available sources, so check them in-game with Ponder, the Stressometer and JEI. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you progress through Create?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 3.6b guide
Create in this pack opens with a short quest line, and several of the recipes behind it are different from the mod's defaults. Here is what the pack's quests ask for and how each recipe is crafted here.[4][5][6]
Tier 1: Cogwheels and Water Wheels
The first Create chapter has two quests. One asks you to obtain a Water Wheel, and the other asks for a Cogwheel. These are your first steps into kinetic power: a cogwheel moves rotation along, and a water wheel generates it.[5]
The pack changed the Cogwheel recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. The recipe below is the one that counts in this pack.[4]
The pack also changed the Cogwheel recipe for the deploying machine, so deployer automation follows the pack's version too.[4]
The Water Wheel recipe is another pack change, and it builds on the Large Cogwheel.[4]

Tier 2: Early Create Machines
The next quest, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_create}" quest, is the early-Create step. It asks you to get an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press. Both need Igneous Zinc Casing, which this pack calls Igneous Zinc Casing, plus a Shaft.[4][6]
The Encased Fan recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[4]

Recipe id: create:crafting/kinetics/encased_fan
The Mechanical Press is different. The pack changed its recipe, so check the version below before you gather materials.[4]

Looking Ahead: Precision Mechanisms
The pack also changed the sequenced assembly recipe for the Precision Mechanism. It runs through the Incomplete Precision Mechanism, so use the pack's recipe rather than guides written for the mod's defaults.[4]

Unverified The sources show no quests beyond the early-Create step, so I can't confirm what comes after it, such as brass-tier progression, or whether Create belongs on the main progression path.
How does Create work with other mods?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 3.6b guide
Create is the backbone of the pack's automation, and the pack ties it into several other mods. Most of it comes from in-pack recipes: TFC metals and wood, Immersive Engineering and Thermal materials, Firmalife food, plus add-ons like Create Additions and Create Teleporters. Here's how it all connects.[4]
Ores and metals
Create's crushed ores don't give you vanilla ingots here. Many of the smelting and blasting recipes were changed by the pack so they output TFC ingots instead. Aluminium and uranium are the exception: those are untouched mod recipes that give you Immersive Engineering ingots.[4]
- Smelting or blasting Crushed Raw Copper, Crushed Raw Gold, Crushed Raw Zinc, Crushed Raw Tin, Crushed Raw Nickel and Crushed Raw Silver gives you the matching TFC ingot, such as Copper Ingot or Zinc Ingot. These recipes are all pack changes.[4]
- Crushed Raw Iron smelts into a Wrought Iron Ingot, not a vanilla iron ingot.[4]
- Crushed Raw Lead smelts into an Lead Ingot, and Crushed Raw Aluminum and Crushed Raw Uranium give Aluminium Ingot and Uranium Ingot.[4]
- Washing crushed ores gives nuggets. Crushed Raw Copper gives an Copper Nugget plus a Clay Ball. Lead, nickel and silver give Immersive Engineering nuggets, while tin gives a Tin Nugget.[4]
- Crushing Tuff drops a Zinc Nugget, an Copper Nugget, Flint, a Gold Nugget and an Iron Nugget. Crushing Veridium gives Crushed Raw Copper and a copper nugget. The pack changed both recipes.[4]
- Crushing diamond, emerald or lapis ore (including the deepslate versions) gives you a Nugget of Experience, the matching stone, and a TFC cut gem such as Cut Diamond.[4]
- The pack also adds EX Machinis compacting recipes that turn Poor Sphalerite, Normal Sphalerite and Rich Sphalerite into Raw Zinc.[4]
TFC-flavoured Create machines
The pack rewrote a lot of Create's crafting recipes to use TFC items. That includes the machines, belts, funnels, tunnels, the Hose Pulley and the Spout. The Create windows were changed too, and each wood type now needs its matching TFC planks. Here are a few examples.[4]

The Precision Mechanism sequenced assembly was also changed by the pack. It uses Immersive Engineering and TFC items along the way.[4]
These changes show up in the quests. The early Create quest asks you to get an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press, and the Mechanical Press uses the TFC-modified recipe above. Two other quests ask for a Water Wheel and a Cogwheel: a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". The press quest is "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_create}" quest.[4][5][6]
Food and Firmalife
Create's food and fluid recipes connect to Firmalife through pack changes. Compacting Create's Chocolate gives you Dark Chocolate. Filling berries with Chocolate makes Chocolate Glazed Berries. Emptying Builder's Tea or a honey container returns a Firmalife Empty Jar.[4]
Create Additions
Create Additions adds electricity to Create. Its recipes in this pack are unchanged mod recipes built around Create parts. They give you the Electric Motor, Alternator, Tesla Coil, Rolling Mill, Accumulator and Portable Energy Interface. There's also a Create mixing recipe for Bioethanol.[4]

Which All the Mods - Gravitas quests use Create?
In this pack, Create shows up in one quest chapter that I could confirm. Its title appears in the quest data only as the untranslated key {gravitas.chapters.1.title}, so I can't give you a proper chapter name. It has three Create quests, and each one is an item-submission task.[3]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" has no title in the data. It asks you to hand in a Cogwheel.[3]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_create}" quest is the early Create quest, going by its key name. It has two tasks: an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press.[3]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" also has no title. It asks you to hand in a Water Wheel.[3]
Between them, the three quests cover the early Create basics: the cogwheel and water wheel for getting rotation going, and the fan and press as your first machines.[3]
Unverified The data I have doesn't show quest dependencies, so I can't say what order these quests unlock in, and I can't see the rewards either. Check the in-game quest book for the exact order and what each quest pays out.
Which Create config options matter?
2 parts
Create has a lot of options, but only a handful are worth a look in everyday play. Here are the ones you're most likely to touch, with the exact values this pack uses. They live in the client file and the common file.[9][10]
World generation
These options live in the common config and control how Create's ores spawn. Frequency is the number of clusters generated per chunk: above 1 spawns multiple clusters, below 1 makes it a chance, and 0 disables it.[10]
- worldgen.v2.disableWorldGen is false in this pack, so Create's worldgen is active. Setting it to true would stop all of it.[10]
- Zinc ore uses a cluster size of 12 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.clusterSize) and a frequency of 8 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.frequency). It generates between height -63 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.minHeight) and 70 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.maxHeight).[10]
- Overworld striated ores use a cluster size of 32 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.clusterSize) and a frequency of 0.0555555559694767 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.frequency). They span height -30 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.minHeight) to 70 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.maxHeight).[10]
- Nether striated ores also use a cluster size of 32 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.clusterSize) and the same frequency of 0.0555555559694767 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.frequency). They span height 40 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.minHeight) to 90 (worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.maxHeight).[10]
Sound, tooltips and overlays
- client.sound.enableAmbientSounds is true, so cogs rumble and machines clatter. The volume cap, client.sound.ambientVolumeCap, is set to 0.10000000149011612 on a 0.0 to 1.0 scale, so that ambient noise stays quiet.[9]
- client.enableTooltips is true, giving you item descriptions on Shift and controls on Ctrl. client.enableOverstressedTooltip is also true, so you get a tooltip when looking at overstressed components.[9]
- The goggle and hover overlay is offset by 20 pixels on X (client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetX) and 0 on Y (client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetY). Custom overlay colors are off (client.goggleOverlay.customColorsOverlay is false). The config description mentions the /create overlay command for adjusting the position.[9]
- client.placementAssist.indicatorType is set to "TEXTURE". The other allowed values are TRIANGLE and NONE.[9]
- client.fanParticleDensity is 0.5 on a 0.0 to 1.0 scale, where higher means more particles. client.filterItemRenderDistance is 10 blocks, which is how far away items in filter slots are still displayed.[9]
- client.trains.mountedZoomMultiplier is 3, which sets how far the camera zooms out while you're seated on a train.[9]
- client.ignoreFabulousWarning is false, so Create will still warn you if you play with Fabulous graphics enabled.[9]
Unverified The provided files show the values this pack uses but not Create's own defaults, so I can't confirm which of these options the pack changed. Compare against a fresh Create install before assuming any value is a pack tweak.
What changed in Create between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods - Gravitas 3.4 ships Create 0.5.1.b, and Create has been in the pack since Gravitas 1.1 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from Create's own changelogs for 0.5.0.h, 0.5.0.i and 0.5.1.b, so you can see what changed in the version you're playing and the ones just before it.[2][11][12][13]
Create 0.5.0.h
- The superheated burn time of blaze cakes changed from 1000 to 3200 ticks. Blaze Burners also now accept fuel from deployers and arms a number of seconds before running out.[13]
- Deployers can no longer consume potions or milk, and will feed players in their target area instead. A #deployable_drink tag was added for consumables that are not considered food.[13]
- The maximum placement length of tracks and turns is now configurable, and there is a new config for the maximum contraption size used for syncing.[13]
- Fixes included Girder Encased Shafts being ignored by the Schematicannon, the Steam Whistle not updating its pitch correctly, signals not updating the track graph when destroyed, and the 'Damaged Item' filter attribute not working correctly.[13]
- Create started using Crowdin for community translations, with Thai, Czech, Hungarian and Norwegian added.[13]
Create 0.5.0.i
- Fixed a crash when loading trains with the most recent Forge versions, and players getting kicked when merging very large track networks.[12]
- Crashes during schematic loading no longer terminate the server.[12]
- Fixed a crash when creating new belts at existing chutes or funnels, and ghost items appearing on non-powered belts when extracted from.[12]
- Added Enchantment Descriptions for "Capacity" and "Potato Recovery".[12]
Create 0.5.1.b (the version in this pack)
- Elevator fixes: contraptions no longer misalign with their contacts after you switch the target floor mid-travel, and there was an attempt to fix lighting issues with elevator contacts.[11]
- Copycat blocks: you can now sneak-pick to get the copycat block itself instead of its applied material. They also no longer keep the NBT contents of their material's item when loaded from a schematic.[11]
- Waterlogged belts and depots now wash contained items when targeted by a fan.[11]
- Deployers no longer fail to activate bearings and other components with value input slots.[11]
- Smart Chutes no longer prevent chests from opening under them, and Mechanical Rollers no longer place blocks into train tracks when paving steep slopes.[11]
- Contraption mounted storage no longer interacts with modded ender chests, because it didn't work correctly.[11]
- Diving gear fixes: the netherite diving suit now protects from fire damage when Quark is installed, the lava diving suit's jump strength in shallow lava was fixed, and the netherite backtank now depletes air in lava even when your head is not fully submerged.[11]
- Fixed a crash when cycling bogey types on a server, and a crash when placing a clipboard into replaceable blocks mid-air.[11]
