What is Create?
2 parts
Create is a mod for building, decoration and aesthetic automation. Instead of clicking through a bunch of menus, you set up contraptions of animated components that work together, and the mod leaves as many design choices to you as possible. If you like tinkering with machines you can actually watch run, this one is for you.[1]
The pack includes Create 0.5.1.b, built for Minecraft 1.18.2. As of 0.5.1 the rendering library Flywheel no longer has to be installed separately.[1][2]
Learning the mod
Create has a visual in-game documentation called Ponder, which walks you through all of its mechanics and gadgets. Open it whenever a machine confuses you. The mod's own page also recommends JEI for seeing every Create recipe, because the vanilla recipe book can't guide you through the experience by itself.[1]
Where it shows up in the pack's quests
The pack's quest book starts you on the basics with two quests in one chapter. One asks you to get a Water Wheel and the other asks for a Cogwheel. Those are the pieces you use to generate and move rotational power.[3]
A later quest, "{gravitas.quest.steel.early_create}" quest, asks for an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press. Its title key is filed under steel and early Create, so it looks like part of the steel progression.[4]
Unverified The sources don't show exactly what the Create quests reward or how they gate other mods, so check the in-game quest book for the full progression.
How do you get started with Create?
4 parts
Create is all about animated machines you build and power yourself, and its in-game Ponder screens walk you through each mechanic. The mod's own page also recommends installing JEI to see every recipe, since the vanilla recipe book won't guide you. This pack changes several Create recipes, so trust the recipe blocks below over any older tutorial you remember.[1][5]
Step 1: Cogwheel
Your first goal is the Cogwheel, which has its own quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.3.title}". The pack changed both of its recipes: the normal crafting one and a deploying one.[3][5]

Recipe id: create:deploying/cogwheel
The deploying version, also changed by the pack.
Step 2: Water Wheel
Next comes the Water Wheel (quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.3.title}"). The pack changed this recipe too, and it is built around the Large Cogwheel.[3][5]

Step 3: Mechanical Press and Encased Fan
After basic power, one quest asks for both the Mechanical Press and the Encased Fan: "{gravitas.quest.steel.early_create}" quest. Both use Igneous Zinc Casing (called Igneous Zinc Casing here) and the Shaft. The pack changed the press recipe, while the fan recipe is the mod's own.[4][5]

Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: create:crafting/kinetics/encased_fan
Create's own advancements describe the press as the machine that makes sheets, and the fan as something you place and power so it can process materials.[6]
Looking ahead: Precision Mechanism
Later you will want the Precision Mechanism. It is made through a sequenced assembly, and the pack changed that recipe as well.[5]

Unverified The recipes for the Shaft, the Large Cogwheel, the Igneous Zinc Alloy and the Igneous Zinc Casing were not in the sources for this section. Check them in JEI before you plan your first build. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Create work?
9 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Create gives you tools and blocks for building, decoration and what it calls aesthetic automation. You won't spend your time inside menus. You build contraptions out of animated components that work together, and you get a lot of freedom in how you arrange them.[1]
Rotation, torque and speed
Create machines run on rotation. You need something that generates torque, then you carry that rotation to your machines. Here are the torque sources the mod's own progression points you to:[8]
- Water Wheel: place one and it generates torque.[8]
- Windmill: assemble a windmill structure to generate torque. Windmills can be built up to a maximum strength.[8]
- Steam Engine: generates torque from a boiler, and the boiler can be pushed up to a maximum power level.[8]
- Hand Crank: turns things by hand, but using it for long enough leaves you fully exhausted.[8]
To move rotation around, you use Shaft blocks. Two Shafts can be connected with a Mechanical Belt. Connecting a Large Cogwheel to a Small Cogwheel changes the speed of your contraption, and a Rotation Speed Controller lets you fine-tune it.[8][9]
Kinetic components can become overstressed. In this pack, client.enableOverstressedTooltip is on, so you get a tooltip when you look at an overstressed component. Wear Engineer's Goggles and look at a Stressometer to get an exact readout of your network.[7][8]
Casings and key materials
Igneous Zinc Alloy is described as Create's most important resource. Apply it to stripped wood to make a basic casing for your machines. Brass Ingots on stripped wood make a casing for more sophisticated machines. Copper Ingots on stripped wood make a waterproof casing.[8][9]
To make Brass Ingots, alloy Copper and Zinc Ingots in a Mechanical Mixer heated by a Blaze Burner. Other progression materials include the Precision Mechanism, polished Rose Quartz and the Sturdy Sheet. You make Sturdy Sheets by refining Powdered Obsidian, and you use them to build casings for railway components.[8]
Those materials start in the ground, and this pack leaves Create's own world generation switched on: worldgen.v2.disableWorldGen is set to false, so the mod's zinc ore and its striated ore clusters still spawn in the Overworld and the Nether. Their cluster sizes, frequencies and height limits each have their own option in that same config file.[10]
Processing machines
- Mechanical Press: makes sheets. Paired with a Basin, it compacts many items into fewer.[8]
- Mechanical Mixer: combines ingredients. Heat it with a Blaze Burner for recipes like brass.[8]
- Millstone: pulverises materials.[8]
- Crushing Wheels: work as a placed and powered pair, and can run at maximum speed.[8]
- Encased Fan: place and power one, then use it to process materials.[8]
- Mechanical Saw: when placed upright, it processes materials.[8]
- Deployer: described as the perfect reflection of yourself, a machine that stands in for you.[8]
- Mechanical Crafters: place and power them for automated crafting. You can slow them down a lot, though the mod jokes that this is procrastinating on proper infrastructure.[8]
Fluids
Copper is your material for fluid handling. The pulling end of a Fluid Pipe or a Mechanical Pump collects water, and pipes can even pull honey out of a Bee Nest or Beehive. A Hose Pulley lowers into a body of fluid to drain it or fill it, and it can pump from a lava pool big enough to count as infinite.[8]
Items that hold fluid are handled by two blocks. An Item Drain empties them, and items can travel across a row of Item Drains. A Spout fills them, and the same Spout can make Chocolate Glazed Berries, a Honeyed Apple and a Sweet Roll. Fluid Tanks tie into steam: you can attach Steam Whistles to a single tank.[8]
Moving items
Funnels extract items from containers or insert items into them, and they can also be mounted on belts. Chutes transport items too. A Weighted Ejector launches things through the air, and it can throw you more than 30 blocks.[8]
The Mechanical Arm picks up items and moves them to programmed targets. It can feed a Blaze Burner, and you can give it 10 or more output locations.[8]
Many blocks have filter slots. A List Filter or Attribute Filter can be cleared by crafting it on its own. In this pack, items in filter slots are displayed up to 10 blocks away, set by client.filterItemRenderDistance.[7][9]
The Clipboard keeps your notes, and it also saves you time setting up filters. Right-click a block to copy some of its settings, such as filters, then left-click another block to apply them. Sneak-click to place the Clipboard on a surface.[8][9]

Contraptions
Super Glue joins blocks into a group so they can move together. You can mount structures on a Clockwork Bearing, build Minecart Contraptions (you can even pick one up), and fit contraptions with drills, saws or harvesters. A Portable Storage Interface moves items into and out of a moving contraption. A Rope Pulley can reach more than 200 blocks deep.[8]
Redstone and remote control
A Linked Controller activates Redstone Link blocks remotely. Display Links show information, for example on a Display Board. The Controller Rail is a one-way powered rail whose speed follows the strength of the redstone signal you give it.[8]
Crafting Shaped

Trains
Trains run on Train Tracks, which a Mechanical Press can produce in bulk. You place Train Signals, assemble a train, and give its driver a Train Schedule. Display Links can forecast a train's arrival on a Display Board, and trains can even travel through Nether portals. A Train Schedule can be cleared by crafting it on its own.[8][9]
While you're seated on a train in this pack, the camera zooms out by a multiplier of 3, set by client.trains.mountedZoomMultiplier. The track graph overlay on F3 is off by default. Turn on client.trains.showTrackGraphOnF3 if you want to see your railway network's nodes and edges.[7]
Diving gear
A Copper Backtank builds up air pressure. Wear it together with a Copper Diving Helmet and you can go diving underwater. Netherite diving gear also exists for trying to swim in lava.[8][9]

How do you progress through Create?
3 parts
Create in this pack opens with a short quest line, and several of the recipes behind it are different from the mod's defaults. Here is what the pack's quests ask for and how each recipe is crafted here.[3][4][5]
Tier 1: Cogwheels and Water Wheels
The first Create chapter has two quests. One asks you to obtain a Water Wheel, and the other asks for a Cogwheel. These are your first steps into kinetic power: a cogwheel moves rotation along, and a water wheel generates it.[3]
The pack changed the Cogwheel recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. The recipe below is the one that counts in this pack.[5]
The pack also changed the Cogwheel recipe for the deploying machine, so deployer automation follows the pack's version too.[5]
The Water Wheel recipe is another pack change, and it builds on the Large Cogwheel.[5]

Tier 2: Early Create Machines
The next quest, "{gravitas.quest.steel.early_create}" quest, is the early-Create step. It asks you to get an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press. Both need Igneous Zinc Casing, which this pack calls Igneous Zinc Casing, plus a Shaft.[4][5]
The Encased Fan recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[5]

Recipe id: create:crafting/kinetics/encased_fan
The Mechanical Press is different. The pack changed its recipe, so check the version below before you gather materials.[5]

Looking Ahead: Precision Mechanisms
The pack also changed the sequenced assembly recipe for the Precision Mechanism. It runs through the Incomplete Precision Mechanism, so use the pack's recipe rather than guides written for the mod's defaults.[5]

Unverified The sources show no quests beyond the early-Create step, so I can't confirm what comes after it, such as brass-tier progression, or whether Create belongs on the main progression path.
How does Create work with other mods?
5 parts
Create is the backbone of the pack's automation, and the pack ties it into several other mods. Most of it comes from in-pack recipes: TFC metals and wood, Immersive Engineering and Thermal materials, Firmalife food, plus add-ons like Create Additions and Create Teleporters. Here's how it all connects.[5]
Ores and metals
Create's crushed ores don't give you vanilla ingots here. Many of the smelting and blasting recipes were changed by the pack so they output TFC ingots instead. Aluminium and uranium are the exception: those are untouched mod recipes that give you Immersive Engineering ingots.[5]
- Smelting or blasting Crushed Raw Copper, Crushed Raw Gold, Crushed Raw Zinc, Crushed Raw Tin, Crushed Raw Nickel and Crushed Raw Silver gives you the matching TFC ingot, such as Copper Ingot or Zinc Ingot. These recipes are all pack changes.[5]
- Crushed Raw Iron smelts into a Wrought Iron Ingot, not a vanilla iron ingot.[5]
- Crushed Raw Lead smelts into an Lead Ingot, and Crushed Raw Aluminum and Crushed Raw Uranium give Aluminium Ingot and Uranium Ingot.[5]
- Washing crushed ores gives nuggets. Crushed Raw Copper gives an Copper Nugget plus a Clay Ball. Lead, nickel and silver give Immersive Engineering nuggets, while tin gives a Tin Nugget.[5]
- Crushing Tuff drops a Zinc Nugget, an Copper Nugget, Flint, a Gold Nugget and an Iron Nugget. Crushing Veridium gives Crushed Raw Copper and a copper nugget. The pack changed both recipes.[5]
- Crushing diamond, emerald or lapis ore (including the deepslate versions) gives you a Nugget of Experience, the matching stone, and a TFC cut gem such as Cut Diamond.[5]
- The pack also adds EX Machinis compacting recipes that turn Poor Sphalerite, Normal Sphalerite and Rich Sphalerite into Raw Zinc.[5]
TFC-flavoured Create machines
The pack rewrote a lot of Create's crafting recipes to use TFC items. That includes the machines, belts, funnels, tunnels, the Hose Pulley and the Spout. The Create windows were changed too, and each wood type now needs its matching TFC planks. Here are a few examples.[5]

The Precision Mechanism sequenced assembly was also changed by the pack. It uses Immersive Engineering and TFC items along the way.[5]
These changes show up in the quests. The early Create quest asks you to get an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press, and the Mechanical Press uses the TFC-modified recipe above. Two other quests ask for a Water Wheel and a Cogwheel: a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.3.title}" and a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.3.title}". The press quest is "{gravitas.quest.steel.early_create}" quest.[3][4][5]
Food and Firmalife
Create's food and fluid recipes connect to Firmalife through pack changes. Compacting Create's Chocolate gives you Dark Chocolate. Filling berries with Chocolate makes Chocolate Glazed Berries. Emptying Builder's Tea or a honey container returns a Firmalife Empty Jar.[5]
Create Additions
Create Additions adds electricity to Create. Its recipes in this pack are unchanged mod recipes built around Create parts. They give you the Electric Motor, Alternator, Tesla Coil, Rolling Mill, Accumulator and Portable Energy Interface. There's also a Create mixing recipe for Bioethanol.[5]

Which All the Mods - Gravitas quests use Create?
2 parts
In this pack, Create appears in a few quests spread across separate chapters. The chapter titles only exist as untranslated placeholder keys in the pack files, so I can't give you their display names. I'll point to them by the order the files list them.[3][4]
The chapter with the water wheel and cogwheel quests
This chapter's Create quests are simple item tasks. The quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.3.title}" asks you to obtain a Water Wheel. The quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.3.title}" asks you to obtain a Cogwheel. Neither quest has a title in the pack files.[3]
The chapter with the early Create quest
This chapter has the Create quest "{gravitas.quest.steel.early_create}" quest. Its tasks ask you to obtain an Encased Fan and a Mechanical Press.[4]
Unverified The files I have don't show which quests depend on which, or what rewards they give, so the order you're meant to complete them in isn't confirmed.
Which Create config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Create splits its settings across a few files, and this section covers the ones you're most likely to care about: where the ores spawn and how the mod looks, sounds and performs on your screen. Every value below is exactly what this pack ships with.[7][10]
Unverified The sources available here only show the pack's own config values, not Create's defaults. So this section can't tell you which options the pack actually changed from the mod default.
Ore generation
Create's world generation is switched on in this pack, since worldgen.v2.disableWorldGen is set to false. If it were true, none of Create's worldgen would appear.[10]
- Zinc ore: worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.frequency is 8 clusters per chunk and worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.clusterSize is 12. It spawns between Y -63 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.minHeight) and Y 70 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.maxHeight).[10]
- Overworld striated ores: worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.clusterSize is 32, and they generate between Y -30 and Y 70. Their worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.frequency is below 1, which means a cluster is a chance per chunk rather than a guarantee.[10]
- Nether striated ores: worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.clusterSize is also 32, and they generate between Y 40 and Y 90. Like the Overworld version, their worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.frequency is below 1, so each chunk only has a chance of getting a cluster.[10]
Tooltips and debugging
client.enableTooltips is on, so you can hold Shift for item descriptions and Ctrl for controls. client.enableOverstressedTooltip is also on, which shows a tooltip when you look at overstressed components. That's super handy when a network suddenly stops.[7]
client.enableRainbowDebug is enabled too, so kinetic debug info appears on blocks while the F3 menu is open. The train track graph displays (client.trains.showTrackGraphOnF3 and client.trains.showExtendedTrackGraphOnF3) are both off.[7]
Performance and visuals
- client.maximumContraptionLightVolume is 16,384 blocks. This is the size limit for calculating dynamic lighting on moving contraptions. Lower it if big contraptions cause lag.[7]
- client.fanParticleDensity is 0.5 on a scale from 0.0 to 1.0. Lower values mean fewer fan particles.[7]
- client.filterItemRenderDistance is 10 blocks. Beyond that distance, items in filter slots aren't displayed.[7]
- client.sound.enableAmbientSounds is on, so cogs rumble and machines clatter. How loud they can get is capped by client.sound.ambientVolumeCap.[7]
- client.trains.mountedZoomMultiplier is 3. It controls how far the camera zooms out while you're seated on a train.[7]
Quality of life
The goggle and hover overlay is offset by 20 pixels on the X axis (client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetX) and 0 pixels on the Y axis (client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetY). You can reposition it with /create overlay. Custom overlay colours are available through client.goggleOverlay.customColorsOverlay, which is currently off.[7]
The Create config button shows up on row 3 of the in-game menu (client.ingameMenuConfigButtonRow) and row 2 of the main menu (client.mainMenuConfigButtonRow). Setting either row option to 0 removes that button entirely.[7]
What changed in Create between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods - Gravitas 3.6b ships Create 0.5.1.b, and Create has been in the pack since Gravitas 1.1 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from Create's own changelogs for the most recent releases, newest first.[2][11][12][13]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Create were available, so changes the pack itself made to this mod are not covered here.
Create 0.5.1b (the version in the pack)
This one is mostly a big bug-fix pass, but a few changes affect how things behave day to day.[11]
- Elevators: contraptions no longer drift out of alignment with their contacts when you switch the target floor mid-travel, and there was an attempt to fix lighting issues with elevator contacts.[11]
- Copycat blocks: sneak-pick now gives you the copycat block itself instead of the applied material. They also can't take on invalid materials through data commands, and no longer keep the NBT contents of the material's item when loaded from a schematic.[11]
- Deployers no longer fail to activate bearings and other components that have value input slots.[11]
- Waterlogged belts and depots now wash the items on them when a fan targets them.[11]
- Smart Chutes no longer stop chests from opening underneath them.[11]
- Contraption mounted storage no longer interacts with modded ender chests, because it didn't work correctly.[11]
- Mechanical Rollers no longer place blocks into train tracks when paving steep slopes.[11]
- Diving gear: the netherite diving suit now protects from fire damage when Quark is installed, the lava diving suit's jump strength in shallow lava was fixed, and the netherite backtank now uses up air in lava even when your head isn't fully submerged.[11]
- Crash fixes for placing a clipboard into replaceable blocks mid-air and for cycling bogey types on a server.[11]
- The Schematic and Quill confirmation message no longer shows the full directory path.[11]
Create 0.5i
- Fixed a crash when loading trains with the most recent Forge versions, and fixed players getting kicked when merging very large track networks.[12]
- Crashes during schematic loading no longer terminate the server.[12]
- Fixed a crash when creating new belts at existing chutes or funnels, and fixed ghost items appearing on non-powered belts when extracted from.[12]
- Added enchantment descriptions for Capacity and Potato Recovery.[12]
Create 0.5h
This release changed a few mechanics you may notice in your factories.[13]
- The superheated burn time of blaze cakes changed from 1000 to 3200 ticks. This is Create's own change in this release.[13]
- Blaze Burners now accept fuel from deployers, and how and when they accept fuel was adjusted.[13]
- Deployers can no longer consume potions or milk and will feed players in their target area instead. A #deployable_drink tag was added for consumables that aren't considered food.[13]
- The maximum placement length of tracks and turns is now configurable.[13]
- Added a config for the max contraption size for syncing, and the minecart pickup maximum is increased if XL Packets is loaded.[13]
- Fixes included the Steam Whistle not updating its pitch correctly, vaults not marking chunks dirty when their inventory changes, and signals not updating the track graph when destroyed.[13]
- Community translations moved to Crowdin, with Thai, Czech, Hungarian and Norwegian localisations added.[13]
