What is Create?
1 part
Create is all about building, decoration and what its creators call aesthetic automation. You don't spend your time inside machine menus. Instead, you set up contraptions of animated components that work together, and you decide how they're arranged.[1]
This pack runs Create 0.5.1.e, so everything in this guide covers that version.[2]
Create is for you if you like seeing your machines actually move, or if you want your automation to look good in your base. You get plenty of freedom in how you lay things out, and the built-in visual documentation, called Ponder, walks you through every mechanic and gadget the mod adds.[1]
Where it fits in this pack
Your first Create steps come through the questbook. Everything starts with "Let's get CREATEive" quest, which asks you to make Igneous Zinc Alloy. From there the quests branch out into the basic building blocks of kinetic machines.[3]
- After the alloy quest, make a Shaft in a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze" and Igneous Zinc Casing in a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze".[3]
- Once you have the shaft, move on to a Cogwheel in a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze".[3]
- The cogwheel unlocks the Water Wheel quest, a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze", and together with the casing it leads to the Millstone quest, a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze".[3]
Create shows up again in a later quest chapter, where it becomes a real automation tool. "Automating Create Machinery" quest has you make a Mechanical Belt and an Igneous Zinc Funnel, and "A better funnel" quest follows it with a Brass Funnel. That chapter also has quests for the Mechanical Press and Depot, the Mechanical Saw and the Encased Fan.[4]
How do you get started with Create?
5 parts
Create in this pack is tied into the questbook, and the quests give you a clear starting order. Everything opens up from one quest, "Let's get CREATEive" quest, which asks for Igneous Zinc Alloy. From there the quests branch into shafts, casings, cogwheels and your first real machines.[3]
Step 1: Igneous Zinc Alloy
Create's own advancement text calls this alloy the mod's most important resource. In this pack it's named Igneous Zinc Alloy, so don't go hunting for Andesite Alloy in your recipe viewer. The quest for it also asks for a zinc ingot, so have one ready.[3][5][6]

Step 2: Shafts and casing
Once the alloy quest is done, two quests unlock: one for a Shaft and one for Igneous Zinc Casing. Shafts carry rotation between your machines. The casing is the basic shell that many early machines are built from. This pack changed how you apply alloy to make casing, so check the recipe below instead of relying on older Create tutorials.[3][5][6]

Step 3: Cogwheels
The Cogwheel quest comes after the shaft quest. This pack changed the cogwheel recipe, so use the in-pack version shown here.[3][5]
Step 4: Power and your first machine
Cogwheels unlock the Water Wheel quest. The pack changed the water wheel recipe, and it needs a Large Cogwheel.[3][5]

What comes next
A later set of quests builds on these basics with processing and logistics machines. Here's what they ask for:[4]
- a quest in "Blast Furnace (To make a different Anvil)" asks for a Mechanical Press and a Depot. The pack changed the press recipe.[4][5]
- "Automating Create Machinery" quest asks for a Mechanical Belt and an Igneous Zinc Funnel. The pack changed the recipes for both.[4][5]
- "A better funnel" quest follows that quest and asks for a Brass Funnel, which also has a pack-changed recipe.[4][5]
- Separate quests ask for an Encased Fan, which can process materials, and a Mechanical Saw.[4][6]

How does Create work?
9 parts
Create gives you tools and blocks for building, decoration and what it calls aesthetic automation. You won't spend your time inside menus. You build contraptions out of animated components that work together, and you get a lot of freedom in how you arrange them.[1]
Rotation, torque and speed
Create machines run on rotation. You need something that generates torque, then you carry that rotation to your machines. Here are the torque sources the mod's own progression points you to:[6]
- Water Wheel: place one and it generates torque.[6]
- Windmill: assemble a windmill structure to generate torque. Windmills can be built up to a maximum strength.[6]
- Steam Engine: generates torque from a boiler, and the boiler can be pushed up to a maximum power level.[6]
- Hand Crank: turns things by hand, but using it for long enough leaves you fully exhausted.[6]
To move rotation around, you use Shaft blocks. Two Shafts can be connected with a Mechanical Belt. Connecting a Large Cogwheel to a Small Cogwheel changes the speed of your contraption, and a Rotation Speed Controller lets you fine-tune it.[5][6]
Kinetic components can become overstressed. In this pack, client.enableOverstressedTooltip is on, so you get a tooltip when you look at an overstressed component. Wear Engineer's Goggles and look at a Stressometer to get an exact readout of your network.[6][7]
Casings and key materials
Igneous Zinc Alloy is described as Create's most important resource. Apply it to stripped wood to make a basic casing for your machines. Brass Ingots on stripped wood make a casing for more sophisticated machines. Copper Ingots on stripped wood make a waterproof casing.[5][6]
To make Brass Ingots, alloy Copper and Zinc Ingots in a Mechanical Mixer heated by a Blaze Burner. Other progression materials include the Precision Mechanism, polished Rose Quartz and the Sturdy Sheet. You make Sturdy Sheets by refining Powdered Obsidian, and you use them to build casings for railway components.[6]
Those materials start in the ground, and this pack leaves Create's own world generation switched on: worldgen.v2.disableWorldGen is set to false, so the mod's zinc ore and its striated ore clusters still spawn in the Overworld and the Nether. Their cluster sizes, frequencies and height limits each have their own option in that same config file.[8]
Processing machines
- Mechanical Press: makes sheets. Paired with a Basin, it compacts many items into fewer.[6]
- Mechanical Mixer: combines ingredients. Heat it with a Blaze Burner for recipes like brass.[6]
- Millstone: pulverises materials.[6]
- Crushing Wheels: work as a placed and powered pair, and can run at maximum speed.[6]
- Encased Fan: place and power one, then use it to process materials.[6]
- Mechanical Saw: when placed upright, it processes materials.[6]
- Deployer: described as the perfect reflection of yourself, a machine that stands in for you.[6]
- Mechanical Crafters: place and power them for automated crafting. You can slow them down a lot, though the mod jokes that this is procrastinating on proper infrastructure.[6]
Fluids
Copper is your material for fluid handling. The pulling end of a Fluid Pipe or a Mechanical Pump collects water, and pipes can even pull honey out of a Bee Nest or Beehive. A Hose Pulley lowers into a body of fluid to drain it or fill it, and it can pump from a lava pool big enough to count as infinite.[6]
Items that hold fluid are handled by two blocks. An Item Drain empties them, and items can travel across a row of Item Drains. A Spout fills them, and the same Spout can make Chocolate Glazed Berries, a Honeyed Apple and a Sweet Roll. Fluid Tanks tie into steam: you can attach Steam Whistles to a single tank.[6]
Moving items
Funnels extract items from containers or insert items into them, and they can also be mounted on belts. Chutes transport items too. A Weighted Ejector launches things through the air, and it can throw you more than 30 blocks.[6]
The Mechanical Arm picks up items and moves them to programmed targets. It can feed a Blaze Burner, and you can give it 10 or more output locations.[6]
Many blocks have filter slots. A List Filter or Attribute Filter can be cleared by crafting it on its own. In this pack, items in filter slots are displayed up to 10 blocks away, set by client.filterItemRenderDistance.[5][7]
The Clipboard keeps your notes, and it also saves you time setting up filters. Right-click a block to copy some of its settings, such as filters, then left-click another block to apply them. Sneak-click to place the Clipboard on a surface.[5][6]

Contraptions
Super Glue joins blocks into a group so they can move together. You can mount structures on a Clockwork Bearing, build Minecart Contraptions (you can even pick one up), and fit contraptions with drills, saws or harvesters. A Portable Storage Interface moves items into and out of a moving contraption. A Rope Pulley can reach more than 200 blocks deep.[6]
Redstone and remote control
A Linked Controller activates Redstone Link blocks remotely. Display Links show information, for example on a Display Board. The Controller Rail is a one-way powered rail whose speed follows the strength of the redstone signal you give it.[6]

Trains
Trains run on Train Tracks, which a Mechanical Press can produce in bulk. You place Train Signals, assemble a train, and give its driver a Train Schedule. Display Links can forecast a train's arrival on a Display Board, and trains can even travel through Nether portals. A Train Schedule can be cleared by crafting it on its own.[5][6]
While you're seated on a train in this pack, the camera zooms out by a multiplier of 3, set by client.trains.mountedZoomMultiplier. The track graph overlay on F3 is off by default. Turn on client.trains.showTrackGraphOnF3 if you want to see your railway network's nodes and edges.[7]
Diving gear
A Copper Backtank builds up air pressure. Wear it together with a Copper Diving Helmet and you can go diving underwater. Netherite diving gear also exists for trying to swim in lava.[5][6]

How do you progress through Create?
5 parts
Create's quest line in this pack is split across two chapters. The earlier one takes you from your first Igneous Zinc Alloy to basic rotational parts, a Millstone and a Water Wheel. The later one moves on to automation with belts, funnels and processing machines like the Mechanical Press and Mechanical Saw.[3][4]
Tier 1: Igneous Zinc Alloy
Everything starts with Igneous Zinc Alloy, which is what this pack calls Create's andesite alloy. The first quest, "Let's get CREATEive" quest, asks for a zinc ingot along with the alloy itself, so get your zinc sorted before you dive in.[3][5]
You can craft the alloy by hand in two ways, one with zinc nuggets and one with iron nuggets. Both use Create's default recipes. Mixing versions of both recipes are also in the pack for when you want to automate it later.[5]

Tier 2: Shafts, casings and cogwheels
Once the alloy quest is done, two quests open up at the same time: one for the Shaft and one for Igneous Zinc Casing. Finishing the shaft quest then unlocks the Cogwheel quest.[3]
- Craft a Shaft from the alloy. This is Create's normal recipe, and there's also a cutting recipe that turns alloy into shafts.[5]
- Make Igneous Zinc Casing by applying the alloy to logs. The pack changed this item application recipe to accept the pack's log pile logs.[5]
- Craft a Cogwheel. The pack changed both the crafting recipe and the deploying recipe for it.[5]

How does Create work with other mods?
5 parts
Create is tightly woven into the rest of this pack. Most of the connections come from the pack's own recipe changes, so the machines, ore processing and even some snacks lead into and out of other mods' items. Here's how it all fits together.[5]
Ore processing feeds other mods' metals
The pack changed most of Create's smelting and blasting recipes for crushed ores. Instead of vanilla ingots, they give you the pack's own metals. For example, Crushed Raw Iron smelts into Wrought Iron Ingot, and Crushed Raw Zinc gives Zinc Ingot. Copper, gold, tin, nickel and silver follow the same pattern.[5]
Some metals come out as Immersive Engineering items instead. Crushed Raw Lead smelts into Lead Ingot, and Crushed Raw Aluminum and Crushed Raw Uranium give Aluminium Ingot and Uranium Ingot.[5]
Washing crushed ores also crosses mods. Copper, lead, nickel, silver, aluminum and uranium give Immersive Engineering nuggets such as Copper Nugget. Crushed tin gives Tin Nugget.[5]
The pack also added compacting recipes that turn Poor Sphalerite, Normal Sphalerite and Rich Sphalerite into Raw Zinc, which is handy for your zinc supply.[5]
Crushing vanilla diamond, emerald and lapis ores gives you cut gems like Cut Diamond instead of the vanilla gems. Crushing Veridium or tuff also returns Copper Nugget.[5]
Machines built from other mods' parts
Several core Create machines were reworked around items from other mods. The Millstone is built from a Quern, and the Mechanical Press needs a Wrought Iron Anvil. So you'll want some progress in those other systems before these machines are within reach.[5]

Even the windows use the pack's own planks. Watch out for two of them: the Dark Oak Window takes Hickory Planks, and the Jungle Window takes Palm Planks.[5]
Food and drink
Create's kitchen side ties into Firmalife. Compacting Chocolate gives Dark Chocolate, and Chocolate Glazed Berries are filled using Chocolate. Emptying Builder's Tea or honey gives you back a Empty Jar.[5]
Add-ons built on Create parts
Create's components are the backbone of its add-ons. The electrical machines, like the Alternator, Electric Motor and Tesla Coil, are made in the Mechanical Crafter from Igneous Zinc Alloy and other Create parts.[5]
The teleporter add-on leans on Brass Casing as well. The pack changed a few of its recipes: the Advanced Component is a sequenced assembly using Sturdy Sheet, and the Quantum Casing is made by applying Telejuice to Brass Casing.[5]
Item Application (create)
Recipe id: createteleporters:quantum_casing_recipe
Quests that bridge the mods
The questline introduces Create through other mods' materials. "Let's get CREATEive" quest asks for a Zinc Ingot alongside Igneous Zinc Alloy. It then branches into quests for the shaft, casing and cogwheel, leading up to the Millstone and Water Wheel.[3]
Later, "Automating Create Machinery" quest asks for a wrought iron rod together with a Mechanical Belt and an Igneous Zinc Funnel. a quest in "Blast Furnace (To make a different Anvil)" pairs the Mechanical Saw with sawdust.[4]
Which All the Mods - Gravitas quests use Create?
2 parts
Create shows up in two quest chapters in this pack. One walks you through your very first Create parts, from alloy to a working water wheel and millstone. The other moves on to presses, belts, funnels, saws and fans for automation. Here's what each quest asks for and how they unlock.[3][4]
Your first Create parts
This chapter is a neat little chain that starts from a single alloy quest and branches out, so you can follow it almost step by step.[3]
- "Let's get CREATEive" quest kicks everything off. It asks for Igneous Zinc Alloy, along with a couple of items that aren't from Create.[3]
- Finishing it opens two quests at once. a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze" wants a Shaft, and a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze" wants Igneous Zinc Casing.[3]
- After the shaft quest comes a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze", which asks for a Cogwheel.[3]
- The cogwheel quest unlocks a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze", where you make a Water Wheel to get some rotational power going.[3]
- a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze" asks for a Millstone. It needs the cogwheel quest, the casing quest and one more prerequisite quest from outside this mod's line before it opens.[3]
Automating with Create
The second chapter is less of a straight line. Most of its Create quests depend on other quests in that chapter, so they open up as you progress through it rather than one after another.[4]
- a quest in "Blast Furnace (To make a different Anvil)" asks for a Mechanical Press and a Depot.[4]
- "Automating Create Machinery" quest wants a Mechanical Belt and an Igneous Zinc Funnel, plus one item from another mod. It needs two earlier quests in the chapter to be completed first.[4]
- "A better funnel" quest follows straight on from the automation quest. It asks for a Brass Funnel along with a tag-based item task.[4]
- a quest in "Blast Furnace (To make a different Anvil)" asks for a Mechanical Saw plus an item from another mod. It unlocks after a quest elsewhere in the chapter.[4]
- a quest in "Blast Furnace (To make a different Anvil)" wants an Encased Fan and also unlocks after a quest elsewhere in the chapter.[4]
Unverified The order the two chapters appear in the quest book, and what the non-Create prerequisite quests ask for, isn't confirmed here.
Which Create config options matter?
4 parts
Create splits its settings across a few files, and this section covers the ones you're most likely to care about: where the ores spawn and how the mod looks, sounds and performs on your screen. Every value below is exactly what this pack ships with.[7][8]
Unverified The sources available here only show the pack's own config values, not Create's defaults. So this section can't tell you which options the pack actually changed from the mod default.
Ore generation
Create's world generation is switched on in this pack, since worldgen.v2.disableWorldGen is set to false. If it were true, none of Create's worldgen would appear.[8]
- Zinc ore: worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.frequency is 8 clusters per chunk and worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.clusterSize is 12. It spawns between Y -63 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.minHeight) and Y 70 (worldgen.v2.zinc_ore.maxHeight).[8]
- Overworld striated ores: worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.clusterSize is 32, and they generate between Y -30 and Y 70. Their worldgen.v2.striated_ores_overworld.frequency is below 1, which means a cluster is a chance per chunk rather than a guarantee.[8]
- Nether striated ores: worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.clusterSize is also 32, and they generate between Y 40 and Y 90. Like the Overworld version, their worldgen.v2.striated_ores_nether.frequency is below 1, so each chunk only has a chance of getting a cluster.[8]
Tooltips and debugging
client.enableTooltips is on, so you can hold Shift for item descriptions and Ctrl for controls. client.enableOverstressedTooltip is also on, which shows a tooltip when you look at overstressed components. That's super handy when a network suddenly stops.[7]
client.enableRainbowDebug is enabled too, so kinetic debug info appears on blocks while the F3 menu is open. The train track graph displays (client.trains.showTrackGraphOnF3 and client.trains.showExtendedTrackGraphOnF3) are both off.[7]
Performance and visuals
- client.maximumContraptionLightVolume is 16,384 blocks. This is the size limit for calculating dynamic lighting on moving contraptions. Lower it if big contraptions cause lag.[7]
- client.fanParticleDensity is 0.5 on a scale from 0.0 to 1.0. Lower values mean fewer fan particles.[7]
- client.filterItemRenderDistance is 10 blocks. Beyond that distance, items in filter slots aren't displayed.[7]
- client.sound.enableAmbientSounds is on, so cogs rumble and machines clatter. How loud they can get is capped by client.sound.ambientVolumeCap.[7]
- client.trains.mountedZoomMultiplier is 3. It controls how far the camera zooms out while you're seated on a train.[7]
Quality of life
The goggle and hover overlay is offset by 20 pixels on the X axis (client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetX) and 0 pixels on the Y axis (client.goggleOverlay.overlayOffsetY). You can reposition it with /create overlay. Custom overlay colours are available through client.goggleOverlay.customColorsOverlay, which is currently off.[7]
The Create config button shows up on row 3 of the in-game menu (client.ingameMenuConfigButtonRow) and row 2 of the main menu (client.mainMenuConfigButtonRow). Setting either row option to 0 removes that button entirely.[7]
What changed in Create between versions?
All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 ships Create version 0.5.1.e, using the file create-1.18.2-0.5.1.e.jar. The pack's mod list records it as first included in Gravitas 4.0 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack since at least this release.[2]
Unverified No pack changelog entries mention Create, and no changelogs are available for the shipped Create jar. Any version bumps, config tweaks or recipe changes to Create across the pack's releases can't be confirmed yet.
