What is Enchantment Descriptions?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Enchantment Descriptions is a lightweight, client-side mod that adds a short description of each enchantment to the tooltip of an enchanted book. Hover over a book and you can see what the enchantment does without looking it up.[1]

It supports all the vanilla enchantments in over 13 languages, and most modded enchantments are supported too.[1]

It's for anyone who wants to know what a book does before using it or spending resources on it. It's a quality-of-life tool, so there's nothing to craft and nothing to unlock.[1]

In this pack

This pack version ships Enchantment Descriptions 21.1.11, using the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It was first included in an earlier pack release, 2.25 or before.[2]

How do you get started with Enchantment Descriptions?

2 parts

Good news: there's nothing to craft for this one. Enchantment Descriptions is a lightweight client-side mod that adds a description of each enchantment to the tooltip of enchanted books. It's about reading, not building.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Get hold of an enchanted book. The mod adds its descriptions to enchanted book tooltips.[1]
  2. Hover over the book in your inventory. The tooltip shows the prompt to hold shift to view enchantment descriptions.[3]
  3. Hold shift while hovering. The description of each enchantment on the book appears in the tooltip.[1][3]

What you'll see

The descriptions are short and plain. For example, Mending is described as repairing the durability of armor and tools with XP. Silk Touch is described as allowing fragile blocks such as glass to be collected.[3]

The mod supports all vanilla enchantments, and most modded enchantments are covered too. The description list includes entries for enchantments from other mods. One example is a fishing enchantment whose description says that reeling in certain fish will cook them. Another is Fleet Foot, which gives you a speed boost when your health is low.[1][3]

Tip: Check a book's description before you spend it on gear. Some modded enchantments are curses: one of them sometimes gives you a slowness debuff, and another sometimes gives you the levitation debuff.[3]

Unverified We could not confirm any recipes or quests in this pack that involve this mod, so there is no crafting order to follow here.

How does Enchantment Descriptions work?

2 parts

Good news: there's very little to set up here. Enchantment Descriptions is a lightweight client-side mod that adds descriptions of enchantments to the tooltip of enchanted books. It has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation, so there's nothing to wire up or feed.[1]

What it does

The mod covers all vanilla enchantments in over 13 languages, and most modded enchantments are supported too. In the English text this pack ships, you'll find descriptions for vanilla enchantments like Mending, Fortune and Silk Touch, plus some from other mods, such as Fleet Foot, Fulmination and Deepfry. For example, the Mending text reads: Repairs the durability of armor and tools with XP.[1][3]

There's also a hint line in the mod's text that says: Hold shift to view enchantment descriptions.[3]

Config in this pack

The mod's whole behavior is controlled by a handful of options in the config file. Here is what the pack sets:[4]

Unverified The sources only list these options and their values. They don't explain exactly what each one changes in the tooltip, and they don't confirm whether the shift hint above still appears with requireKeybindPress set to false. Check in game if it matters to you.

Which Enchantment Descriptions config options matter?

1 part

Enchantment Descriptions is a lightweight client-side mod that adds enchantment descriptions to the tooltip of enchanted books. Its config file is tiny, and the pack sets every option in it as listed below.[1][4]

How the pack sets them

The sources here don't show the mod's own default values, so I can't tell you whether the pack changed any of these.[4]

What changed in Enchantment Descriptions between versions?

Enchantment Descriptions has been in the pack since All the Mods - Gravitas 1.1 or earlier. Gravitas 4.0 ships version 10.0.12 of the mod.[5]

The one change I can confirm from the mod's own changelog is in 10.0.12, the version you get in this pack. It fixes the "Hold Shift" text showing up on items that aren't enchanted, so you only see that prompt where it's useful.[5][6]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as enchdesc, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
