What is The Twilight Forest?
1 part
The Twilight Forest is in this pack as version 4.7.3196, the 1.21.1 build. It's been part of All the Mods 10 since 2.25 or earlier, so it's a long-standing piece of the pack rather than a recent addition.[1]
Your best guide to the mod is its own quest chapter. It's built around a chain of trophies, and each one unlocks the next set of gear. From the start you can go after things like the Steeleaf Chestplate and Ironwood Chestplate sets, the Ice Sword, the Ender Bow, the Ore Magnet and the Charm of Life I.[2]
The trophy chain
- Grab the Naga Trophy in a quest in "?". That opens the Naga armor quest and leads to the next trophy.[2]
- Next comes the Twilight Lich Trophy in a quest in "?", which unlocks the four scepters and the maze quest a quest in "?".[2]
- The maze quest leads to the Minoshroom Trophy in a quest in "?". It also unlocks the Mazebreaker and the Charm of Keeping line.[2]
- The Hydra Trophy in a quest in "?" opens up the Fiery tools and armor.[2]
- The Knight Phantom Trophy in a quest in "?" unlocks the Knightmetal and Phantom gear.[2]
- The Ur-Ghast Trophy in a quest in "?" leads on to the Alpha Yeti Trophy in a quest in "?" and the Carminite machines.[2]
The mod also shows up outside its own chapter. The basic armor chapter asks for an Ironwood Ingot, so Twilight materials are part of your early gear options too.[3]
Unverified The quest data available for this guide doesn't show The Twilight Forest on the ATM Star quest path, so treat it as an optional side adventure rather than a Star requirement.
How do you get started with The Twilight Forest?
3 parts
Welcome to the Twilight Forest! In All the Mods 10, this mod has its own quest chapter. Most of its quests unlock from the same starting point, so you can pick up easy wins like food and armor while you work toward the bosses. The bosses form the real backbone of the chapter: each boss trophy quest unlocks the next part of the chain.[2]
Your very first goal is simply to get there. The mod's root advancement asks you to enter the mysterious, magical woodlands of the Twilight Forest.[4]
Unverified The sources for this pack don't show how the Twilight Forest portal is built, so check in-game with JEI or the quest book before you gather materials. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Step 1: Get some food going
One of the mod's early advancements is to hunt some of the local wildlife. The food quest a quest in "?" starts with Raw Venison and Venison Steak, then moves on to a whole menu of Twilight dishes. You can cook the venison in a furnace or on a campfire, so you don't need a full kitchen set up in the new dimension.[2][4][5]
Furnace version
Campfire version
Step 2: Ironwood and Steeleaf armor
Next, gear up. The basic armor chapter has quests for Ironwood Ingot and Steeleaf, plus full four-piece sets of each. The Twilight Forest chapter has matching set quests, a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". Neither set quest sits behind a boss trophy, so these are your natural first armor upgrades before you start boss hunting.[2][3]

This pack also gives you some extra routes to these materials. Essence recipes turn essence into Ironwood Ingots and Steeleaf. There's also a recipe that makes Steeleaf from a Generalized Twilight Prediction and leaves, which is handy later if you'd rather automate than farm by hand.[5]

Step 3: Take on the Naga
Once you're geared, head for your first boss. The mod tells you to slay the Naga in its forest courtyard. Its drop lets you overcome the barrier magic around the Lich's tower, which makes it the key to the rest of the progression. Grabbing the Naga Trophy completes a quest in "?", and that quest unlocks both the Lich quest and the Naga armor quest.[2][4]
Hang on to your Naga Scale drops. They have their own quest, and the mod's advancement asks you to craft both the Naga chest and leg armor.[2][3][4][5]

After that, your target is the Lich at the top of his tower. Slaying him gets you a scepter to clear the poisonous mosquitoes from the Swamp, see through the Dark Forest's curse of blinding darkness, and resist the Snowy Forest's chill. The Lich Trophy quest a quest in "?" then opens up the scepter quests and the Maze Map quest, which lead you onward into the rest of the Twilight Forest.[2][4]
How does The Twilight Forest work?
8 parts
The Twilight Forest is an adventure mod. Its core systems are the portal, the magic tree cores, boss fights, shield parrying, the Uncrafting Table and a few tower devices. This section walks you through how each one is set up in this pack, so you know exactly what to expect before you jump in.[5][6]
Unverified Whether The Twilight Forest has its own power, fluid or item-transport systems could not be confirmed, so none are described here.
Portals and the dimension
In this pack, new portals are checked for safety before they form. This is controlled by [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.checkPortalPlacement]]. With the check on, an unsafe portal is redirected to a safe alternate destination. With it off, the portal would simply fail to form.[6]
Your home side is the Overworld, set by [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.originDimension]]. That's the dimension you can always travel to the Twilight Forest from, and the one you come back to. Building portals in other dimensions is turned off in this pack through [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.allowPortalsInOtherDimensions]].[6]
When a portal forms, the mod checks up to 64 water spaces, set by [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.maxPortalSize]]. Lightning also zaps the portal, and in this pack that lightning can set things on fire because [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.destructivePortalLightning]] is on. Keep flammable builds away from your portal spot![6]
- The portal isn't locked behind any advancement, because [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.portalUnlockedByAdvancement]] is left empty.[6]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.portalCreationPermission]] is set to 0, so every player can create portals.[6]
- The return portal works without the activation item, because [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.shouldReturnPortalBeUsable]] is on.[6]
- New players start in the normal world, not in the Twilight Forest, because [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Dimension Settings.newPlayersSpawnInTF]] is off.[6]
Cloud blocks run weather logic up to 32 blocks below them. This is set by cloudBlockPrecipitationDistance, and 32 is the same as the mod default. Setting it to 0 turns all cloud precipitation logic off, which can help if your tick rate drops.[6]
Magic tree cores
The magic trees each have a core that works within a set radius: the Minewood Core, the Sortingwood Core, the Timewood Core and the Transformation Core. In this pack all of them use a radius of 16, the same as the mod default. The allowed range is 0 to 128, and a value of 0 stops that core from working at all. The options are [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.miningCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.sortingCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.timeCoreRange]] and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.transformationCoreRange]].[6]
Unverified What each magic tree core actually does inside its radius, and how you get or grow the trees, could not be confirmed.
Bosses and death
In this pack, Twilight bosses put their drops in a chest where they originally spawned, instead of dropping loot on the ground. This comes from bossesSpawnDropChests. The Knight Phantoms are the exception, because their drops work differently.[6]
multiplayerFightAdjuster is set to NONE in this pack. That means bosses act the same whether you fight them solo or with a group. Other settings could add extra loot per player, or add 20 hearts of boss health for each nearby player, but neither is active here.[6]
When you die, a Keepsake Casket spawns with your stuff. In this pack those caskets are not locked to you, because casketUUIDLocking is off. That means other players can open them.[6]
Shield parrying
After you raise a shield, you have a 40-tick window to parry a projectile (1 tick is 1/20 of a second). This is set by [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.shieldParryTicksArrow]], and 40 is the mod default. In this pack, parrying only works on Twilight projectiles, because [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.parryNonTwilightAttacks]] is off.[6]
This pack adds its own crafting recipe for the Knightmetal Shield, so check the recipe below instead of relying on older guides.[5]

Unverified Whether the Knightmetal Shield has any special parrying behavior compared to other shields could not be confirmed.
The Uncrafting Table
The Uncrafting Table does more than reverse normal recipes. It also has special recipes that only work through uncrafting, and the mod relies on them. In this pack, [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.blacklistedUncraftingModIds]] is empty, so this option doesn't block uncrafting for any mod's items. There's even an advancement for uncrafting an Uncrafting Table itself.[4][6]
When a recipe uses a tag, the mod has an option that can stop the table from letting you switch between ingredients. Packs can also keep specific ingredients from showing up at all with the twilightforest:banned_uncrafting_ingredients tag.[4]
Unverified This pack's values for the ingredient-switching option and the uncrafting on/off options aren't known, so it can't be confirmed whether ingredient switching works here.
Carminite devices
You can craft the Carminite Builder and the Carminite Reactor. Their progression advancement says that once you settle the restless phantoms in the knight's tomb, the carminite tower's devices will obey you.[4][5]

How does The Twilight Forest work with other mods?
4 parts
The Twilight Forest is mostly its own adventure in this pack, but a few recipes pull its items into other mods. The biggest is an endgame crafting chain that needs a boss trophy. The rest are handy wood-processing and decoration options for all those Twilight logs you'll be chopping.[5]
The Snow Queen Trophy and the Oblivion Shard
The pack adds a shaped recipe for the Oblivion Shard that needs a Snow Queen Trophy. The same recipe also calls for items from several other mods, including the Meat Shredder, the Void Forge, Blood, the Piercing Vengeance Focus and Eternal Stella. That means beating the Snow Queen matters for more than Twilight Forest progress.[5]

Sawing Twilight logs into planks
The pack adds Mekanism sawing recipes for every Twilight wood type: Twilight Oak, Canopy, Darkwood, Mangrove, Timewood, Transwood, Minewood and Sortingwood. Each one turns logs into the matching planks, such as Twilight Oak Planks or Timewood Planks, and also gives you Sawdust.[5]

The pack also adds Productive Trees sawmill recipes for the same Twilight woods, and they involve Sawdust as well. That gives you a second automated way to process a Twilight tree farm into planks like Darkwood Planks or Transwood Planks.[5]

Twilight materials in other quest chapters
Twilight gear also appears outside the mod's own quest chapter. The pack's basic armor chapter has quests for Ironwood Ingot, Steeleaf, Naga Scale and the full Arctic armor set. So a Twilight trip counts toward your general armor progression too.[3]
Unverified The pack's second main-progression chapter may also use Twilight Forest items, but its contents weren't available to confirm this.
Which All the Mods 10 quests use The Twilight Forest?
3 parts
The Twilight Forest shows up in three quest chapters in this pack. Most of it lives in its own chapter, twilight_forest, which follows the boss progression. The basic_armor chapter asks for its materials and armor sets, and one quest in chapter_2_the_star asks for a Snow Queen trophy.[2][3][7]
The twilight_forest chapter: open starter quests
A batch of quests all unlock from the same starting quest, so you can do them in any order while you explore. These are good early goals.[2]
- Gear: the full Steeleaf set in a quest in "?" and the full Ironwood set in a quest in "?".[2]
- Weapons: Glass Sword (a quest in "?"), Ice Sword (a quest in "?"), Ender Bow (a quest in "?") and Ice Bow (a quest in "?").[2]
- Utility items: Transformation Powder (a quest in "?"), Peacock Feather Fan (a quest in "?"), Ore Magnet (a quest in "?") and Moonworm Queen (a quest in "?").[2]
- a quest in "?" wants the Questing Ram Trophy.[2]
- a quest in "?" is a food checklist: venison, Maze Wafer, meef, Meef Stroganoff, Hydra Chop and Experiment 115, plus an advancement.[2]
- Charm of Life I in a quest in "?" leads to Charm of Life II in a quest in "?".[2]
- Raven Feather (a quest in "?") leads to Magic Map Focus (a quest in "?") and then Blank Magic Map (a quest in "?").[2]
The boss chain
The main line is a trophy for each boss, and each trophy quest opens the next boss plus rewards themed around it. Here's the order.[2]
- Beat the Naga for Naga Trophy (a quest in "?"). This also opens the Naga Scale armor quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Take down the Lich for Twilight Lich Trophy (a quest in "?"). You then get one quest for each scepter: a quest in "?", a quest in "?", a quest in "?" and a quest in "?".[2]
- Grab a Blank Maze Map and Raw Meef (a quest in "?"). This branches into the Mazebreaker, the Blank Maze/Ore Map and a Charm of Keeping line that runs from I to III.[2]
- Defeat the Minoshroom and bring its trophy plus Meef Stroganoff (a quest in "?"). This unlocks the Diamond Minotaur Axe quest.[2]
- Slay the Hydra (a quest in "?"). That opens the Fiery sword and pickaxe quest and the full Fiery armor quest.[2]
- Clear the Knight Phantoms (a quest in "?"). You then get quests for Phantom armor, the full Knightmetal armor set, and Knightmetal tools with the Block and Chain and Knightmetal Shield.[2]
- Beat the Ur-Ghast (a quest in "?"). It unlocks quests for the reappearing and vanishing blocks and for the Carminite Builder with the Carminite Reactor.[2]
- Hunt the Alpha Yeti (a quest in "?"). This opens the Arctic and Yeti armor set quests.[2]
- Defeat the Snow Queen (a quest in "?"). You then get the Tri-Bow and Seeker Bow quests, plus Magic Beans with Uberous Soil.[2]
- After the beans, the chain runs through the Giant's Pickaxe, the Lamp of Cinders, the Thorn Rose and the four castle doors (a quest in "?").[2]
- The finale, a quest in "?", asks for all four magic tree saplings: time, sorting, mining and transformation.[2]
Other chapters
The basic_armor chapter asks for Twilight materials: Ironwood Ingot, Steeleaf, Naga Scale, Fiery Ingot, Carminite and Knightmetal Ingot. It also asks for the full Ironwood, Steeleaf, Fiery, Knightmetal, Arctic and Yeti armor sets. The same sets appear in the twilight_forest chapter, so you can work on both at once.[2][3]
In chapter_2_the_star, a quest in "?" asks for the Snow Queen Trophy. That means your Twilight boss run pays off outside the mod's own chapter too.[7]
Which The Twilight Forest config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
The Twilight Forest has a surprisingly long config file, but only a handful of options change how your playthrough feels. Here's how All the Mods 10 8.1 sets the ones you're most likely to run into, starting with the big one: the Uncrafting Table.[8]
The Uncrafting Table is switched off
In this pack, [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.disableUncraftingTable]] is set to true. That disables any use of the Uncrafting Table and also stops it from being crafted or showing up in loot. On top of that, [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Uncrafting Table.disableUncrafting]] is also true, which turns off the table's uncrafting function.[8]
Unverified The config file doesn't list the mod's default values for these two Uncrafting Table options, so it's unconfirmed whether disabling the table is a pack-specific change or the mod's own default.
Bosses
- bossesSpawnDropChests is true, so when you beat a boss its loot goes into a chest where the boss originally spawned instead of spilling on the ground. The Knight Phantoms are the exception, because their drops work differently.[8]
- multiplayerFightAdjuster is set to NONE, so bosses behave the same whether you fight solo or bring friends. You won't get extra loot for a group fight, and bosses won't gain the extra 20 hearts per nearby player that the MORE_HEALTH option would add.[8]
Getting into the Twilight Forest
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.originDimension]] is minecraft:overworld, and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.allowPortalsInOtherDimensions]] is false, so build your portal in the Overworld. That's also where you return to.[8]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.portalUnlockedByAdvancement]] is left empty, which means the portal isn't locked behind any advancement. [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.portalCreationPermission]] is 0, the mod default, so any player can make one.[8]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.maxPortalSize]] stays at the mod default of 64 water spaces, so there's a cap on how big a portal pool the mod will check.[8]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.destructivePortalLightning]] is true, so the lightning that zaps your new portal can set things on fire. Keep flammable builds away from it.[8]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Portal Settings.shouldReturnPortalBeUsable]] is true, so the return portal works without needing the activation item.[8]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Dimension Settings.newPlayersSpawnInTF]] is false, so you start in the Overworld like normal.[8]
Magic tree cores
The Timewood, Transformation, Minewood and Sortingwood cores all work in a radius of 16 blocks in this pack, which matches the mod default. The allowed range is 0 to 128, and setting one to 0 stops that core from working. The options are [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.timeCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.transformationCoreRange]], [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.miningCoreRange]] and [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Magic Trees.sortingCoreRange]].[8]
Other options worth knowing
- casketUUIDLocking is false, so the Keepsake Casket that spawns when you die can be opened by other players, not just you.[8]
- [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.shieldParryTicksArrow]] stays at the mod default of 40 ticks (1 tick is 1/20 of a second) after raising your shield to parry a projectile. [[config:config/twilightforest-common.toml#Shield Parrying.parryNonTwilightAttacks]] is false, so parrying only works on Twilight Forest projectiles.[8]
- disableSkullCandleCreation is false, so you can still make Skull Candles by right-clicking a vanilla skull with a candle.[8]
What changed in The Twilight Forest between versions?
1 part
The Twilight Forest has been in All the Mods 10 since version 2.2 or earlier. All the Mods 10 4.5 ships version 4.7.3196 of the mod, built for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1]
Version updates in the pack changelogs
These are the mod updates the pack changelogs record, from oldest to newest:[9][10][11]
- All the Mods 10 2.42 updated The Twilight Forest from 4.6.3003 to 4.7.3040.[9]
- All the Mods 10 2.43 updated it from 4.7.3040 to 4.7.3094.[10]
- All the Mods 10 2.47 updated it from 4.7.3094 to 4.7.3196. This is the version that All the Mods 10 4.5 still includes.[1][11]
Unverified The pack changelogs only list version numbers, and no changelogs for the shipped jars are stored. What each update added, changed or fixed in gameplay terms (bosses, structures, items, recipes) is unverified here. Check the mod's own release notes before relying on any specific change.
