What is Hostile Neural Networks?
2 parts
Hostile Neural Networks is all about simulating mobs so you can farm their loot. You collect data on a mob, train that data up, and then run simulations that turn power into real, not-so-simulated drops. All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 6.5.1 of the mod.[1][2][3]
How it works
- Craft a Model Framework and right-click the mob you want to study. It turns into a Data Model for that mob.[4]
- Put the model in a Deep Learner. Each Learner holds 4 Data Models and gathers data from your kills as long as it is anywhere in your inventory. Models start at Faulty, and they need to reach Basic before you can simulate them.[4]
- Place the model in a powered Simulation Chamber with at least one Prediction Matrix. Training mode levels up the model. Inference mode always produces a Generalized Prediction, and if the simulation succeeds it also gives you a Mob Prediction. Higher-tier models succeed more often.[4]
- Feed Mob Predictions into a powered Loot Fabricator and pick which drop you want. The machine remembers your choice, so you can automate it.[4]
The Generalized Prediction you get depends on where the mob comes from. Overworld mobs give Generalized Overworld Prediction, Nether mobs give Generalized Nether Prediction, End mobs give Generalized Ender Prediction and Twilight Forest mobs give Generalized Twilight Prediction. All of these are used in various crafting recipes.[4]
This mod is for you if you want a steady, automatable supply of mob drops, including tough ones. The quest book's own examples are Zombies for Iron, Withers for Nether Stars and Ender Dragons for Dragon Eggs.[4]
Where it fits in the pack
The mod has its own quest chapter. It walks you through the basics, starting with "Modeling Mobs" quest and "Learning Mobs" quest and moving on to "Simulating Deaths" quest and "Creating Loot" quest.[4]
It also shows up on the ATM Star path. "Chapter 3: The ATM Star" includes "Hostile Neural Networks" quest, which asks for a Model Framework, followed by "Ender Dragon Data Model" quest. To make that model, right-click an Ender Dragon with an empty Data Model. The quest accepts any tier of it, but the Dragon Soul needs the Ender Dragon Data Model to be Self Aware.[3]
How do you get started with Hostile Neural Networks?
5 parts
Hostile Neural Networks is all about simulating mobs to farm their loot. You gather data on a mob, train a Data Model with it, and then run simulations that turn into real drops. Here's the order to build things in so you're never stuck waiting on a missing piece.[1][3]
Step 1: Make a Model Framework
Everything starts with the Model Framework. Right-click the mob you want data on, and the Framework turns into that mob's Data Model. This is the "Modeling Mobs" quest quest in the mod's chapter. It's also the entry quest for the mod in the ATM Star chapter, "Hostile Neural Networks" quest.[3][4]

Each Framework becomes one mob's Data Model, so make one for every mob you plan to farm.
Step 2: Make a Deep Learner
The Deep Learner is how your models learn from real fights. Right-click it to open its HUD and put your Data Models inside. Each Learner holds 4 Data Models. As long as the Learner is anywhere in your inventory, killing the matching mobs adds data to those models. This is the "Learning Mobs" quest quest.[4]

Step 3: Level your model to Basic
New Data Models start at the Faulty tier, and you need to get them to at least Basic before you can simulate them. That first step has to happen in the Deep Learner. The Learner's HUD shows how many kills you need to level up, and so does the model's tooltip. This is the "Leveling Up Data Models" quest quest.[1][4]
Step 4: Simulation Chamber and Prediction Matrix
The Simulation Chamber is the main machine of the mod. Give it power and a Data Model, and it runs simulations. Each model needs a different amount of power, which you can see in the model's tooltip. The Chamber also needs at least one Prediction Matrix to run a simulation. You need both items for the "Simulating Deaths" quest quest.[1][4]

The Chamber has two modes. Training gives the model more data but produces no output, and it costs more energy. Inference is faster and puts its results on the Matrix, but the model gains no data. Inference always gives you a Generalized Prediction, and if the simulation succeeds you also get a Mob Prediction. Higher-tier models succeed more often, up to 99.5% at Self Aware.[1][4][5]
The type of Generalized Prediction depends on where the mob comes from, for example Generalized Overworld Prediction or Generalized Nether Prediction. These are used in crafting recipes, and you can even craft one type into the next.[4][6]

Step 5: Loot Fabricator
The Loot Fabricator is what turns Mob Predictions into real items. Give it power and a Mob Prediction, then choose which drop you want from that mob. It remembers your choice for each model type, so you can automate it and feed several kinds of predictions into one Fabricator. The quest's examples include Zombies for Iron and Withers for Nether Stars. This is the "Creating Loot" quest quest.[1][4]

How does Hostile Neural Networks work?
7 parts
Everything in Hostile Neural Networks follows one pipeline. You build a Data Model of a mob, train it, run simulations of it to get predictions, and then turn those predictions into real mob drops. Once you see how the pieces connect, the whole mod clicks.[1]
Data Models: the core of everything
The Data Model is the fundamental unit of the mod. It's an item that holds information about one entity, and you use it to generate that entity's drops. To get one, first craft a Model Framework, then use it on the mob you want to model.[1]

Training your models
You can train a Data Model in one of two ways: with a Deep Learner or with a Simulation Chamber. Every model starts in the Faulty tier, and you have to get it up to Basic in the Deep Learner before anything else works.[1]
The Deep Learner stores a few Data Models inside it. While you carry it, the kills you get start training those models. This is the hands-on stage, where you do the actual fighting.[1]

Once a model reaches Basic or higher, you can put it in the Simulation Chamber. The chamber trains the model through simulated combat, so you don't have to fight anymore. Each simulation needs energy, and the amount depends on the model type. It also needs a catalyst item, which is usually a Prediction Matrix.[1][5]

Predictions and accuracy
Every simulation produces a generalized prediction. A simulation may also produce a Mob Prediction, and your chances depend on the model's accuracy. The higher the model's tier, the higher its accuracy, up to 99.5% at Self Aware. Training a model to the top tier is what really pays off.[1]
Generalized predictions come in Overworld, Nether and Ender flavours. The pack has recipes that upgrade them one step at a time. You can turn a Generalized Overworld Prediction into a Generalized Nether Prediction, and a Nether prediction into an Generalized Ender Prediction.[6]

Turning predictions into loot
Mob Predictions go into a Loot Fabricator. This machine uses power to turn predictions into real mob drops. Each model type has a pre-defined list of possible drops, and you pick a target drop for each type.[1][5]
The Loot Fabricator remembers your choice for each model type. That means you can feed several different kinds of predictions into a single fabricator, and each one still produces the drop you selected for it.[1]

The Data Center multiblock
The Data Center is the peak of simulation. It runs up to 25 Self Aware Data Models at the same time. Each model produces one drop per cycle, and all the drops go into a shared output buffer.[5]
Crafting Shaped

| any obsidian | any obsidian | any obsidian |

The Data Center needs a 7×7×7 hollow shell built around it. Here's how to put it together:[5]
- Build the floor of the 7×7×7 shell out of obsidian.[5]
- Build the walls and ceiling out of black stained glass.[5]
- Place the Data Center controller in place of one bottom-wall block, facing outwards.[5]
- Optionally, swap any wall or ceiling block for a Data Center IO Port. The controller detects it automatically.[5]
To run the Data Center, put your Data Models into its 5×5 grid and the matching items into its four input slots. Each active slot uses up one input per cycle. It then produces the drop chosen by its Fabrication Directive, so set your directives up before you start.[5]
IO Ports and automation
A Data Center IO Port is wired into the Data Center's shell and acts as a proxy for the controller. You can use one in place of any wall or ceiling block. Right-click a port to cycle it through its four modes:[5]
- Energy: the port accepts power for the Data Center.[5]
- Models: the port exposes the Data Model slots.[5]
- Inputs: the port exposes the input item slots.[5]
- Outputs: the port exposes the output slots.[5]
All the Mods 10 changed the IO Port recipe, so check the in-pack version below rather than an older guide.[6]

Training mode vs. inference mode
The mod's interface has two simulation modes. In training mode, simulations increase a model's data but produce no outputs. In inference mode, simulations produce output but the models don't gain any data. So you choose between levelling up your models and collecting drops from them.[5]
Unverified Which machine offers the training and inference mode switch is not confirmed. The exact energy costs per model type, the amount of data needed for each tier, and the names of the tiers between Basic and Self Aware are also not confirmed.
How do you progress through Hostile Neural Networks?
7 parts
Hostile Neural Networks is all about simulating mobs so you can farm their loot. In All the Mods 10 the mod has its own quest chapter with a clear path. You start with a Model Framework and a Deep Learner, level up your Data Models by killing mobs, run them in a Simulation Chamber, and turn the results into loot with a Loot Fabricator. The big goal at the end is the Data Center multiblock.[3][4]
Getting started: Model Framework and Deep Learner
Your first quest, "Modeling Mobs" quest, asks for a Model Framework. Right-click the mob you want data on while holding the framework. If it works, the framework turns into that mob's Data Model.[4]

Data Model tiers
The "Leveling Up Data Models" quest quest explains that every Data Model starts at the first tier, Faulty. You need to get it to at least Basic before you can run simulations with it. The Deep Learner HUD shows how many kills you need for the next level, and the model's tooltip shows it too.[4]
Leveling up is worth it. The higher your Data Model's tier, the better its chance of a successful simulation. Self Aware is the big target: the Data Center runs Self Aware models, and the Dragon Soul needs a Self Aware Ender Dragon Data Model.[3][4]
Unverified The full list of tiers between Basic and Self Aware, and the exact kill counts for each tier, could not be confirmed. Check the Deep Learner HUD or the model tooltip in game.
Simulation Chamber and Prediction Matrix
"Simulating Deaths" quest unlocks after the first two quests and asks for a Simulation Chamber and a Prediction Matrix. The Simulation Chamber is the mod's main machine. It needs power, and how much depends on the Data Model inside, which you can see in the model's tooltip. It also needs at least one Prediction Matrix to run a simulation.[4]

Simulations have two modes, so pick the one that fits your goal.[4]
- Training: the Data Model gains data, but you get no Generalized Predictions or Mob Predictions. It costs more Forge Energy than Inference.[4]
- Inference: the result goes onto the Prediction Matrix, and the Data Model gains no data. It is faster than Training.[4]
Generalized Predictions
Simulations always give you some kind of Generalized Prediction, which is used in various crafting recipes. The type depends on where the mob comes from. The chapter has separate quests for the Generalized Overworld Prediction, Generalized Nether Prediction, Generalized Ender Prediction and Generalized Twilight Prediction, and each one makes materials from its own dimension.[4]
If you're short on one type, conversion recipes let you turn a Generalized Overworld Prediction into a Nether one, and a Nether one into an Ender one.[6]

Loot Fabricator
When a simulation succeeds, you also get a Prediction for that mob. "Creating Loot" quest has you build a Loot Fabricator, which turns these Mob Predictions into real loot. Give it power and a Mob Prediction, then choose which drop you want. It remembers your choice, so you can automate it. The quest gives Ender Dragons for Dragon Eggs, Zombies for Iron and Withers for Nether Stars as examples.[4]

After Creating Loot, the chapter branches into a large set of quests that each ask for a Mob Prediction. They make a handy checklist for which mobs to model next.[4]
The Data Center
"The Data Center" quest also unlocks after Creating Loot. The Data Center is a 7x7x7 multiblock that combines the Simulation Chamber and the Loot Fabricator. It can run 25 Self Aware Data Models at once and works like Inference simulations. The big difference is that it skips Mob Predictions and produces loot directly, with the same modes as the Loot Fabricator.[4]
- Build the floor (the first layer) out of Obsidian. The quest's Obsidians task shows which kinds of Obsidian count.[4]
- Build the walls and ceiling out of Black Stained Glass.[4]
- Place the Data Center controller in place of one block in the bottom row of a wall.[4]
- Swap in Data Center IO Port blocks where you need them. They can replace Black Stained Glass.[4]

Side goal: the Ender Dragon Data Model
The ATM Star chapter also uses this mod. Its "Ender Dragon Data Model" quest quest wants an Ender Dragon Data Model, which you make by right-clicking an Ender Dragon with an empty Data Model. Any tier completes the quest, but the Dragon Soul needs the model at Self Aware. To get there, you need lots of Dragon kills or lots of Training simulations.[3]
Unverified The pack has a recipe for the Fabrication Directive, but what it does could not be confirmed.

How does Hostile Neural Networks work with other mods?
2 parts
In All the Mods 10, the big crossover for Hostile Neural Networks is with Twilight Forest. The pack adds a set of crafting recipes that use the Generalized Twilight Prediction to make Twilight Forest materials. That gives you a way to farm Twilight goodies from your simulation setup instead of trekking back into the dimension every time you run low.[4][6]
These recipes were changed by the pack, so they may not match what you'd see in a standalone install. Always trust the in-game recipe viewer or the recipe cards below over older guides.[6]
Where Generalized Twilight Predictions come from
Every run in the Simulation Chamber produces some kind of Generalized Prediction, and which kind you get depends on where the mob in your Data Model comes from. You also need a Prediction Matrix loaded to run a simulation at all. The questline has its own quest for obtaining a Generalized Twilight Prediction, a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks", which unlocks after "Simulating Deaths" quest and is described as making various Twilight Forest materials.[4]
Unverified The sources don't list which specific Data Models produce Generalized Twilight Predictions. Presumably they come from Twilight Forest mobs, but check the tooltips of your models in-game to confirm.

Each of these is a shapeless crafting recipe that uses a Generalized Twilight Prediction. The recipe cards show the exact in-pack inputs.[6]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Hostile Neural Networks?
4 parts
Hostile Neural Networks shows up in two places in the questbook. It has its own chapter, also called Hostile Neural Networks, which takes you from your first Model Framework to the Data Center multiblock. It also has a short branch in Chapter 3: The ATM Star, where you need an Ender Dragon Data Model.[3][4]
The Hostile Neural Networks chapter
After the chapter's welcome quest, two quests unlock together. "Modeling Mobs" quest asks for a Model Framework. To turn it into a Data Model for a mob, right-click that mob with it. "Learning Mobs" quest asks for a Deep Learner. Each Learner holds 4 Data Models and collects data for them while it's anywhere in your inventory. If you carry several Learners, kills count for the models in all of them.[4]
Once you have both, "Leveling Up Data Models" quest asks for a Data Model. Models start at the Faulty tier, and you need to reach at least Basic before you can simulate them. The Learner's HUD and the model's tooltip both show how many kills the next tier needs.[4]
The same two starting quests also unlock "Simulating Deaths" quest. It asks for a Simulation Chamber and a Prediction Matrix. The Chamber needs power and at least one Prediction Matrix, and it has two modes. Training gives your model data but uses more Forge Energy. Inference is faster and outputs predictions without giving the model any data. Higher-tier models succeed more often.[4]
After Simulating Deaths
Simulating Deaths opens up several branches. Four quests each ask for one kind of Generalized Prediction, and their descriptions say they're used to make materials from those places:[4]
- a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks": Generalized Overworld Prediction (Overworld materials)[4]
- a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks": Generalized Nether Prediction (Nether materials)[4]
- a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks": Generalized Ender Prediction (End materials)[4]
- a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks": Generalized Twilight Prediction (Twilight Forest materials)[4]
The last branch is "Creating Loot" quest, which asks for a Loot Fabricator. Give it power and a Mob Prediction, then pick which drop you want. It remembers your choice, so you can automate it. The quest's examples are Ender Dragons for Dragon Eggs, Zombies for Iron and Withers for Nether Stars.[4]
Creating Loot unlocks a long list of untitled quests, starting with a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks" and a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks". Each one asks for a Prediction. This is where you'll spend a lot of time collecting Mob Predictions.[4]
Unverified The quest file doesn't say which mob each of these prediction quests asks for.
The Data Center
Creating Loot also unlocks "The Data Center" quest. It asks for a Data Center and a Data Center IO Port, plus two more item tasks: one takes any of several black glass blocks, and the other isn't named in the quest data. The Data Center is a 7x7x7 multiblock that runs 25 Self Aware Data Models at once. It works like Inference, but it produces loot directly, with the same modes as the Loot Fabricator.[4]
To build it, make the floor out of Obsidian and the walls and ceiling out of Black Stained Glass. The controller can replace one bottom-wall block, and IO Ports can replace glass blocks. The quest's Obsidian task shows which kinds of Obsidian are accepted.[4]
Chapter 3: The ATM Star
In Chapter 3, "Hostile Neural Networks" quest asks for a Model Framework. It unlocks "Ender Dragon Data Model" quest, where you right-click an Ender Dragon with the empty model. Any tier of the Ender Dragon Data Model completes that quest.[3]
Which Hostile Neural Networks config options matter?
The mod's own project page describes a few numbers and costs you'll deal with most, but it doesn't list any config options. It says running a simulation in the Simulation Chamber costs energy, and the amount depends on the model type. Each simulation also uses up a catalyst item, usually a Prediction Matrix. It also says accuracy goes up as your Data Model reaches higher tiers, topping out at 99.5% at Self Aware.[1]
Keep in mind that this is how the mod describes itself in general, not a confirmed All the Mods 10 8.1 setting. The pack could use different values.[1]
Unverified We couldn't check this pack's Hostile Neural Networks config values, so they aren't listed here. That means we can't tell you whether the pack changed any mod defaults, such as simulation energy costs, accuracy per model tier, or Deep Learner and Simulation Chamber settings. We also couldn't confirm which of these are configurable in the first place. To see the exact values, open the mod's config file in your own All the Mods 10 8.1 instance.
What changed in Hostile Neural Networks between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Hostile Neural Networks version 6.5.1. It's been part of the pack for a long time: it was first included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier.[2]
Updates across pack releases
Here's how the mod's version has changed through the pack's releases, oldest first. Each step comes from the pack changelogs.[7][8][9][10][11]
- All the Mods 10 2.47 updated Hostile Neural Networks from 6.1.3 to 6.2.0.[7]
- All the Mods 10 4.3 updated it from 6.2.0 to 6.3.0.[8]
- All the Mods 10 7.1 updated it from 6.3.0 to 6.4.1.[9]
- All the Mods 10 7.2 updated it from 6.4.1 to 6.5.0.[10]
- All the Mods 10 7.3 updated it from 6.5.0 to 6.5.1.[11]
The latest update in these changelogs is the move to 6.5.1 in 7.3, and that's the same version you'll find in 8.1.[2][11]
Unverified The specific features, fixes or balance changes in each of these Hostile Neural Networks versions can't be confirmed here. The pack changelogs only record the version numbers, and the mod's own changelogs aren't available.
