What is Sophisticated Storage?
1 part
Sophisticated Storage adds tiered chests and barrels to the pack. This pack ships version 1.4.46, and the mod has been here since All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier.[1]
The storage questline tells you what to expect. It has a metal progression where each tier is a chest or barrel, and either one completes the quest. You go from Copper Chest or Copper Barrel to the iron, gold, diamond and netherite versions.[2]
Where it fits in the questline
- Copper comes first, with the Copper Chest or Copper Barrel quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Iron follows with a quest in "?", which unlocks after the copper quest.[2]
- Gold comes next with a quest in "?", then diamond with a quest in "?".[2]
- Netherite is the last tier, with a quest in "?" after diamond.[2]
There is also a side branch. The Storage Controller quest a quest in "?" leads to the Storage Tool in a quest in "?". The Storage Link quest a quest in "?" needs both of those done first. Separately, the Upgrade Base has its own quest, a quest in "?".[2]
Unverified The sources I have only list the items and quest order. They don't explain what the controller, storage link, storage tool or upgrade base do, or how large each tier is, so check those in-game before relying on them.
How do you get started with Sophisticated Storage?
6 parts
Welcome to Sophisticated Storage! This pack has a dedicated storage quest chapter, and it's a nice roadmap: you start with upgraded chests or barrels, then move on to the Storage Controller and its helpers. Here's the order I'd follow, and why.[2]
Step 1: Copper storage
The chapter opens with a quest in "?", which accepts either a Copper Chest or a Copper Barrel. Pick whichever style you like, since both count. Each tier is an upgrade of the one before it, so these are crafted from the plain Chest or Barrel.[2][3]

Unverified The sources I have don't show how the plain Chest and Barrel themselves are crafted, so check the in-game recipe viewer for those. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Step 2: Iron storage
Next comes a quest in "?", which asks for an Iron Chest or Iron Barrel and unlocks after the copper quest. Copper isn't strictly required for crafting, though. The pack has iron recipes that start from the plain version and others that start from the copper version.[2][3]

Step 3: The Storage Controller
This is the big quality-of-life piece. The Storage Controller lets you deposit items into, and pipe items to and from, a connected multiblock of storages. Its quest is a quest in "?".[2][4]

Step 4: Storage Tool and Storage Link
After the controller, the chapter sends you to the Storage Tool in a quest in "?". You need it for the next item, the Storage Link (a quest in "?"), which connects a separate multiblock of storages to the controller. You use the Storage Tool to link it to the controller.[2][4]

Later tiers
Once you're comfortable, the quest chapter continues up the tiers in a chain. Each one needs the previous tier first.[2]
- Gold: a quest in "?", for a Gold Chest or Gold Barrel.[2]
- Diamond: a quest in "?", for a Diamond Chest or Diamond Barrel.[2]
- Netherite: a quest in "?", for a Netherite Chest or Netherite Barrel.[2]
How does Sophisticated Storage work?
9 parts
Sophisticated Storage is mostly about three things: bigger and smarter inventories, a multiblock system for piping items in and out, and upgrades that bolt extra behaviour onto a storage block. Here is what the sources confirm about how each part works in this pack.[4]
Storage multiblocks
The Controller lets you deposit items into, and pipe items to and from, a connected multiblock of storages. You build the multiblock out of normal storages, then use special blocks to decide how items get in and out.[4]
- Storage Input: when placed in a storage multiblock, it lets you pipe items into it. Its tooltip says it is optimized for low TPS impact.[3][4]
- Storage Output: when placed in a storage multiblock, it lets you pipe items out of it.[3][4]
- Storage I/O: when placed in a storage multiblock, it lets you pipe items both to and from it.[3][4]
- Storage Link: connects a separate multiblock of storages to a controller. You use the Storage Tool to link it to the controller.[4]
You don't need to craft the three piping blocks separately. In this pack they cycle into each other with shapeless recipes: Input becomes Output, Output becomes I/O, and I/O becomes Input. So if you placed the wrong one, you can just swap it.[3]
The Storage Tool does more than linking. Its tooltip says it links, locks, and hides counts, tiers and locks on storages. You switch modes with a keybind shown in the tooltip.[4]
Barrels, chests and limited barrels
The pack has wood-variant Chest and Barrel recipes, for example acacia and bamboo. The limited barrels come in four versions, from Limited Barrel 1 to Limited Barrel 4. Their tooltips show a slot count and a stack size multiplier. The sources don't show the actual numbers, so check the tooltip in game.[3][4]

Tier upgrades
The Basic Tier Upgrade upgrades vanilla inventories to their sophisticated version. From there, the Basic to Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond and Netherite tier upgrades follow. In the recipe dump, the higher tiers are built on the previous tier's upgrade. For example, the Iron upgrade has a recipe from the Copper one, Gold from Iron, Diamond from Gold, and Netherite from Diamond. The Iron upgrade also has a direct recipe.[3][4]

Stack upgrades and downgrades
Stack upgrades change how many stacks fit in each slot. Tier 1 multiplies it by 2, Tier 1 Plus by 3, Tier 2 by 4, Tier 3 by 8, Tier 4 by 16 and Tier 5 by 32. The Omega tier raises the stack size limit to 2,147,483,647.[4]
Stack downgrades go the other way. Tier 1 divides the number of stacks per slot by 8, Tier 2 by 16 and Tier 3 by 32.[4]
Item automation upgrades
- Hopper Upgrade: pulls items from the block on top and/or pushes them to the block below. The Advanced Hopper is faster and adds input/output options.[4]
- Filter Upgrade: filters items piped in and/or out of the storage. The Advanced Filter has more filtering options.[4]
- Pickup Upgrade: makes the storage pick up items. The Magnet Upgrade pulls items into the storage from a range, and the Advanced Magnet has a greater range and more filtering options.[4]
- Void Upgrade: voids the items selected in its filter. The Advanced Void has more filtering options.[4]
- Feeding Upgrade: feeds you with food from the storage's inventory. The Advanced Feeding adds more options for when food gets fed.[4]
Processing and crafting upgrades
Several upgrades give you a machine in an upgrade tab. The Crafting Upgrade is a crafting table, and Smelting, Blasting and Smoking upgrades do what their furnaces do. The Stonecutter and Sawmill upgrades give you those tools too. The Chipped upgrades add Chipped workbenches such as the Mason Table and the Glassblower.[4]
The Auto-smelting, Auto-blasting and Auto-smoking upgrades go further and automatically pull and push items. In this pack the recipes for Auto-blasting Upgrade and Auto-smoking Upgrade both start from the Auto-smelting Upgrade.[3][4]

The Compacting Upgrade compacts items into their compressed variants, but only with 2x2 recipes. The Advanced Compacting handles both 2x2 and 3x3 recipes and has more filtering options. The Compression Upgrade automatically compresses and decompresses items.[4]
The Alchemy Upgrade automatically uses potions, food with effects, or milk buckets. The Advanced version adds effect filtering options.[3][4]

Fluids and experience
Fluid handling goes through the Tank upgrade. The Pump Upgrade pumps fluids between the Tank upgrade and adjacent blocks. The Advanced Pump also works with fluid containers in your hand and fluid blocks in the world, and it lets you filter which fluids get pumped. The XP Pump Upgrade pumps experience between the Tank upgrade and the player.[4]
Infinity upgrades
The Infinity Upgrade makes all items in a storage infinite, and only admins can set the infinite items and break the storage. The Survival Infinity Upgrade does the same but lets all players set infinite items and break the storage.[4]
Other notes
The Paintbrush applies decoration to storage blocks in the world, and the decoration it applies is set in the decoration table. The Packing Tape tooltip has a disabled state that reads "config set to drop all storages as packed".[4]
Unverified No config files for this mod were available, so the packing tape config option, tank capacity, hopper and pump speeds, magnet ranges, controller range limits and slot counts per tier are unverified. Check the in-game tooltips for those.
How do you progress through Sophisticated Storage?
3 parts
Sophisticated Storage progression in this pack is a tier ladder for your chests and barrels. The pack's storage quest chapter follows it: copper, iron, gold, diamond, then netherite. Each quest accepts either the chest or the barrel version of the tier, so pick whichever you prefer.[2]
The tier ladder
- Copper: a quest in "?" asks for a Copper Chest or Copper Barrel.[2]
- Iron: a quest in "?" unlocks after the copper quest and asks for an Iron Chest or Iron Barrel.[2]
- Gold: a quest in "?" follows the iron quest and asks for a Gold Chest or Gold Barrel.[2]
- Diamond: a quest in "?" follows the gold quest and asks for a Diamond Chest or Diamond Barrel.[2]
- Netherite: a quest in "?" is the last step and asks for a Netherite Chest or Netherite Barrel.[2]
Every tier is an upgrade recipe, so you keep the container you already have and upgrade it instead of crafting a new one. Gold upgrades an iron container, diamond upgrades a gold one, and netherite upgrades a diamond one. The iron recipes also accept a copper container, so copper follows the quest order but is not required. The recipe dump marks all of these as the mod's own recipes.[3]

Alongside the tiers, the chapter has a short network line. a quest in "?" asks for the Storage Controller. a quest in "?" follows it and asks for the Storage Tool. a quest in "?" needs both of those quests done first and asks for the Storage Link.[2]

How does Sophisticated Storage work with other mods?
3 parts
In this pack, Sophisticated Storage connects with other mods through its upgrade items. Sophisticated Backpacks shares upgrades with it, and the Chipped and Sawmill mods supply crafting stations that become storage upgrades. All of this comes from in-pack crafting recipes.[3]
Sophisticated Backpacks: sharing upgrades
The pack has conversion recipes that turn a Sophisticated Storage upgrade into the matching Sophisticated Backpacks upgrade. For example, your Magnet Upgrade can be converted into a Magnet Upgrade, so you don't have to build the same upgrade twice.[3]

These conversions cover the basic and advanced upgrades, including the Pickup, Filter, Void, Feeding, Compacting, Alchemy and Jukebox lines. They also cover the Smelting, Smoking and Blasting upgrades with their Auto versions, plus the Crafting, Stonecutter and Sawmill upgrades. The Stack Downgrade tiers 1 to 3 and the Chipped upgrades are covered too.[3]
Watch the stack upgrade names, because the tiers are numbered differently between the two mods. Stack Upgrade Tier 1 Plus converts to Stack Upgrade Starter Tier. Stack Upgrade Tier 2 converts to Stack Upgrade Tier 1. The pattern continues up to Stack Upgrade Tier 5, which converts to Stack Upgrade Tier 4.[3]
The pack also has recipes that go the other way, turning a backpack upgrade into a storage upgrade. For example, the Advanced Alchemy Upgrade converts into the Advanced Alchemy Upgrade.[3]

Chipped and Sawmill: workbench upgrades
Sophisticated Storage adds upgrades that bring other mods' crafting stations into your storage. There are seven Chipped ones: Chipped: Alchemy Bench Upgrade, Chipped: Botanist's Workbench Upgrade, Chipped: Carpenters Workbench Upgrade, Chipped: Glassblower Upgrade, Chipped: Loom Table Upgrade, Chipped: Mason Table Upgrade and Chipped: Tinkering Table Upgrade. Each one is crafted around the matching Chipped station, such as the Glassblower.[3]

Quests
The pack's storage quest chapter only asks for Sophisticated Storage's own items, such as the Storage Controller, the Upgrade Base and the chest and barrel tiers. None of its quests involve items from other mods.[2]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Sophisticated Storage?
3 parts
Sophisticated Storage shows up in a single quest chapter in the pack, called "storage". It holds nine quests, and none of them have a title. Each one is a simple item-submission task, so you only need to have the item. Here is how they chain together.[2]
The chest and barrel tier line
This is the longest path in the chapter. Every tier accepts either the chest or the barrel, so pick whichever you prefer. The first two tiers both unlock off an earlier quest in the chapter that isn't about this mod's items, and the line continues from there.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Copper Chest or a Copper Barrel.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for an Iron Chest or an Iron Barrel. It needs the copper quest finished, plus the same earlier quest the copper one needs.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Gold Chest or a Gold Barrel.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Diamond Chest or a Diamond Barrel.[2]
- a quest in "?" is the end of the line. It asks for a Netherite Chest or a Netherite Barrel.[2]
The controller line
The second branch is about linking your storage together. It starts with the Storage Controller, then moves on to the tools that connect to it.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Storage Controller.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Storage Tool and unlocks after the controller quest.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Storage Link. It needs both the controller quest and the storage tool quest done first.[2]
The standalone quest
a quest in "?" asks for the Upgrade Base. It unlocks from the same earlier quest as the copper and controller quests, and no other quest in this chapter depends on it.[2]
Unverified The quests have no titles or descriptions in the pack files, and no rewards are listed. What the quests give you for completing them is unverified.
