What is RFTools Builder?
1 part
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base that adds the builder, all of the shape cards, and the shield system. If you like automating big construction jobs or protecting your base with shields, this is the mod you're looking for.[1]
It's meant to be used together with RFTools Power. It also needs RFTools Base and McJtyLib to work, so those come along with it.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships RFTools Builder version 1.21-7.0.1. It has been in the pack since version 1.27 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]
Unverified No sources were available on where RFTools Builder fits into the pack's progression, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Recipes, config values and usage details for the builder, shape cards and shields are therefore not covered in this overview.
How do you get started with RFTools Builder?
4 parts
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base. It adds the builder, all the shape cards and the shield system. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, and it is intended to be used together with RFTools Power, so plan for that mod too.[1]
No quests in this pack involve the mod, so there is no quest-book path to follow. This is the order I'd craft things in.[1]
Start with the Shape Card
Make the Shape Card first. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other packs. Most of the other shape cards are crafted from this one, so you'll come back to it a lot.[3]
Then the Builder
Next is the Builder. The recipe for it is added by the pack itself, so follow the one below.[3]

Specialise your cards
Once the basic card works for you, you can turn it into a specialised one. The Shape Card (Quarry) is crafted from a plain Shape Card.[3]

The Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry) are upgrades that take the Quarry card as an ingredient, and they use rarer materials, so save them for later.[3]

The clearing versions are made by combining a quarry card with glass, and a clearing card can be turned back into its normal version with dirt.[3]
Space Chamber and shields
If you want to go beyond the builder, look at the Space Chamber line. The pack changed the recipe for the Space Card, while the Space Chamber and Space Chamber Controller use the mod's own recipes.[3]

How does RFTools Builder work?
4 parts
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base. It adds the Builder, the shape cards and the shield system. It depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, and it is meant to be played together with RFTools Power.[1]
Builder and shape cards
The pack adds its own recipe for the Builder, so it is not the mod's default craft.[3]

The basic Shape Card also has a pack-changed recipe.[3]
The special variants are Shape Card (Placing Liquids), Shape Card (Pump) and Shape Card (Clearing Pump). These three use the mod's own recipes, not pack changes. Separate recipes also convert between the Pump and Clearing Pump cards.[3]

On the client side, builder.showProgressHud is on in this pack. That means a holographic HUD showing the current progress appears above the builder.[4]
Scanner and projector display settings
These client options control how shapes are displayed. In this pack they all match the mod defaults.[4]
- scanner.baseProjectorVolume is 0.4. It sets the projector sound volume, and 0.0 turns the sound off.[4]
- scanner.clientRenderDataTimeout is 10,000 milliseconds. This is how long the client keeps shape render data that hasn't been used. A lower value frees memory faster but means shape renders get updated more often.[4]
- scanner.projectorFlashTimeout is 400 milliseconds. This is how long a scanline flash exists on the client.[4]
- scanner.locatorBeaconHeight is 30. It is the height of the beacon when beacons are used.[4]
Shields
The pack changed the recipe for the Shield Projector Tier 1. The four template blocks, Red Shield Template, Green Shield Template, Blue Shield Template and Yellow Shield Template, use the mod's own recipes, shown below.[3]

Mover Control comes in four versions: Mover Control, Mover Control (Page 2), Mover Control (Page 3) and Mover Control (Page 4). You cycle through them with simple recipes, each turning one version into the next. Page 4 turns back into the first version.[3]
The vehicle line also has pack-changed recipes. This covers the Vehicle Builder, Vehicle Card, Vehicle Control Module and Vehicle Status Module.[3]
How do you progress through RFTools Builder?
6 parts
There are no quests to follow for this mod, so your progression comes from the recipes themselves. The pack changes several of them, and the recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack versions.[3]
Unverified The sources I was given contain no quests for this mod, so I can't describe a quest-driven path. The order below is only a suggestion based on how the recipes chain together.
Step 1: the Builder
The Builder is the heart of the mod, and its recipe is added by the pack. It is not a mod recipe.[3]

| any allthemodium nugget | any ender pearl | any allthemodium nugget |
| any redstone storage block | any redstone storage block | |

Step 2: Shape Cards
Everything starts with the basic Shape Card. The pack changed its recipe.[3]
The specialised cards are made by upgrading a plain Shape Card, so craft the basic card first. That covers Shape Card (Placing Liquids), Shape Card (Pump), Shape Card (Quarry) and Shape Card (Void).[3]
- Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry) are both upgrades of the Quarry card.[3]
- The clearing versions (Shape Card (Clearing Pump), Shape Card (Clearing Quarry), Shape Card (Clearing Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Clearing Silk Quarry)) are made from the matching normal card.[3]
- Each clearing card can be turned back into its normal version with a dirt recipe.[3]

Shield Projector tiers
The shield projector has four tiers. The pack changed the recipe for Shield Projector Tier 1. Tiers 2, 3 and 4 are each crafted by upgrading the previous tier, so you can't skip ahead.[3]

Shield Projector Tier 2 upgrades Tier 1.
Shield Projector Tier 3 upgrades Tier 2.
Shield Projector Tier 4 upgrades Tier 3.
The template blocks come in four colours: Red Shield Template, Green Shield Template, Blue Shield Template and Yellow Shield Template. All four use mod recipes, and the pack does not change them.[3]
Space Chamber
The Space Chamber uses the mod's own recipe, and so does the Space Chamber Controller, which is crafted from the chamber itself. The Space Card is a pack-changed recipe.[3]

Mover
The Mover and Mover Controller use mod recipes. The pack changed Mover Control and Mover Status.[3]

Mover Control has four pages. You switch between them with shapeless recipes: Mover Control (Page 2), Mover Control (Page 3) and Mover Control (Page 4). Crafting Page 4 gets you back to the plain Mover Control.[3]
Vehicles
The pack changed the whole vehicle chain. That covers the Vehicle Builder, the Vehicle Card, the Vehicle Control Module and the Vehicle Status Module. Both modules are crafted from a Vehicle Card, so make the card first.[3]

How does RFTools Builder work with other mods?
4 parts
RFTools Builder is an addon for RFTools Base. It is meant to be used together with RFTools Power, and it needs RFTools Base and McJtyLib to run. In this pack, most of the links to other mods show up in crafting recipes, so that's what this section covers.[1]
The Builder and Allthemodium
The Builder has a recipe added by the pack itself. It builds on the Machine Frame from RFTools Base and also asks for materials tagged as Allthemodium nuggets, so you'll need to have reached that content before you can make one.[3]

Recipes the pack changed
The pack changed several recipes for this mod: Mover Control, Mover Status, Shield Projector Tier 1 and Vehicle Builder. They are still built around the Machine Frame, but don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Check the recipes below.[3]

Vanilla items in the mod's crafting
The Mover and Mover Controller use vanilla rail items, namely Rail and Activator Rail. These two recipes are the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[3]

Shape cards and shield upgrades
The upgrade recipes mix vanilla rare drops with the Dimensional Shard from RFTools Base. The Shape Card (Fortune Quarry) and Shape Card (Silk Quarry) are made from the plain Shape Card (Quarry). The higher Shield Projector tiers, Shield Projector Tier 3 and Shield Projector Tier 4, are made from the tier below. The Tier 4 upgrade also needs a Nether Star.[3]

Which RFTools Builder config options matter?
2 parts
RFTools Builder has just one config file in this pack that the sources cover: the client-side file. It only affects visuals and sound on your own machine. Every option here that lists a mod default is set to that default, so the pack hasn't changed any of them.[4]
Builder
- builder.showProgressHud is set to true in this pack. When it's on, a holo HUD showing the current progress appears above the builder. The sources don't list a mod default for this one, so I can't say whether the pack changed it.[4]
Scanner and projector
- scanner.baseProjectorVolume is 0.4, the same as the mod default. It controls the projector sound, and 0.0 turns it off. The range is 0.0 to 1.0, so turn it down or off if the hum bothers you.[4]
- scanner.projectorFlashTimeout is 400, the same as the mod default. It's the number of milliseconds a scanline flash exists on the client, with a range of 10 to 1,000,000.[4]
- scanner.locatorBeaconHeight is 30, the same as the mod default. It sets the height of the beacon when beacons are used. It must be greater than 0.[4]
- scanner.clientRenderDataTimeout is 10,000, the same as the mod default. It's the number of milliseconds before the client removes shape render data that hasn't been used, with a range of 100 to 1,000,000. Lowering it frees memory faster, but shape renders have to be updated more often.[4]
