What is RFTools Base?
2 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation mod for McJty's tech mods. The RFTools family, Deep Resonance and XNet all build on it. In this pack you get version 1.21-6.0.6. It needs McJtyLib to run.[1][2][3]
On its own it is mostly a support mod. It gives the other tech mods their shared pieces, so you'll meet it whenever you use anything from McJty's family.[1]
What it adds
- Dimensional Shard ore. There is a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions. It generates underground in small clusters, Fortune affects it, and it drops Dimensional Shards.[1][4]
- The Machine Infuser, which spends Dimensional Shards to make machines more efficient. For most machines, infusing lowers their power requirements, and some get extra benefits. Infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power.[1][5]
- Base crafting materials for the other tech mods, including Machine Frames and Machine Bases. Both do nothing on their own and exist to be crafted into other machines.[1][6][7]
- The smart wrench, used to configure and rotate machines, plus a security and owner system.[1][6]
Dimensional Shards are also an ingredient in several of the more complicated recipes from the tech mods, so they are worth collecting early.[4]
Who it's for
It's for you if you plan to use McJty's tech mods, such as power generation, storage or XNet-style item and fluid distribution. You mine the shards, craft the frames and use the infuser to cut the power cost of the machines you build.[1][4][5][8]
Unverified Where RFTools Base fits in this pack's progression is not confirmed by the available sources. They show no quests for it and no place for it on the ATM Star path. The in-game guide also has entries for machines from other RFTools mods, but the sources don't confirm which of those mods are in this pack.
How do you get started with RFTools Base?
5 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation for the whole RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. It doesn't do much by itself. What it gives you are the crafting materials, the wrench and the infuser that every other tech machine builds on. Here is the order I'd make things in.[1][3]
First, the Technology Guide
Start with the Technology Guide. It's the in-game manual for the RFTools suite, XNet and Deep Resonance, so it's the quickest way to look things up while you play.[9]

Second, Machine Frame and Machine Base
Next come the two crafting materials. The Machine Frame is the housing for machines and devices. It does nothing on its own, but it's a very common ingredient. The pack changes this recipe, so go by the one below.[7][10]

The Machine Base is similar, but it gives you machines a quarter of a block high, which usually have some form of redstone input or output. It also does nothing alone and is used as the base for other blocks. This recipe is changed by the pack too.[6][10]

Third, the Smart Wrench
The Smart Wrench works like a normal wrench: sneak right-click to pick a tech block up, and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change its mode. In Select Mode it performs special operations on blocks such as the Shield Projector. Several machines also use it to configure their sides.[6][11][12]

Fourth, Dimensional Shards and the Machine Infuser
Dimensional Shard are needed for several of the more complicated recipes, and they can also be used to infuse machines. You can mine Dimensional Shard Ore underground in small clusters. Fortune affects it, and there is only a small amount in the Overworld, with more in other dimensions. The pack also has its own crafting recipe for the shard.[1][4][10]

Once you have shards, make the Machine Infuser. It uses shards to improve the efficiency of a lot of machines. For most things, infusing reduces their power requirements, and infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power. Some devices gain extra benefits as well. The pack changes this recipe too.[5][10]

Handy extras
- Information Screen: a small screen you put next to a machine. By default it shows energy information, and a wrench toggles the display mode if the attached machine supports it. This recipe is changed by the pack.[10][13]
- Filter Module: whitelists or blacklists items for machines that support it, such as the Builder, Modular Storage and Crafter. Sneak right-click an inventory or a block to add its contents to the filter. This recipe is changed by the pack.[10][14]
- Crafting Card: holds a recipe, or any general set of inputs and an output, for machines that use it. This recipe is changed by the pack.[10][15]
- Tablet (empty): opens machines remotely, with room for up to 6 modules. The machine must be near enough or chunkloaded. This recipe is changed by the pack.[10][16]
Modules like the Filter Module are usually inserted by right-clicking the machine with the module in hand.[17]
How does RFTools Base work?
7 parts
RFTools Base is the foundation that the other McJty tech mods build on. On its own it gives you a handful of crafting materials, the Machine Infuser, the Smart Wrench, Dimensional Shard ore and a security and owner system. Most of the machines this section covers come from the mods that sit on top of it, but the shared rules for placing, infusing, configuring and wiring them all start here.[1][3]
Machine Frames and Machine Bases
Machine Frame and Machine Base do nothing on their own. They are crafting ingredients for other machines. The difference is the shape of the result: machines made from a Machine Base are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output.[6][7]
Quarter-block machines face a direction based on which edge of the block face your cursor is closest to. Picture an X on the face you are placing against and look at which quarter of the X you are aiming at. The output faces that way and the input comes from the opposite side. This is handy in cramped spaces and on walls. If you don't like the result, right-click the machine with the wrench in Wrench Mode to change its direction.[6]
The pack changed both recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the base mod.[10]

Infusing machines
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shard to improve the efficiency of a lot of machines. For most things, infusing reduces their power requirements, and some devices get extra benefits. Infusing the Infuser itself makes it use less power.[5]
Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions. It is affected by Fortune and drops shards when broken. The mod's own description says there is a small amount in the Overworld and more in other dimensions. Both recipes below were changed by the pack.[1][4][10]

The in-game guide lists the extra benefits for machines from other mods. Here are some examples:[5]
- Builder: more speed. Shield Projector: more damage.[5]
- Dimensional Cell: a lower cost for extracting RF over long distance and a higher RF/t output.[5]
- Endergenic Generator: more power generated and less power loss while holding pearls.[5]
- Matter Transmitter and Matter Beamer: more speed. The Matter Beamer also needs fewer items.[5]
- Screen Controller: more range.[5]
Wrench, modules and the tablet
The Smart Wrench works like a normal wrench: sneak right-click to pick a tech block up and right-click to rotate it. Right-click in the air to change its mode. In Select Mode it performs specialized operations on blocks such as the Shield Projector. Wrench Mode is the one you use to set the sides of power blocks.[11][12]
Many RFTools machines accept modules, which are items you insert to modify the machine or add functions. In most cases you just right-click the machine with the module.[17]
The Filter Module is the main example. It whitelists or blacklists items for machines such as the Builder, Modular Storage and Crafter. It supports blocks, items and tags, and can also require matching on NBT and damage. Sneak right-click an inventory to add everything in it to the filter, or sneak right-click a block in the world to add just that block. Inside its GUI you can add tags or convert an item to its tags.[14]
The Crafting Card stores a recipe. It handles normal 3x3 recipes and more complex shapes, and various machines can use it. The stored recipe doesn't have to be valid, so the card can also stand for a general set of inputs and an output.[15]
The Tablet (empty) lets you open machines remotely. Sneak right-click to open its internal GUI, where you can install up to 6 modules. A normal right-click opens the current module's GUI, and the previous and next destination keys switch between modules. The target machine must be nearby or chunkloaded. If it is properly chunkloaded, the tablet also works from another dimension.[10][16]
The pack changed the recipes for these items.[10]

Reading machine status
The Information Screen is a small screen that you put next to a machine. By default it shows energy information. Some machines, like the Powercells from RFTools Power, offer extra views, and using a wrench on the screen toggles the display mode where supported. It can also show power information for any block that supports RF/FE.[13][18]

For redstone setups, the Power Level block faces an energy block and emits a signal from 0 to 9 that matches the stored power. The Power Monitor faces an energy block too, but you set a minimum and maximum percentage in its GUI. It emits redstone only while the power level is above the minimum and below the maximum.[19][20]
Power storage
Powercells can be placed alone or side by side. Neighbors join into a multiblock regardless of tier (Low, Medium or High) and automatically share RF. They have no GUI. Hit a side with the smart wrench in Wrench Mode to set it to input, output or ignore. Blue is input, yellow is output and a blank side is neither.[12]
Dimensional Cells are the long-distance option. They don't need to touch each other, because they are linked with a Powercell Card. A freshly crafted card is unlinked. Insert it into a cell that has no link to create a new one. If the cell already has a card in its leftmost slot, the new card is reprogrammed to that same link.[21][22]
The cell's GUI has three slots. The top left creates a new link, the bottom one programs a new card to the current link, and the top right charges items with RF. A bar on the left shows how full the whole linked network is. Four buttons sit on the right: Stats, None, In and Out. None, In and Out set all sides to ignore, transmit or receive. You can also set individual sides with the smart wrench.[21]
The trade-off is that drawing RF from remote cells in Output Mode costs a few percent. Infusing the cells reduces that cost and also boosts their speed. The guide lists three tiers:[21]
- Lowest tier: holds 250,000 RF and moves up to 1,250 RF/Tick.[21]
- Medium tier: holds 1,000,000 RF and moves up to 5,000 RF/Tick.[21]
- Top tier: holds 4,000,000 RF and moves up to 20,000 RF/Tick.[21]
Power generation
The Coal Generator turns coal and blocks of coal into power.[23]
Blaze rods have to be processed by the Blazing Agitator before the Blazing Generator can use them. The agitator slowly improves blaze rods placed in its input area, and it needs a little power to do so. Rods next to other blaze rods improve faster and to a better quality. It has 9 buttons that stop fully processed rods from reaching the output, so you can keep top-quality rods in the input to improve others.[24]
The Blazing Generator burns processed rods. It can use up to four at once and works best when it runs constantly, because powering up takes time before a rod reaches its full potential.[25]
The Blazing Infuser improves rods further by infusing them with a full stack of a catalyst. Once infused, a rod can no longer be used in the agitator to improve other rods. These are the guide's figures for a full stack:[26]
- Redstone: 40% more power.[26]
- Glowstone: 10% more power and 30% more time.[26]
- Quartz: 40% more time.[26]
- Dimensional shards: 60% more power and 60% more time.[26]
- Ghast tear: 80% more power and 80% more time.[26]
- Nether star: 120% more power and 120% more time.[26]
The Endergenic Generator is the timing-heavy one. It captures endergenic pearls and fires them again, and you control it with redstone pulses. It has three modes: Idle (the default), Charging (it can receive pearls) and Holding (it is holding a pearl).[27]
- Charging is a 15-tick cycle, and the best moment for a pearl to arrive is tick 10, counting from 1. A pearl arriving at any other point still generates RF, but a lot less. If the cycle ends with no pearl, the machine returns to idle.[27]
- Once a pearl arrives, the generator goes into Holding and consumes RF every tick. Hold too long and you spend more than you gain. If it can't afford the hold, the pearl is lost, and there is also a small chance of losing it each tick.[27]
- Use a wrench to set each generator's destination, or pearls are lost automatically. Pairing generators with the wrench shows the distance in ticks between them, and the maximum distance is 4 ticks. You need at least two generators to produce power.[27]
- Pearls remember being captured. If you fire a captured pearl again as soon as possible, its power capacity increases.[27]
The Pearl Injector is the only way to get an ender pearl into the system. Place it facing an Endergenic Generator or directly below one. On a redstone signal it converts the pearl to an endergenic pearl and inserts it into the generator. If that generator is already holding a pearl, nothing happens and the pearl is lost.[28]
Moving items, fluids and power with XNet
XNet is the mod for item, fluid and power distribution. Its network has a few basic parts:[8]
- Cables: there are four colored cables, and they don't interfere with each other.[29]
- Connectors: you need a Connector to attach a cable to a block or machine.[30]
- Controller: the most important block. In it you edit channels and define how items, liquids or power move through them.[31]
- Router: connects multiple networks and needs routing cables.[32]
How do you progress through RFTools Base?
5 parts
Here's the honest picture of progression for this mod: the quest sources here don't point you at it, so there's no quest-by-quest path to follow. What I can show you is the order the in-pack recipes naturally build on each other, from the starter items up to the Machine Infuser.[10]
Unverified Whether any quest in this pack asks you to craft or use RFTools Base items is not shown by the sources here, so check the pack's quest book yourself.
First step: guide and tools
Start with the Technology Guide and the Smart Wrench. Both use the mod's own recipes, so the pack hasn't touched them. The wrench is how you rotate and configure the tech machines.[6][10][33]

Second step: Machine Frames and Machine Bases
Almost everything in the RFTools family starts here. The Machine Frame is the housing that tech machines are built around. It does nothing on its own, but it's a ubiquitous crafting ingredient. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.[7][10]

The Machine Base is the slimmer sibling. It also does nothing on its own, but the machines made from it are a quarter of a block high and usually have some form of redstone input or output. This recipe is also changed by the pack.[6][10]

Third step: Dimensional Shards
The Dimensional Shard is the key material of the mod. Dimensional Shard Ore generates underground in small clusters in various dimensions, and Fortune affects its drops. Shards go into several more complicated recipes and can also be used to infuse machines.[4]
In this pack you can also craft shards, using a recipe the pack has changed from the default. Check the recipe below if you'd rather build them than mine them.[10]

Shards then feed two refined materials. The Infused Diamond recipe is changed by the pack, while the Infused Enderpearl recipe is the mod's own.[10]

Final step: the Machine Infuser
The Machine Infuser uses Dimensional Shards to improve the efficiency of a lot of machines. For most things, infusing reduces their power requirements, and some devices get extra benefits too. You can even infuse the Infuser itself so it uses less power. The pack changed its recipe, and it needs both a shard and a Machine Frame, so get the earlier steps done first.[5][10]

The Infuser also works on machines from other RFTools mods when they're installed. Examples include the Builder and Shield Projector from RFTools Builder, and the Dimensional Cell from RFTools Power.[5]
Useful extras
- Information Screen: a small screen you put next to a machine. It shows energy information by default, and a wrench toggles the display mode if the attached machine supports it. The pack changed its recipe, which uses a Machine Base.[10][13]
- Filter Module: modules are items you insert into machines that support them, usually by right-clicking the machine with the module. The pack changed this recipe.[10][17]

How does RFTools Base work with other mods?
3 parts
RFTools Base is mostly a supplier. It provides the Machine Frame, the Machine Base and the Dimensional Shard, and the other mods in the family build on those. The in-game guide describes it as the base mod for the RFTools family, plus Deep Resonance and XNet. In the pack's recipes, the links to other mods come from RFTools Builder, RFTools Power and XNet, and the pack has edited a lot of those recipes.[3][7][10]
The Machine Frame is a housing that does nothing on its own, and the Machine Base is a flatter variant, a quarter of a block high, for machines with redstone input or output. Both turn up as the core ingredient in nearly every recipe below.[6][7]
RFTools Builder
The Builder is the clearest case of the pack changing things. Its recipe is added by the pack itself and asks for allthemodium nuggets alongside the Machine Frame. In-game, the Builder can quarry, build, pump, and collect XP and items, with a shape card controlling what it does.[10][34]

This recipe is added by the pack.
The Mover Control, Mover Status, Vehicle Builder and Shield Projector Tier 1 recipes are all marked as changed by the pack. The Mover, Mover Controller and Space Chamber keep the mod's own recipes. Several of these use vanilla rails, comparators and repeaters alongside the Machine Frame.[10]
Dimensional Shards also gate the upgrades. The Fortune and Silk quarry shape cards, and the steps from Shield Projector Tier 2 to Tier 3 and then Tier 4, all need a shard along with vanilla items. The Tier 4 shield and the Silk quarry card also ask for a nether star, and the Fortune quarry card asks for a ghast tear.[10]

RFTools Power
RFTools Power is the mod that leans on RFTools Base the most. These recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so don't assume mod defaults apply:[10]
- Storage: Powercell (Low), Dimensional Cell, Dimensional Cell (Simple) and Dimensional Cell (Advanced). The Advanced cell is built from the regular Dimensional Cell plus an Infused Diamond.[10]
- Power cores: Power Core (Medium) and Power Core (High), which need a Dimensional Shard.[10]
- Generation: Blazing Generator (uses an Infused Diamond), Endergenic (uses an Infused Enderpearl) and Pearl Injector.[10]
- Monitoring: Power Monitor, Power Level and Ender Monitor. All three are built on the Machine Base instead of the Machine Frame.[10]
The Coal Generator, Blazing Agitator and Blazing Infuser still use the mod's own recipes. The Blazing Infuser itself needs a Dimensional Shard.[10]

The Machine Infuser, which comes from RFTools Base, also reaches into this mod. It uses Dimensional Shards to improve machines, usually lowering their power use. The guide lists the Coal Generator, Endergenic, Dimensional Cell, Blazing Agitator and Blazing Generator as machines you can infuse, each with its own bonus.[1][5]
The Blazing Infuser has its own catalyst list, and vanilla items are on it: redstone, glowstone, quartz, nether stars and ghast tears all change the power and time of a full stack. A nether star gives 120% more power and 120% more time, and a ghast tear gives 80% more of each. Dimensional Shards give 60% more of each.[26]
XNet
XNet is also built on RFTools Base. The pack has changed the recipes for the Controller, Redstone Proxy, Router and Wireless Router, and all of them use a Machine Frame. The guide describes the Router as the way to connect multiple networks.[3][10][32]
