What is Refined Storage?
All the Mods 10 4.10 includes Refined Storage at version 2.0.0-beta.10, shipped as the NeoForge file refinedstorage-neoforge-2.0.0-beta.10.jar. That makes it a beta build, so expect it to behave like the pack's own copy and not necessarily like other versions you see in older guides.[1]
The mod was first included in All the Mods 10 2.43 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a good while.[1]
The sources I have for this page only cover the version and file details above. They do not describe the mod's features, its recipes in this pack, or its place in the quest book, so I am leaving those out here rather than guess.[1]
How do you get started with Refined Storage?
5 parts
Refined Storage is built around one network: a power source, cables, and devices hanging off it. Nearly every recipe you will craft early on leans on Quartz Enriched Iron, so that is where you start.[2][3]
First: get Quartz Enriched Iron
Quartz Enriched Iron is used in the recipe for your first storage part, for storage disks and for the Autocrafter. This pack has a changed recipe that turns Quartz Enriched Iron Essence into the ingot, shown below.[2]

This recipe is changed by the pack.
Next: build the network backbone
Controllers provide the network with energy, and Cable connects devices to each other. You can also place devices directly against each other. Cable is made with Quartz Enriched Copper rather than the iron version.[2][3]

Then: add a Grid and storage
A Grid lets you interact with your storage, and a Disk Drive holds your storage disks. A disk only does something once it sits in a Disk Drive. Fluids work the same way with Fluid Storage Disks.[3]
A disk starts as a storage part. The 1k part is the entry point because it does not need an earlier part.[2]

After that: grow your capacity
Bigger parts are built from the previous tier. The 4k Storage Part starts from a 1k part and a Basic Processor. The 16k and 64k parts continue the chain with an Improved Processor and an Advanced Processor respectively. Fluid parts follow the same idea, from 64B up to 4096B.[2]

Finally: look ahead to autocrafting
Once storage is sorted, the next goal is an Autocrafter. It automates crafting using patterns created in a Pattern Grid. It is a more expensive craft, so save it for later.[2][3]

How does Refined Storage work?
7 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Refined Storage is a storage network: Controllers give the network energy, and the devices you attach to it each do one job. You connect them with Cable or by placing them against each other. Here is how the pieces work together in this pack.[4]
Power and the Controller
You can use one or several Controllers to provide your network with energy. If a Controller is switched off by its redstone mode, the network can't use it as an energy source. The pack raises controller.energyCapacity to 50,000, up from the mod default of 1,000, so a Controller holds far more than in a plain install.[4][5]
Every device draws its own energy, and the pack leaves these at the mod defaults. Cables cost nothing (cable.energyUsage is 0), so the cost comes from the devices you attach. A few examples:[5]
- Disk Drive: a base of 10 (diskDrive.energyUsage) plus 4 for each disk inside (diskDrive.energyUsagePerDisk).[5]
- Autocrafter: a base of 4 (autocrafter.energyUsage) plus 2 for each pattern it holds (autocrafter.energyUsagePerPattern).[5]
- Grid: 10 (grid.energyUsage).[5]
- Crafting Grid: 14 (craftingGrid.energyUsage).[5]
- Pattern Grid: 14 (patternGrid.energyUsage).[5]
- Network Transmitter: 32 (networkTransmitter.energyUsage).[5]
- Network Receiver: 8 (networkReceiver.energyUsage).[5]
- Importer: 2 (importer.energyUsage) and Exporter: 2 (exporter.energyUsage).[5]
- Constructor: 3 (constructor.energyUsage) and Destructor: 3 (destructor.energyUsage).[5]
Connecting the network
You can link devices with Cable, or simply place devices directly against each other. A Relay lets you switch whole sections of the network on or off and start new branches. Each side of a Relay costs 8 (relay.inputNetworkEnergyUsage and relay.outputNetworkEnergyUsage).[4][5]
If you don't want a cable run, a Network Transmitter, a Network Receiver and a Network Card can add components to your network without cables.[4]
Storage: disks, drives and blocks
Items and fluids are stored on Storage Disks and Fluid Storage Disks, which live in a Disk Drive. Storage Blocks and Fluid Storage Blocks are also part of the pack, and each tier draws its own energy:[4][5]
- 1k Storage Block: 2 (storageBlock.1kEnergyUsage).[5]
- 4k Storage Block: 4 (storageBlock.4kEnergyUsage).[5]
- 16k Storage Block: 6 (storageBlock.16kEnergyUsage).[5]
- 64k Storage Block: 8 (storageBlock.64kEnergyUsage).[5]
- 64B Fluid Storage Block: 2 (fluidStorageBlock.64bEnergyUsage).[5]
- 256B Fluid Storage Block: 4 (fluidStorageBlock.256bEnergyUsage).[5]
- 1024B Fluid Storage Block: 6 (fluidStorageBlock.1024bEnergyUsage).[5]
- 4096B Fluid Storage Block: 8 (fluidStorageBlock.4096bEnergyUsage).[5]
- The creative storage block uses 16 (storageBlock.creativeEnergyUsage), and so does the creative fluid storage block (fluidStorageBlock.creativeEnergyUsage).[5]
Each storage has an access mode. Insert/extract lets the network do both. Extract-only means the network can only take resources out. Insert-only means it can only put resources in, though the contents still show up in a Grid.[4]
Higher tiers are built from the tier below. For example, the 16k Storage Part is crafted from the 4k Storage Part, and the 1024B Fluid Storage Part from the 256B Fluid Storage Part. If you already have a Storage Housing, you can turn a part into a finished disk without the full disk recipe. Here are the 1k examples:[6]

Moving resources in and out
- Importer: brings resources from a target inventory into the network. Its filter can work as an allowlist or a blocklist.[4]
- Exporter: pulls the filtered resources out of the network.[4]
- Interface: imports and exports at the same time.[4]
- Constructor: places blocks from the network into the world.[4]
- Destructor: breaks blocks in the world and sends them into the network. Its filter can allow or block specific blocks.[4]
- Disk Interface: transfers resources between the network and storage disks, in either direction depending on its transfer mode, with its own allowlist or blocklist filter.[4]
- External Storage: lets the network use a block such as a chest as storage.[4]
- Detector: uses redstone to check for a resource in the network.[4]
- Storage Monitor: lets you view, insert or extract resources.[4]
Filters have a fuzzy mode. With it off, the filter must match exactly. With it on, the filter ignores components.[4]
Autocrafting
You create patterns in a Pattern Grid and store them in Autocrafters. For processing patterns, the input slots are what gets extracted from the network into the target inventory. The output slots are what must come back for the task to count as successful. In the Pattern Grid, fuzzy mode lets pattern inputs use alternatives.[4]
If one Autocrafter faces another, they form a chain, so more patterns can feed a single machine. The Autocrafter Manager gathers your patterns in one interface. An Autocrafter only shows up there if you enable its visibility option. The manager can search pattern inputs, pattern outputs or Autocrafter names. This pack sets autocrafterManager.searchMode to ALL and autocrafterManager.viewType to VISIBLE.[4][5]
An Autocrafting Upgrade in an Interface, Exporter or Constructor makes that device autocraft resources on demand. The upgrade costs 8 (upgrade.autocraftingUpgradeUsage). An Autocrafting Monitor shows task progress. autocraftingNotification is on in this pack, and the preview screen can notify you when a task finishes.[4][5]
Upgrades, range and wireless
Upgrades improve various devices, and each one has its own energy cost in this pack's config:[4][5]
- Speed Upgrade: 4 (upgrade.speedUpgradeEnergyUsage).[5]
- Range Upgrade: 8 (upgrade.rangeUpgradeEnergyUsage), with a range of 8 (upgrade.rangeUpgradeRange).[5]
- Stack Upgrade: 16 (upgrade.stackUpgradeEnergyUsage).[5]
- Regulator Upgrade: 16 (upgrade.regulatorUpgradeEnergyUsage).[5]
- Silk Touch Upgrade: 16 (upgrade.silkTouchUpgradeEnergyUsage).[5]
- Fortune I Upgrade: 10 (upgrade.fortune1UpgradeEnergyUsage).[5]
- Fortune II Upgrade: 12 (upgrade.fortune2UpgradeEnergyUsage).[5]
- Fortune III Upgrade: 14 (upgrade.fortune3UpgradeEnergyUsage).[5]
Wireless devices carry their own energy, and the pack keeps the mod defaults for them. A Portable Grid reads disks without needing a storage network.[4][5]
- Wireless Grid: a capacity of 1,000 (wirelessGrid.energyCapacity), and 5 to open it (wirelessGrid.openEnergyUsage).[5]
- Wireless Autocrafting Monitor: a capacity of 1,000 (wirelessAutocraftingMonitor.energyCapacity), and 5 to open it (wirelessAutocraftingMonitor.openEnergyUsage).[5]
- Portable Grid: a capacity of 1,000 (portableGrid.energyCapacity), and 5 to open it (portableGrid.openEnergyUsage).[5]
- Wireless Transmitter: a base range of 16 (wirelessTransmitter.baseRange).[5]
Security and Grids
An active Security Manager blocks all operations on the network by default. You then add Security Cards to permit or deny specific operations for each player.[4]
In a Grid, you can search by mod with '@', by tag with '#' and by tooltip with '$'. This pack sorts by QUANTITY (grid.sortingType), in ASCENDING order (grid.sortingDirection), and shows ALL resources (grid.viewType).[4][5]
How do you progress through Refined Storage?
5 parts
Refined Storage progression in this pack is a ladder of parts, and the key material at every rung is Quartz Enriched Iron. The storage parts, disks, blocks and autocrafting items below all use it. Cables use Quartz Enriched Copper instead.[2]
Unverified I couldn't find any quests in this pack that involve Refined Storage, so there is no quest-guided path. The tiers below follow the in-pack recipes instead.
Start here: Quartz Enriched Iron
The pack changed how you can get Quartz Enriched Iron: there is a pack recipe that makes it from its Mystical Agriculture essence. Here is the exact in-pack recipe.[2]

Item storage tiers
Item storage goes 1k, 4k, 16k, then 64k. The first part is crafted from base materials, and each later part upgrades the one before it. The processor you need goes up with the tier.[2]
- 1k Storage Part: the entry tier. It needs no earlier part and no processor.[2]
- 4k Storage Part: upgrades the 1k part and needs a Basic Processor.[2]
- 16k Storage Part: upgrades the 4k part and needs an Improved Processor.[2]
- 64k Storage Part: upgrades the 16k part and needs an Advanced Processor.[2]

A typical upgrade step: the previous part plus the next processor tier.
Every part can become a portable disk or a placeable block. A disk can be crafted with glass, or by combining the part with a Storage Housing. A block adds a Machine Casing. Here are the 1k versions.[2]
- 1k Storage Disk has a shaped recipe and a shapeless one that uses a Storage Housing.[2]
- 1k Storage Block is the block form of the same part.[2]
Fluid storage tiers
Fluid storage follows the same pattern with 64B, 256B, 1024B and 4096B parts. The processor tiers match the item ladder, and each part recipe also uses an empty bucket.[2]
- 64B Fluid Storage Part: the entry tier.[2]
- 256B Fluid Storage Part: upgrades the 64B part with a Basic Processor.[2]
- 1024B Fluid Storage Part: upgrades the 256B part with an Improved Processor.[2]
- 4096B Fluid Storage Part: upgrades the 1024B part with an Advanced Processor.[2]

How does Refined Storage work with other mods?
4 parts
Refined Storage doesn't stand alone in this pack. The in-pack recipes tie it to Cable Tiers, Extra Disks, Advanced Peripherals and Mekanism. Many of these recipes build on Refined Storage parts such as the Advanced Processor.[2]
Cable Tiers: Elite and Ultra cables
Cable Tiers adds Elite and Ultra versions of the Refined Storage Autocrafter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Exporter and Importer. The pack changed all of these recipes. An Elite version is made from the normal block, an Advanced Processor and an iron storage block. An Ultra version is made from the Elite one, an Advanced Processor and a diamond storage block.[2]
For example, the Elite Exporter is built from the regular Exporter, and you then upgrade it to the Ultra Exporter.[2]

The Ultra tier is crafted from the Elite one, and the pack changed this recipe too.
Advanced Peripherals: the RS Bridge
The RS Bridge is the Advanced Peripherals block that uses Refined Storage parts. The pack changed its recipe. It uses the Peripheral Casing, an Advanced Processor and an Interface. It also needs an exporter, an external storage and an importer, and each of those can be any item from the matching Refined Storage tag.[2]

Extra Disks: bigger storage
Extra Disks adds item, fluid and chemical storage parts, disks and blocks with larger capacities. Many of its recipes use Refined Storage materials like Quartz Enriched Iron and the Improved Processor.[2]
- Item parts chain upward. The 256k Storage Part starts from a 64k Storage Part, and the 1024k Storage Part uses the 256k tier.[2]
- Some of the highest parts, such as the 1048m Storage Part, need a Withering Processor.[2]
- The Advanced Machine Casing and Advanced Storage Housing are crafted from Refined Storage components. The casing is used in the Extra Disks storage blocks.[2]
- You can upgrade existing storage. The 1024k Storage Disk and 1024k Storage Block each have an upgrade recipe that takes lower-tier Refined Storage disks or blocks.[2]
The pack also changed the recipe for the Raw Withering Processor. It is shapeless and starts from a Processor Binding, with redstone dust, a nether star and silicon.[2]
Crafting Shapeless

Mekanism: chemical storage
Chemical storage ties Extra Disks to Mekanism. The pack changed the chemical part and disk recipes. The parts use Atomic Alloy and osmium ingots, and the disks use osmium ingots too. The 65536B Chemical Storage Part also needs an 8192B Chemical Storage Part, so that is where your chemical chain starts.[2]

Which Refined Storage config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Good news: the Refined Storage config in this pack is almost entirely stock. Only one value in the file is flagged as changed from the mod default, and it's the one you'll notice first when you build your first network.[5]
The one value the pack changed
controller.energyCapacity is set to 50,000 in this pack. The mod default is 1,000. So the controller can hold far more energy than you'd get in a stock install.[5]
Energy usage is all at mod defaults
Every other energy setting matches the mod default, so you can plan your power budget from these numbers. Cables are free: cable.energyUsage is 0. Here are the ones you'll likely run into early:[5]
- diskDrive.energyUsage is 10, plus diskDrive.energyUsagePerDisk at 4 for each disk.[5]
- grid.energyUsage is 10, while craftingGrid.energyUsage and patternGrid.energyUsage are both 14.[5]
- autocrafter.energyUsage is 4, plus autocrafter.energyUsagePerPattern at 2 for each pattern.[5]
- importer.energyUsage and exporter.energyUsage are both 2.[5]
- Storage blocks scale with size: storageBlock.1kEnergyUsage is 2, storageBlock.4kEnergyUsage is 4, storageBlock.16kEnergyUsage is 6 and storageBlock.64kEnergyUsage is 8.[5]
Wireless and range settings
wirelessTransmitter.baseRange is 16 and upgrade.rangeUpgradeRange is 8, both at mod default.[5]
The handheld energy buffers are unchanged too: wirelessGrid.energyCapacity is 1,000, wirelessAutocraftingMonitor.energyCapacity is 1,000 and portableGrid.energyCapacity is 1,000. The controller is the only energy buffer the pack boosted.[5]
Interface options
The file also holds display and behavior settings. The pack leaves the grid sorting on grid.sortingType = QUANTITY with grid.sortingDirection = ASCENDING, and grid.viewType = ALL. screenSize is STRETCH with maxRowsStretch at 256.[5]
smoothScrolling, grid.detailedTooltip and autocraftingNotification are on. searchBoxAutoSelected, grid.rememberSearchQuery and grid.largeFont are off. craftingGrid.craftingMatrixCloseBehavior is NONE, so closing a crafting grid doesn't clear the matrix to the network or your inventory.[5]
What changed in Refined Storage between versions?
Every Refined Storage entry in the All the Mods 10 changelogs is just a version change. They don't say what changed inside the mod, so this section is a timeline of when the mod was added and updated.[7][8][9][10]
- All the Mods 10 2.43: Refined Storage was added to the pack.[10]
- All the Mods 10 4.5: Refined Storage was updated.[9]
- All the Mods 10 4.6: Refined Storage was updated again.[8]
- All the Mods 10 4.7: Refined Storage was updated to 2.0.0-beta.10.[7]
All the Mods 10 4.10 ships Refined Storage 2.0.0-beta.10, the same version that arrived in 4.7. The jar is refinedstorage-neoforge-2.0.0-beta.10.jar. The 4.10 mod list also says the mod was first included in 2.43 or earlier, which matches the changelog entry above.[1][7][10]
Unverified The mod's own changelogs for the shipped jars are not stored here, so the specific features, fixes, recipe changes or config changes in each Refined Storage release are unverified. Check the Refined Storage release notes for the exact version if you need that detail.
