Refined Types is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 1.21.1-0.3.2. Adds support for Energy, Ars Nouveau and Industrial Foregoing Souls to Refined Storage (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Refined Types?

2 parts

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It lets your storage network handle three extra resource types: FE (energy), Source from Ars Nouveau, and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls. You can store them, transfer them, view them and autocraft with them in various Refined Storage components, the same way you already do with items and fluids.[1][2]

This pack ships Refined Types 1.21.1-0.3.2, and it has been in the pack since version 4.6 or earlier.[3]

Who it's for

It's for you if you already run a Refined Storage network and want your energy, Source and souls in it too, instead of in separate tanks and buffers. If you're not using Ars Nouveau or Industrial Foregoing Souls yet, the Source and Soul parts won't do much for you.[1]

Watch out: The project page lists Mana from Botania as planned, not currently supported. Don't count on it being in your network.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The Refined Storage questline introduces these as extra storage types in the quest "Other Storage Parts" quest. It says that on top of items and fluids you can store Chemicals through the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod, and Energy, Source and Souls through Refined Types. The quest's tasks include 64K Energy Storage Part, 64B Source Storage Part and 1K Soul Storage Part.[2]

The Industrial Foregoing chapter has a second entry, "Soul Storage?" quest, which asks for the 1K Soul Storage Part. It unlocks after the Industrial Foregoing Souls quest, so it's a natural next step once you're collecting souls.[4]

Tip: When you set up soul storage, put a Regulator Upgrade on the Exporter. Without it, the Exporter can dump all your souls into the connected Soul Pipe.[4]

Unverified Whether Refined Types is part of the ATM Star path is not confirmed by the sources, and no in-jar guidebook was found for this mod.

How do you get started with Refined Types?

3 parts

Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It lets your storage network hold Energy (FE), Source and Souls, not just items and fluids. In this pack, the Refined Storage quest chapter introduces it in the quest "Other Storage Parts" quest.[1][2]

First: pick a resource and make its starter storage part

That quest asks for three starter parts, one per resource: 64K Energy Storage Part for Energy, 64B Source Storage Part for Source, and 1K Soul Storage Part for Souls. You don't need all three right away, so start with whichever resource you actually produce. The pack changed all three recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[2][5]

Next: turn the part into a disk or a block

The storage part is the key ingredient in the matching disk and storage block recipes. The pack changed these recipes too. Here is the first Soul tier as an example, and the higher tiers use the same part-to-disk and part-to-block pattern.[5]

Once you have a disk, put it in your Disk Drive. The mod's own advancements ask for exactly that: craft an Energy, Source or Soul Storage Disk and place it in a Disk Drive.[6]

Later: upgrade as you grow

  • Disks and blocks can be upgraded to a higher tier by combining them with a storage part of the same resource type.[6]
  • If a disk is empty, use it while holding it to get the storage part back. An empty block gives back the part and the Machine Casing.[6]
  • The Network Energizer automatically consumes stored Energy from Energy Disks in the network to maintain it. When it is inactive, no Energy from the disks is consumed to sustain the network.[6]
Tip: When you set up Souls, use a Regulator Upgrade so the Exporter doesn't dump all your souls into the connected Soul Pipe. The quest "Soul Storage?" quest in the Industrial Foregoing chapter gives the same advice.[4][6]

How does Refined Types work?

5 parts

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It teaches Refined Storage's components to handle FE, Source from Ars Nouveau, and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls. That covers storage, transfer, viewing and autocrafting. Mana from Botania is listed as planned, so don't count on it yet.[1]

Storage disks and the Disk Drive

The basic idea is simple. You craft an Energy, Soul or Source Storage Disk and put it in a Disk Drive on your network. The mod's own advancements for each resource type describe it exactly that way.[6]

Each disk's tooltip shows how much it stores. Disks are upgradeable: combine one with a higher-tier storage part of the same resource. An empty disk can also be used while holding it to get its storage part back.[6]

Storage blocks

Each resource also comes as a storage block, such as the 64K Energy Storage Block, the 64B Source Storage Block or the 1K Soul Storage Block. Blocks upgrade the same way as disks, by combining them with a higher-tier part. An empty block can be used while holding it to return both its storage part and the Machine Casing.[6]

The tiers are part of the item names. Soul blocks run from the 1K Soul Storage Block up to the 2097152K Soul Storage Block. Energy blocks include the 64K Energy Storage Block through the 1048576K Energy Storage Block. Source blocks include the 64B Source Storage Block through the 1048576B Source Storage Block.[5]

There are also infinite versions of the disks and blocks for Energy, Soul and Source, which store an infinite amount. Creative versions come with an infinite amount already stored.[6]

Crafting the blocks in this pack

The pack changes the storage block recipes. Here are examples for an Energy block and a Source block, rendered exactly as they work in this pack.[5]

Network Energizer

The Network Energizer automatically consumes stored Energy from Energy Disks within the network to maintain the network. Its redstone mode matters here. While the device is inactive, the storage network won't consume any Energy from Energy Disks to sustain itself.[6]

Tip: Exporting Souls into a connected soul pipe can drain everything you have stored. The mod's own tip is to add a Regulator Upgrade to the exporter to stop it dumping all your souls at once.[6]

What isn't confirmed

Unverified The mod has per-tier config options for how much energy or Source each Energy and Source Storage Block uses, but the pack ships no config files for it. The actual values, what exactly 'usage' means, and the exact capacity of each tier can't be confirmed from the available sources.

How do you progress through Refined Types?

4 parts

Refined Types adds Energy, Source and Soul storage to Refined Storage. Progression is a ladder of tiers for each resource, and the quests only get you onto the first rung of each.[2]

What the quests cover

The Refined Storage chapter has the quest "Other Storage Parts" quest. It unlocks after an earlier quest in that chapter and asks for three parts: 64K Energy Storage Part, 64B Source Storage Part and 1K Soul Storage Part. It also asks for a chemical part from the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod. The quest text says that Energy, Source and Souls can be stored thanks to Refined Types.[2]

The Industrial Foregoing chapter has "Soul Storage?" quest, which asks for the 1K Soul Storage Part again. It unlocks after the Industrial Foregoing Souls quest.[4]

Tip: The Soul Storage quest suggests using a Regulator Upgrade to stop the Exporter from dumping all your souls into the connected Soul Pipe.[4]

The quests shown here only ask for those first parts. Anything above the starting tier is up to you.[2][4]

Starting recipes

Every Refined Types recipe shown in the pack's recipe dump is marked as changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the standalone mod. These are the three entry-level parts:[5]

The tier ladders

Each resource has its own ladder of tiers. The block and disk recipes for a tier each use the part of that same tier.[5]

Disks and blocks

Tiers can be turned into storage disks and storage blocks. Here is the 64K Energy tier as an example of the pattern:[5]

The Infinite tier has block recipes too, for example Infinite Soul Storage Block, and each one uses the matching Infinite part.[5]

How does Refined Types work with other mods?

3 parts

Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage, so almost everything it does ties back to other mods. It lets Refined Storage handle Energy (FE), Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls, covering storage, transfer, viewing and autocrafting.[1]

Refined Storage

Refined Storage is the backbone of the recipes in this mod. There are Source, Energy and Soul lines of storage parts. The disk recipes combine a Refined Storage Storage Housing with the matching part, and the storage block recipes use a Machine Casing. In this pack the block recipes were changed, so don't rely on the mod's defaults.[5]

Moving up the part chain also needs Refined Storage processors, and the tier rises with capacity. Smaller upgrades use the Basic Processor, mid-range ones use the Improved Processor, and the bigger ones use the Advanced Processor. For example, the Soul line moves from the Improved to the Advanced Processor at 512K Soul Storage Part.[5]

The Network Energizer also builds on Refined Storage: its recipe starts from an Interface, and the pack changed this recipe.[5]

Tip: The quest "Other Storage Parts" quest introduces this mod's parts. It says that on top of items and fluids, Refined Storage can store Chemicals through the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod, and Energy, Source and Souls through Refined Types.[2]

Ars Nouveau

Source storage is the Ars Nouveau link. The first part in that line, 64B Source Storage Part, is crafted with Magebloom Fiber, and the pack changed this recipe. The larger Source parts then build upward from it, each step taking the previous part together with a Refined Storage processor.[5]

Industrial Foregoing

Soul storage comes from Industrial Foregoing Souls. The quest "Soul Storage?" quest asks you to obtain a 1K Soul Storage Part, and its text says Industrial Foregoing's developer didn't intend Souls to be something you store, but this addon makes it possible.[1][4]

Tip: The quest suggests using a Regulator Upgrade so the Exporter doesn't dump all your souls into the connected Soul Pipe.[4]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Refined Types?

3 parts

Refined Types appears in the Refined Storage chapter and the Industrial Foregoing chapter of the quest book. Both quests are about the extra storage parts the mod adds to Refined Storage.[2][4]

Refined Storage chapter

The quest "Other Storage Parts" quest unlocks after a quest in "Refined Storage". Its text explains that Refined Storage can store Chemicals thanks to the Refined Storage - Mekanism Integration mod, and that Refined Types lets you store Energy, Source and Souls as well.[2]

The quest asks for a chemical storage part from the Mekanism integration, plus the Refined Types parts: the 64K Energy Storage Part, the 64B Source Storage Part and the 1K Soul Storage Part.[2]

Industrial Foregoing chapter

The quest "Soul Storage?" quest comes after the Souls quest in the same chapter. Its only task is the 1K Soul Storage Part. The quest text says Buuz135, the developer of Industrial Foregoing, didn't want Souls to be a resource you store, and that Ultramega makes it storable anyway.[4]

Tip: If you export souls into a Soul Pipe, use a Regulator Upgrade. The quest says it stops the Exporter from dumping all your souls into the connected Soul Pipe.[4]

Suggested order

  1. Finish the Souls quest in the Industrial Foregoing chapter, which is the prerequisite for the Soul Storage quest.[4]
  2. Hand in the soul storage part for "Soul Storage?" quest.[4]
  3. Once the earlier Refined Storage quest is done, finish "Other Storage Parts" quest by submitting the storage parts it lists.[2]
