What is IceAndFire Community Edition?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Ice and Fire Community Edition is an unofficial fork of the original Ice and Fire mod. It brings optimizations, new content and rewrites. It keeps everything from the original except the myrmex series, and it adds netherite-related content. The pack has included it since version 4.0 or earlier.[1][2]
The pack's quest chapter calls dragons the most dangerous and important monsters in the mod. It says you will need to find, kill and even tame some of them to get some of the best loot in the pack.[3]
Where the quest book puts it
The pack gives the mod its own chapter, called "Ice and Fire". The chapter opens with the "Rotten Egg" quest quest, followed by "Dragons and their Stages" quest, and the dragon quests branch from that one. The Ice Dragon quest "Stage 4-5 Ice Dragon" quest and the Lightning Dragon quest "Stage 4-5 Lightning Dragon" quest both come after it. The chain quest comes after the "Taming Ice and Fire Mobs" quest.[3]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown by the sources here. Check the pack's quest book to see how the Ice and Fire chapter connects to the rest of the quests.
Dragons and how they scale
A dragon's element decides which biome it spawns in. Dragons come in stages 1 through 5, and the stage sets their health, damage, drops and spawns. Stages 1-3 spawn in roosts, while stages 4 and 5 spawn in caves. Only stages 4 and 5 drop eggs. A good first step is to find deceased dragons and collect their Dragon Bone.[3]
A stage 4 or 5 dragon only might drop an egg. The quests say the dragon must be female, and that you must not have used empty bottles on it.[3]
Other things to try
- Chickens will sometimes lay a Rotten Egg. Throw it to hatch a baby cockatrice, which is tamed automatically and needs time to grow up.[3]
- The Chain Line ties to mobs, dragons included, so you can move them or restrain them against a wall. It is a much stronger alternative to a lead.[3]
- The Bestiary is the mod's in-game guide, and it starts empty. Put it and some Manuscripts into the Bestiary Lectern and pick the creature you want to learn about. The Manuscripts are used up and the pages are added to your guide.[3]
How do you get started with IceAndFire Community Edition?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Ice and Fire is all about monsters, and the big prize is dragons. You don't need to fight anything yet, though. Start with the in-game guide, then work toward taming and dragon gear. Here's the order I'd go in.[3]
Step one: make your Bestiary and Lectern
The quest "In game Guide" quest points you at the Bestiary and the Bestiary Lectern. The Bestiary is the mod's guide book, and it starts out empty. You put it into the Lectern together with Manuscript items, pick a creature, and the manuscripts get used up to add pages. The mod's advancements say manuscripts are found in dungeons, so keep an eye out for them while exploring.[3][4]

Step two: grab a free pet
Chickens will sometimes lay a Rotten Egg. Throw it and a baby cockatrice hatches that is tamed automatically. It will need time to grow up. It's an easy first taste of the mod ("Rotten Egg" quest).[3]
Step three: learn how dragons work
The quest "Dragons and their Stages" quest asks for Dragon Bone. It suggests you look for already-dead dragons first. Dragons come in stages 1 through 5. Stages 1-3 spawn in roosts, stages 4 and 5 spawn in caves, and only 4 and 5 drop eggs. A dragon's element decides which biome it spawns in.[3]
After a kill, the corpse can be stripped with an empty hand for scales, flesh and heart. If you use an empty bottle instead, you get dragon blood. The skeleton left behind gives you bones and the skull the same way.[3]
Step four: craft your dragon-handling tools
Fire dragons can fly after you, and the quests recommend something like Chain Line to stop them escaping. Chain Links tie to mobs, including dragons, and won't break when attached to a wall (a quest in "Ice and Fire"). Make sure the wall is one a dragon can't break.[3]
The mod's advancements describe the other basics. Dragon Meal rapidly grows baby dragons, the Dragon Command Staff controls your dragons, the Dragon Bone Flute stops runaway dragons, and the Dragon Horn stores dragons.[4][5]

Step five: aim for dragonsteel
The mod's advancements describe a dragonsteel ingot as made from dragon blood and iron. The pack changed the recipes for the fire, ice and lightning ingots, so use the recipe below for the in-pack version. Dragonsteel is made in a dragon forge, and the forge needs the correct type of dragon to power it.[4][5]

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work?
6 parts
The big multiblock in this mod doesn't run on generators or cables. The dragon forge is powered by an actual dragon, and it's how you turn dragon materials into dragonsteel. This section covers how the forge works, what dragonsteel gives you in this pack, how to farm pixie dust, and the tools you use to keep your dragons under control.[4]
The Dragon Forge
The dragon forge exists to make dragonsteel. It is built from dragon forge bricks around a dragon forge core, and both have their own advancements, so you'll know when you've crafted the right parts.[4]
- The core is the heart of the forge. All the items you want to process go in there.[4]
- The dragon needs line of sight to a specific block of the structure to power the forge, so position your dragon where it can see that block.[4]
- You need the right type of dragon. A dragon of the wrong type won't power the forge.[4]
- To open the forge's interface, click the block at the center of any face of the structure.[4]
The forge types are separate recipe categories. For example, EMI has a category called Lightning Dragon Forge. The mod supports both EMI and JEI for viewing recipes, so check the recipe viewer to see which forge and dragon a recipe needs before you start building.[1][4]
Unverified The sources don't give the full block-by-block layout of the forge, and they don't say whether hoppers, pipes or other automation can insert items into or extract them from the forge core. Test it in a creative world before planning an automated setup.
Dragonsteel
A dragonsteel ingot is made from dragon blood and iron, and you can then craft dragonsteel weapons from it. In this pack, dragons are set to drop blood, and the heart and skull drops are enabled too, so killing a dragon gets you the raw material.[4][6]
Dragonsteel stats are set in the pack's common config. The base durability is 8,000, the base damage is 45, armor toughness is 16, knockback resistance is 0.25 and enchantability is 130.[6]
- Dragonsteel helmet: 17 armor, 2,760 durability.[6]
- Dragonsteel chestplate: 22 armor, 4,560 durability.[6]
- Dragonsteel leggings: 19 armor, 4,400 durability.[6]
- Dragonsteel boots: 16 armor, 4,080 durability.[6]
Dragon tools keep their elemental effects in this pack. The fire, ice and lightning ability options, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonFireAbility, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonIceAbility and tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonLightningAbility, are all enabled. tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonsteelFireDuration is set to 15, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonBloodFireDuration to 5 and tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonBloodFrozenDuration to 100.[6]
Farming Pixie Dust
To befriend a pixie, drop cake near it. Once you've got one, trap it in a jar and it becomes a farm for Pixie Dust. Keep an eye on your inventory around wild pixies, because pixie.iceandfire.pixie.stealItems is enabled in this pack.[4][6]
One use for the dust is Ambrosia:[7]
Keeping Your Dragons in Line
- Dragon command staff: lets you control your dragons.[4]
- Dragon horn: stores a dragon so you can carry it around.[4]
- Dragon flute: stops runaway dragons. This pack sets dragon.iceandfire.dragon.fluteDistance to 8.[4][6]
- Dragon Meal: rapidly grows baby dragons.[4]
Dragons can break blocks in this pack, because dragon.iceandfire.dragon.griefing is on. dragon.iceandfire.dragon.tamedGriefing is off, though, so your own tamed dragons shouldn't wreck your base. The block-breaking cooldown is set to 5 and the drop chance for broken blocks is 0.1.[6]
A few other pack values are useful when you're raising dragons. dragon.iceandfire.dragon.eggBornTime is 7,200, dragon.iceandfire.dragon.hungerTickRate is 3,000 and dragon.iceandfire.dragon.maxTamedDragonAge is 128.[6]
Dragonscale Armor
Armor crafted from dragonscales gives you increased protection from dragon breath attacks, which makes it a great set to wear while you're getting a forge running. There's a set for each scale color, for example blue:[4][7]
The mod's copper armor is different: All the Mods 10 has changed the recipes for Copper Helmet, Copper Chestplate, Copper Leggings and Copper Boots, so use the in-pack version shown below.[7]

Learning In-Game
For more detail while you play, collect 3 manuscripts from dungeons to create a bestiary, then craft a Bestiary Lectern to learn more about the creatures of Ice and Fire.[4]
How do you progress through IceAndFire Community Edition?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Ice and Fire has its own quest chapter in the pack. It starts with the in-game guide, moves to dragons, and branches into monster-themed gear. You'll work through it in roughly three tiers: learn the basics, take on dragons and the DragonForge, then collect the gear from the other mobs.[3]
Tier 1: Get your guide
The first step is the "In game Guide" quest quest. You need the Bestiary and the Bestiary Lectern. The Bestiary starts out empty. Put it in the lectern together with Manuscript and pick a monster to learn about. That uses up the manuscripts and adds pages to your guide.[3]

Tier 2: Dragons
"Dragons and their Stages" quest is the gateway to everything dragon-related, and its task is a Dragon Bone. Dragons come in Stages 1 to 5. Stages 1-3 spawn in roosts, while Stages 4 and 5 spawn in caves. Only Stage 4 and 5 dragons drop eggs, and the egg must come from a female you didn't use bottles on. The quest text also explains what each stage can do. Stage 1 can only bite, Stage 2 adds elemental breath, and Stage 3 has the full set of attacks.[3]
Each element has two quests. The Stage 1-3 quests ("Stage 1-3 Fire Dragon" quest, "Stage 1-3 Ice Dragon" quest, "Stage 1-3 Lightning Dragon" quest) ask you to harvest dragon blood from a corpse with an empty bottle. The Stage 4-5 quests ("Stage 4-5 Fire Dragon" quest, "Stage 4-5 Ice Dragon" quest, "Stage 4-5 Lightning Dragon" quest) ask for an egg of the matching element.[3]
The DragonForge and dragonsteel
The Fire DragonForge quest ("Fire DragonForge" quest) unlocks after the egg quest "Cooking your Egg". The Lightning DragonForge quest ("Lightning DragonForge" quest) unlocks after "Leave your Egg in the Rain". The forge is a 3x3x3 multiblock built from forge bricks, Block of Dragon Bones corners, a core and an aperture. It needs heat from a dragon, either a tamed one nearby or a wild one chained up next to it. The Ice DragonForge has its own quest too ("Ice DragonForge" quest).[3]

The chain link (Chain Line) is handy for dragons. It ties to a mob and, per the quest, won't break however hard the mob struggles. You can also attach it to a wall to hold a dragon in place.[3]
Tier 3: Monster gear
The rest of the chapter is a set of side branches, each built around a different mob.[3]
- Sea serpents: "Sea Serpent Scales and Fangs" quest leads to "Tide Guardian Armor" quest. The scale color you use decides the armor color, and you can't mix colors. The quest says the set gives 23 armor points, Water Breathing on every piece, and Strength IV for the full set.[3]
- The Other Desert: "Ampitheres" quest leads to "Amphithere Arrows" quest, and "Cockatrice" quest leads to "Cockatrice Specter" quest. The Cockatrice Specter (the quest's spelling) gives some mobs Wither III for 2 seconds, with a range of about 20 blocks and a cooldown.[3]
- Pixies: "Pixies" quest and "Pixie Wand" quest. The pack changes the Pixie Wand recipe from the mod's own.[3][5]
- Hydra: "Hydra Heart" quest gives Regeneration while the heart is in your hotbar. The effect gets stronger the fewer hearts you have.[3]
- Other mobs: the chapter also covers troll leather and weapons ("Troll Leather Armor" quest, "Troll Weapons" quest), the Death Worm Gauntlet ("Death Worm Gauntlet" quest), the Siren Flute ("Siren Flute" quest) and the Hippocampus Slapper ("Hippocampus Slapper" quest).[3]

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work with other mods?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Ice and Fire doesn't live in a bubble in this pack. The recipe data shows it hooked into Farmer's Delight, Productive Bees, Mekanism, Productive Trees, All The Ores and some KubeJS items. Here's every connection I can confirm, and whether it comes from the mod itself or from the pack.[5]
Farmer's Delight: dragon fried rice
Farmer's Delight has a cooking recipe for each dragon type, giving you Fried Rice with Fire Dragon Flesh, Fried Rice with Ice Dragon Flesh and Fried Rice with Lightning Dragon Flesh. These are listed as regular mod recipes, so the pack hasn't touched them.[5]
Cooking (farmersdelight)
Recipe id: iceandfire:delight/cooked_rice_with_fire_dragon_meat

Productive Bees: dragon blood and dragonsteel
This is the biggest crossover, and the pack changed all of it. In the dragonforge, dragon blood combined with a Productive Bees configurable bee gives you the bee back plus Spawn Egg Configurable Bee. There's one recipe each for fire, ice and lightning blood.[5]

The Productive Bees centrifuge also has pack-changed recipes in the Ice and Fire group. The dump lists Honey as the input, and the outputs are a dragonsteel ingot plus the matching dragon blood. For fire that's Fire Dragonsteel Ingot and Fire Dragon Blood. Ice and lightning have their own versions.[5]

All The Ores: nuggets and sapphire
The pack changed several Ice and Fire recipes so they output All The Ores items instead. Smelting or blasting the mod's copper tools and armor, such as the Copper Pickaxe or Copper Helmet, gives you Copper Nugget. The silver gear works the same way and gives Silver Nugget.[5]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use IceAndFire Community Edition?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
The pack's quest book puts Ice and Fire in one chapter called Ice and Fire. It reads mostly as a monster-by-monster tour: creatures get their own quests, and items from them are what the follow-up quests for weapons, arrows and armor ask for. Several quests list prerequisites such as The Other Desert, Ancient Crimson Forest or Cooking your Egg, so some may stay locked until you have done those.[3]
Start with the guide
"In game Guide" quest asks for the Bestiary and the Bestiary Lectern. According to the quest text, the Bestiary starts empty: you put it and some Manuscripts into the lectern and pick a monster, which uses up the Manuscripts and adds pages to your guide.[3]
Dragons and their stages
"Dragons and their Stages" quest is the dragon hub and asks for a Dragon Bone. Its text says dragons have stages 1 through 5, that stages 1 to 3 spawn in roosts and stages 4 and 5 in caves, and that only 4 and 5 drop eggs. The six stage quests below all list it as their prerequisite.[3]
- "Stage 1-3 Fire Dragon" quest, "Stage 1-3 Ice Dragon" quest and "Stage 1-3 Lightning Dragon" quest are the stage 1-3 quests. They ask for Fire Dragon Blood, Ice Dragon Blood and Lightning Dragon Blood respectively.[3]
- "Stage 4-5 Fire Dragon" quest asks for one of these fire dragon eggs: Dragonegg Red, Dragonegg Green, Dragonegg Bronze or Dragonegg Gray.[3]
- "Stage 4-5 Ice Dragon" quest asks for one of these ice dragon eggs: Dragonegg Blue, Dragonegg White, Dragonegg Sapphire or Dragonegg Silver.[3]
- "Stage 4-5 Lightning Dragon" quest asks for one of these lightning dragon eggs: Dragonegg Electric, Dragonegg Amethyst, Dragonegg Copper or Dragonegg Black.[3]
Per the quest text, an egg may drop only from a female stage 4 or 5 dragon, and only if you didn't use empty bottles on it.[3]
Dragon forges and commanding dragons
"Fire DragonForge" quest (Fire DragonForge, after Cooking your Egg) and "Lightning DragonForge" quest (Lightning DragonForge, after Leave your Egg in the Rain) each ask for a Block of Dragon Bones, a forge brick, an aperture and a core. The quest texts describe each forge as a 3x3x3 multiblock. The fire forge is heated by a fire dragon's breath, and the lightning forge is zapped by a lightning dragon's attacks. According to the texts, tamed or wild dragons can be used.[3]
"Commanding your Dragon" quest lists Cooking your Egg, Ice Bucket Challenge! and Leave your Egg in the Rain as prerequisites. It asks for the Dragon Command Staff, Dragon Horn and Dragon Bone Flute. The quest text describes them as a way to give orders to a tamed dragon, carry it around, and call a flying one down.[3]
Other creatures and their loot
- Cockatrice: "Rotten Egg" quest asks for an Rotten Egg, which the quest text says can be thrown to hatch a baby cockatrice. "Cockatrice" quest asks for Witherbone after The Other Desert, then "Cockatrice Specter" quest asks for the Cockatrice Scepter.[3]
- Amphitheres: "Ampitheres" quest asks for an Amphithere Feather. Two quests list it as their prerequisite: "Amphithere Arrows" quest (Amphithere Arrow) and "Amphithere Macuahuitl" quest (Amphithere Macuahuitl).[3]
- Pixies: "Pixies" quest asks for Pixie Dust. Two quests list it as their prerequisite: "Enslavement of Pixies" quest (an empty Jar) and "Pixie Wand" quest (the Pixie Wand).[3]
- Sea serpents: "Sea Serpent Scales and Fangs" quest asks for a Sea Serpent Fang. After it come "Tide Arrows" quest (Tide Arrow) and "Tide Guardian Armor" quest, which accepts any piece of Tide Guardian Armor. The quest text says the armor totals 23 armor points and that a full set gives Strength IV.[3]
- Stymphalian birds: after Stymphalian Birds, "Stmphalian Arrows" quest asks for the Stymphalian Arrow and "Stymphalian Dagger" quest asks for the Stymphalian Bird Dagger.[3]
- Single-item quests: "Hydra Heart" quest (Hydra Heart), "Eye of Cyclops" quest (Eye of Cyclops), "Gorgon Head" quest (Gorgon Head), "Phantasmal Blade" quest (Phantasmal Blade) and "Hippocampus Slapper" quest (Hippocampus Slapper). The Phantasmal Blade quest text says that for now the blade attacks like a normal sword.[3]
Which IceAndFire Community Edition config options matter?
5 parts
Ice and Fire has a big config, but only a handful of options really change how your world plays. Below are the ones worth knowing, with the exact values this pack uses. Most of them live in the common config file, and a few visual ones are in the client config.[6][8]
Dragons
- dragon.iceandfire.dragon.griefing is true, so wild dragons can break blocks. dragon.iceandfire.dragon.tamedGriefing is false, so your own tamed dragons won't.[6]
- dragon.iceandfire.dragon.explosiveBreath is false in this pack.[6]
- dragon.iceandfire.dragon.maxHealth is 1,500 and dragon.iceandfire.dragon.attackDamage is 37, so come prepared before you pick a fight.[6]
- dragon.iceandfire.dragon.canDespawn is true.[6]
- dragon.iceandfire.dragon.eggBornTime is 7,200 and dragon.iceandfire.dragon.maxTamedDragonAge is 128.[6]
- Dragon loot is fully on: dragon.iceandfire.dragon.loot.blood, dragon.iceandfire.dragon.loot.heart and dragon.iceandfire.dragon.loot.skull are all true.[6]
- dragon.iceandfire.dragon.chunkLoadSummonCrystal and dragon.iceandfire.dragon.sleep are both true.[6]
Other griefing and nuisance mobs
- cyclops.iceandfire.cyclops.griefing and seaSerpent.iceandfire.seaSerpent.griefing are both true.[6]
- pixie.iceandfire.pixie.stealItems is true, so keep an eye on your inventory around pixies.[6]
- ghost.iceandfire.ghost.fromPlayerDeaths is true, and troll.iceandfire.troll.dropWeapon is true.[6]
World generation
Every structure chance in the worldgen section is set to 1 in this pack, including worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateFireDragonCaveChance, worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateIceDragonRoostChance, worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateLightningDragonCaveChance, worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateCyclopsCaveChance and worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generatePixieVillageChance. worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.dangerousDistanceLimit is 1,000.[6]
Gear
Dragonsteel is strong here: armors.iceandfire.armors.dragonsteelChestplateArmor is 22, armors.iceandfire.armors.dragonsteelArmorToughness is 16 and armors.iceandfire.armors.dragonSteelBaseDurability is 8,000. The special weapon abilities, such as tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonFireAbility, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonIceAbility, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonLightningAbility and tools.iceandfire.tools.phantasmalBladeAbility, are all true.[6]
Client options
On your side, client.dragonAuto3rdPerson is false, so the camera won't switch to third person for you when you ride a dragon. client.siren.shader is true, and client.customMainMenu is false.[8]
Unverified The sources only show this pack's values, not the mod's defaults, so which of these settings the pack changed from the mod default is unverified.
What changed in IceAndFire Community Edition between versions?
1 part
Ice and Fire Community Edition has been in All the Mods 10 since the pack's 4.0 release, and it has been updated quite a few times since then. It started on a 1.0 beta and is now on the 2.0 beta line.[9][10]
If you're playing All the Mods 10 7.3, you're on a 2.0 beta build of the mod. It's the same build the pack moved to in 7.1, so nothing about this mod changed between 7.1 and 7.3.[10][11]
Updates by pack release
- All the Mods 10 4.0: the mod was added to the pack at version 1.0-beta.9.[9]
- All the Mods 10 4.1: updated from 1.0-beta.9 to the full 1.0 release.[12]
- All the Mods 10 4.5: updated from 1.0 to 1.1.[13]
- All the Mods 10 4.6: updated from 1.1 to 1.1.1.[14]
- All the Mods 10 5.5: updated from 1.1 to the 2.0 beta line. This was the big jump to a new major version.[15]
- All the Mods 10 6.2: updated to a newer 2.0 beta build.[16]
- All the Mods 10 7.0: updated to another 2.0 beta build.[17]
- All the Mods 10 7.1: updated to the 2.0 beta build that is still shipped in 7.3.[10][11]
The pack changelogs don't quite line up here. The 4.6 entry says the mod went from 1.1 to 1.1.1, but the 5.5 entry says the jump to the 2.0 beta line started from 1.1, not 1.1.1.[14][15]
Unverified The pack changelogs only list version numbers. They don't say what changed inside the mod with each update, such as new features, balance changes or bug fixes, and no changelogs from the mod itself are available for these versions.
