What is IceAndFire Community Edition?

1 part

IceAndFire Community Edition is an unofficial, community-maintained fork of the original Ice and Fire mod. It keeps everything from the original mod except the myrmex series, and it adds its own optimizations, rewrites and new content, including some netherite-related additions.[1]

All the Mods 10 4.4 includes version 1.0 of the mod, which is the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 4.0 or earlier.[2]

The mod's in-game guide opens with a note calling it a manuscript on designing supernatural tools and tracking down magical creatures, written for anyone willing to explore mysterious wonders. If you like heading out to find strange creatures and learning about unusual tools, this is the mod for you.[3]

How it plays with other mods

  • Recipe viewing is supported in both Just Enough Items and EMI, so you can look up the mod's crafts in-game.[1]
  • Jade support shows extra information when you point your crosshair at things from the mod.[1]
  • Some of the mod's accessories work with Curios API slots.[1]
  • ProjectE support covers EMC values and Dragon Forge recipe calculation.[1]
  • Ponder support includes a tutorial for the Dragon Forge structure. This feature needs Minecraft 1.21 or newer, and this pack's build is for 1.21.1.[1][2]
Tip: The mod doesn't write a full config file. You change its settings through the client-side config screen in the mod menu, and that requires server operator permission. Biome settings work differently: you change them with biome tags in a datapack.[1]

Unverified The available sources don't show where this mod fits in the pack's progression. They don't mention any quests for it or any link to the ATM Star path.

How do you get started with IceAndFire Community Edition?

4 parts

Welcome to the world of dragons, pixies and other mythical beasts! This mod adds a large set of magical creatures, along with gear made from the parts they drop. The best way into it is to build up your knowledge first, then gear up before you go looking for trouble.[3][4]

Step 1: Get your bestiary

Your first goal is the bestiary, the mod's in-game guide. You create it from 3 manuscripts that you find in dungeons, so keep an eye on loot chests while you explore. Its introduction calls it a guide to designing supernatural tools and tracking down magical creatures, so it's your go-to reference for everything else in this mod.[3][4]

Once you have the bestiary, craft a Bestiary Lectern. It's an advancement goal in its own right and lets you learn more about the world of Ice and Fire.[4]

Unverified The sources don't include the exact bestiary and Bestiary Lectern recipes for this pack. Look them up in your recipe viewer in game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Step 2: Suit up with metal armor

You don't need any creature drops for your first armor. The mod adds a copper armor set, and this pack changed its recipe, so check the in-pack version below rather than an older guide.[5]

There's also a silver armor set, made from silver ingots with the mod's original recipe. Silver Helmet, Silver Leggings and Silver Boots complete the set.[5]

Step 3: Make friends with a pixie

Pixies are one of the gentlest creatures to start with. You can befriend a pixie by dropping cake near it. You can also trap one in a jar to farm its dust.[4]

Pixie Dust has an easy early use: crafting Ambrosia.[5]

Looking ahead: dragonscale armor

Every dragon color has its own full dragonscale armor set. Dragonscale armor gives increased protection from dragon breath attacks, so it's the upgrade to aim for once you're ready to face dragons.[4][5]

Tip: Heading out to hunt a death worm? The mod's own advancement hint says they love to eat TNT![4]

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.3 guide

The big multiblock in this mod doesn't run on generators or cables. The dragon forge is powered by an actual dragon, and it's how you turn dragon materials into dragonsteel. This section covers how the forge works, what dragonsteel gives you in this pack, how to farm pixie dust, and the tools you use to keep your dragons under control.[6]

The Dragon Forge

The dragon forge exists to make dragonsteel. It is built from dragon forge bricks around a dragon forge core, and both have their own advancements, so you'll know when you've crafted the right parts.[6]

  1. The core is the heart of the forge. All the items you want to process go in there.[6]
  2. The dragon needs line of sight to a specific block of the structure to power the forge, so position your dragon where it can see that block.[6]
  3. You need the right type of dragon. A dragon of the wrong type won't power the forge.[6]
  4. To open the forge's interface, click the block at the center of any face of the structure.[6]

The forge types are separate recipe categories. For example, EMI has a category called Lightning Dragon Forge. The mod supports both EMI and JEI for viewing recipes, so check the recipe viewer to see which forge and dragon a recipe needs before you start building.[1][6]

Tip: If you're stuck on the layout, the mod includes a Ponder tutorial for the dragon forge structure on MC 1.21+. Its first scene is titled Use dragon to power dragon forge, and it walks through the core, the block the dragon must see, and how to open the forge.[1][6]

Unverified The sources don't give the full block-by-block layout of the forge, and they don't say whether hoppers, pipes or other automation can insert items into or extract them from the forge core. Test it in a creative world before planning an automated setup.

Dragonsteel

A dragonsteel ingot is made from dragon blood and iron, and you can then craft dragonsteel weapons from it. In this pack, dragons are set to drop blood, and the heart and skull drops are enabled too, so killing a dragon gets you the raw material.[6][7]

Dragonsteel stats are set in the pack's common config. The base durability is 8,000, the base damage is 45, armor toughness is 16, knockback resistance is 0.25 and enchantability is 130.[7]

  • Dragonsteel helmet: 17 armor, 2,760 durability.[7]
  • Dragonsteel chestplate: 22 armor, 4,560 durability.[7]
  • Dragonsteel leggings: 19 armor, 4,400 durability.[7]
  • Dragonsteel boots: 16 armor, 4,080 durability.[7]

Dragon tools keep their elemental effects in this pack. The fire, ice and lightning ability options, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonFireAbility, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonIceAbility and tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonLightningAbility, are all enabled. tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonsteelFireDuration is set to 15, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonBloodFireDuration to 5 and tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonBloodFrozenDuration to 100.[7]

Farming Pixie Dust

To befriend a pixie, drop cake near it. Once you've got one, trap it in a jar and it becomes a farm for Pixie Dust. Keep an eye on your inventory around wild pixies, because pixie.iceandfire.pixie.stealItems is enabled in this pack.[6][7]

One use for the dust is Ambrosia:[8]

Crafting Shapeless

Keeping Your Dragons in Line

Dragons can break blocks in this pack, because dragon.iceandfire.dragon.griefing is on. dragon.iceandfire.dragon.tamedGriefing is off, though, so your own tamed dragons shouldn't wreck your base. The block-breaking cooldown is set to 5 and the drop chance for broken blocks is 0.1.[7]

A few other pack values are useful when you're raising dragons. dragon.iceandfire.dragon.eggBornTime is 7,200, dragon.iceandfire.dragon.hungerTickRate is 3,000 and dragon.iceandfire.dragon.maxTamedDragonAge is 128.[7]

Dragonscale Armor

Armor crafted from dragonscales gives you increased protection from dragon breath attacks, which makes it a great set to wear while you're getting a forge running. There's a set for each scale color, for example blue:[6][8]

8 × Dragonscales Blue

Recipe id: iceandfire:armor_blue_chestplate

The mod's copper armor is different: All the Mods 10 has changed the recipes for Copper Helmet, Copper Chestplate, Copper Leggings and Copper Boots, so use the in-pack version shown below.[8]

Learning In-Game

For more detail while you play, collect 3 manuscripts from dungeons to create a bestiary, then craft a Bestiary Lectern to learn more about the creatures of Ice and Fire.[6]

How do you progress through IceAndFire Community Edition?

4 parts

This mod is gated by what you can hunt, not by a tech tree. Almost every piece of gear is built from a creature drop: dragon scales, death worm chitin, amphithere feathers, cockatrice eyes. Your progression is really a list of monsters you've beaten, and each new kill unlocks a new set of recipes.[5]

Tip: The metal armor and copper tool recipes use common ingot tags, so copper or silver ingots from other mods in the pack work fine. You don't need to hunt for one specific ingot.[5]

Step one: grab the Bestiary

Before you go monster hunting, craft the Bestiary. It's the mod's in-game guide. A note inside the cover describes it as a manuscript of supernatural tool designs and a guide to tracking down magical creatures, so it's the best place to look things up as you go.[3][5]

Early metal gear: copper and silver

Your first gear comes from ordinary metals. The mod adds a full copper toolset: Copper Sword, Copper Pickaxe, Copper Axe, Copper Shovel and Copper Hoe. It also adds a copper armor set starting with the Copper Helmet. This pack has changed the recipes for all of these, so don't rely on an old recipe you remember from another pack. Check the in-pack version below.[5]

Creature gear

Once you start taking on the mod's creatures, their drops turn into gear. Death worms give you chitin in three colours. Each colour makes its own Death Worm Gauntlet variant, which also needs a Death Worm Tongue and a Chain Line. Red chitin can also become Red Death Worm Chitin Boots.[5]

Dragon scale armor

The big prize is dragon scale armor. Every colour of dragon scale has its own full set of helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots, and all of them use the mod's own recipes in this pack. The colour you end up wearing depends on which dragon you bring down.[5]

Crafting Shaped

8 × Dragonscales Red

Recipe id: iceandfire:armor_red_chestplate

Every scale colour follows this same pattern

Tip: If you search for the amethyst set in a recipe viewer by recipe id, note that the ids are spelled "amythest" (for example iceandfire:armor_amythest_helmet), even though the item itself is Armor Amethyst Helmet.[5]

Unverified The sources don't give armor values, durability or damage for any of these sets. They also don't say where each creature spawns, which scale colour comes from which dragon type, or how dragon forges and dragonsteel fit into late-game progression. Check the Bestiary in-game for those details.

How does IceAndFire Community Edition work with other mods?

5 parts

Ice and Fire isn't sealed off in its own dragon-filled corner here. This pack connects it to Farmer's Delight, Productive Bees, Mekanism, Productive Trees, All The Ores and a few custom pack items. Some of these links come with the mod itself and some were added or changed by the pack, so here's what each one does.[5]

Dragon meat on the stove with Farmer's Delight

Ice and Fire includes Farmer's Delight cooking recipes that turn dragon flesh and Rice Crops into a bowl of fried rice. There's one version for each dragon type: Fried Rice with Fire Dragon Flesh, Fried Rice with Ice Dragon Flesh and Fried Rice with Lightning Dragon Flesh. If you've just taken down a dragon and have a pile of Fire Dragon Flesh, Ice Dragon Flesh or Lightning Dragon Flesh, this gives it a use.[5]

Dragonsteel bees with Productive Bees

This one is my favourite. Ice and Fire has Dragonforge recipes that take a Productive Bees configurable bee together with dragon blood (Fire Dragon Blood, Ice Dragon Blood or Lightning Dragon Blood). They output a configurable bee and a Spawn Egg Configurable Bee. The recipe ids name these as fire, ice and lightning dragonsteel bees.[5]

Dragonforge (iceandfire)

On the Productive Bees side there are centrifuge recipes for dragonsteel honeycombs. They produce Fire Dragonsteel Ingot, Ice Dragonsteel Ingot or Lightning Dragonsteel Ingot, plus the matching dragon blood.[5]

Tip: The centrifuge gives dragon blood back along with the dragonsteel, and dragon blood is what the Dragonforge bee recipes use. Once your bees are running, you're not stuck relying only on dragon hunts for blood.[5]

Unverified The sources don't confirm exactly how the bee output from the Dragonforge becomes a working dragonsteel bee, or what the bees need to produce combs. Check in-game recipe viewers for the details. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Sawing Dreadwood

The pack adds sawing recipes so you can process Dreadwood Log into Dreadwood Planks in a Mekanism sawmill, which also gives Sawdust. It adds a similar recipe to the Productive Trees sawmill.[5]

Unified copper, silver and sapphire

The pack changed Ice and Fire's recycling recipes so they fit the rest of the pack. Smelting or blasting any copper armor or copper tool, such as the Copper Pickaxe or Copper Chestplate, gives you an All The Ores Copper Nugget. The silver gear, like the Silver Sword or Silver Helmet, gives an All The Ores Silver Nugget.[5]

A blasting version also exists.

Which IceAndFire Community Edition config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.3 guide

Ice and Fire has a big config, but only a handful of options really change how your world plays. Below are the ones worth knowing, with the exact values this pack uses. Most of them live in the common config file, and a few visual ones are in the client config.[7][9]

Dragons

Other griefing and nuisance mobs

World generation

Every structure chance in the worldgen section is set to 1 in this pack, including worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateFireDragonCaveChance, worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateIceDragonRoostChance, worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateLightningDragonCaveChance, worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generateCyclopsCaveChance and worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.generatePixieVillageChance. worldgen.iceandfire.worldgen.dangerousDistanceLimit is 1,000.[7]

Gear

Dragonsteel is strong here: armors.iceandfire.armors.dragonsteelChestplateArmor is 22, armors.iceandfire.armors.dragonsteelArmorToughness is 16 and armors.iceandfire.armors.dragonSteelBaseDurability is 8,000. The special weapon abilities, such as tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonFireAbility, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonIceAbility, tools.iceandfire.tools.dragonLightningAbility and tools.iceandfire.tools.phantasmalBladeAbility, are all true.[7]

Client options

On your side, client.dragonAuto3rdPerson is false, so the camera won't switch to third person for you when you ride a dragon. client.siren.shader is true, and client.customMainMenu is false.[9]

Unverified The sources only show this pack's values, not the mod's defaults, so which of these settings the pack changed from the mod default is unverified.

What changed in IceAndFire Community Edition between versions?

Ice and Fire has a short history in All the Mods 10. It joined the pack at launch and has had one update since, which took it from beta to a full release.[10][11]

  • All the Mods 10 4.0: Ice And Fire Community Edition was added to the pack at version 1.0-beta.9.[11]
  • All the Mods 10 4.1: the mod was updated from 1.0-beta.9 to 1.0, its first full release rather than a beta.[10]
  • All the Mods 10 4.4: the pack still ships IceAndFire Community Edition 1.0, as the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]

If you're playing on 4.4, you have version 1.0, the same version the pack has shipped since 4.1. So guides and videos made for any pack version from 4.1 onward cover the same build of the mod you're running.[2][10]

Unverified The mod's own changelogs aren't available, so the specific fixes, balance changes or new content between 1.0-beta.9 and 1.0 can't be confirmed here.
