What is Extended AE?
2 parts
Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that makes storage and crafting faster and easier to manage. This pack ships version 1.21-2.2.22 for NeoForge.[1][2]
If you already run an AE2 network and want it to handle more, this mod is for you. It adds bigger and faster versions of familiar AE2 parts, like a 36-slot Pattern Provider and Interface, x8 faster Import and Export Buses, and an Extended Pattern Access Terminal in both wired and wireless versions.[1]
Highlights
- The Assembler Matrix Assembler Matrix Frame is a multiblock autocrafter. Each craft core runs 8 crafting jobs at the same time, and the whole structure saves you channels.[3]
- The Circuit Slicer Circuit Slicer slices material blocks straight into processor prints, making it 9x faster than an inscriber most of the time.[4]
- The ME Canner ME Canner fills containers with fluids by default and can handle gas, mana or energy when the matching addon is installed. It can also empty containers.[5]
- Tag and Mod Export and Storage Buses let you filter by item tag or by mod ID, and the Precise Export Bus exports exact amounts per slot.[1]
- Infinity Cells for Water and Cobblestone give you an endless supply of those basic resources.[1]
- The ME Active Formation Plane ME Active Formation Plane places blocks or drops items on its own, with no subnet needed.[6]
- The Config Modifier Config Modifier edits config inventories in bulk, for example on interfaces.[7]
Where it fits
Most of these devices are too complex for a crafting table. You craft most of them in the Crystal Assembler Crystal Assembler, so that machine is your first goal.[8]
The main ingredient for most Extended AE items and machines is the Entro Crystal Entro Crystal. You get it by creating Budding Entroized Fluix and harvesting the Entro Clusters that grow on it.[9][10]
How do you get started with Extended AE?
3 parts
Extended AE is an Applied Energistics 2 add-on, so you'll want a basic ME network going first. Almost everything in the mod hangs off one material, the Entro Crystal, so your first job is getting a supply of it.[1][10]
Step 1: Get Entro Crystals
Entro Crystal is the main crafting ingredient for most Extended AE items and machines. It grows from Budding Entroized Fluix, which works much like Certus Quartz in AE2. You start by crafting an Entro Seed.[10][11]

Right-click a Fluix Block in the world with the seed and it turns into Budding Entroized Fluix. Then harvest the Entro Cluster that grows on it to collect crystals. The Crystal Assembler can also inject a seed, but that gives a lower-grade budding block than doing it by hand.[10][11][12]
This pack gives you a few extra routes to Entro Crystal. A recipe added by the pack turns Mystical Agriculture's Entro Essence into crystals. The pack has also changed the Fluix Crystal, Entro Dust and water reaction recipe. Both are shown below.[13]

Step 2: Make Entro Ingots
Crystals are too brittle for machine frames, so they get fused with gold into an Entro Infused Ingot. In this pack that recipe has been changed. Entro Dust comes from breaking budding blocks, and the pack also adds a Mekanism crushing recipe that turns a crystal into dust.[13][15][16]

Step 3: Build the Machine Frame and Crystal Assembler
The ingots go into the Extended Machine Frame, which is a key part of the machine you need next.[13][15]

The Crystal Assembler is the big milestone. Most Extended AE devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you'll craft them here. It also handles some in-world transformation recipes, like fluix transformation. The screen face can't connect to your network.[8]

Once you have the Crystal Assembler, you can start on the devices. Good first picks are the ME Extended Pattern Provider for a larger pattern inventory, the ME Extended Drive, which holds 20 storage cells, and the ME Active Formation Plane, which places blocks without a subnet.[6][8][17][18]
How does Extended AE work?
6 parts
Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that streamlines storage and crafting workflows. Below is how its main systems work, one group at a time.[1]
Unverified The sources here include no config files for this mod in the pack, so any value the guide calls a default or says is configurable may have been changed in this pack. Check in game before you plan around it.
Assembler Matrix multiblock
The Assembler Matrix is the big multiblock crafter. It can run a lot of crafting jobs at the same time and it saves you channels.[3]
It is a solid rectangular prism with every edge between 3 and 7 blocks long, and it can't be hollow. The edges use Assembler Matrix Frame, the faces use Assembler Matrix Wall or Assembler Matrix Glass, and the interior is made up of pattern, craft and speed cores. Once it is formed and powered, the lines on the frame turn blue.[3]
- Pattern core: the matrix only takes patterns from its pattern cores, and each one gives 36 pattern slots.[3]
- Craft core: crafting jobs are assigned to craft cores, and each one runs 8 jobs at the same time.[3]
- Speed core: 5 speed cores give full speed, and more than 5 add nothing.[3]
A valid matrix needs at least one pattern core and one craft core. Right-click a formed, online matrix to open its GUI, where you can add or search patterns and see how many jobs are running.[3]
The pack changes the frame recipe compared with the mod's own. The wall and glass recipes are the mod's recipes.[13]

Parallel machines
- Extended Molecular Assembler: runs 8 crafting jobs at once and is 2x faster than the normal one. It only takes jobs sent through the network, so you can't put a pattern in it directly.[19]
- Extended Inscriber: runs 4 inscribing jobs at the same time. A button changes the max stack size of its inventory, like the normal inscriber.[20]
- Circuit Slicer: slices material blocks straight into processor prints, which the guide says is 9x faster than the inscriber most of the time. Glass faces without a port can't connect to the network.[4]
- Extended Charger: charges 4 items at the same time.[21]
- ME Extended IO Port: works 8x faster than the normal IO Port and has more upgrade slots.[22]
The Crystal Assembler crafts most Extended AE devices, which are too complex for a crafting table. It also does certain in-world transformation recipes, like fluix. Its screen face can't connect to the network.[8]

Storage and item handling
- ME Extended Drive holds 20 storage cells.[18]
- ME Extended Pattern Provider has a larger pattern inventory, and ME Extended Interface has a larger config inventory. Both exist as blocks and as cable parts, and you can convert between the two forms in a crafting grid.[13][17][23]
- ME Oversize Interface has the same number of slots as a normal interface, but each slot holds 16x more by default, which is 1024 items instead of 64. The multiplier is configurable and other mods' items can have their own multiplier.[24]
- ME Ingredient Buffer is a storage block that holds 36 types of anything, from items to fluids.[25]
- Infinity Cobblestone Cell and the infinity water cell hold 2.1 billion items or fluids. You can extract infinity cobblestone or water from them, or inject infinity cobblestone or water into them.[26]
- ME Void Cell must be partitioned before use. It then deletes everything matching its filter, or condenses it.[11][27]
The ME Canner fills containers with fluids by default. Its guide page lists Applied Flux, Applied Mekanistics and Applied Botanics Addon as the addons that let it fill other things such as energy, Mekanism gas and Botania mana. Each operation costs 80 AE. Only its top and bottom sides accept energy and connect to the network. For autocrafting, the pattern must contain only the thing to fill and the container to be filled. In Empty mode it drains containers, and you swap the pattern's inputs and outputs.[5]
Buses, filters and level control
Extended Import and Export Buses are faster than the normal ones, with a default speed multiplier of 8 that the guide says is configurable. They also have more upgrade slots.[28]
- Mod Export Bus and Mod Storage Bus filter by mod name or mod id. Separate several mods with commas.[29][30]
- Tag Storage Bus filters by item or fluid tags and supports basic logic. The guide's examples are c:raw_materials/* for raw ore, and c:ingots/* | c:gems/* for all ingots and gems. In the filter, * is a wildcard and () sets priority.[11][31]
- Tag Export Bus filters by item or fluid tags.[32]
- Precise Export Bus exports exact quantities, and only if the target container can accept the whole amount. With 3 cobblestones set, it stops when the network has fewer than 3, or when the chest can't hold 3 more.[33]
- Precise Storage Bus is filtered with a number, and only inserts items up to that limit.[34]
- Threshold Export Bus exports when the stored quantity is above or below a threshold, depending on its mode. In the guide's example, a threshold of 128 for copper exports copper once the network holds more than 128.[35]
- Threshold Level Emitter works like a Reset-Set latch with a lower and an upper threshold. With 100 and 150, it turns on above 150, stays on while the amount falls, and turns off below 100.[36]
ME Active Formation Plane can place blocks or drop items actively. It needs no subnet.[6]
Wireless links
ME Wireless Connector links two networks one-to-one. Range is limited and it can't cross dimensions. You link two connectors by clicking both with the ME Wireless Setup Kit, and sneak-click clears the kit. Connectors can be colored and only connect to the same color.[37]
Power cost rises with distance, and not linearly, so very long links get expensive. The guide says each power-saving card cuts the cost by 10%.[37]
ME Wireless Hub works like the connector but has 8 ports and can connect up to 8 hubs or connectors at once. It picks a free port automatically. When all ports are used, you click the X button to disconnect one by hand.[38]
Upgrading, moving and bulk editing
The upgrade items let you turn normal AE2 devices into their extended versions without breaking them. Sneak + right-click the device, and all its settings and inventory are kept. The covered devices are pattern providers, interfaces, import/export buses, the pattern access terminal and the drive.[39]

ME Packing Tape packs an in-world ME device into a package item. Sneak + right-click the device with the tape, and its settings and inventory are kept. Right-click with the package to unpack it. Only devices on a configurable list work, and the default list includes the extended interfaces, pattern providers and the AE2 drive.[40]
Config Modifier bulk-edits config inventories, such as an interface's. Click a block or part with it. Its modes are Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Maximize, Minimize, Set and Clear, and the maths modes use the amount X.[7]
Pattern Modifier does the same for patterns, with multiply/divide, replace, property and clone modes. Division only works when the amounts divide evenly, and multiplication is capped at 999,999 per ingredient.[41]
The ME Extended Pattern Access Terminal adds better pattern search by ingredient name, pattern highlighting in the GUI, and in-world highlighting of a pattern provider, which helps when a big craft is stuck.[42]
How do you progress through Extended AE?
5 parts
In this pack the in-pack recipes set the order in which you unlock Extended AE. The path runs from Entro materials to the Extended Machine Frame and Crystal Assembler, then Concurrent Processors, then the extended devices, and finally the Assembler Matrix.[8][13]
Unverified Quest-guided progression for this mod is told in the pack's quest book, and the sources here do not show any quest for it. The tiers below follow the in-pack recipes only.
Tier 1: Entro materials
Everything starts with Entro. There are several ways to get Entro Crystal in this pack, and some of them were changed or added by the pack.[13]
- The reaction recipe for Entro Crystal is changed by the pack, so use the version shown below rather than assuming the mod default.[13]
- The pack also adds a crafting recipe that turns Mystical Agriculture's Entro Essence into an Entro Crystal.[13]
- The pack adds a Mekanism crushing recipe that turns an Entro Crystal into Entro Dust.[13]
- Entro Shard can be recycled back into a crystal, and Entro Block can be unpacked into crystals again.[13]
This reaction recipe is changed by the pack.
The next item to chase is Entro Infused Ingot. Its reaction recipe is also changed by the pack. A second recipe for it is made in the Crystal Assembler, and that machine itself needs the Extended Machine Frame, which asks for an infused Entro ingot.[13]
This reaction recipe is changed by the pack.
Entro Seed is a separate branch. It is crafted in a crafting table, and the Crystal Assembler uses it to make Budding Mostly Entroized Fluix.[13]

Tier 2: Machine Frame and Crystal Assembler
The Extended Machine Frame is an ingredient in the Crystal Assembler, the ME Canner, the Circuit Slicer, the Crystal Fixer and the Assembler Matrix Frame, so you want it early.[13]

The Crystal Assembler is the heart of the mod. Most extended devices are too complex for a crafting table, so you craft them here. It can also do certain in-world transformation recipes, like fluix transformation.[8]
Tier 3: Concurrent Processors
Concurrent Processor is commonly used in multi-thread machines, so they can handle multiple works at the same time. You first make an Inscriber Concurrent Press in the Crystal Assembler, and then the processor itself. The processor recipe is changed by the pack.[13][43]

Tier 4: Extended devices
With the Crystal Assembler and Concurrent Processors, you can start crafting the extended devices. Here are the main ones.[13]
- ME Extended Drive, Extended Inscriber, ME Extended Interface, ME Extended IO Port and Extended Charger are all Crystal Assembler recipes that use a Concurrent Processor.[13]
- ME Extended Import Bus and ME Extended Export Bus are also Crystal Assembler recipes. ME Active Formation Plane builds on the extended export bus.[13]
- Circuit Slicer slices material blocks directly into processor prints, so it is 9x faster than an inscriber at most times. Its glass faces that don't have a port can't connect to the network.[4]
- ME Canner fills fluids by default, and every operation costs 80 AE. Filling other things like gas, mana or energy needs the matching addon.[5]
Pattern Provider Upgrade, Interface Upgrade, Import/Export Bus Upgrade, Pattern Access Terminal Upgrade and Drive Upgrade let you swap normal ME devices for their extended versions. Sneak and right-click the device, and all its settings and inventory are kept.[39]
Config Modifier and Pattern Modifier are both crafting table recipes. The Config Modifier is a tool for bulk modification of config inventories, for example on an interface.[7][13]
Tier 5: Assembler Matrix
The Assembler Matrix is the top of this path. It is a multiblock that can run many crafting jobs at once and saves channels. The Assembler Matrix Frame recipe is changed by the pack, and the cores are Crystal Assembler recipes.[3][13]

- The matrix is a rectangular prism with edge lengths between 3 and 7. It must be completely filled, with no hollow space.[3]
- The edges are frames and the faces are walls or glass. The interior holds pattern, craft and speed cores, and you need at least one pattern core and one craft core.[3]
- Each Assembler Matrix Pattern Core gives 36 pattern slots. Each Assembler Matrix Craft Core can run 8 crafting jobs at the same time.[3]
- 5 Assembler Matrix Speed Core cores give full speed, and installing more than 5 adds nothing.[3]
How does Extended AE work with other mods?
5 parts
Extended AE is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so the biggest link is with AE2 itself. On top of that, this pack adds its own recipes that tie Extended AE into Modern Industrialization, Mystical Agriculture, Mekanism, All the Compressed and Productive Bees. Everything below comes from in-pack recipes.[1][13]
Built on AE2 parts
Most Extended AE devices are upgrades of an AE2 counterpart, plus AE2 cards, processors and cores. The mod's guide says these devices are too complex for a crafting table, and you need the Crystal Assembler to make most of them. The Crystal Assembler itself is crafted by hand from AE2 parts and an Extended Machine Frame.[8][13]

Concurrent Processor routes
The Concurrent Processor shows up in many recipes, including Extended AE devices and the add-on mods below. The pack gives you several ways to make it. The mod's own inscriber recipe is there, the Crystal Assembler version is changed by the pack, and the pack adds a Modern Industrialization assembler recipe that uses Molten Redstone.[13][43]
Assembler (modern_industrialization)
Recipe id: modern_industrialization:kjs/bqhp6amcxj75yk6e0avcu5zi9
The pack also adds an inscriber recipe that makes Printed Concurrent Circuit from an Entro Crystal and the Universal Press. The same Universal Press gives you an alternative Circuit Slicer recipe. The mod guide says the Circuit Slicer slices blocks into prints at up to 9x the inscriber's speed.[4][13]

Entro Crystal
Entro Crystal has more than one source. The mod's transform recipe turns a Fluix Crystal into one with entro dust, and the Advanced AE reaction recipe is changed by the pack. The pack also adds a crafting recipe that turns Entro Essence from Mystical Agriculture into the crystal.[13]
Crafting Shaped
8 × Entro Essence

Productive Bees is linked too. A pack-changed transform recipe uses Entro Dust on a configurable bee and gives back the bee along with Spawn Egg Configurable Bee.[13]
Advanced AE and ExpandedAE
Advanced AE builds on Extended AE items. Its Advanced Extended Pattern Provider starts from the ME Extended Pattern Provider, and its quantum computer parts such as the Quantum Crafting Unit use the Concurrent Processor. The pack changed all of these recipes.[13]
Crafting Shaped
| any redstone dust | |
Recipe id: advanced_ae:eaeadvpatpro
ExpandedAE items can be crafted from Extended AE ones. The ME Expanded Pattern Provider and the Expanded Pattern Provider Upgrade both start from the ME Extended Pattern Provider, and the ME Expanded IO Port starts from the ME Extended IO Port. All three recipes are changed by the pack.[13]
The Wireless Extended Pattern Access Terminal also has pack-changed combine recipes with AE2 Wireless Terminal Library terminals and the ExpandedAE wireless encoding terminal. The sources don't show the combined results, so check them in game.[13]
Storage, Mekanism and compression
- Quartz Blend can be turned into Silicon by smelting, blasting or Mekanism enriching. The pack changed the Mekanism recipe.[13]
- Entro Block and Block of Silicon can be compressed into All the Compressed blocks and decompressed again. The pack changed these recipes.[13]
- The pack adds a Gravel Cell recipe. It uses the Infinity Cobblestone Cell, a Mekanism Crusher, Gravel 6x and three Allthemodium alloy ingots.[13]
