What is Botany Trees?
1 part
Botany Trees is an addon for Botany Pots. It lets you grow trees in the small pots, either as decoration or as a mini wood farm.[1]
This pack ships Botany Trees 21.1.7, and the mod has been in the pack since version 4.6 or earlier.[2]
Which trees it supports
The mod's project page lists trees from vanilla and several other mods. These are the counts it gives:[1]
- Vanilla: 6 trees[1]
- Quark: 5 trees[1]
- Biomes O' Plenty: 18 trees[1]
- Forbidden Arcanus: 2 trees[1]
- Simple Farming: 9 trees[1]
- Biomes You'll Go: 39 trees[1]
- Better Default Biomes: 2 trees[1]
- Silent Gear: 1 tree[1]
That list comes from the mod's own page, so it shows what the mod can support in general. Which of those trees you can actually plant depends on which of those mods are installed in the pack.[1]
How do you get started with Botany Trees?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Botany Trees is an addon for Botany Pots. With it you can grow trees from vanilla and several other mods inside the Botany Pot, either as decoration or as a mini wood farm.[1]
What the mod covers
The project page lists these mods as currently supported, with the number of trees each one adds.[1]
- Vanilla: 6 trees (currently supported)[1]
- Quark: 5 trees (currently supported)[1]
- Biomes O' Plenty: 18 trees (currently supported)[1]
- Forbidden Arcanus: 2 trees (currently supported)[1]
- Simple Farming: 9 trees (currently supported)[1]
- Biomes You'll Go: 39 trees (currently supported)[1]
- Better Default Biomes: 2 trees (currently supported)[1]
- Silent Gear: 1 tree (currently supported)[1]
Your first steps
- Botany Trees is an addon for Botany Pots, and the trees are grown inside the Botany Pot, so that is where you plant them.[1]
- Try a vanilla tree first. The project page currently lists 6 vanilla trees as supported.[1]
- Decide what you want the pot for. The project page says you can grow trees as decoration or as a mini wood farm.[1]
Unverified The sources here do not show any crafting recipes or quests for this mod in this pack, so there is no recipe block in this section.
How does Botany Trees work?
4 parts
Botany Trees has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids. It is an addon for Botany Pots that lets you grow trees inside a small pot, either for decoration or as a mini wood farm. Everything it does comes down to two kinds of data: a crop entry that says what grows, and a loot table that says what you get back.[1]
How a tree crop is set up
In this pack, the Allthemodium trees show the setup clearly. Each one is a Botany Pots crop built from a sapling block, with a grow_time of 2,400 and a drop list that points at a Botany Trees loot table. The ancient tree uses Ancient Sapling, the demonic tree uses Demonic Sapling and the soul tree uses Soul Sapling.[3][4][5]
The sources don't say what unit grow_time is in, so treat 2,400 as the pack's value and check the timing in game.[3][4][5]
What a tree drops
A typical tree loot table has three parts. One pool gives 1 to 4 logs with no condition attached. Another gives the sapling back with a 0.05 chance. A third gives 1 to 3 leaves only when the tool in the loot context is shears. The Aether skyroot, the Ars Nouveau archwoods (blue, green, purple and red) and the Ars Elemental yellow archwood all follow this pattern.[6][7][8][9][10][11]
The loot tables in the mod's jar are also gated: each one only loads if the matching sapling block exists. So a table for a mod that isn't installed is not loaded.[6][7][8][12]
Trees with extra drops
The Aether golden oak has a more interesting table. For logs, it gives Golden Oak Log (1 to 4) when the tool has Silk Touch. Otherwise it gives Skyroot Log (1 to 4). On top of that it has a 0.05 chance of Golden Oak Sapling, a 0.05 chance of Golden Amber, and a 0.00005 chance of Golden Apple. Shears give 1 to 3 Golden Oak Leaves.[13]
What the pack changed for the ancient tree
The mod's own ancient tree table only gives Ancient Log (1 to 4), a 0.05 sapling chance and shears-only leaves. This pack replaces it with its own table. It keeps those drops and adds a separate 0.05 chance each of Ancient Log and Ancient Log. So an ancient tree farm can give you all three log variants, though the second and third are rare.[12][14]
The demonic and soul trees follow the standard pattern: 1 to 4 Demonic Log or Soul Log, a 0.05 sapling chance, and 1 to 3 leaves with shears. The pack's tables for these match the mod's own.[15][16][17][18]
How do you progress through Botany Trees?
2 parts
The data I can confirm for this mod in the pack is what each tree drops. Here is how that breaks down by tree family, so you know what you can farm from each one.[14]
Allthemodium trees
The pack ships its own drop table for the ancient tree, and it differs from the mod's jar version. The jar version drops Ancient Log, the sapling and shear-only leaves. The pack adds two extra log types on top of that.[12][14]
- Ancient Log: always drops, 1 to 4 per harvest.[14]
- Ancient Log and Ancient Log: each has its own 0.05 chance. This is the pack's change.[12][14]
- Ancient Sapling: 0.05 chance.[14]
- Ancient Leaves: 1 to 3, only when you use shears.[14]
The demonic and soul trees both have pack-provided drop tables with the same shape: 1 to 4 logs every time, a 0.05 chance of the sapling, and 1 to 3 leaves with shears. You get Demonic Log, Demonic Sapling and Demonic Leaves from the demonic tree. The soul tree gives Soul Log, Soul Sapling and Soul Leaves.[15][16]
Aether trees
The skyroot tree drops 1 to 4 Skyroot Log each time, with a 0.05 chance of Skyroot Sapling and shear-only Skyroot Leaves (1 to 3).[6]
The golden oak is more interesting. With a Silk Touch tool it gives 1 to 4 Golden Oak Log. Without Silk Touch you get 1 to 4 Skyroot Log instead. It also has a 0.05 chance each of Golden Oak Sapling and Golden Amber, plus shear-only Golden Oak Leaves. There is even a tiny 0.00005 chance of a Golden Apple.[13]
Unverified Drops for the other trees in the pack, such as the archwood trees and aspen, are not confirmed here.
What changed in Botany Trees between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.2 ships Botany Trees 21.1.7. Here is how the mod got to that version across the pack's releases.[2]
- All the Mods 10 4.6: Botany Trees 21.1.1 was added to the pack. That release was the port of the mod to Minecraft 1.21.1.[19][20]
- All the Mods 10 6.0: updated from 21.1.1 to 21.1.3. The mod's changelog for 21.1.3 lists one change, a fix for a crash when JEI is installed.[21][22]
- All the Mods 10 7.1: updated from 21.1.3 to 21.1.7, which is still the version in 8.2.[2][23]
What 21.1.7 added
The 21.1.7 changelog is all about support for other mods. It lists support for Regions Unexplored, Pastel, Herbs and Harvest, Merry Making, Golden Apple Trees, AllTheModium, Sushi Go Crafting and Wooly Trees.[24]
