What is Botany Trees?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

Botany Trees is an addon for Botany Pots. It lets you grow trees in the small pots, either as decoration or as a mini wood farm.[1]

This pack ships Botany Trees 21.1.7, and the mod has been in the pack since version 4.6 or earlier.[2]

Which trees it supports

The mod's project page lists trees from vanilla and several other mods. These are the counts it gives:[1]

  • Vanilla: 6 trees[1]
  • Quark: 5 trees[1]
  • Biomes O' Plenty: 18 trees[1]
  • Forbidden Arcanus: 2 trees[1]
  • Simple Farming: 9 trees[1]
  • Biomes You'll Go: 39 trees[1]
  • Better Default Biomes: 2 trees[1]
  • Silent Gear: 1 tree[1]

That list comes from the mod's own page, so it shows what the mod can support in general. Which of those trees you can actually plant depends on which of those mods are installed in the pack.[1]

How do you get started with Botany Trees?

2 parts

Botany Trees is an addon for Botany Pots. It lets you grow trees inside the small Botany Pot, either as decoration or as a mini wood farm. So the first step is to have Botany Pots working in the pack, because this addon builds on it.[1]

What you can grow

The addon supports trees from Vanilla and several other mods. Which of these you can actually grow depends on which of those mods are installed in the pack.[1]

  • Vanilla: 6 trees[1]
  • Quark: 5 trees[1]
  • Biomes O' Plenty: 18 trees[1]
  • Forbidden Arcanus: 2 trees[1]
  • Simple Farming: 9 trees[1]
  • Biomes You'll Go: 39 trees[1]
  • Better Default Biomes: 2 trees[1]
  • Silent Gear: 1 tree[1]

Where to start

Start with a Vanilla tree in a Botany Pot. That tells you whether the setup works before you move on to trees from other mods. Use it as a decoration or as a small wood farm, which are the two uses the mod describes.[1]

Unverified I can't confirm any in-pack recipes, quests, or item details for Botany Trees, so there are no recipe blocks here. I also can't confirm the exact soil, growth time, or drops for any tree. Check the items in-game, for example in a recipe viewer, before you plan a farm around them. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Botany Trees work?

2 parts

Botany Trees is an addon for Botany Pots. It lets you grow trees inside the Botany Pot, so you get a small tree farm in a single pot. You can use it purely for decoration or as a mini wood farm.[1]

Which trees you can grow

The mod adds pot-sized versions of trees from vanilla and several other mods. The project page lists the following as currently supported, with how many trees each one provides:[1]

  • Vanilla: 6 trees currently supported[1]
  • Quark: 5 trees currently supported[1]
  • Biomes O' Plenty: 18 trees currently supported[1]
  • Forbidden Arcanus: 2 trees currently supported[1]
  • Simple Farming: 9 trees currently supported[1]
  • Biomes You'll Go: 39 trees currently supported[1]
  • Better Default Biomes: 2 trees currently supported[1]
  • Silent Gear: 1 tree currently supported[1]

That list comes from the mod's project page, which presents it as the currently supported set. Whether a given tree is actually available in this pack depends on which of those mods are installed, and that isn't confirmed here.[1]

What the sources don't cover

The project page describes Botany Trees as an addon for Botany Pots and only covers the mod at a high level: growing trees in the pot, for decoration or as a mini wood farm, with the currently supported trees listed above.[1]

Unverified The sources don't explain growth times, drops, soil requirements, hopper or pipe automation, or any power and fluid handling. The pack has no config files for this mod, no in-jar guidebook, and no recipes that produce its items, so none of those details can be confirmed here. Check Botany Pots itself for how the pot behaves.

How do you progress through Botany Trees?

4 parts

The sources here don't define a tier ladder for this mod, so there is nothing to rank. What the pack does give you is three Allthemodium trees set up as Botany Pots crops: ancient, demonic and soul. Each has its own data file, grows from its own sapling, and shares the same grow time and basic drop pattern. The ancient tree adds a few extra drops.[3][4][5][6][7][8]

What all three trees share

  • Each crop is derived from its sapling block, with a grow time value of 2,400.[6][7][8]
  • Every harvest gives 1 to 4 of the tree's log.[3][4][5]
  • Every harvest has a 0.05 chance to give the tree's sapling back.[3][4][5]
  • Leaves only drop when the tool used is shears, and then you get 1 to 3 of them.[3][4][5]

Ancient tree

The ancient tree grows from Ancient Sapling and always drops Ancient Log. On top of that, Ancient Log and Ancient Log each have their own separate 0.05 chance to drop. You also get the same 0.05 chance to get the sapling back, and shears give you Ancient Leaves.[3][6]

Demonic tree

The demonic tree grows from Demonic Sapling and drops Demonic Log. It has a 0.05 chance to return the sapling, and shears give you Demonic Leaves. There are no extra log variants here.[4][7]

Soul tree

The soul tree grows from Soul Sapling and drops Soul Log. It follows the same pattern: a 0.05 chance of getting the sapling back, and Soul Leaves when you use shears.[5][8]

Tip: The sapling only comes back with a 0.05 chance per harvest, so it is worth holding onto a spare sapling of each tree.[3][4][5]

What changed in Botany Trees between versions?

3 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Botany Trees 21.1.7, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Here are the changes the mod's own changelogs list, oldest first.[9]

21.1.1

This release ported Botany Trees to Minecraft 1.21.1, which is the version the pack runs on.[10]

21.1.3

A crash that happened when JEI was installed got fixed. JEI is a common part of modpacks, so this was an important one.[11]

21.1.7

This is the version in the pack right now. Its changelog is all about added support for other content:[9][12]

There are no pack changelog entries about Botany Trees, so everything above comes from the mod's own changelogs.[10][11][12]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as botanytrees, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
