What is Chisel Reborn?

Chisel Reborn adds lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks. If you like building and want more decorative options than vanilla gives you, this is the mod for you.[1]

The pack includes Chisel Reborn 1.3.4, and it has been part of the pack since version 1.0.0 or earlier.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't say how Chisel Reborn fits into the pack's progression, how its chiseling GUI works, or what its recipes are. Check in-game before you rely on any of those details.

How do you get started with Chisel Reborn?

5 parts

Chisel Reborn adds lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks, so it's all about making your builds look great. Getting started is quick: make a chisel, learn the controls, then start swapping blocks.[1]

Step 1: Craft the Diamond Chisel

Your first item is the Diamond Chisel. It's the chisel tool I can confirm from this pack's recipes, and it's what you use to turn one block into its variants.[3]

Step 2: Learn the controls

The mod's tooltips cover the basics. The language file doesn't say which tool shows which line, so check the tooltip on your own chisel in game.[4]

  • Left-click a block to cycle through its variants forward, or Shift + Left-click to cycle backwards.[4]
  • Right-click to open the GUI. There you can set a target to chisel to one specific variant.[4]
  • Shift + Right-click changes the chisel mode.[4]
  • Ctrl + Shift + Right-click toggles fuzzy mode.[4]

Chisel modes

Modes let you change many blocks at once, which saves a lot of clicking on big builds. These are the ones described in the mod's text:[4]

  • Single: chisel one block.[4]
  • Column: chisel a 3x1 column of blocks.[4]
  • Row: chisel a 1x3 row of blocks.[4]
  • Panel: chisel a 3x3 square of blocks.[4]
  • Contiguous: chisel an area of alike blocks, extending 10 blocks in any direction.[4]
  • Contiguous 2D: chisel an area of alike blocks, extending 10 blocks along the plane of the current side.[4]

Step 3: Craft some starter blocks

Chisel Reborn also has blocks you craft directly. A fun one to try first is Brownstone Block - Raw. Its tooltip says walking on it increases your speed, so it makes a handy path.[3][4]

Step 4: Automate it later

Once you're comfortable chiseling by hand, the Auto Chisel is the next thing to look at. It has its own recipe in this pack.[3]

Unverified The sources don't explain how the Auto Chisel works. They also don't confirm whether other chisel tiers, such as an iron chisel, exist in this pack, because the recipe list I had was cut off. Check the item in game or in your recipe viewer. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Chisel Reborn work?

4 parts

Chisel Reborn adds lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks. The core mechanic isn't a big machine setup. It's a tool you use on blocks in the world, and the tooltips explain how it works.[1][4]

Cycling and targeting variants

  • Left-click a block to cycle through its variants forward. Shift + Left-click cycles backwards.[4]
  • Right-click to open the GUI. In the GUI you can set a target, so the chisel changes blocks to one specific variant instead of cycling.[4]
  • Ctrl + Shift + Right-click toggles fuzzy mode.[4]

Chisel modes

Shift + Right-click changes the chisel's mode. The mode decides how many blocks you change with one click.[4]

  • Single: chisels a single block.[4]
  • Column: chisels a 3x1 column of blocks.[4]
  • Row: chisels a 1x3 row of blocks.[4]
  • Panel: chisels a 3x3 square of blocks.[4]
  • Contiguous: chisels an area of alike blocks, extending 10 blocks in any direction.[4]
  • Contiguous 2D: chisels an area of alike blocks, extending 10 blocks along the plane of the current side.[4]
Tip: Contiguous modes are great for redoing a big wall or floor in one click. They only affect alike blocks, so the rest of your build stays untouched.[4]

Offset tool

The offset tool changes a block's texture offset. Right-click a block to cycle the offset, and Sneak + Right-click to reset it.[4]

Automation: the Auto Chisel

The pack includes a crafting recipe for the Auto Chisel. Here is how it's made in this pack:[3]

Unverified The sources don't explain how the Auto Chisel works. Its GUI, item inputs and outputs, speed, any power or fluid needs, and whether hoppers or pipes can feed it are all unconfirmed. The same goes for what fuzzy mode actually changes. The pack also has no Chisel Reborn config files to check.

How do you progress through Chisel Reborn?

4 parts

The sources for this pack don't show a formal tier system for Chisel Reborn. What they do show is a clear chain of chisel tools, plus a lot of blocks you can craft directly. Here is how it fits together.[3]

The chisel tool line

The Chisel (shown in-game as Chisel) is the base tool and has its own crafting recipe.[3]

At the top is the iChisel, called iChisel in-game. Its recipe is shapeless and takes the Diamond Chisel as an input, so you have to make that one first.[3]

Crafting blocks directly

Recipes the pack changed

How does Chisel Reborn work with other mods?

4 parts

The integration for Chisel Reborn in this pack is about upgrading chisels. Chisels from the mod are the base for upgraded chisels that need items from other mods. Every recipe involved is marked as changed by the pack, so these are the pack's own recipes and not mod defaults.[3]

Chisel upgrade paths

Each upgraded chisel is made from a specific Chisel Reborn chisel, so you don't craft it from scratch. These are the pairings:[3]

Every upgrade can be done at a smithing table or in the crafting grid. The smithing route also needs a matching template item: Template: Ferricore, Template: Celestigem or Template: Eclipse Alloy. The crafting grid route uses a Stick instead of a template.[3]

Tip: Each upgraded chisel needs its matching Chisel Reborn tier: the Chisel for Ferricore, the Diamond Chisel for Celestigem and the iChisel for Eclipse Alloy. Make the right base chisel first.[3]
