What is Chisel Reborn?

1 part

Chisel Reborn adds lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks. If you like building bases with a bit more style than plain stone and dirt, this is the mod for you. It's a decorative, building-focused mod, so it's all about how your base looks rather than machines or power.[1]

This pack includes Chisel Reborn 1.4.1, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack since 1.21.0 or earlier.[2]

Where it fits in progression

Chisel Reborn isn't tied to any quest in this pack, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. You won't be pushed toward it, so treat it as an optional extra you pick up whenever you want to polish your builds.[2]

Unverified The sources I have don't cover the chisel's GUI, the exact block variants available, or the in-pack recipes for the mod's items. Check in-game (for example in the recipe viewer) before you plan around specific blocks or crafting. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Chisel Reborn?

4 parts

Chisel Reborn adds lots of blocks that are variations of vanilla blocks. Here is how I'd start in this pack: learn the controls first, then craft a few blocks and check the recipes this pack has changed.[1]

Step 1: Learn the controls

Before you craft anything, read the in-game tooltips. They tell you how variant swapping works, and you'll use these controls constantly.[3]

  • Left-click blocks to cycle variants forward, and Shift + Left-click to cycle backwards.[3]
  • Right-click to open the GUI, where you can set a target to chisel to one specific variant.[3]
  • Shift + Right-click to change mode. The modes are a single block, a 1x3 row, a 3x1 column and a 3x3 panel. There are also two contiguous modes that cover alike blocks extending 10 blocks, either in any direction or along the plane of the side you're facing.[3]
  • Ctrl + Shift + Right-click toggles fuzzy mode.[3]
  • The offset tool cycles a block's texture offset when you right-click it. Sneak + Right-click resets the offset.[3]

Step 2: Craft a few base blocks

Some of the mod's blocks come from ordinary crafting recipes. One to try is Colored Sand - Black, and the other colored sands follow the same pattern with a different dye.[4]

Also a plain mod recipe, not changed by the pack.

Step 3: Watch for the pack's changed recipes

The Chisel Reborn recipes I can see marked as changed by the pack are Amber - Amber and Arcane Stone - Raw. Trust the recipe blocks below rather than a guide written for another pack.[4]

Watch out: If you follow a guide written for another modpack, double-check these recipes against what you see here. The pack's version is the one that counts.[4]

Later: the Auto Chisel

Once you're comfortable chiseling by hand, the pack has a recipe for the Auto Chisel.[4]

How does Chisel Reborn work?

5 parts

Chisel Reborn is much simpler than a typical tech mod. Going by the sources I have, it has no power, fluid or multiblock systems. Almost everything revolves around the chisel tool, which swaps a block for another variant of itself. Below is how the tool behaves, based on its in-game tooltips.[1][3]

Cycling variants

  • Left-click a block to cycle through its variants forward.[3]
  • Shift + Left-click cycles backwards.[3]
  • Right-click to open the GUI.[3]
  • In the GUI you can set a target, so you chisel straight to one specific variant instead of cycling.[3]

Chisel modes

Shift + Right-click changes the chisel's mode. The mode decides how many blocks change in one click.[3]

  • Single: chisels one block.[3]
  • Column: chisels a 3x1 column of blocks.[3]
  • Row: chisels a 1x3 row of blocks.[3]
  • Panel: chisels a 3x3 square of blocks.[3]
  • Contiguous: chisels an area of alike blocks, extending 10 blocks in any direction.[3]
  • Contiguous 2D: chisels an area of alike blocks, extending 10 blocks along the plane of the side you are clicking.[3]
Tip: Contiguous modes are great for redoing a big wall or floor in one click. Panel mode suits smaller, fixed-size patches.[3]

Fuzzy mode

The chisel tooltip says Ctrl + Shift + Right-click toggles fuzzy mode.[3]

Unverified What fuzzy mode changes in practice is not explained in the sources I have, so check it in-game before relying on it.

Texture offsets

The offset tool changes how a block's texture lines up. Right-click a block to cycle its texture offset, and Sneak + Right-click to reset the offset.[3]

Auto Chisel

The mod also has an Auto Chisel, the closest thing it has to a machine. Here is its in-pack recipe:[4]

Auto ChiselMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
any glass blocksany glass blocksany glass blocks
any glass blocksany redstone dustany glass blocks
any iron ingotany iron ingotany iron ingot

Recipe id: chisel:auto_chisel

The recipe is the mod's own, and the pack has not changed it.[4]

Unverified How the Auto Chisel takes items in, outputs them and whether it needs power is not covered by the sources I have, so I can't say how to automate it. The pack also has no config files for this mod, so there are no config options to point you to.

How do you progress through Chisel Reborn?

3 parts

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest that involves Chisel Reborn. If the pack's quest book had a chapter for it, that is where a quest order would be told, so this page gives no quest-based tiers.

Without a quest line for this mod, your progression follows what you can craft. The recipe data covers the chisel tools first and then a wide range of decorative blocks, and most of those use the mod's own recipes.[4]

Tools

The two chisel-related tools in the recipe data are the Diamond Chisel and the Auto Chisel. Both are marked as the mod's own recipes, so the pack has not changed them.[4]

Decorative blocks

Most of the block recipes in the data are the mod's own and are not pack-edited. Many are built on a stone base, for example Ancient Stone - Raw, Antiblock Block - White, Factory Block - Dotted Rusty Plate and Fantasy Block - Brick.[4]

The mod also has colour families, each with its own recipes: Colored Sand - Red, Black Hex Plating - Hex Base, the wool and carpet variants such as Blue Wool - Llama and Blue Carpet - Llama, and the rainbow bookshelves such as Birch Bookshelf - Rainbow. Cloud Block - Cloud has its own recipe too.[4]

Recipes the pack changed

Among the recipes shown, two are marked as changed by the pack, so they differ from the mod's defaults: Amber - Amber and Arcane Stone - Raw. Check the recipes below instead of relying on the base mod's wiki or your memory of it.[4]

How does Chisel Reborn work with other mods?

5 parts

Chisel Reborn connects to other mods in this pack through its recipes. Your chisels can be upgraded into stronger versions, and the Arcane Stone block is crafted with an item from another mod. The recipe dump marks every one of these as changed by the pack, so treat them as this pack's versions, not the mod's defaults.[4]

Chisel upgrades from Just Dire Things materials

Your chisels can be upgraded into new chisels. The Chisel becomes the Ferricore Chisel, the Diamond Chisel becomes the Celestigem Chisel, and the iChisel becomes the Eclipse Alloy Chisel. Each upgrade uses a material from Just Dire Things: Ferricore Ingot, Celestigem or Eclipse Alloy Ingot.[4]

Every upgrade has a smithing table recipe that uses the matching Just Dire Things template, and a crafting grid recipe that does not need a template. Both give the same chisel, so use whichever is handier.[4]
