What is Amendments?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Amendments tweaks vanilla blocks to give them more functionality and better visuals, without adding brand-new features. If you like vanilla builds and decorating, this is a quality-of-life and polish mod for you.[1]

It started as a merge of several smaller mods: Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads, Better Jukeboxes and some Supplementaries features. That means you don't need to install those separately. The pack ships version 1.21-2.1.9 for NeoForge.[1][2]

What it changes

  • Cauldrons can store any liquid and mix potions and dyes. Clicking one tries to craft the item in your hand with the liquid inside. Cauldrons holding water or a potion can boil over a heat source, and boiling ones can hurt you.[1]
  • Lecterns get a new GUI when holding a Book and Quill, with an Ink Well button to cycle font colors and a Quill button to cycle fonts. They can also interact with hoppers.[1]
  • Lanterns have a new hand-held animation and can be hung on walls, where they swing with pendulum physics. This works with any lantern.[1]
  • Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces and swing with physics when attached to walls.[1]
  • Jukeboxes visually show the disc they are playing, and the disc spins. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
  • Carpets can be placed on slabs and stairs, and cakes can be stacked by placing two on top of each other.[1]
  • Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination and can have candles placed on top, which leave a wax overlay.[1]
  • Lilypads can have any block placed on them, and brewing stands color their potion bottles to match what they hold.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

There is no progression gate here. It isn't a tech or magic chain you have to climb. The changes work as you play and make everyday vanilla blocks nicer to use and build with.[1]

Tip: The mod is described as very configurable, and its project page points to a Customization section in its wiki for disabling or tweaking features. Check that wiki, but remember the pack may use different settings than the mod's defaults.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show any quests or ATM Star path steps for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Any pack-specific config changes for it are unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Amendments?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Amendments is a different kind of mod: it tweaks lots of vanilla blocks to give them more functionality and nicer visuals, rather than adding a pile of new things. So there's no big crafting chain to start with. You play normally and notice the vanilla stuff behaving better.[1]

Things to try first

Start with the vanilla blocks you already use. These are the features the mod advertises, and each one is worth a quick test in your first base.[1]

  • Cauldrons are the headline feature. They can store any liquid, mix potions and dyes, and when you click one with an item in hand it tries to craft that item with the liquid inside.[1]
  • Carpets can be placed on slabs and stairs.[1][3]
  • Cakes can be stacked by placing one on top of another, and vanilla cakes can be rotated.[1]
  • Lanterns can hang on walls and swing with pendulum physics. Banners and flower pots can go on ceilings.[1]
  • Bells can visually connect to chains and ropes below them, and you can ring one by clicking the chain or rope.[1][3]

The one item to craft: Dragon Charge

The recipe dump for this pack lists one recipe that makes an Amendments item: the Dragon Charge. The pack changes this recipe, so use the one below, not what you may remember from the mod's defaults.[4]

Dragon ChargeChanged by the pack

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: amendments:dragon_charge

This is the in-pack recipe, a shapeless crafting recipe that the pack has changed.

The mod has options that give fire and dragon charges gravity, let you throw them, and put a cooldown on throwing. Another option makes fire charges deflectable by punching them.[3]

How does Amendments work?

7 parts

Amendments adds almost no new content. It reworks how vanilla blocks behave, and most of the cauldron, fireball and placement features can be switched on or off in the config. The cauldron is where the mod gets deepest, so we start there.[1]

The enhanced cauldron

With the enhanced cauldron enabled, a cauldron can store any liquid, and it can be used to mix potions and dyes. Clicking it with an item attempts to craft that item using the liquid inside. This pack has cauldron.enhanced_cauldron turned on.[1][5]

There are two ways to craft with a cauldron, and both are on in this pack. cauldron.hand_crafting lets you craft by clicking the cauldron. cauldron.in_world_crafting lets you craft by throwing items into it.[3][5]

Broken cauldron variants (the dye cauldron and the liquid cauldron) drop a plain vanilla cauldron, so you never end up carrying a special item.[6][7]

Boiling and heat sources

A cauldron holding water or a potion can boil if there is a heat source below it. Boiling cauldrons can inflict boiling damage, and stepping into a splash or lingering potion cauldron applies that potion to you.[1]

The mod's heat source tag covers lava, magma blocks, campfires and fire. It also includes the Create blaze burner (lit or not), several Malum ether blocks, torches and braziers, and the Farmer's Delight heat sources tag. See Create, Malum and Farmer's Delight if you want to build heating setups from those.[8]

Some fluids are excluded from certain cauldron behaviours. Lava, powder snow and Alex's Caves acid cannot boil, and lava and acid are also tagged as unable to extinguish. Powder snow and water are tagged as unable to go in the liquid cauldron. Stews and soups are tagged to show no tint in the cauldron, while potion liquid is tagged as able to glow. These tags use Moonlight Lib's soft fluid system (Moonlight Lib).[9][10][11][12][13]

Potion mixing and dyeing

cauldron.potions_mixing is set to ON in this pack. The other allowed values are OFF and ONLY_BOILING. A mixed potion can hold at most 8 effects, set by cauldron.potion_mixing_limit.[5]

Mixing uses a map of opposite effects. The pack keeps these pairs:[3][5]

Dyeing works on the water itself: cauldron.dye_water is on, which allows dyeing cauldron water bedrock style and mixing the dyes too. One cauldron layer can recolor up to 4 items (cauldron.dye_recipes_per_layer) and craft with potions up to 2 items (cauldron.potion_recipes_per_layer). Both numbers are multipliers on top of the vanilla crafting recipe amount, and both are the mod defaults.[3][5]

cauldron.consistent_lava_layers is off in this pack. When it is on, a dripstone drop adds only 1 layer to a cauldron instead of a full bottle.[3][5]

Fire charges and the Dragon Charge

Fire charges and dragon charges get gravity, and you can throw them, with a cooldown of 10 ticks between throws (fireball.thrown_cooldown). Dispensers fire the gravity version of the fire charge instead of the blaze charge. The mod notes that this can break existing contraptions while allowing new ones. Punching fire charges to deflect them (fireball.deflectable) is off in this pack.[3][5]

The mod adds the Dragon Charge, controlled by fireball.dragon_charge. Here is its crafting recipe.[3][5]

Dragon ChargeChanged by the pack

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: amendments:dragon_charge

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own.

Torches that burn

With torch.torch_fire on, torches set entities on fire. The burning lasts 2 seconds, set by torch.torch_fire_duration, which is the mod default. Doing it with a torch in the offhand (torch.torch_fire_offhand) is off in this pack. The tag of items that set things on fire includes torches, soul torches and flint and steel tags, plus several modded torches.[5][15]

Placement and interaction tweaks

  • Bells: you can ring a bell by clicking a chain connected to it, as long as the chain is at most 16 long (bell.chain_length).[3][5]
  • Cakes: you can eat them from any side and stack one on top of another.[3][5]
  • Carpets: they can go on slabs and stairs. The stair carpet tag includes wool carpets, moss carpets and the Farmer's Delight canvas rug.[3][5][16]
  • Mob heads: you can stack two heads, put candles on top, and place more than one candle per skull. The enderman head from Supplementaries and the dragon head are tagged as non stackable.[3][5][17]
  • Lanterns: wall lanterns are enabled, and ceiling lanterns fall when their support breaks (the setting is ON, and the other options are OFF and NO_FIRE). Falling from high enough breaks the lantern and starts a fire where it lands.[3][5]
  • Lecterns: the improved screen lets you edit the font of a book while it is on the lectern, and lecterns can work with hoppers. Written books, writable books and map atlases are in the lectern item tag.[1][3][5][18]
  • Tripwire hooks: you can place tools on them. The tag lists items such as the spyglass, brush, wrenches, Botania rods and Spectrum staffs.[5][19]
  • Lily pads: any block can sit on top of one. The lily pad occupies the block below, which becomes waterlogged, and it reverts when you remove the block.[1][5]
  • Banners, hanging pots and hanging signs: banners can go on ceilings, flower pots can hang, and items can sit on hanging signs.[3][5][20]

Pack-specific switches

The pack sets snowball.freeze_ticks to 0, where the mod default is 35, so snowballs do not freeze entities here. Dyeing blocks with dye (misc.dye_blocks) and the riding suffocation protection (misc.passenger_no_suffocation) are both off.[5]

How do you progress through Amendments?

2 parts

Amendments has no tiers in this pack. The sources here show no tier ladder for it, so there is nothing to climb. What they do show is one crafted item, the Dragon Charge, and the blocks that count as heat sources for its cauldron.[8][14]

The Dragon Charge

The recipe for the Dragon Charge is changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's default. It is a shapeless crafting recipe, so ingredient placement in the grid doesn't matter. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[14]

Dragon ChargeChanged by the pack

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: amendments:dragon_charge

This is the pack's version of the recipe, not the mod default.

Cauldron heat sources

The mod has a tag of blocks that count as heat sources for its cauldron. It includes lava, magma blocks, campfires and fire. Entries from other mods are optional, and they only apply when that mod is installed.[8]

Unverified Where Amendments fits in the pack's quest book is not shown in the sources here, so this guide cannot give a quest-by-quest progression for it. Check the pack's quest chapters in game.

Which Amendments config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Amendments has a huge number of options, and this pack leaves almost all of them at the mod's defaults. The one value the pack actually changed is the snowball freeze time, so start there. Everything else below is how this pack sets the options you're most likely to poke at.[21][22]

The one change from the mod default

snowball.freeze_ticks is set to 0 in this pack. The mod default is 35 ticks. That option controls how long a snowball freezes an entity on hit, so in this pack snowballs don't freeze what they hit. You can set it anywhere from 0 to 1,000 if you want the freeze back.[21]

Cauldrons

Fire charges, torches and lanterns

Client visuals

The client file mostly controls looks and performance. Where the file lists a mod default, the pack's value matches it.[22]

What changed in Amendments between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.22.0 ships Amendments 1.21-2.1.10, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[23]

Changes by release

  • 2.1.10 (the version in this pack): a new UI for villager trades.[23][24]
  • 2.1.9: fixes for issues #367 and #447, plus a warning in chat when Enhanced Block Entities is installed.[25]
  • 2.1.7: improved mod compatibility.[26]
  • 2.1.4: a lanterns fix.[27]
  • 2.0.15: miscellaneous fixes.[28]
  • 2.0.13: fixed the dye bottle recipe "getting too excited".[29]
  • 2.0.9: fixed cauldron dye.[30]
  • 2.0.8: ported some fixes, and the mod no longer changes sign entity textures and models, since those aren't used anymore.[31]

The biggest change you will notice in play is the new villager trade UI from 2.1.10. The rest are mostly fixes and compatibility work.[24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31]
