What is Amendments?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Amendments tweaks vanilla blocks to give them more functionality and better visuals, without adding brand-new features. If you like vanilla builds and decorating, this is a quality-of-life and polish mod for you.[1]
It started as a merge of several smaller mods: Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads, Better Jukeboxes and some Supplementaries features. That means you don't need to install those separately. The pack ships version 1.21-2.1.9 for NeoForge.[1][2]
What it changes
- Cauldrons can store any liquid and mix potions and dyes. Clicking one tries to craft the item in your hand with the liquid inside. Cauldrons holding water or a potion can boil over a heat source, and boiling ones can hurt you.[1]
- Lecterns get a new GUI when holding a Book and Quill, with an Ink Well button to cycle font colors and a Quill button to cycle fonts. They can also interact with hoppers.[1]
- Lanterns have a new hand-held animation and can be hung on walls, where they swing with pendulum physics. This works with any lantern.[1]
- Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces and swing with physics when attached to walls.[1]
- Jukeboxes visually show the disc they are playing, and the disc spins. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
- Carpets can be placed on slabs and stairs, and cakes can be stacked by placing two on top of each other.[1]
- Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination and can have candles placed on top, which leave a wax overlay.[1]
- Lilypads can have any block placed on them, and brewing stands color their potion bottles to match what they hold.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
There is no progression gate here. It isn't a tech or magic chain you have to climb. The changes work as you play and make everyday vanilla blocks nicer to use and build with.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests or ATM Star path steps for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Any pack-specific config changes for it are unconfirmed.
How do you get started with Amendments?
2 parts
Amendments is a different kind of mod: it tweaks lots of vanilla blocks to give them more functionality and nicer visuals, rather than adding a pile of new things. So there's no big crafting chain to start with. You play normally and notice the vanilla stuff behaving better.[1]
Things to try first
Start with the vanilla blocks you already use. These are the features the mod advertises, and each one is worth a quick test in your first base.[1]
- Cauldrons are the headline feature. They can store any liquid, mix potions and dyes, and when you click one with an item in hand it tries to craft that item with the liquid inside.[1]
- Carpets can be placed on slabs and stairs.[1][3]
- Cakes can be stacked by placing one on top of another, and vanilla cakes can be rotated.[1]
- Lanterns can hang on walls and swing with pendulum physics. Banners and flower pots can go on ceilings.[1]
- Bells can visually connect to chains and ropes below them, and you can ring one by clicking the chain or rope.[1][3]
The one item to craft: Dragon Charge
The recipe dump for this pack lists one recipe that makes an Amendments item: the Dragon Charge. The pack changes this recipe, so use the one below, not what you may remember from the mod's defaults.[4]
This is the in-pack recipe, a shapeless crafting recipe that the pack has changed.
The mod has options that give fire and dragon charges gravity, let you throw them, and put a cooldown on throwing. Another option makes fire charges deflectable by punching them.[3]
How does Amendments work?
6 parts
Amendments isn't a tech mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks or power networks to set up. It's a very configurable mod that tweaks many existing vanilla blocks, adding functionality and better visuals without adding new features. The one real exception is the Dragon Charge item. The mechanics worth knowing are how those tweaks behave, and the pack's config shows exactly which ones are switched on.[1][3][5]
Cauldrons
The cauldron is the most involved system in the mod. It can store any liquid and can mix potions and dyes. When you click one, it tries to craft the item in your hand with the liquid it holds. A cauldron holding water or a potion can boil if there's a heat source below it, and boiling cauldrons can inflict boiling damage. Stepping into a splash or lingering potion cauldron applies that potion to you.[1]
In this pack the enhanced cauldron is enabled through cauldron.enhanced_cauldron. Both ways of crafting with it are on: clicking with an item (cauldron.hand_crafting) and throwing items into it (cauldron.in_world_crafting).[3][5]
- Potion mixing: cauldron.potions_mixing is set to ON in the pack. The allowed values are OFF, ONLY_BOILING and ON.[5]
- Mixed potion size: cauldron.potion_mixing_limit caps a mixed potion at 8 effects, which is also the mod default.[5]
- Dyed water: cauldron.dye_water is on, so you can dye cauldron water bedrock-style and mix the colors.[3][5]
- Dye crafting: cauldron.dye_recipes_per_layer is 4 (the mod default). It's the max number of items one cauldron layer can recolor, as a multiplier on the vanilla crafting recipe amount.[5]
- Potion crafting: cauldron.potion_recipes_per_layer is 2 (the mod default). It works the same way, for crafting with potions.[5]
- Lava layers: cauldron.consistent_lava_layers is off in the pack. When it's on, a dripstone drop adds just 1 layer to a cauldron, like water, instead of a full bottle.[3][5]
- Fences: cauldron.connect_to_fences is on, so cauldrons connect to fences.[5]
Inverse potions
Potion mixing uses a map of potion ids to their inverse ids. The pack defines these opposite pairs, and the mod describes this map as being used for potion mixing.[3][5]
- Speed and slowness (cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:speed, cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:slowness).[5]
- Haste and mining fatigue (cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:haste, cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:mining_fatigue).[5]
- Instant health and instant damage (cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:instant_health, cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:instant_damage).[5]
- Luck and unluck (cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:luck, cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:unluck).[5]
- Strength and weakness (cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:strength, cauldron.inverse_potions.minecraft:weakness).[5]
Fire charges and the Dragon Charge
Amendments gives fire charges and dragon charges gravity, and lets you throw them. In this pack both are on (fireball.gravity and fireball.fire_charges_throwable). Throwing has a cooldown of 10 ticks (fireball.thrown_cooldown), which is the mod default.[3][5]
Dispensers shoot the new gravity-affected fire charges instead of blaze charges (fireball.fire_charges_dispenser_behavior is on). The mod itself warns this is technically a breaking change that could break existing contraptions while allowing new ones. Ghast and fire charge fireballs also get unique explosion particles and set things on fire on hit (fireball.improved_explosions). Punch-deflecting fire charges (fireball.deflectable) is off in the pack.[3][5]
The Dragon Charge is enabled through fireball.dragon_charge. The pack changes its crafting recipe from the mod's own, so use this one:[4][5]
This recipe is changed by the pack.
Placement and interaction tweaks
The rest of the mod is a collection of small block behaviors. These are the ones the pack's config enables or disables.[5]
- Bells: you can ring a bell by clicking a chain connected to it (bell.chain_ringing). The chain can be at most 16 blocks long for the bell to ring (bell.chain_length, the mod default).[1][5]
- Lanterns: wall lanterns are allowed (lantern.wall_lanterns), and they get high placement priority (lantern.high_priority). Ceiling lanterns fall when their support breaks (lantern.falling_lanterns is ON, with OFF and NO_FIRE also allowed). If they fall far enough they break and start a fire where they land.[5]
- Lecterns: holding a Book and Quill gives a new GUI with a Quill button and an Ink Well button. The Ink Well cycles font colors and the Quill cycles fonts (lectern.improved_screen). Lecterns can also interact with hoppers.[1][5]
- Cakes: you can eat a cake from any side (cake.directional_cake) and stack one cake on another (cake.double_cake).[5]
- Carpets: they can go on slabs (carpets.carpeted_slabs) and stairs (carpets.carpeted_stairs).[5]
- Mob heads: you can place candles on skulls (mob_head.skull_candles), more than one per skull (mob_head.multiple_candles), and stack two heads (mob_head.skull_piles).[3][5]
- Lily pads: any block can be placed on top (lily_pad.better_lilypads). The lily pad occupies the block below, turning it into a waterlogged block, and reverts when the block is removed.[1][5]
- Ceiling and hanging blocks: banners can go on ceilings (banners.ceiling_banners), hanging flower pots are allowed (flower_pot.hanging_pot), and you can put items on hanging signs (hanging_signs.items_on_signs).[5]
- Tripwire hooks: you can place tools on them (tripwire_hook.tool_hook).[5]
- Torches: they set entities on fire (torch.torch_fire) for 2 seconds (torch.torch_fire_duration). Offhand torches don't do this in the pack (torch.torch_fire_offhand is off).[5]
What the pack turns off or changes
The pack sets snowball.freeze_ticks to 0, changed from the mod default of 35, so snowballs don't freeze entities on hit. Dyeing blocks by right-clicking them with dye (misc.dye_blocks) is off, and so is the passenger suffocation protection (misc.passenger_no_suffocation).[3][5]
Client-side visuals
Several options only change how things look. The pack has these on: potion-colored brewing stands (brewing_stand.brewing_stand_colors), a unique potion cauldron texture (cauldron.potion_texture), colored tipped arrows in loaded crossbows (arrows.crossbows_colors), and chains visually attached to bells (bell.chain_attachment). general.texture_pack_support is off.[3][6]
How do you progress through Amendments?
There isn't a tier ladder to climb for Amendments in this pack. The only thing the sources confirm is a single recipe: the Dragon Charge, a shapeless crafting recipe that the pack has changed from the mod's default.[4]
This is the pack's version of the recipe, so follow this one rather than the mod's default.
Since the recipe is shapeless, you can place the ingredients anywhere in the crafting grid. Check the recipe above for exactly what goes in.[4]
Which Amendments config options matter?
4 parts
Amendments has a huge number of options, and this pack leaves almost all of them at the mod's defaults. The one value the pack actually changed is the snowball freeze time, so start there. Everything else below is how this pack sets the options you're most likely to poke at.[5][6]
The one change from the mod default
snowball.freeze_ticks is set to 0 in this pack. The mod default is 35 ticks. That option controls how long a snowball freezes an entity on hit, so in this pack snowballs don't freeze what they hit. You can set it anywhere from 0 to 1,000 if you want the freeze back.[5]
Cauldrons
- cauldron.enhanced_cauldron is true, along with cauldron.hand_crafting and cauldron.in_world_crafting. You can craft by clicking on a cauldron or by throwing items into it.[5]
- cauldron.potions_mixing is "ON". The other allowed values are OFF and ONLY_BOILING. cauldron.potion_mixing_limit is 8, the most effects a mixed potion can hold.[5]
- cauldron.dye_recipes_per_layer is 4 and cauldron.potion_recipes_per_layer is 2. These multiply the vanilla recipe amounts for how many items one cauldron layer can recolor or craft with potions.[5]
- cauldron.consistent_lava_layers is false, and cauldron.dye_water is true, so you can dye and mix cauldron water.[5]
Fire charges, torches and lanterns
- Fire charges have gravity (fireball.gravity), can be thrown (fireball.fire_charges_throwable) and are fired by dispensers (fireball.fire_charges_dispenser_behavior). The throw cooldown, fireball.thrown_cooldown, is 10 ticks.[5]
- fireball.deflectable is false, so you can't punch fire charges away.[5]
- lantern.falling_lanterns is "ON" (allowed: ON, OFF, NO_FIRE), and lantern.wall_lanterns is true.[5]
- torch.torch_fire is true with torch.torch_fire_duration at 2 seconds. torch.torch_fire_offhand is false.[5]
- misc.dye_blocks and misc.passenger_no_suffocation are both false, so you can't dye blocks with dye and riders still take suffocation damage.[5]
Client visuals
The client file mostly controls looks and performance. Where the file lists a mod default, the pack's value matches it.[6]
- hanging_sign.swinging_signs is true, and hanging_sign.item_pixel_scale is 10. The file's own comment suggests 8 to better match the sign's pixels.[6]
- lantern.fast_lanterns and tripwire_hook.fast_hooks are false. Turning either on renders faster, but you lose the lantern animation, or animated and enchanted items on hooks appear static.[6]
- sign.pixel_consistent is true, and sign.text_color_multiplier is 1.2 to brighten sign text.[6]
- projectiles.snowball_3d and projectiles.projectiles_tumble are false, so snowballs render flat. projectiles.fireball_3d is true.[6]
- lantern.lantern_item_holding_up, misc.torch_item_flame and general.texture_pack_support are all false. If you use dynamic lights, the file says raising the lantern arm angle looks better.[6]
What changed in Amendments between versions?
1 part
FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Amendments 1.21-2.1.10, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0 or earlier. Below are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. The changelogs are short, so some entries are quite vague.[7]
Changes by release
- 2.1.10 (the version in this pack): a new UI for villager trades.[7][8]
- 2.1.9: fixes for issues #367 and #447, plus a warning in chat when Enhanced Block Entities is installed.[9]
- 2.1.7: improved mod compatibility.[10]
- 2.1.4: a fix for lanterns.[11]
- 2.0.15: miscellaneous fixes.[12]
- 2.0.13: fixed the dye bottle recipe getting too excited.[13]
- 2.0.9: fixed cauldron dye.[14]
- 2.0.8: ported some fixes, and the mod no longer changes sign entity textures and models, since those aren't used anymore.[15]
