What is Amendments?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Amendments tweaks vanilla blocks to give them more functionality and better visuals, without adding brand-new features. If you like vanilla builds and decorating, this is a quality-of-life and polish mod for you.[1]
It started as a merge of several smaller mods: Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads, Better Jukeboxes and some Supplementaries features. That means you don't need to install those separately. The pack ships version 1.21-2.1.9 for NeoForge.[1][2]
What it changes
- Cauldrons can store any liquid and mix potions and dyes. Clicking one tries to craft the item in your hand with the liquid inside. Cauldrons holding water or a potion can boil over a heat source, and boiling ones can hurt you.[1]
- Lecterns get a new GUI when holding a Book and Quill, with an Ink Well button to cycle font colors and a Quill button to cycle fonts. They can also interact with hoppers.[1]
- Lanterns have a new hand-held animation and can be hung on walls, where they swing with pendulum physics. This works with any lantern.[1]
- Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces and swing with physics when attached to walls.[1]
- Jukeboxes visually show the disc they are playing, and the disc spins. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
- Carpets can be placed on slabs and stairs, and cakes can be stacked by placing two on top of each other.[1]
- Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination and can have candles placed on top, which leave a wax overlay.[1]
- Lilypads can have any block placed on them, and brewing stands color their potion bottles to match what they hold.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
There is no progression gate here. It isn't a tech or magic chain you have to climb. The changes work as you play and make everyday vanilla blocks nicer to use and build with.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show any quests or ATM Star path steps for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Any pack-specific config changes for it are unconfirmed.
How do you get started with Amendments?
3 parts
Amendments is a tweak mod: it changes how many vanilla blocks look and behave instead of piling on new content. That means there is very little to craft first. The one in-pack recipe for an Amendments item is the Dragon Charge, so that is where we start.[1][3]
Step 1: Make a Dragon Charge
The pack changed this recipe, so go by what the block shows, not by the mod's defaults.
The mod has an option that adds the Dragon Charge item. It also has options that let fire and dragon charges be thrown, give them gravity, and set a cooldown for throwing them in ticks. The sources here do not show the values the pack uses for those, so test it in a creative world before you rely on it.[3][4]
Then check the lantern settings
Lanterns are the part of the pack's Amendments config that I can show you directly. These are the values the pack sets:[5]
- lantern.wall_lanterns is true, so wall lantern placement is allowed.[5]
- lantern.falling_lanterns is "OFF" (the allowed values are ON, OFF and NO_FIRE), so ceiling lanterns do not fall when their support is broken.[5]
- lantern.high_priority is true, so wall lantern placement overrides other wall lantern placements.[5]
- lantern.id_whitelist contains enlightened_end:xenon_lantern, a block that is not detected as a lantern but should be treated as one.[5]
- lantern.mod_blacklist lists mods whose lantern blocks extend the base lantern class but do not look like one: bbb, extlights, betterendforge, spelunkery, galosphere, tconstruct, enigmaticlegacy and beautify.[5]
Step 3: Poke around the vanilla blocks
The rest of Amendments works on blocks you already have. According to the mod's project page, cauldrons can mix potions and dyes, lecterns get a new GUI with quill and ink well buttons, carpets can go on slabs and stairs, and cakes can be stacked. Whether the pack keeps every one of these on is not shown in the sources here, so try them in your world.[1]
How does Amendments work?
5 parts
Amendments doesn't add a pile of new machines. It tweaks vanilla blocks and makes them more functional, so the mechanics here are about how familiar blocks behave. The deepest system by far is the cauldron, so we'll start there.[1]
Cauldrons
With this mod a cauldron can store any liquid, and you can use it to mix potions and dyes. Click a cauldron while holding an item and it will try to craft that item with the liquid inside.[1]
The mod splits this into separate options. One lets you craft by clicking the cauldron, and another lets you craft by throwing items into it. Potion mixing and dyed cauldron water (bedrock style, and the colors can be mixed too) are also their own toggles.[4]
- Mixing limit: one option sets the max number of effects allowed in a mixed potion.[4]
- Inverse potions: a map of potion ids to their inverse ids, which potion mixing uses.[4]
- Items per layer: the dye and potion crafting options set how many items one cauldron layer can recolor or craft with potions. Both are multipliers on top of the vanilla crafting recipe amount.[4]
- Lava layers: with the consistent lava layers option, a dripstone drop adds only 1 layer to a cauldron instead of a full bottle, just like a water cauldron.[4]
Cauldrons holding water or a potion can boil if there is a heat source below them, and boiling cauldrons can inflict boiling damage. Stepping into a cauldron of splash or lingering potion applies that potion to you.[1]
What counts as a heat source
The mod defines a heat source block tag. It includes lava, magma blocks, campfires and fire. It also includes optional entries from other mods, such as the Create blaze burner and a few blocks from Supplementaries, Botania, Malum and Spectrum. It also pulls in Farmer's Delight's heat sources tag.[6]
Not every liquid behaves the same way. Lava, powder snow and Alex's Caves acid are listed as unable to boil. Lava and acid are also listed as unable to extinguish. The mod's tags also list powder snow and water as fluids that don't go into the liquid cauldron, and the stews and soups (mushroom, suspicious, rabbit and beetroot) as fluids that get no tint in a cauldron. Potion is listed as a fluid that can glow.[7][8][9][10][11]
If you break one of the mod's dye or liquid cauldron blocks, it drops a plain cauldron.[12][13]
The mod also has a structure tag for adding potion cauldrons. It lists the gingerbread house from Snowy Spirit, the Better Witch Huts witch hut, the Repurposed Structures witch huts and vanilla swamp huts.[14]
Unverified The pack's values for the cauldron options (crafting toggles, mixing limit, layers per recipe) aren't shown in the available config data, so check the config file in game before relying on a default.
Fire charges and the Dragon Charge
The mod gives fire charges and dragon charges gravity, and lets you throw them with a cooldown measured in ticks. You can also deflect fire charges by punching them. Ghast and fire charge explosions get unique particles and set things on fire on hit.[4]
Dispensers can shoot the gravity-affected fire charges instead of blaze charges. The mod's own description warns that this can break existing contraptions while allowing new ones, so watch your automation.[4]
The Dragon Charge is the mod's one new item, and this pack changed its recipe from the mod's own. Here is the in-pack version:[3][4]
Lanterns, as the pack sets them
Lanterns can be hung on walls, work with any lantern, and swing with pendulum physics. In this pack, lantern.wall_lanterns is true, so wall placement is on. lantern.high_priority is also true, so wall lantern placement overrides other wall lantern placements. Turn it off if it clashes with mods that use lower priority block click events.[1][5]
Falling lanterns are off here. lantern.falling_lanterns is set to "OFF", and the other allowed values are ON and NO_FIRE. When enabled, ceiling lanterns fall if their support breaks, and from high enough they break and start a fire where they land.[5]
- lantern.id_whitelist lists block ids that aren't detected as lanterns but should be. The pack adds the Enlightened End xenon lantern.[5]
- lantern.mod_blacklist lists mods whose lantern blocks extend the base lantern class but don't look like one. The pack lists bbb, extlights, betterendforge, spelunkery, galosphere, tconstruct, enigmaticlegacy and beautify.[5]
Lecterns and other block tweaks
A lectern holding a Book and Quill gets a new screen with a Quill button and an Ink Well button. The Ink Well cycles font colors and the Quill cycles fonts. Lecterns can also interact with hoppers. The lectern item tag covers written books, writable books and Map Atlases atlases.[1][15]
- Carpets on stairs: the stairs carpet tag includes wool carpets and moss carpet, plus optional modded carpets. It removes the Hexerei infused fabric carpets, waxed and unwaxed, ornate and plain.[16]
- Skulls: mob heads can be stacked and can hold candles with a wax overlay. The non-stackable heads tag lists the dragon head and the Supplementaries enderman head.[1][17]
- Torches: the sets on fire item tag lists torches, soul torches, flint and steel and various modded torches.[18]
- Tripwire hooks: an item tag lists things that go in a tripwire hook, including the spyglass, the brush and a range of modded wands, rods and tools.[19]
- Banners: a block tag lists the ceiling banner in each dye color.[20]
How do you progress through Amendments?
2 parts
Amendments has no tier ladder to climb in this pack. The recipe dump for the mod shows a single crafting recipe, so there is no step-by-step path here, just one item with a pack-specific recipe.[3]
Dragon Charge
Dragon Charge is the one Amendments item with a recipe in this pack. It is a shapeless crafting recipe, and the pack has changed it, so don't assume it matches the standalone mod. The exact in-pack recipe is below.[3]
This is the pack's changed version of the recipe, and it is crafted shapeless.
Cauldron heat sources
If you use the mod's cauldron features, the mod has a tag of blocks that count as heat sources for a cauldron. It includes lava, magma blocks, campfires and fire. It also lists blocks from other mods, such as the Create blaze burner, which only apply when those mods are installed.[6]
Which Amendments config options matter?
1 part
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Amendments has a lot of settings, but the ones you're most likely to touch are the lantern options in config/amendments-common.toml. Here's exactly how this pack sets them.[21]
Lantern options
- lantern.wall_lanterns is true in this pack, so you can place lanterns on walls. This is the mod's headline lantern feature, and it works with any lantern.[1][21]
- lantern.high_priority is true in this pack. It gives wall lantern placement high priority, so it overrides other wall lantern placements. If it ever causes trouble with another mod that uses lower-priority block click events, this is the option to switch off.[21]
- lantern.falling_lanterns is set to "OFF" in this pack. The allowed values are ON, OFF and NO_FIRE. When it's enabled, ceiling lanterns fall if their support is broken, and if they fall from high enough they break and start a fire where they land. With OFF, that behavior is disabled.[21]
- lantern.id_whitelist is set to ["enlightened_end:xenon_lantern"] in this pack. It lists blocks that aren't detected as lanterns but should be, so the Xenon Lantern from Enlightened End is treated as one.[21]
- lantern.mod_blacklist is set to bbb, extlights, betterendforge, spelunkery, galosphere, tconstruct, enigmaticlegacy and beautify in this pack. These are mods with lantern blocks that extend the base lantern class but don't look like lanterns, so Amendments leaves them alone.[21]
Unverified The sources don't list the mod's own default values, so I can't say which of these settings the pack changed from the defaults. The values above are what the pack uses.
What changed in Amendments between versions?
All the Mods 10 8.2 ships Amendments 1.21-2.1.10. The mod was already in the pack by 0.49 or earlier. Here are the notable changes, newest first. Pack updates are paired with the mod's own changelog entries where one exists.[22]
- Pack 8.2 moved Amendments from 1.21-2.1.9 to 1.21-2.1.10. That release adds a new UI for villager trades.[23][24]
- Pack 8.1 moved the mod from 1.21-2.1.7 to 1.21-2.1.9. The 2.1.9 changelog lists fixes for issues #367 and #447 (no details given) and a chat warning when Enhanced Block Entities is installed.[25][26]
- Pack 7.2 moved the mod from 1.21-2.1.1 to 1.21-2.1.7. The 2.1.7 changelog says it improved mod compat.[27][28]
- Pack 7.1 moved the mod from 1.21-2.0.15 to 1.21-2.1.1. Version 2.1.1 added a feature that stops mounted mobs from taking suffocation damage.[29][30]
- Pack 5.5 moved the mod from 1.21-2.0.9 to 1.21-2.0.15. The 2.0.15 changelog just says misc fixes.[31][32]
- Pack 5.2 moved the mod from 1.21-2.0.8 to 1.21-2.0.9. This fixed cauldron dye.[33][34]
- Pack 4.12 moved the mod from 1.21-2.0.5 to 1.21-2.0.8. The 2.0.8 changelog says it ported some fixes and no longer changes sign entity textures and models, because those aren't used anymore.[35][36]
- The mod's 2.0.5 changelog lists updated Supplementaries Squared compat, a fixed crash with the lectern menu, some added compat tags and improved wall lantern interact logic.[37]
- Pack 4.7 was the jump from 1.21-1.2.24 to 1.21-2.0.4. The 2.0.4 changelog lists a fix for stew recipes giving less than intended and a flipped top UV on signs.[38][39]
- Pack 2.39 moved the mod from 1.21-1.2.23 to 1.21-1.2.24. That release updated Blueprint compat and removed Flywheel compat, which the changelog says is no longer needed because the bell instance code is no longer in Flywheel.[40][41][42]
- Pack 2.36 moved the mod from 1.21-1.2.22 to 1.21-1.2.23. The 1.2.22 changelog fixed fletchers having potion cauldrons instead of dye, made bells trigger observers when rung by a projectile or chain, fixed a crash with carpeted slabs and falling entities, fixed a double cake interaction when holding cake, and updated Etched compat.[43][44]
Some releases in between, such as 1.2.23, have no changelog text in the sources, so I can't say what changed in them.[38][43]
