What is Amendments?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Amendments tweaks vanilla blocks to give them more functionality and better visuals, without adding brand-new features. If you like vanilla builds and decorating, this is a quality-of-life and polish mod for you.[1]

It started as a merge of several smaller mods: Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads, Better Jukeboxes and some Supplementaries features. That means you don't need to install those separately. The pack ships version 1.21-2.1.9 for NeoForge.[1][2]

What it changes

  • Cauldrons can store any liquid and mix potions and dyes. Clicking one tries to craft the item in your hand with the liquid inside. Cauldrons holding water or a potion can boil over a heat source, and boiling ones can hurt you.[1]
  • Lecterns get a new GUI when holding a Book and Quill, with an Ink Well button to cycle font colors and a Quill button to cycle fonts. They can also interact with hoppers.[1]
  • Lanterns have a new hand-held animation and can be hung on walls, where they swing with pendulum physics. This works with any lantern.[1]
  • Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces and swing with physics when attached to walls.[1]
  • Jukeboxes visually show the disc they are playing, and the disc spins. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
  • Carpets can be placed on slabs and stairs, and cakes can be stacked by placing two on top of each other.[1]
  • Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination and can have candles placed on top, which leave a wax overlay.[1]
  • Lilypads can have any block placed on them, and brewing stands color their potion bottles to match what they hold.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

There is no progression gate here. It isn't a tech or magic chain you have to climb. The changes work as you play and make everyday vanilla blocks nicer to use and build with.[1]

Tip: The mod is described as very configurable, and its project page points to a Customization section in its wiki for disabling or tweaking features. Check that wiki, but remember the pack may use different settings than the mod's defaults.[1]

Unverified The sources don't show any quests or ATM Star path steps for this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found. Any pack-specific config changes for it are unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Amendments?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 2.12 guide

Here's the good news: this mod adds no new items and no new recipes to craft. It tweaks vanilla blocks you already know, giving them more functionality and better visuals. Getting started just means making the vanilla blocks you'd build anyway and trying out what they can do now.[1]

Tip: Since the mod works on existing vanilla blocks, there's nothing to unlock and no crafting chain to follow. As soon as you place one of the affected blocks, its new behaviour is there.[1]

Try these first

  1. Hold a lantern. You'll see a new 3D holding animation in both first and third person. You can also hang any lantern on a wall, where it swings with pendulum physics.[1]
  2. Set up a cauldron. It can store any liquid, and it can mix potions and dyes. Click it with an item in your hand and it tries to craft that item with the liquid inside.[1]
  3. Put a heat source under a cauldron holding water or a potion and it boils. Be careful: boiling cauldrons can deal boiling damage. Stepping into a cauldron with a splash or lingering potion applies that potion to you.[1]
  4. Decorate your base. Carpets and moss carpets can go on slabs and stairs. Banners and pots can go on ceilings. Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces.[1]
  5. Put a Book and Quill on a lectern for a new GUI. The Quill button cycles through fonts and the Ink Well button cycles through font colours. Lecterns can now work with hoppers too.[1]

Small touches worth knowing

  • Jukeboxes show the disc they are playing, and the disc spins while it plays. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
  • You can place any block on a lilypad. When you remove the block, the lilypad goes back to normal.[1]
  • Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination and can have candles on top, which leave a wax overlay on the skull.[1]
  • You can stack cakes by placing one on top of another, and vanilla cakes can be rotated.[1]
  • Brewing stands colour their bottles to match the potions inside.[1]
  • Bells visually connect to chains and ropes below them, and you can ring a bell by clicking the chain or rope.[1]

Unverified The mod is very configurable, and this pack's config values aren't in the sources for this section. So it's not confirmed that every feature above is enabled in this pack. If something doesn't work, the pack may have turned it off.

How does Amendments work?

8 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 1.18 guide

Amendments doesn't add machines, multiblocks or power systems. Instead it reworks vanilla blocks you already know, giving them more functionality and better visuals without adding new features on top. So the core mechanics here are about how familiar blocks like cauldrons, lecterns and lanterns behave differently once the mod is installed.[1]

The mod was created by merging several older mods: Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads, Better Jukeboxes and some Supplementaries features. If you remember any of those, you'll recognise a lot of what follows.[1]

Cauldrons: fluids, mixing and boiling

The cauldron gets the biggest upgrade and is the closest thing the mod has to a fluid-handling system. An Amendments cauldron can store any liquid, not just water, lava and powder snow.[1]

  • You can use the cauldron to mix potions and to mix dyes.[1]
  • If you click the cauldron with an item, it tries to craft that item using the liquid inside, so the cauldron works like a simple crafting station.[1]
  • A cauldron holding water or a potion can boil if there's a heat source below it.[1]
  • Boiling cauldrons can deal boiling damage, so be careful where you walk.[1]
  • If you step into a cauldron holding a splash or lingering potion, that potion's effect is applied to you.[1]
Watch out: Boiling cauldrons can hurt you. If you put a heat source under a cauldron of water or potion, stay out of it.[1]

Cauldrons also get improved animations, with splash and bubble particles when something falls in, plus sounds that vanilla was missing. The model is improved too, with translucency and ambient occlusion.[1]

Lecterns: writing tools and hopper automation

If you put a Book and Quill on a lectern, you get a new GUI with a Quill button and an Ink Well button. Click the Ink Well to cycle through the available font colours, and click the Quill to cycle through the available fonts.[1]

For automation, the key change is that lecterns can now interact with hoppers.[1]

Unverified The sources don't explain exactly how lecterns and hoppers interact, for example whether hoppers insert books, extract them, or both. Test it in your world before building a system around it.

Lanterns

Lanterns get a new 3D animation when you hold them, in both first and third person. You can also hang any lantern on a wall, and a hanging lantern swings with pendulum physics.[1]

Hanging signs

Hanging signs can hold any item on both faces. With Supplementaries installed, they can also show banner patterns. A hanging sign attached to a wall swings with physics, and one attached to a fence, wall or similar block shows a visual connection to it.[1]

Lilypads: placing blocks on water

You can place any block on a lilypad. The lilypad takes over the block below it, turning it into a waterlogged block, and changes back when you remove the block on top. The mod says it can be made to work with any lilypad, but it's still asking for feedback on that.[1]

Stacking and placement tweaks

  • Carpets, including moss carpets, can be placed on slabs and stairs.[1]
  • You can stack cakes by placing one on top of another, and this works with any cake. Vanilla cakes can also be rotated.[1]
  • Mob skulls can be stacked in any combination, and this works with any skull. You can place candles on top, and a candle leaves a wax overlay on the skull.[1]
  • Banners and pots can be placed on ceilings.[1]

Visual feedback on other blocks

  • Jukeboxes get a new model, show the disc they're playing, and spin the disc while it plays. This works with any disc, modded or not.[1]
  • Brewing stands colour their potion bottles to match what they're holding, so you can see what's inside at a glance.[1]
  • Bells can visually connect to chains and ropes below them, and you can ring a bell by clicking the chain or rope below it.[1]

Configuration in this pack

Amendments is described as very configurable, and individual features can be disabled or tweaked.[1]

Unverified No Amendments config files were available for this pack, so it's unconfirmed which of the features above are enabled here or whether any settings differ from the mod's defaults. It's also unconfirmed whether every listed feature, such as hanging sign support, exists in the mod version used for this Minecraft version.

How do you progress through Amendments?

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

There isn't a tier ladder to climb for Amendments in this pack. The only thing the sources confirm is a single recipe: the Dragon Charge, a shapeless crafting recipe that the pack has changed from the mod's default.[3]

Dragon ChargeChanged by the pack

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: amendments:dragon_charge

This is the pack's version of the recipe, so follow this one rather than the mod's default.

Since the recipe is shapeless, you can place the ingredients anywhere in the crafting grid. Check the recipe above for exactly what goes in.[3]

Which Amendments config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 guide

Amendments has a huge number of options, and this pack leaves almost all of them at the mod's defaults. The one value the pack actually changed is the snowball freeze time, so start there. Everything else below is how this pack sets the options you're most likely to poke at.[4][5]

The one change from the mod default

snowball.freeze_ticks is set to 0 in this pack. The mod default is 35 ticks. That option controls how long a snowball freezes an entity on hit, so in this pack snowballs don't freeze what they hit. You can set it anywhere from 0 to 1,000 if you want the freeze back.[4]

Cauldrons

Fire charges, torches and lanterns

Client visuals

The client file mostly controls looks and performance. Where the file lists a mod default, the pack's value matches it.[5]

What changed in Amendments between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.20.1 ships Amendments 1.21-2.1.9 (the file amendments-1.21-2.1.9-neoforge.jar), and the mod was already in the pack in 1.0.0 or earlier. The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's changelogs.[6]

Mod changelog highlights

The notes are short, but here is what the author listed, newest first. The pack includes the 2.1.9 build, so every change here is already in your game.[6][7]

  • 2.1.9: fixes for issues #367 and #447, plus a new warning in chat when Enhanced Block Entities is installed.[7]
  • 2.1.7: improved mod compatibility.[8]
  • 2.1.4: a lantern fix.[9]
  • 2.0.15: miscellaneous fixes.[10]
  • 2.0.13: fixed the dye bottle recipe "getting too excited", which is the changelog's own wording.[11]
  • 2.0.9: fixed cauldron dye.[12]
  • 2.0.8: ported some fixes, and the mod no longer changes sign entity textures and models, because those aren't used anymore.[13]

The changelogs don't say what the two numbered issues in 2.1.9 were, so I can't tell you more about those fixes.[7]
