What is Functional Storage?
1 part
Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide
Functional Storage is the drawer mod in this pack. The pack ships version 1.21.1-1.5.8, and the mod has been included since 1.1.0 or earlier.[1]
Drawers hold lots of items in a small space. The quest book says a standard Drawer that holds one type of item can hold around 2,000 items at its base amount, and upgrades raise that. Here is what the quest book covers for the mod:[2]
- Looks: Framed Drawer (1x1) and the other framed drawers let you change a drawer's textures by crafting it together with other items. See "Framed Drawers" quest.[2]
- Fluids: Fluid Drawer (1x1), Fluid Drawer (1x2) and Fluid Drawer (2x2) store fluids. You can set one by pumping fluid in or by using a bucket on it. See "Fluid Drawers" quest.[2]
- Compacting: Compacting Drawer stores an item and converts it into its compressed versions. Simple Compacting Drawer handles items that only use a base and block recipe. See "Compacting Drawers" quest.[2]
- Upgrades: size upgrades such as Copper Upgrade and Netherite Upgrade, utility upgrades such as Puller Upgrade, and Void Upgrade for dumping overflow. See "Storage Size Upgrades" quest, "Utility Upgrades" quest and "Void Upgrade" quest.[2]
- Networks: the Linking Tool connects drawers to a Storage Controller, and Ender Drawer links drawers across dimensions. See "Storage Controllers" quest and "Ender Drawers" quest.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
Functional Storage quests live in the "General Storage" chapter. It is chapter 7 of 31 in the book, in the "Resources & Logistics" group, and it has 146 quests. The chapter opens with "General Storage Options" quest, which says it covers most of the basic ways to store your items.[2]
The chapter also covers other storage options: Sophisticated Backpacks, Sophisticated Storage, Pocket Storage, Ender Storage and an Applied Energistics start. Most of the Functional Storage quests shown here, including the framed, fluid, compacting, generator and upgrade quests, come after a quest called "Functional Drawers". "Storage Controllers" quest and "Ender Drawers" quest come after "Linking Drawers" quest. The Applied Energistics "Storage Bus" quest quest comes after ME Interface and mentions the Storage Controller from this mod.[2]
The text of 124 of the chapter's 146 quests is not shown in the material for this guide, so check the quest book in game for the rest.[2]
How do you get started with Functional Storage?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide
Functional Storage is all about putting tons of one item into a single block. In this pack its quests live in the General Storage chapter, which is chapter 7 of 31 in the book, in the Resources & Logistics group. The entry point is "Functional Drawers" quest, and the other drawer quests unlock after it. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[2]
Step one: make a basic drawer
Start with a plain drawer such as Oak Drawer (1x1). Drawers come as single, 1x2 and 2x2 versions. A 2x2 drawer holds 4 separate items, but the base storage amount is divided by 4. Do this first, because many of the tools and upgrades below use a drawer as one of their ingredients.[2][3]

To fill a drawer, right-click it with the item, and double right-click to deposit several stacks at once. Left-click takes out 1 item, and Sneak + Left-click pulls a full stack.[2]
Step two: get the Configuration Tool
The Configuration Tool locks a drawer so it only deals with certain items, which matters once you start automating. It also has modes, like hiding the item count or turning off item rendering on a drawer to save FPS. Sneak-use it in the air to change modes. The pack changed this recipe, so check the one below rather than the mod's default. The quest is "Configuring Drawers" quest.[2][3]

Step three: add storage size upgrades
A standard single-item drawer holds around 2,000 items at its base amount. Upgrades such as the Copper Upgrade multiply that, and the upgrades stack. Most drawers take 4 of these size upgrades, of any tier. The higher tiers are Gold Upgrade, Diamond Upgrade and Netherite Upgrade. The pack changed the Gold and Diamond recipes, so check those in-game.[2][3]

Step four: build a drawer wall with a controller
Once you have several drawers, the Storage Controller connects and controls them all at once. Double right-click it to dump your whole inventory into the linked drawers. You can also pipe items into it.[2]

To link drawers you need the Linking Tool, which the pack has also given its own recipe. Sneak-use the tool on the controller first, then use it on each drawer you want to add. The matching quests are "Linking Drawers" quest and "Storage Controllers" quest.[2][3]

Where to go next
- Void Upgrade automatically voids items above the current stack limit. It's handy for farms and quarries, but anything over the limit is destroyed. See "Void Upgrade" quest.[2]
- Compacting drawers such as Compacting Drawer store items together with their compressed versions. See "Compacting Drawers" quest.[2]
- Collector Upgrade picks items up off the ground, while Puller Upgrade and Pusher Upgrade pull from and push to adjacent inventories.[2]
- Framed Drawer (1x1) and the other framed drawers let you change how a drawer looks. See "Framed Drawers" quest.[2]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Functional Storage?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 guide
All the Functional Storage quests live in the "General Storage" chapter. It is chapter 7 of 31 in the "Resources & Logistics" group of the quest book, and it has 146 quests. The chapter also covers other storage options like backpacks, Sophisticated Storage, Applied Energistics and Refined Storage 2, so the drawer quests sit in their own branch. Thirteen of the chapter's quests aren't covered in this guide for lack of room, so check the quest book for those.[2]
The starting quest
Everything begins with "Functional Drawers" quest. It explains that drawers come in three varieties: single, 1x2 and 2x2. A 2x2 drawer holds 4 separate items, but the base storage is divided by 4. You right-click to insert, double right-click to deposit several stacks, left-click to take 1 item and sneak + left-click to take a full stack.[2]
Quests that unlock after it
Most of the other drawer quests unlock straight after the starting quest, so you can tackle them in whatever order suits your base.[2]
- "Framed Drawers" quest asks for any framed drawer, such as Framed Drawer (1x1) or Framed Drawer (2x2). The quest text says the four crafting slots set the outside texture, inside texture, framed drawer and divider texture.[2]
- "Configuring Drawers" quest asks for the Configuration Tool, which locks drawers to certain items. Used on a controller, it locks every linked drawer at once.[2]
- "Linking Drawers" quest asks for the Linking Tool, which you need for a drawer wall.[2]
- "Drawer Generators" quest asks for one of the Dripping Upgrade, Water Generator Upgrade or Obsidian Generator Upgrade. The quest says they help generate water, lava and obsidian.[2]
- "Fluid Drawers" quest asks for a fluid drawer (Fluid Drawer (1x1), Fluid Drawer (1x2) or Fluid Drawer (2x2)). You set the fluid by pumping it in or using a bucket on the drawer.[2]
- "Utility Upgrades" quest asks for the Collector Upgrade, Puller Upgrade or Pusher Upgrade.[2]
- "Storage Size Upgrades" quest asks for a size upgrade: Copper Upgrade, Gold Upgrade, Diamond Upgrade or Netherite Upgrade. The quest says a standard one-item drawer holds around 2,000 items at base, upgrades stack, and most drawers take 4 of them.[2]
- "Compacting Drawers" quest asks for the Simple Compacting Drawer or Compacting Drawer. The simple version only handles items that have a base and block recipe.[2]
- "Void Upgrade" quest asks for the Void Upgrade, which voids items above the stack limit. The quest suggests it for farms and quarries.[2]
After Linking Drawers
Two quests unlock after "Linking Drawers" quest. "Storage Controllers" quest asks for a Storage Controller (or the Framed Storage Controller) plus a Controller Access Point (or the Framed Controller Access Point). Once drawers are linked, you can double right-click the controller to deposit your whole inventory.[2]
"Ender Drawers" quest asks for the Ender Drawer. You link two of them with the Linking Tool so the items can be reached across dimensions.[2]
