What is Refined Types?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.10 guide
Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It adds support for FE, Source and Souls in various Refined Storage components, so your storage network can handle more than items and fluids.[1]
What it does
With this addon you can store, transfer, view and autocraft with these resources through Refined Storage components.[1]
- FE: Forge Energy, the energy resource.[1]
- Source: the resource from Ars Nouveau.[1]
- Souls: the resource from Industrial Foregoing: Souls.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Refined Types version 1.21.1-0.1.3. It has been part of the pack since version 4.6 or earlier, so it is a long-standing inclusion rather than a new one.[2]
Unverified Where the quest book places Refined Types is not shown by the sources here: no quest chapter or group involving this mod is listed, and it is not shown as part of the ATM Star path. There is also no in-jar guidebook to check.
How do you get started with Refined Types?
4 parts
Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It lets your storage network hold FE, Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls, not just items and fluids. You can store, transfer, view and autocraft them like anything else on the network.[1]
The nice part is that the whole mod follows one pattern. You pick a resource type, craft its disk, and drop it in a Disk Drive. Everything else is just bigger versions of the same thing.[3]
Your first steps
- Decide which resource you want to store first: FE (energy), Source or Soul. Each type has its own line of storage parts, disks and blocks, with sizes that climb in tiers.[1][4]
- Get the matching storage part. The disk recipes shown in this pack use a storage part of the same type and tier, so you need the part before the disk.[4]
- Craft the disk for that type. The mod's own advancements ask you to craft an Energy, Source or Soul Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive, which makes a good first goal.[3]
- Later, craft a storage block if you want the same storage built into a placeable block instead of a disk.[4]
- Upgrade by combining a disk or block with a higher-tier part of the same type.[3]
The disks
Here is one example disk for each resource type: energy, source and soul. The energy disk uses the mod's own recipe. The source and soul disks use recipes the pack has changed, so follow these rather than any mod default you may remember.[4]

Storage blocks
If you would rather have a placeable block, take the 64K Energy Storage Block as an example. The pack has changed its recipe, and it also needs a Machine Casing from Refined Storage.[4]

Keeping the network powered with FE
The Network Energizer automatically consumes stored energy from Energy Disks on the network to keep the network running. When it is inactive, the network does not consume any energy from Energy Disks to sustain it.[3]
How does Refined Types work?
6 parts
Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It lets Refined Storage components store, transfer, view and autocraft with extra resource types: FE (energy), Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls. Mana from Botania is listed as planned, so don't count on it.[1]
Storage disks and blocks
Each resource type has its own storage disk. The mod's advancements tell you to craft an Energy, Soul or Source Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive. That is how you add the resource to your network.[3]
There are also storage blocks for each type, built around a Machine Casing. Disks and blocks can be upgraded to a higher tier by combining them with a Storage Part of the matching type.[3]
If a disk or block is empty, use it while holding it to get its parts back. A disk returns its Storage Part. A block returns the Storage Part and the Machine Casing.[3]
Keeping the network powered
The Network Energizer automatically consumes stored energy from Energy Disks inside the network to keep that network running. It has a redstone mode. While the device is inactive, the storage network does not consume any energy from Energy Disks to sustain it.[3]
Usage values per tier
Every storage block tier has its own usage option, for example energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage, with matching options for Source and Soul blocks. Each option is described as the energy (or source) used by that block. The pack leaves all of these at the mod defaults, and the range for each is 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[3][5]
Energy blocks go from 2 for the 64K block, through 4 for 256K, 6 for 1024K, 8 for 8192K, 10 for 65536K, 12 for 262144K and 14 for 1048576K, up to 16 for the 8388608K block.[3][4][5]
Source blocks follow the same curve. The 64B block uses 2 and the 8388608B block uses 16.[3][5]
Soul blocks run from 2 for the 1K block, through 4 for 8K, 6 for 64K, 8 for 512K, 10 for 4096K, 12 for 32768K and 14 for 262144K, up to 16 for the 2097152K block.[3][4][5]
Infinite and creative variants
Infinite Energy, Soul and Source disks and blocks store an unlimited amount of their resource. Their usage setting is 18 for all of these types in the pack. Creative versions also exist and come with an infinite amount already stored.[3][5]
Crafting the blocks
The pack changes the recipes for the Refined Types storage blocks, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here are the in-pack recipes for 64K Energy Storage Block, 64B Source Storage Block and 1K Soul Storage Block. The other tiers have their own recipes in the same format.[4]

How do you progress through Refined Types?
4 parts
Refined Types adds storage tiers in this pack for Source, Energy and Soul. Progression is a ladder of storage parts: each tier has a part, and that part is what you turn into a disk or a block.[4]
The tier ladders
Each storage type has its own ladder, and each ladder ends in an Infinite tier. The sources list the Infinite tier only as a part and a block, so an Infinite disk is not confirmed here.[4]
- Source tiers: 64B Source Storage Part, 256B, 1024B, 8192B, 65536B, 262144B, 1048576B, then 8388608B Source Storage Part, and finally Infinite Source Storage Part.[4]
- Energy tiers: 64K Energy Storage Part, 256K, 1024K, 8192K, 65536K, 262144K, 1048576K, then 8388608K Energy Storage Part, and finally Infinite Energy Storage Part.[4]
- Soul tiers: 1K Soul Storage Part, 8K, 64K, 512K, 4096K, 32768K, 262144K, then 2097152K Soul Storage Part, and finally Infinite Soul Storage Part.[4]
From part to disk
The part is the key ingredient for the finished disk. Take the first Source tier: the 64B Source Storage Part becomes the 64B Source Storage Disk. The pack changes this recipe.[4]

Recipe id: refinedtypes:disk/64b_source_storage_disk
Source disks in the sources shown follow this pattern, using the matching part for each tier.
The Energy disks are the exception. Their recipes are the mod's own, for example the 64K Energy Storage Disk, and the pack has not touched them.[4]

| any glass blocks | any redstone dust | any glass blocks |
| any redstone dust | any redstone dust | |
Recipe id: refinedtypes:disk/64k_energy_storage_disk
This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
From part to block
Storage blocks also use a Refined Storage Machine Casing alongside the part, so a block is a bigger step than a disk. Source and Soul blocks share one recipe pattern, while Energy blocks use a different set of ingredients. The pack changes all of the block recipes shown.[4]

The top of each ladder works the same way. The Infinite Energy Storage Block is crafted from the Infinite Energy part, not from a stack of lower blocks.[4]

The Infinite Energy block is crafted from the Infinite Energy part.
What to do first
- Pick the storage type you need and start at its lowest tier, for example the 1K Soul Storage Part for Soul.[4]
- Craft the disk or block for that tier from its part, using the recipe blocks above as your pattern.[4]
- Move up the ladder one part at a time, until you reach the Infinite tier.[4]
Unverified The sources here show no quests for Refined Types, so the pack's quest book gives no confirmed path for this progression. Follow the part ladders above instead.
How does Refined Types work with other mods?
3 parts
Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It adds FE, Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls as resource types you can store, transfer, view and autocraft in your network. Botania mana is listed as planned, not as currently supported. In this pack, the links to other mods that show up in recipes are built around Refined Storage parts, plus one Ars Nouveau item at the very start of Source storage.[1][4]
Refined Storage: the backbone
The Network Energizer is made from a Refined Storage Interface and a copper storage block. The pack changed this recipe.[4]

Every storage disk follows one pattern: a Storage Housing plus the matching storage part gives you the disk. The Energy disks use the mod's own recipe, while the Source and Soul disks were changed by the pack.[4]
The storage blocks also need a Machine Casing plus the matching part. Source and Soul blocks use a redstone block, and Energy blocks use a copper storage block instead. All of these block recipes were changed by the pack.[4]

Processors and tiers
Above the smallest tier, each storage part is crafted from the previous tier's part plus a Refined Storage processor, and the processor gets better as the tier climbs. The Basic Processor appears in the 256B Source Storage Part and 256K Energy Storage Part recipes. The Improved Processor appears in the 1024B Source Storage Part, 1024K Energy Storage Part and 64K Soul Storage Part recipes. The Advanced Processor is used for the larger Source, Energy and Soul parts.[4]
Each of these part recipes also takes a storage block of a vanilla material, and the material changes with the tier. Gold shows up in the lower upgrades, emerald and diamond in the higher ones, and the 2097152K Soul Storage Part needs netherite. All of these part recipes were changed by the pack.[4]

Ars Nouveau: where Source starts
The first Source tier is where Ars Nouveau comes in. The 64B Source Storage Part is crafted with Magebloom Fiber, so you need that item before you can start on Source storage. The pack changed this recipe.[4]

Which Refined Types config options matter?
3 parts
Good news: there's very little to tweak here, and the pack hasn't touched any of it. Everything in Refined Types that you can configure lives in one file, refinedtypes-common.toml, with options like energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage. Every value in this pack matches the mod default, so nothing was changed from the mod's own numbers.[5]
The file has one usage option for each tier of the energy, soul and source storage blocks. That fits what the mod adds: Refined Storage support for FE, Source (Ars Nouveau) and Souls (Industrial Foregoing Souls). Every option accepts a value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[1][5]
Energy storage blocks
The lowest energy tier is set to 2 in energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage. The value goes up tier by tier, as the list below shows.[5]
- energyStorageBlock.256KEnergyUsage: 4[5]
- energyStorageBlock.1024KEnergyUsage: 6[5]
- energyStorageBlock.8192KEnergyUsage: 8[5]

- energyStorageBlock.8388608KEnergyUsage: 16[5]
- energyStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage: 18[5]
Soul storage blocks
The soul blocks have their own tier ladder. Its lowest tier is set to 2 in soulStorageBlock.1KEnergyUsage, and the rest follow below.[5]
- soulStorageBlock.8KEnergyUsage: 4[5]
- soulStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage: 6[5]
- soulStorageBlock.512KEnergyUsage: 8[5]
- soulStorageBlock.4096KEnergyUsage: 10[5]

- soulStorageBlock.262144KEnergyUsage: 14[5]
- soulStorageBlock.2097152KEnergyUsage: 16[5]
- soulStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage: 18[5]
Source storage blocks
Source blocks follow the same pattern as the energy ones. The lowest tier is set to 2 in sourceStorageBlock.64BSourceUsage.[5]
- sourceStorageBlock.256BSourceUsage: 4[5]
- sourceStorageBlock.1024BSourceUsage: 6[5]
- sourceStorageBlock.8192BSourceUsage: 8[5]
- sourceStorageBlock.65536BSourceUsage: 10[5]

What changed in Refined Types between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Refined Types 1.21.1-0.3.2. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.9.2 or earlier, so everything below is already part of what you're playing.[6]
Mod changelog highlights
- 0.2.2: Fixed a crash that happened when an importer tried to import 0 energy from an energy source.[7]
- 0.2.7: Fixed energy, soul and source sometimes not working.[8]
- 0.2.9: Fixed energy, source and soul not being exported when fuzzy mode is on.[9]
- 0.3.0: Added creative disks, which are infinitely filled with the specific resource.[10]
- 0.3.2: Fixed the missing Network Energizer recipe.[11]
Most of these releases are fixes for energy, soul and source handling, so if you had trouble moving those resources in older versions, the pack's current version includes the fixes listed above.[6][7][8][9]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for Refined Types were available, so any pack-specific changes to this mod across FTB Skies 2 releases are unverified.
