What is Refined Types?
2 parts
Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It lets several Refined Storage components handle resources that are not items or fluids: FE, Source and Souls. The mod's project page says this covers storage, transfer, viewing and autocrafting.[1]
Supported resource types
- FE, the energy type.[1]
- Source, which comes from Ars Nouveau.[1]
- Souls, which come from Industrial Foregoing Souls.[1]
- Mana from Botania is listed as planned, so don't count on it yet.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Refined Types 1.21.1-0.3.2. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[2]
How do you get started with Refined Types?
5 parts
Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It adds support for FE, Source (from Ars Nouveau) and Souls (from Industrial Foregoing Souls) in Refined Storage components, so you can store, transfer, view and autocraft them.[1]
This walkthrough covers the two crafting lines with recipes in the sources: Source storage (the B tiers) and Energy storage (the K tiers). We start at the smallest tier of each.[3][4]
Step by step
- Craft a storage part first. Disks and blocks are both built from parts. Start with 64B Source Storage Part for Source or 64K Energy Storage Part for energy. The pack changed both of these recipes from the mod's own.[3]
- Turn the part into a disk. The disk is what you put in your Disk Drive.[3][4]
- Or make a storage block from the part if you want a block instead of a disk.[3]

Disks
Once you have a part, 64B Source Storage Disk comes from the shapeless recipe below. The matching energy disk, 64K Energy Storage Disk, has its own shapeless recipe in the same style. The mod's advancements ask you to craft a disk and put it in your Disk Drive, which is a good first goal.[3][4]

Blocks and the Network Energizer
The storage blocks are a separate craft from the disks, and the pack changed those recipes too. Here is the smallest Source one, 64B Source Storage Block.[3]

Block usage settings
Each storage block has a usage setting in the config. In this pack, sourceStorageBlock.64BSourceUsage is 2, and energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage is also 2. Both match the mod defaults, so the pack has not changed them.[4][5]
How does Refined Types work?
3 parts
Refined Types is a Refined Storage addon. It lets your storage network handle FE, Source from Ars Nouveau and Souls from Industrial Foregoing Souls, in various Refined Storage components. The project page says that covers storage, transfer, viewing and autocrafting. Mana from Botania is listed there as planned, not as something that works.[1]
Disks and Disk Drives
The basic loop is the same as normal Refined Storage. You craft an Energy, Source or Soul Storage Disk and put it in your Disk Drive. The mod's own advancements for storing energies, sources and souls describe exactly that.[4]
Each disk comes in size tiers, and each tier has a matching storage part. For Source, the tiers named in the mod's language file run from 64B up to 8388608B. Energy has the same tier names with K instead of B. Souls start at 1K and go up to 2097152K. Each of these types also has Infinite and Creative storage blocks.[4]
The pack changed the crafting recipes for the lowest-tier parts, such as the 64B Source Storage Part and the 64K Energy Storage Part. It also changed the disk and block recipes at the 1024 and 1048576 tiers. Here is the 64B Source part as an example.[3]

A part can become a disk in different ways. The pack's version of the disk recipe is shown first. Below it is the mod's own recipe, which combines the part with a Storage Housing.[3]

Storage blocks and their upkeep
The mod also adds storage blocks, such as the 1024B Source Storage Block and the 1024K Energy Storage Block. They come in the same size tiers as the parts. The 1024B block, for example, is crafted from the matching 1024B Source Storage Part.[3][4]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: refinedtypes:blocks/1024b_source_storage_block
The pack changed this block recipe.
Every one of these blocks has its own usage setting in the common config, and the tooltips describe it as the energy (or the source) that block uses. The pack leaves all of these at the mod defaults, and the values climb in steps of 2 with each tier. Energy blocks run from 2 at 64K to 16 at 8388608K, with 18 for the Infinite block. Source blocks use the same numbers by tier.[4][5]
- Energy blocks: energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage is 2, energyStorageBlock.1024KEnergyUsage is 6, energyStorageBlock.1048576KEnergyUsage is 14, energyStorageBlock.8388608KEnergyUsage is 16 and energyStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage is 18.[5]
- Source blocks: sourceStorageBlock.64BSourceUsage is 2, sourceStorageBlock.1024BSourceUsage is 6, sourceStorageBlock.1048576BSourceUsage is 14, sourceStorageBlock.8388608BSourceUsage is 16 and sourceStorageBlock.infiniteSourceUsage is 18.[5]
- Soul blocks use a different tier ladder but the same idea: soulStorageBlock.1KEnergyUsage is 2, soulStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage is 6, soulStorageBlock.2097152KEnergyUsage is 16 and soulStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage is 18.[5]
Network Energizer
The Network Energizer has a redstone mode. Its help text says that when the device is inactive, the storage network will not consume any Energy from Energy Disks to sustain it. So you can control that drain with redstone.[4]

This is the mod's own recipe, which the pack leaves unchanged.
How do you progress through Refined Types?
6 parts
Refined Types adds a Source storage line (the B tiers) and an Energy storage line (the K tiers). Most tiers come as a part, a disk and a block. The part is the key item for a tier, because the block and disk recipes for that tier are built around it.[3]
The tier ladder
Here are the parts for each line, from lowest tier to highest. The number in the name is the tier size, so this is the order you climb them in.[3]
- Source parts: 64B Source Storage Part, 256B Source Storage Part, 1024B Source Storage Part, 8192B Source Storage Part, 65536B Source Storage Part, 262144B Source Storage Part, 1048576B Source Storage Part and 8388608B Source Storage Part.[3]
- Energy parts: 64K Energy Storage Part, 256K Energy Storage Part, 1024K Energy Storage Part, 8192K Energy Storage Part, 65536K Energy Storage Part, 262144K Energy Storage Part and 1048576K Energy Storage Part.[3]
Starting out: the lowest parts
The part recipes written out in the pack data are for the lowest tier of each line. The pack changed both of them, so ignore what other guides say about the mod's default recipes.[3]

Turning a part into a disk
Once you have a part, there are a pair of ways to get the disk of the same tier. The pack has its own shaped disk recipe, and the mod's shapeless disk recipe is also in the data. Here is the 64B tier as an example.[3]

The same pair of recipes shows up for the higher tiers, for example 1024K Energy Storage Disk and 8192B Source Storage Disk.[3]
Turning a part into a block
Blocks are built from the part of their own tier too, and the pack changed these recipes as well. Source blocks and Energy blocks use different recipes, so open the one for the line you are climbing.[3]

How does Refined Types work with other mods?
4 parts
Refined Types is an addon for Refined Storage. It lets Refined Storage components handle FE, Source and Souls, so you can store, transfer, view and autocraft them. In this pack, its recipes pull in items from several other mods.[1][3]
Refined Storage
Refined Storage is the mod you lean on most. Every storage disk, every storage block and the Network Energizer involve Refined Storage items such as the Storage Housing, Machine Casing and Interface. The recipes below show the exact in-pack versions.[3]

Refined Storage processors also gate the part upgrades. Going from one capacity tier to the next uses a Basic Processor at the 256 tier, an Improved Processor at the 1024 tier, and an Advanced Processor from the 8192 tier all the way up to the Infinite parts. Each upgrade also consumes the previous tier's part, so you climb the ladder one step at a time.[3]

Ars Nouveau and FTB Materials
The entry-level Source part is where Ars Nouveau comes in. The pack changed this recipe so it uses Magebloom Fiber and Silicon. This fits the mod's Source support, which is built around Ars Nouveau's Source resource.[1][3]

Vanilla metal blocks
- Source part upgrades use a Redstone Block plus a metal block that gets more valuable with each tier: Gold Block, then Diamond Block, then Emerald Block, and finally Netherite Block for the top tier and the Infinite part.[3]
- Energy part upgrades use a Copper Block plus the same progression of gold, diamond, emerald and netherite blocks.[3]
- The finished storage blocks are pack-changed recipes too. Source blocks use Redstone and a Redstone Block. Energy blocks use a Copper Block and Redstone.[3]
Industrial Foregoing Souls
The mod's project page lists Souls support through Industrial Foregoing Souls, alongside FE and Source.[1]
Which Refined Types config options matter?
3 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Good news: there's very little to tweak here, and the pack hasn't touched any of it. Everything in Refined Types that you can configure lives in one file, refinedtypes-common.toml, with options like energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage. Every value in this pack matches the mod default, so nothing was changed from the mod's own numbers.[6]
The file has one usage option for each tier of the energy, soul and source storage blocks. That fits what the mod adds: Refined Storage support for FE, Source (Ars Nouveau) and Souls (Industrial Foregoing Souls). Every option accepts a value from 0 up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807.[1][6]
Energy storage blocks
The lowest energy tier is set to 2 in energyStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage. The value goes up tier by tier, as the list below shows.[6]
- energyStorageBlock.256KEnergyUsage: 4[6]
- energyStorageBlock.1024KEnergyUsage: 6[6]
- energyStorageBlock.8192KEnergyUsage: 8[6]
- energyStorageBlock.65536KEnergyUsage: 10[6]
- energyStorageBlock.262144KEnergyUsage: 12[6]
- energyStorageBlock.1048576KEnergyUsage: 14[6]
- energyStorageBlock.8388608KEnergyUsage: 16[6]
- energyStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage: 18[6]
Soul storage blocks
The soul blocks have their own tier ladder. Its lowest tier is set to 2 in soulStorageBlock.1KEnergyUsage, and the rest follow below.[6]
- soulStorageBlock.8KEnergyUsage: 4[6]
- soulStorageBlock.64KEnergyUsage: 6[6]
- soulStorageBlock.512KEnergyUsage: 8[6]
- soulStorageBlock.4096KEnergyUsage: 10[6]
- soulStorageBlock.32768KEnergyUsage: 12[6]
- soulStorageBlock.262144KEnergyUsage: 14[6]
- soulStorageBlock.2097152KEnergyUsage: 16[6]
- soulStorageBlock.infiniteEnergyUsage: 18[6]
Source storage blocks
Source blocks follow the same pattern as the energy ones. The lowest tier is set to 2 in sourceStorageBlock.64BSourceUsage.[6]
- sourceStorageBlock.256BSourceUsage: 4[6]
- sourceStorageBlock.1024BSourceUsage: 6[6]
- sourceStorageBlock.8192BSourceUsage: 8[6]
- sourceStorageBlock.65536BSourceUsage: 10[6]

- sourceStorageBlock.8388608BSourceUsage: 16[6]
- sourceStorageBlock.infiniteSourceUsage: 18[6]
