What is Glassential Renewed?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.46 guide
Glassential Renewed is a building-focused mod that adds special glass types without the overhead of a big content mod. The project page pitches it as the cool glass you see in mods like Extra Utilities, such as glass that blocks light or glass that glows, in one lightweight package.[1]
The pack includes version 3.0.0 of the mod, built for NeoForge 1.21.[2]
What it adds
- Luminous Glass emits light, just like Glowstone.[1]
- Redstone Glass emits a strong redstone signal, just like a Block of Redstone.[1]
- Ghostly Glass is non-solid to all entities of any kind.[1]
- Ethereal Glass is non-solid to players, while Reverse Ethereal Glass is only solid to players (and fluids).[1]
- Tinted Ethereal Glass and Tinted Reverse Ethereal Glass combine the properties of vanilla Tinted Glass with their Ethereal counterparts.[1]
- Glass doors, glass trapdoors and glass slabs, plus doors and trapdoors made of all the Glassential blocks and dyed stained glass doors and trapdoors.[1]
- Frameless panels from all the glasses of the mod.[1]
The mod also replaces the vanilla glasses with connected-texture versions, and it supports connected textures through Fusion. The project page says Fusion has been required since version 2.1.0.[1]
Who it is for
This is a mod for builders. If you want a glowing window, a wall you can walk through, or a glass block that outputs a redstone signal, this is where you get them. It's handy for bases, hidden entrances and redstone-driven builds, and it doesn't ask you to learn a whole tech or magic system.[1]
Where it fits in progression
Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests involving this mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. They also don't say where the glasses unlock in progression, so treat it as a building-utility mod you can use whenever you like. Check the in-game recipes to see what each block needs. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Glassential Renewed?
2 parts
Glassential Renewed adds lots of building glass: light-emitting glass, glass you can walk through, glass that sends redstone signals, plus matching doors, trapdoors, slabs and panes. Connected textures need the Fusion mod, and the vanilla glasses get connected textures too. Here's the order I'd make things in.[1]
Step by step
- Start with the basics: Glass slab, Glass Door and Glass TrapDoor. They're plain glass building pieces, and the trapdoor builds on the slab, so make the slab first. The mod also adds doors and trapdoors for its other glass blocks, and frameless panes from all its glasses.[1][3]
- Next, Luminous Glass for lighting. It emits light just like Glowstone, so it works as a window and a lamp in one block.[1][3]
- Then grab Iron Glass. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so go by the recipe shown here rather than any other guide.[3]
- Once you have ender items, make Ghostly Glass and Ethereal Glass. Ghostly glass is not solid to entities, and ethereal glass is not solid to players.[1][3][4]
- Finish with Redstone Glass for automation. It emits a redstone signal.[1][3][4]

Handy tricks
Reverse Ethereal Glass is the opposite of ethereal glass: it is only solid to players. You don't need to craft it from scratch, because a shapeless recipe turns ethereal glass into the reverse version, and another turns it back.[1][3][4]
How does Glassential Renewed work?
6 parts
Glassential Renewed is a building mod. The project page describes it as various types of glass to aid in your building, so the mechanics here are about how each glass behaves when you, mobs, fluids or redstone interact with it.[1]
Who can walk through what
The big idea is selective solidity. Ghostly Glass is not solid to entities, so players and mobs alike pass straight through it. Ethereal Glass is not solid to players only.[1][4]
Reverse Ethereal Glass is the opposite: it is only solid to players, and the project page adds that fluids are blocked too. That makes it handy for a barrier that stops you while other things get through.[1][4]
The tinted versions, Tinted Ethereal Glass and Tinted Reverse Ethereal Glass, combine the properties of vanilla tinted glass with the ethereal or reverse ethereal behavior.[1]
Switching between variants
You don't need to start over to flip a block's behavior. In this pack, a single shapeless craft turns ethereal glass into its reverse form, and another turns it back.[3]

The tinted pair works the same way, so you can convert between the tinted ethereal and tinted reverse ethereal types as well.[3]

Getting the base glasses
Ethereal glass and ghostly glass are both shapeless crafts that start from plain glass. Here are their recipes.[3]

Doors, trapdoors and panes
The mod makes doors and trapdoors from all of its glass blocks, for example Ghostly Glass Door and Ethereal Glass TrapDoor. The pack also has plain and stained glass doors such as Glass Door and Blue Glass Door. Here are the recipes for a door and a trapdoor.[1][3]

The mod also has panes of its glasses, such as Ghostly Glass Pane. A tooltip says panes are frameless when inserted between blocks, and another says some panes are not solid to players.[1][3][4]
The mod's tooltips also describe explosion-resistant glass, including doors and trapdoors that work like iron ones.[4]
Light and redstone
The project page lists luminous glass that emits light just like Glowstone, and redstone glass that emits a strong redstone signal just like a Block of Redstone. A tooltip in the mod also says "Emits a redstone signal". For a simple light source, Glowstone Lamp has its own recipe.[1][3][4]

Connected textures
The project page says the mod requires Fusion for connected textures since version 2.1.0. It also says vanilla glasses are replaced with connected-texture versions.[1]
Unverified The sources here include no config files for this mod in the pack, so any tunable options for the glasses are not shown here.
How do you progress through Glassential Renewed?
5 parts
Glassential Renewed is a decorative mod, so there is no power curve here. What you progress through is which glass you can craft, and each glass is built from the one before it or from a vanilla block. The groups below follow the in-pack recipes.[3]
Unverified The sources here show no quest chapter for this mod, so the pack's quest book gives no set order for it. The groups below follow the recipes only.
Plain glass basics
You start with Glass slab, Glass Door and Glass TrapDoor. The trapdoor uses the slab as one of its parts, so make the slab first.[3]

Material glass
Next come the glasses that pair plain glass with a single block: Stone Glass, Sandstone Glass, Ice Glass, Obsidian Glass and Iron Glass. Obsidian Glass also has its own Obsidian Glass Door and Obsidian Glass TrapDoor.[3]
The pack changed the Iron Glass recipe, so use the version below rather than the mod's default.[3]

Light and redstone glass
The glowing and redstone glasses are Luminous Glass, Redstone Glass, Glowstone Lamp and Lava Lamp. Luminous Glass and Redstone Glass each have a pane, a door and a trapdoor. Each lamp also has a tinted version, such as Tinted Lava Lamp.[3]
The tinted versions of Luminous Glass and Redstone Glass build on the untinted block. Craft the base glass first, then upgrade it.[3]

Ghostly and ethereal glass
The last group is Ghostly Glass, Ethereal Glass and the reverse and tinted forms of Ethereal Glass. Ethereal Glass and Reverse Ethereal Glass convert into each other, and so does the tinted pair.[3]
Tinted Ethereal Glass can be made from Ethereal Glass as an upgrade, or by converting the tinted reverse version. Both routes are in the pack's recipes.[3]

Each of these glasses also has a pane, a door and a trapdoor. Ethereal Glass, for example, has Ethereal Glass Pane, Ethereal Glass Door and Ethereal Glass TrapDoor.[3]
Colored doors and trapdoors
Colored doors, such as Red Glass Door and Tinted Glass Door, are crafted from the matching vanilla stained or tinted glass.[3]
The pack adds its own way to get the colored trapdoors: you cut them in a stonecutter from the matching Connecting glass block. Black Glass Trapdoor is one example.[3]

Added by the pack. The other colored trapdoors in the recipe dump follow the same stonecutting pattern.
How does Glassential Renewed work with other mods?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
The clearest link between Glassential Renewed and another mod in this pack is through the Connecting stained glass blocks. The pack adds stonecutting recipes that turn those blocks into Glassential's glass trapdoors.[5]
Connecting glass to glass trapdoors
Put a Connecting glass block in a stonecutter and you can cut it into the trapdoor of the same color. For example, Connecting Black Stained Glass becomes a Black Glass Trapdoor, and Connecting Blue Stained Glass becomes a Blue Glass Trapdoor.[5]
Stonecutting
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/glassential_black_glass_trapdoor
The black version, a stonecutting recipe added by the pack. The other colors follow the same pattern.
The same pattern covers every dyed color: white, orange, magenta, light blue, yellow, lime, pink, gray, light gray, cyan, purple, blue, brown, green, red and black. Tinted glass works too, with Connecting Tinted Glass giving you a Tinted Glass Trapdoor.[5]
These recipes are added by the pack, not by either mod itself, so don't assume the same stonecutting route exists in other modpacks.[5]
Connected textures
Glassential Renewed's project page says it has required Fusion since version 2.1.0, and that it fully supports connected textures through Fusion.[1]
What changed in Glassential Renewed between versions?
2 parts
FTB Skies 2 1.7.0 ships Glassential Renewed 3.2.1, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. Here are the changes the mod's own changelogs list.[6]
3.1.8
- All glasses got an impermeable tag, which disables drip particles.[7]
3.2.1 (the version in this pack)
- Added the lava lamp and a tinted version.[8]
- Added the glowstone lamp and a tinted version.[8]
- Added iron glass.[8]
- The redstone glass door and trapdoor now emit a redstone signal.[8]
- Ethereal (trap)doors now follow the collision rules of block forms, which fixes a reported issue.[8]
The sources I have don't include any pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you which pack release picked up which mod version before 1.7.0.[6]
