Connected Glass is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 1.1.14. Connected Glass adds new types of glass with connecting textures! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Connected Glass?

3 parts

Connected Glass is a building-focused mod. It adds new glass blocks whose textures connect to neighboring blocks, so large windows look like one seamless pane instead of a grid of separate squares.[1]

This pack includes Connected Glass 1.1.14, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[2]

What it adds

The mod adds 4 new glass types. Each one comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a matching pane.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect.[1]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer-art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Tinted glass prevents light from passing through.[1]

Vanilla glass is not changed or replaced. The connecting types are extra blocks, so you can still use the regular vanilla textures whenever you want them.[1]

Who it is for

It is for builders who want cleaner windows, greenhouses and skylights. It is purely cosmetic, apart from the light-blocking behavior of tinted glass, so you don't need it to progress. You can use it as much or as little as you like.[1]

Where it fits in progression

The sources I have show Connected Glass only as an included mod. They don't show any quests that use it, or any role in the pack's progression.[2]

Unverified Crafting recipes for the Connected Glass blocks in this pack could not be confirmed from the available sources, so none are listed here.

How do you get started with Connected Glass?

4 parts

Connected Glass adds glass blocks whose textures connect to their neighbours, and it does not change vanilla glass. You get extra blocks to build with, and nothing you already have is replaced.[1]

The mod page lists 4 glass types: Connecting Glass, Clear Glass, Scratched Glass and Tinted Glass. Each type comes in all 16 colors, and every block has a matching pane. The steps below follow the Connecting and Clear families, which are the ones the pack's recipe list shows here.[1][3]

Step 1: Make Connecting Glass

Start with Connecting Glass. It has the regular glass look, but touching blocks connect their textures. The Clear versions are crafted from the connecting blocks, so this is the one to make first.[1][3]

Step 2: Make the panes

Next, make Connecting Glass Pane. The pack gives you a route from the vanilla pane and a route from the connecting block you just made.[3]

Recipe id: connectedglass:borderless_glass_pane1

This route starts from the vanilla glass pane.

6 × Connecting Glass

This route starts from Connecting Glass.

Step 3: Add color

Every color has its own connecting block and pane. Connecting Black Stained Glass is a good example, and it is made from its vanilla stained glass counterpart. The other colors in the recipe list follow the same pattern.[1][3]

Colored panes follow the same routes as the plain one. Here is Connecting Black Stained Glass Pane made from the connecting block.[3]

Step 4: Try Clear Glass

Once you have a connecting block, you can turn it into a clear version. Clear Black Stained Glass is crafted from Connecting Black Stained Glass. The mod page describes Clear Glass as clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1][3]

The clear panes have their own recipes in the pack, shown below for Clear Black Stained Glass Pane and Clear Blue Stained Glass Pane. The blue one belongs to the same color family as Connecting Blue Stained Glass Pane.[3]

Tip: Vanilla glass is not replaced or changed, so your old windows keep working. Swap in the connecting versions only where you want the connected look.[1]

How does Connected Glass work?

2 parts

Connected Glass is a purely decorative mod, so there's no machine, multiblock, power or fluid system to learn. The sources only describe glass blocks and panes whose textures connect to their neighbors. Here's how that works and how you get the blocks in the pack.[1]

What the mod adds

The mod adds 4 new types of glass block with connecting textures: Connecting Glass, Clear Glass, Scratched Glass and Tinted Glass. Each type comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a pane version.[1]

  • Connecting Glass uses the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect.[1]
  • Clear Glass is a clear version of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass uses the old programmer art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass is a connecting, colored version of the tinted glass textures, and it prevents light from passing through.[1]
Tip: Connected Glass doesn't change vanilla glass. It adds separate blocks, so you can keep using the vanilla textures wherever you like.[1]

Getting the blocks in this pack

In the pack's recipe dump, each connecting stained glass block is made from the matching vanilla stained glass block. The recipe is shaped crafting, and the dump lists a single input for it. Black is a good example, and Connecting Black Stained Glass follows the same pattern as the other colors in the dump.[3]

Panes have two recipes. You can convert the matching vanilla stained glass pane, or you can craft the pane from the connecting glass block of the same color.[3]

6 × Connecting Black Stained Glass

The same pattern shows up for blue, brown, cyan, gray, green, light blue, light gray and lime in the recipe dump. For example, there's Connecting Lime Stained Glass and Connecting Lime Stained Glass Pane.[3]

How do you progress through Connected Glass?

2 parts

Connected Glass has no tech ladder to climb. In this pack it is a short crafting chain: vanilla glass becomes Connecting glass, and Connecting glass becomes Clear stained glass.[3]

Connecting glass

The chain starts with Connecting Glass, which you craft from plain vanilla glass. Each stained colour has its own recipe that starts from the vanilla stained glass of that colour. For example, Connecting Blue Stained Glass comes from vanilla blue stained glass. The recipes cover black, blue, brown, cyan, gray, green, light blue, light gray, lime, magenta, orange, pink, purple, red, white and yellow.[3]

4 × Glass

Panes can be made from a vanilla glass pane or from the Connecting block of the same colour. Connecting Glass Pane follows this pattern, and so do the stained colours. Use whichever you have on hand.[3]

6 × Connecting Glass

Clear stained glass

The Clear family comes next. You craft each Clear block from the Connecting block of the same colour, so Connecting Blue Stained Glass becomes Clear Blue Stained Glass. The recipes I can confirm cover black, blue, brown, cyan, gray, green and light blue.[3]

Crafting Shaped

4 × Connecting Blue Stained Glass

Recipe id: connectedglass:clear_glass_blue1

Example: Clear Blue Stained Glass, made from the Connecting block.

Clear panes also have a choice of routes: from the Connecting pane of the same colour, or from the Clear block of that colour.[3]

Crafting Shaped

6 × Clear Blue Stained Glass

Tip: To get Clear glass in a colour, make or grab the Connecting block of that colour first. The Clear recipes shown here start from the Connecting items, not from vanilla glass.[3]

How does Connected Glass work with other mods?

1 part

The one link between Connected Glass and another mod in this pack is a set of stonecutting recipes the pack adds. They turn Connected Glass blocks into the matching glass trapdoors from Glassential.[3]

Connecting glass to glass trapdoors

Each recipe turns a Connected Glass block into the trapdoor in the same colour. For example, Connecting Black Stained Glass becomes Black Glass Trapdoor, and Connecting Tinted Glass becomes Tinted Glass Trapdoor.[3]

The tinted variant is also a stonecutting recipe added by the pack.

The pack covers every colour of connecting stained glass, plus the connecting tinted glass. A few more examples:[3]

Tip: These recipes are added by the pack, not by either mod itself. If you want glass trapdoors that match your connecting glass builds, the stonecutter is the place to go.[3]

Connected Glass adds new glass blocks with connecting textures and does not change vanilla glass. Vanilla glass stays available alongside the connecting versions.[1]

What changed in Connected Glass between versions?

2 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Connected Glass 1.1.14, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. Here is what changed in the mod's own releases, from the first one up to the version you have.[2]

Mod releases

  • 1.1.11: the initial release of Connected Glass for Minecraft 1.20.5 and 1.20.6.[4][5]
  • 1.1.12: Turkish and Ukrainian translations were added, and glass was added to the appropriate c:... glass tags.[4][5]
  • 1.1.13: Fusion is now used for culling the top and bottom quads of glass panes.[4][5]
  • 1.1.14: the texture atlas size of Connected Glass textures was significantly reduced. The Spanish and Ukrainian translations were also updated.[4]

What 1.1.14 means for panes

The side section textures of pane blocks now only connect up and down when the pane above or below also has that side section. If you build tall glass walls out of panes, this is the version that changed how those side edges join up.[4]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Connected Glass were available, so any change the FTB Skies 2 pack itself made to this mod is unverified.
