What is Glassential Renewed?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.46 guide

Glassential Renewed is a building-focused mod that adds special glass types without the overhead of a big content mod. The project page pitches it as the cool glass you see in mods like Extra Utilities, such as glass that blocks light or glass that glows, in one lightweight package.[1]

The pack includes version 3.0.0 of the mod, built for NeoForge 1.21.[2]

What it adds

  • Luminous Glass emits light, just like Glowstone.[1]
  • Redstone Glass emits a strong redstone signal, just like a Block of Redstone.[1]
  • Ghostly Glass is non-solid to all entities of any kind.[1]
  • Ethereal Glass is non-solid to players, while Reverse Ethereal Glass is only solid to players (and fluids).[1]
  • Tinted Ethereal Glass and Tinted Reverse Ethereal Glass combine the properties of vanilla Tinted Glass with their Ethereal counterparts.[1]
  • Glass doors, glass trapdoors and glass slabs, plus doors and trapdoors made of all the Glassential blocks and dyed stained glass doors and trapdoors.[1]
  • Frameless panels from all the glasses of the mod.[1]

The mod also replaces the vanilla glasses with connected-texture versions, and it supports connected textures through Fusion. The project page says Fusion has been required since version 2.1.0.[1]

Who it is for

This is a mod for builders. If you want a glowing window, a wall you can walk through, or a glass block that outputs a redstone signal, this is where you get them. It's handy for bases, hidden entrances and redstone-driven builds, and it doesn't ask you to learn a whole tech or magic system.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified The sources I have don't show any quests involving this mod, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. They also don't say where the glasses unlock in progression, so treat it as a building-utility mod you can use whenever you like. Check the in-game recipes to see what each block needs. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Glassential Renewed?

5 parts

Glassential Renewed is a building mod: it adds lots of glass types plus doors, trapdoors, slabs and panes made from them. In this pack everything covered below is a plain crafting recipe, so you can work through it in order and see each result in the recipe blocks.[1][3]

Start with the Glass Door

The Glass Door is the mod's simple glass door, and the recipe below shows how it is made, so it's a cheap way to see how the mod works. The mod also has a Glass TrapDoor and a Glass slab if you want matching pieces.[1][3]

Iron Glass

Iron Glass is worth making early. The pack changed its recipe, so go by the one below and not the mod's default. One craft gives you 4 blocks.[3]

Redstone Glass

Redstone Glass emits a strong redstone signal, just like a Block of Redstone, so it's handy for hidden or decorative redstone builds. The pack changed this recipe too, and one craft makes 8 blocks. From those you can make Tinted Redstone Glass, which also comes out 8 at a time.[1][3]

Colorable Glass and the Brush

Lighting and see-through tricks

Luminous Glass emits light, just like Glowstone. Ethereal Glass is non-solid to players, and Ghostly Glass is non-solid to all entities. Luminous Glass is the starting point for the Glowstone Lamp, which comes out 2 at a time, and for Tinted Luminous Glass, which comes out 8 at a time.[1][3]

How does Glassential Renewed work?

5 parts

Glassential Renewed is a building mod that adds various types of glass. What you need to learn here is how each glass behaves when you walk into it, light it up, power it or paint it, so this section walks through those behaviours.[1]

Who can walk through what

You can flip between the normal and reverse versions without starting over. A single block of reverse ethereal glass crafts back into the normal one, and the tinted pair works the same way. You can also turn plain ethereal glass into the tinted version.[3]

Light and redstone

Luminous Glass (Luminous Glass) emits light, just like Glowstone. Redstone Glass emits a strong redstone signal, just like a Block of Redstone.[1][3]

The pack changed the Redstone Glass recipe, so use the one below. It makes 8 Redstone Glass per craft.[3]

The Glassential Brush

Colorable Glass and the other colorable glasses are changed with the Glassential Brush. Right-click with the brush to open its tuning screen. There you can toggle Emit Light, Emit Redstone Signal, Pass All Entities and Pass Player, then press Apply.[4]

For colors, shift + right-click any block with the brush to copy its color. You get a message telling you whether the copy worked or the block's color couldn't be copied.[4]

The pack changed both the brush recipe and the Colorable Glass recipe. Colorable Glass makes 8 per craft.[3]

One Way Glass and clear views

One Way Glass is a secret window: transparent from one side and solid from the other. Right-click a face with any block to disguise that side.[4]

Clear Fluid Glass removes the near-surface water face behind the glass, which gives you a crystal-clear view.[4]

Panes, doors and trapdoors

The mod adds frameless panes for all of its glasses, and the panes lose their frame when inserted between blocks. There are also doors and trapdoors for the mod's glasses and for dyed stained glass.[1][4]

The wooden glass doors are simple shapeless crafts that combine the matching wooden door with a glass pane. The Acacia Glass Door is one example.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: glassential:acacia_glass_door

Some variants carry tooltips saying they resist explosions. On the door versions it adds that they work like an iron door, and on the trapdoor versions like an iron trapdoor.[4]

How do you progress through Glassential Renewed?

5 parts

Glassential Renewed has no quest path in this pack, so the progression here follows the in-pack crafting recipes. Start with plain glass, move on to the recipes the pack changed, then the ender glass family, and finish with the lamps and utility glass.[3]

Plain glass shapes

Ordinary glass is where the glass shapes start. The Glass slab, Glass Door and Glass TrapDoor are all in-pack crafts, and the slab is what the trapdoor is made from.[3]

The pack-adjusted recipes

Four recipes have been changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults: Colorable Glass, the Glassential Brush (the Glassential Brush), Redstone Glass and Iron Glass. Check the recipes below for the in-pack versions.[3]

The direct route makes 8 Tinted Ethereal Glass.

Clear Fluid Glass makes 8 per craft, and Clear Fluid Fake Glass is crafted from it, also 8 per craft.[3]

Panes, doors and trapdoors

Most glass types turn into 16 panes per craft. Doors made from a glass type come out at 3 per craft, and trapdoors at 2. Wooden and iron glass doors and trapdoors are shapeless recipes that combine the matching door or trapdoor with a glass pane, giving a single item per craft.[3]

What changed in Glassential Renewed between versions?

6 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Glassential Renewed 3.4.5, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[5]

3.4.5

  • Rain, snow and clouds now show through plain glass and One Way Glass. Coloured, stained and functional glasses still block weather like in vanilla, because their tint needs partial alpha, which conflicts with the pass that renders weather.[6]

3.4.1

Unverified The 3.4.1 changelog only points to an external changelog page, so its changes are not confirmed here.

3.3.2

3.2.3

  • Translation updates: zh_cn and pt_br were updated, and ja_jp was added.[8]

3.2.1

  • Added the lava lamp and the glowstone lamp, each with a tinted version.[9]
  • Added iron glass.[9]
  • The redstone glass door and trapdoor now emit a redstone signal.[9]
  • Ethereal doors and trapdoors now follow the collision rules of their block forms.[9]

3.1.8

  • Added an impermeable tag for all glasses, which disables drip particles.[10]
