Glassential Renewed is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 3.4.7. Various types of glass to aid in your building. Updated to new MC. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Glassential Renewed?

Glassential Renewed adds a set of utility glass blocks for building, without the overhead of a big content mod. The pack includes version 3.4.7.[1][2]

The project page lists these glasses and features:[1]

  • Luminous Glass emits light, just like Glowstone.[1]
  • Redstone Glass emits a strong redstone signal, just like a Block of Redstone.[1]
  • Ghostly Glass is non-solid to all entities of any kind.[1]
  • Ethereal Glass is non-solid to players, while Reverse Ethereal Glass is only solid to players (and fluids).[1]
  • Tinted Ethereal Glass and Tinted Reverse Ethereal Glass combine the properties of vanilla Tinted Glass with the Ethereal and Reverse Ethereal variants.[1]
  • Glass doors and trapdoors, including versions made from all the mod's glass blocks and dyed stained glass versions.[1]
  • Frameless panels from all of the mod's glasses, plus glass slabs.[1]

The mod also supports connected textures through Fusion, which it has required since version 2.1.0. According to the project page, the vanilla glasses are completely replaced by connected texture versions.[1]

It has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.46 or earlier.[2]

How do you get started with Glassential Renewed?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Glassential Renewed adds specialty glass for building: glass that glows, glass that emits a redstone signal, glass that some or all things can walk through, plus doors, trapdoors and frameless panes made from them. Here is the order I would tackle things in, with the in-pack recipe shown after each step.[1]

Start with Luminous Glass

Make Luminous Glass first. It emits light just like Glowstone, so one block is both a window and a light source. It is the quickest way to see what the mod is about.[1]

Craft the Glassential Brush

Next, make the Glassential Brush. Colorable glass, like Colorable Glass, lets you change its color and properties with the brush. Right-click with the brush to configure it, and shift + right-click any block to copy its color.[3][4]

Redstone Glass

Redstone Glass emits a strong redstone signal, just like a Block of Redstone. This pack changed its recipe, so follow the recipe below rather than a recipe from the mod's defaults or another guide.[1][4]

Ghostly and Ethereal Glass

These glasses change who can pass through them. Ghostly Glass is not solid to entities, while Ethereal Glass is not solid to players.[1][3]

Tip: Reverse Ethereal Glass is the opposite of Ethereal Glass: it is only solid to players (and fluids).[1][3]

Doors and panes

Once you have a glass you like, you can turn it into doors, trapdoors and panes. The mod offers doors and trapdoors made from all of its glass blocks, and its panes are frameless when inserted between blocks. A good place to start is the plain Glass Door.[1][3]

How does Glassential Renewed work?

9 parts

Glassential Renewed adds various types of glass to help you build. There are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid networks to set up here. What matters is how each glass block behaves, so this section covers that, plus how you convert and craft the variants in this pack.[1]

Who can walk through what

Most of the glass types are about collision. Ethereal Glass is not solid to players, while Reverse Ethereal Glass is the opposite: only solid to players (and fluids). Ghostly Glass is not solid to entities of any kind. That makes it handy for doorways that mobs and players both ignore.[1][5]

The tinted versions, Tinted Ethereal Glass and Tinted Reverse Ethereal Glass, combine the properties of vanilla Tinted Glass with the Ethereal or Reverse Ethereal behaviour.[1]

Gravity Glass softens your fall and has no collision. Ice Glass holds ice in thermal glass without it melting.[5]

Switching between ethereal types

You can flip between the normal and reverse versions with a single-item shapeless craft, and the same goes for the tinted pair.[6]

Light and redstone glass

Luminous Glass emits light, just like Glowstone. Redstone Glass emits a strong redstone signal, just like a Block of Redstone, and its tooltip says simply that it emits a redstone signal. The Lava Lamp is described as a natural lantern that burns like magma.[1][5]

The pack changed the Redstone Glass recipe from the mod's own version.[6]

Smart Glass

Smart Glass frosts over while it is powered by redstone, and light still passes through when it is frosted. One signal frosts the whole connected panel, so you only need to power a single block of a large window.[5]

One Way Glass

One Way Glass is a secret window: transparent from one side and solid from the other. Right-click a face with any block to disguise that side.[5]

Clear Fluid Glass

Clear Fluid Glass removes the near-surface water face behind the glass, so you get a crystal-clear view into water. There is also Clear Fluid Fake Glass, which you craft from the clear fluid glass.[5][6]

Makes 8 Clear Fluid Fake Glass per craft.

Colorable glass and the Glassential Brush

Colorable Glass and Colorable Stained Glass can have their color and properties changed with the Glassential Brush, the Glassential Brush. Right-click with the brush to open its tuning screen. Shift + right-click any block to copy its color into the brush, and the game tells you whether the copy worked.[5]

The brush screen has an Apply button and these toggles:[5]

  • Emit Light[5]
  • Emit Redstone Signal[5]
  • Pass All Entities[5]
  • Pass Player[5]

The brush tooltip shows whether entity passthrough and player passthrough are on for the glass you are tuning.[5]

Both colorable glasses have pane versions you craft straight from the full block.[6]

Protected glass, doors and trapdoors

Iron Glass is tagged as resistant to explosions, and its door and trapdoor work like iron ones. The pack changed the Iron Glass recipe too.[5][6]

Doors and trapdoors exist for the glass types and for the wood and dye colors. The wood versions, such as Acacia Glass Door, are shapeless crafts that combine the matching wooden door or trapdoor with a glass pane.[1][5][6]

Panes

Panes from the mod's glasses are frameless when you insert them between blocks, which gives you clean, seamless windows. The mod needs Fusion for its connected textures.[1][5]

Watch out: Break doors, trapdoors, Clear Fluid Glass and the colorable glass blocks and panes with Silk Touch. Their loot tables only drop the block when the tool has Silk Touch, so without it you get nothing back.[7][8][9][10][11][12]

How do you progress through Glassential Renewed?

5 parts

Glassential Renewed is all crafting, so your progression here is a chain of recipes that start from plain glass and branch out into fancier variants. Here is the path I would follow, tier by tier, using the in-pack recipes.[6]

Tier 1: Plain glass basics

Start with the simple building pieces. One craft gives you 3 Glass Door, and the slab recipe makes 6 Glass slab. Slabs then feed into the Glass TrapDoor, which comes out as 2 per craft.[6]

Tier 2: Light, redstone and iron glass

Next come the utility glasses. Luminous Glass makes 8 per craft, and the pack's recipe for Redstone Glass makes 8 as well. Iron Glass makes 4 per craft. The pack changes both the Redstone Glass and Iron Glass recipes, so go by the recipes below and not by what you remember from the mod's defaults.[6]

Tier 3: Ethereal and ghostly glass

This is the end-of-the-line group. Ethereal Glass and Ghostly Glass each make 4 per craft. You can flip Ethereal Glass into Reverse Ethereal Glass with a shapeless recipe, and flip it back again.[6]

The top rung is the tinted version, Tinted Ethereal Glass. You can upgrade existing Ethereal Glass into 2 per craft, or make 8 per craft in a separate recipe. Tinted Ethereal Glass has its own reverse form, Tinted Reverse Ethereal Glass, with the same kind of swap recipes.[6]

Side branches

Doors, trapdoors and panes

Most of the glass blocks above can be turned into doors and trapdoors. Doors make 3 per craft and trapdoors make 2 per craft. For example, Ethereal Glass Door and Ethereal Glass TrapDoor come straight from Ethereal Glass.[6]

The wood and iron versions work differently. Combine the matching vanilla door or trapdoor with a glass pane in a shapeless recipe, as with Acacia Glass Door and Iron Glass Trapdoor. The coloured doors such as Black Glass Door come from stained glass instead, 6 for 3 doors.[6]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: glassential:acacia_glass_door

Panes are cheap to make. Ethereal, Ghostly, Luminous and Tinted glass each turn into 16 panes per craft, for example Ethereal Glass Pane.[6]

What changed in Glassential Renewed between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10 8.3 ships Glassential Renewed 3.4.7. The mod has been in the pack since 0.46 or earlier, and it has been updated many times since. Here is what changed along the way.[2]

Pack updates, newest first

  • Pack 8.2 (3.4.5 to 3.4.7): colorable and stained colorable glasses were fixed, with support for Fusion 1.3+.[13][14]
  • Pack 7.2 (3.4.4 to 3.4.5): rain, snow and clouds now show through plain glass and One Way Glass. Coloured, stained and functional glasses still block weather like in vanilla, because their tint needs partial alpha.[15][16]
  • Pack 7.1 (3.4.2 to 3.4.4): fixed a crash that happened when a One Way Glass was disguised as another One Way Glass. It could crash on placement and corrupt the world so it crashed on every load, and affected worlds now load fine.[17][18]
  • Pack 7.0 (3.4.1 to 3.4.2): added Tinted One Way Glass. Water faces next to Clear Fluid Glass are now culled, and One Way Glass faces connect via Fusion CTM like the rest of the glass blocks.[19][20]
  • Pack 5.5: moved from 3.3.2 to 3.4.1.[21]
  • Pack 4.11 (3.2.1 to 3.3.2): the 3.3.2 changelog lists a hotfix for a missing tinted glass trapdoor registration and a nearly perfect Glass Slab connection. It also fixed Clear Fluid Fake Glass damage in survival mode, made Tinted Ethereal Glass Pane and Tinted Reverse Ethereal Glass actually tinted, and stopped Ghost Glass and Gravity Glass from placing in water.[22][23]
  • Pack 4.6 (3.1.8 to 3.2.1): added lava lamp and glowstone lamp, each with a tinted version, plus iron glass. The redstone glass door and trapdoor now emit a redstone signal, and Ethereal doors and trapdoors now follow the collision rules of block forms.[24][25]
  • Pack 4.5 (3.1.7 to 3.1.8): added an impermeable tag for all glasses, which disables drip particles.[26][27]
  • Pack 2.47 moved the mod from 3.1.6 to 3.1.7, and pack 2.42 moved it from 3.1.5 to 3.1.6.[28][29]

Earlier mod releases

The 3.0.0 build was a 1.21 beta where everything worked except the panes. It required NeoForge 21.0.143+ and used the original ConnectedTexturesMod for CTM textures for the time being. In 3.0.3 the vanilla glasses were replaced with CTM glasses.[30][31]

Release 3.1.0 added obsidian glass (with a door and trapdoor, all explosion resistant), stone glass and sandstone glass, and re-added the glass slab. Release 3.1.3 rebalanced the redstone and light glass, and 3.1.5 updated to Fusion 1.2.2.[32][33][34]
