What is AdvancedAE?

3 parts

AdvancedAE is an AE2 addon built around convenience and quality of life for your ME System, while also expanding what end-game setups can do. This pack ships version 1.2.5-1.21.1.[1][2][3]

What it adds

  • Advanced Pattern Providers: with an Advanced Pattern Encoder you choose which face each input of a Processing Pattern is sent to. That means one block and no extra pipes for machines that need specific sides.[1][4][5]
  • Quantum Computer: a special crafting unit that can run an unlimited number of crafting tasks as long as it has crafting storage left, with all tasks sharing the co-processors. The Quantum Computer Core works standalone with 256M storage and 8 co-processors, and the multiblock can scale up to 5x5x5 on a single channel.[1][6]
  • Quantum Crafter: a powerful auto crafter that can do a series of crafts every tick straight from the ME System's inventory, including recursive crafts and crafts with a non-consumed ingredient.[1]
  • Quantum Armor Set: armor that connects to your ME System and offers flight with no inertia, night vision, a magnet, auto feeding from ME Storage and more.[1]
  • Reaction Chamber: a power-hungry machine for efficient material processing, used to make various items you need to progress in the mod.[1]
  • ME Stock Export Bus: keeps an exact amount of an item in the target inventory, and accepts a crafting card so it can craft what it needs.[1][7]
  • ME Throughput Monitor: tracks items, fluids and FE energy on your system, with a per tick, per second or per minute scale.[1]

Upgrading providers

You don't have to rebuild your pattern setup. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade works on regular AE Pattern Providers and ExtendedAE Extended Pattern Providers, and keeps the same number of slots they had.[8]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book covers this mod in its ae2 chapter. The Reaction Chamber (a quest in "?"), the ME Stock Export Bus (a quest in "?") and the Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade (a quest in "?") each have a quest that follows another quest in that chapter.[7]

The Quantum Computer has its own chain. It starts with the Quantum Crafting Unit (a quest in "?"), which leads to the Quantum Computer Core (a quest in "?") and the Quantum Crafter (a quest in "?"). After the core, you hand in 56 Quantum Computer Structural Glass (a quest in "?"). That opens four more quests: the Quantum Data Entangler (a quest in "?"), the Quantum Computer Accelerator (a quest in "?"), the 128M Quantum Computer Storage (a quest in "?") and the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader (a quest in "?").[7]

How do you get started with AdvancedAE?

4 parts

AdvancedAE is an AE2 addon, so you need a working ME system before any of this matters. Once you have one, the pack's ae2 quest chapter has quests for the mod's key blocks, and the steps below follow the order those quests unlock. The two big things the mod gives you are the Quantum Computer, a crafting computer that can run an unlimited number of crafts as long as it has crafting storage, and Advanced Pattern Providers, which can push items to specific sides of a machine.[1][3][7]

First: the Reaction Chamber

Start with the Reaction Chamber (a quest in "?"). It produces Shattered Singularity through a chemical reaction, and the quantum computer recipes below use that item.[7][9][10]

Watch out: The chamber gets very power hungry when you speed it up with Acceleration Cards. If your ME system can't supply enough power for a tick of processing, you may see flickering. The fixes are to add energy buffers to your network or to use fewer acceleration cards.[11]

Second: Quantum Crafting Unit and Quantum Core

Next, make the Quantum Crafting Unit. Its quest is a quest in "?", and the quests for the core and the Quantum Crafter come right after it.[7]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: advanced_ae:eaequantumunit

Then craft the Quantum Computer Core (a quest in "?"). On its own it gives you 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, and it's the only block that can form a quantum computer by itself. A standalone core needs power through its Up or Down sides, where the connectors are.[6][7]

Third: Quantum Structure

When you want to go beyond a lone core, you need Quantum Computer Structural Glass for the outer frame. The pack's quest a quest in "?" asks you to hand in 56 of them. After that, the quests for Quantum Computer Accelerator, 128M Quantum Computer Storage, Quantum Data Entangler and Quantum Computer Multi-Threader open up.[7]

Tip: The in-game guide gives 7x7x7 as the maximum multiblock size, but sizes and limits are server configs. Check the tooltip on the Quantum Structure to see what your instance allows.[6][10]

Fourth: pattern provider upgrades

Alongside the quantum computer, grab the Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade (a quest in "?"). It turns a normal or extended pattern provider into the advanced version and keeps the same number of pattern slots, so you don't lose the materials you spent on an extended provider.[7][8][10]

To use the side-targeting feature, you also need the Advanced Pattern Encoder. Insert an encoded processing pattern into its left slot and pick a face for each ingredient. Leave a row on the "A" button to use whatever face is touching the provider.[4][5]

How does AdvancedAE work?

6 parts

Advanced AE is an AE2 addon, and its core idea is simple: make your ME system do more of the heavy lifting. This section covers how the main machines work. That means directional pattern providers, the Quantum Computer multiblock, the Quantum Crafter, the Reaction Chamber and the extra buses.[1][3]

Directional pattern providers

The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider lets you choose which face of the target machine each individual ingredient in a pattern is pushed into. Machines that need specific inputs on specific sides can be automated with one block and no pipes.[1][5]

You set the faces with the Advanced Pattern Encoder. Right-click it to open its GUI and put an encoded Processing Pattern in the left slot. Every raw ingredient is listed with one button per block face. Leaving it on the "A" button sends the item to whatever face touches the provider. Picking a face forces that face.[4][10]

Watch out: Advanced patterns only work directionally in an Advanced Pattern Provider. In any other provider they behave like normal patterns. If even one item can't be inserted into its chosen face, nothing is inserted directionally and standard pattern provider behaviour applies instead.[4]

If you already have providers placed, the Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade turns a regular Pattern Provider or an ExtendedAE Extended Pattern Provider into the advanced version. It keeps the same number of slots, so you don't lose the materials from an earlier extended upgrade. The Capacity Upgrade turns a regular Pattern Provider straight into an Advanced Pattern Provider with 36 pattern slots.[8][10]

The Quantum Computer

The Quantum Computer is a special crafting computer. It can run an unlimited number of crafting requests as long as it has crafting storage left, and all those jobs share every co-processor it has.[3][6]

The Quantum Core is the heart of it. On its own it gives 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, and it is the only block that can form a working quantum computer by itself. Used standalone, it takes power through its Up or Down sides, where the connectors are.[6][10]

  • Quantum Storage blocks add crafting storage, which lets the computer run more concurrent tasks. They come in 128M and 256M versions.[6]
  • The Quantum Computer Accelerator adds 8 co-processors to the multiblock. Every pattern being crafted can use all of them, so it pays to build plenty.[6][12]
  • The Data Entangler multiplies the storage of all storage blocks in the multiblock by 4. The Quantum Multi-threader multiplies the co-processing power of the accelerators by 4. You can place only one of each per multiblock.[6][12]
  • Quantum Structure blocks are the framing that connects everything. They form the outside layer of the multiblock.[6][10]

Multiblock rules and pack limits

The maximum size of the multiblock is 7x7x7 external dimensions, with no empty spaces inside. Gaps can be filled with blocks that add no extra benefit. Every block on the outside layer must be a Quantum Structure block.[6][10]

The server config controls these limits, and this pack leaves all of them at the mod defaults. [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]] is 7. [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerAcceleratorThreads]] is 8 threads per accelerator. [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxMultiThreaders]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputermaxDataEntanglers]] are both 1. The two multipliers, [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMultiThreaderMultiplication]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerDataEntanglerMultiplication]], are both 4.[12]

Tip: You can check the limits on your own instance in the item tooltips, so you don't have to guess what a server has set.[6]

The Quantum Crafter

The Quantum Crafter is an auto-crafter that works directly on your ME system's inventory. It handles fluid substitution crafts and recursive crafts, where an input is also an output. Place it on your network and connect it with a cable. It needs a single channel.[1][13]

  1. Encode the recipes you want run indefinitely into crafting patterns and insert them into the crafter's pattern slots.[13]
  2. Use the square button at the bottom of a pattern to enable or disable it. Disabled patterns are never crafted.[13]
  3. Click the cog button to open the Pattern Configuration UI. There you set how much of each ingredient to always keep in the ME system, and a maximum amount of the end product so you don't over-craft expensive items.[13]
  4. Type the number and press enter to apply it. Number fields accept mathematical expressions. Setting the output limit to 0 removes the limit, so the crafter keeps going until the inputs run out.[10][13]

By default the crafter pushes finished items from its output slots into the ME system. Left-clicking the cell button on the left toolbar sends them to adjacent inventories instead. A second button then appears, letting you choose which sides auto-export is allowed on.[10][13]

The crafter accepts upgrade cards. One type greatly speeds it up, reaching 64 crafts of each pattern per tick. The other type adds redstone control.[13]

The Reaction Chamber

The Reaction Chamber speeds up chemical reactions using a catalyst fluid and a lot of power. It is also where Shattered Singularities are made, which have several uses in quantum computing. Acceleration Cards raise the power it needs per tick.[10][11]

When it draws power through the ME system, it tries to pull a full tick of power at once. If that fails you can see flickering as the system's power toggles on and off. Adding energy buffers to the AE system fixes this, and so does using fewer acceleration cards. If the chamber can't get enough power for full speed, it shows a warning on its screen.[10][11]

  • Full block pattern provider: it connects the chamber directly to the AE2 grid, so power is drawn when needed. If the grid's stored power is below the per-tick requirement, progress slows down.[11]
  • External power: any source that can push energy should fill its buffers and start processing.[11]
  • Induction Cards (needs Applied Flux): they go in cable-part or directional Pattern Providers and export power stored in Energy Cells. They have a ramp-up timer, so crafting starts slow and speeds up as power builds.[11]
Watch out: Pattern Providers or Interfaces in part form (attached to a cable) do not provide a grid connection. To power the chamber through one, you also need to run a fluix cable directly to the chamber.[11]

Buses and monitors

The ME Import Export Bus combines an import bus and an export bus. Its filter sets what gets exported, and anything not on the filter is a valid stack to import.[14]

The Stock Export Bus exports an exact amount of the filtered stacks. It tracks how much is already in the target inventory and never inserts above that number. Drag an item into the filter slot, then middle-click to set the amount. It will not pull out extra items or fluids if the amount goes over.[10][15]

The ME Throughput Monitor works like a normal monitor but also shows the per-second change of one tracked item or fluid. It does not use a channel. Right-click with an item, or double-right-click with a fluid container, to set it. An empty hand clears it, and shift-right-click with an empty hand locks it. The Throughput Monitor Configurator cycles the display between items per tick, per second and per minute. Readings take a while to stabilise after you change modes.[16]

How do you progress through AdvancedAE?

3 parts

AdvancedAE in this pack breaks down into three rough areas: pattern provider upgrades, the Quantum Computer, and the Quantum Armor. The pack's ae2 quest chapter walks you through the first two. None of the quests listed for this mod ask for the armor, so that part is up to you.[3][7]

Pattern providers and buses

The quest a quest in "?" asks for the Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade. It works on regular AE2 pattern providers and on ExtendedAE's extended pattern providers, and the upgraded provider keeps the slot count it had before.[7][8]

The Quantum Computer chain

The quantum computer is a special crafting computer. It can run an unlimited number of crafting requests as long as it still has crafting storage left, and the crafts share co-processors. The quests take you through it in this order:[3][6]

  1. a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Crafting Unit, the base block of the whole multiblock.[7]
  2. Once you have the unit, a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Computer Core, and a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Crafter.[7]
  3. After the core, a quest in "?" asks for 56 Quantum Computer Structural Glass blocks.[7]
  4. With the structure done, four quests open up: a quest in "?" for the Quantum Computer Accelerator, a quest in "?" for the 128M Quantum Computer Storage, a quest in "?" for the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader, and a quest in "?" for the Quantum Data Entangler.[7]
Watch out: The quest order does not match the crafting order. The core's recipe needs parts that the quests only ask for afterwards, so check the recipe below before you start crafting.[7][9]

Quantum Armor

The quantum armor set is an energy-powered suit with defenses comparable to Netherite by default. You link each piece to your AE2 system through a wireless access point, and you need to stay in range of it for the extra perks to work. You install upgrade cards from the armor configuration menu, which opens with N by default.[17]

The Quantum Upgrade Base Card does nothing on its own, but every upgrade card uses it as a crafting ingredient. That makes it the gate to the whole card tier, so craft it first.[17]

How does AdvancedAE work with other mods?

5 parts

AdvancedAE is an AE2 addon, so almost everything it adds plugs straight into your ME system. In this pack it also reaches into ExtendedAE, EnderDrives, Modern Industrialization and Oritech through its recipes. Here is where those links show up.[1][9]

AE2 and ExtendedAE pattern providers

The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade works on regular AE pattern providers and on ExtendedAE's extended pattern providers. The upgraded provider keeps the slot count it had. The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade upgrades a regular pattern provider directly into an advanced one with 36 pattern slots.[8]

You can also craft the providers outright. The Advanced Pattern Provider is built on an ME Pattern Provider, and the Advanced Extended Pattern Provider is built on an ME Extended Pattern Provider. The capacity upgrade is made in ExtendedAE's Crystal Assembler.[9]

Quantum Computer and ExtendedAE

The Concurrent Processor is the main ExtendedAE part in the Quantum Computer line. It appears in the recipes for the Quantum Crafting Unit, the Quantum Computer Accelerator and the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader. The Multi-Threader is crafted in ExtendedAE's Crystal Assembler.[9]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: advanced_ae:eaequantumunit

The ae2 quest chapter walks you through this build. It starts with the Quantum Crafting Unit a quest in "?", which leads to the Quantum Computer Core a quest in "?" and the Quantum Crafter a quest in "?". After the core you need 56 Quantum Computer Structure blocks a quest in "?". That quest then opens the quests for the Data Entangler a quest in "?", the Accelerator a quest in "?", the 128M storage a quest in "?" and the Multi-Threader a quest in "?".[7]

Quantum Processor routes

The Quantum Processor is the gateway to most other integrations, and it can be made in several different machines. The AE2 Inscriber and ExtendedAE's Crystal Assembler both have mod recipes for it. The pack adds a Modern Industrialization assembler recipe that uses Molten Redstone.[9]

EnderDrives

EnderDrives storage in this pack depends on AdvancedAE items. The 1k Ender Storage Component recipe uses the Quantum Storage Component. The 4k, 16k, 64k and 256k components each upgrade the previous tier and also need a Quantum Processor and a Shattered Singularity. The Ender Item Storage Cells, from 1k up to 256k, also need Quantum Alloy Plates and Quantum Processors.[9]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use AdvancedAE?

2 parts

All the AdvancedAE quests in this pack sit in the "ae2" chapter. The quests are untitled, so I'm going by the item each one asks for. The chapter has two parts: three standalone quests, and one long chain that builds up the Quantum Computer.[7]

Standalone quests

These three each unlock after their own earlier quest and don't lead into the Quantum Computer chain. They are listed in no particular order.[7]

The Quantum Computer chain

This is the main path through the chapter, and you follow it in this order.[7]

  1. a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Crafting Unit. It unlocks only after two earlier quests are done, so it is the entry point to the chain.[7]
  2. a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Computer Core. a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Crafter. Both unlock right after the Quantum Crafting Unit quest, so you can do them in either order.[7]
  3. a quest in "?" asks for 56 of the Quantum Computer Structural Glass. It unlocks after the Quantum Computer Core quest, so plan on a big batch for this one.[7]
  4. Four quests unlock once the structure quest is done. a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Data Entangler. a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Computer Accelerator. a quest in "?" asks for the 128M Quantum Computer Storage. a quest in "?" asks for the Quantum Computer Multi-Threader. You can take these in any order.[7]
Tip: The 56 Quantum Computer Structure quest is the big gate in the chain. Get it done before you chase the four upgrade quests, because none of them open without it.[7]

Which AdvancedAE config options matter?

2 parts

AdvancedAE keeps its settings in config/advanced_ae-common.toml, split into a quantum computer group and a quantum armor group. This pack leaves every one of them at the mod default, so nothing here has been changed from what the mod ships with.[12]

Quantum Computer

  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]] is 7 (mod default 7, allowed range 5 to 12). It sets the maximum dimensions of the Quantum Computer multiblock.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputermaxDataEntanglers]] is 1 (mod default 1, range 1 to 2). It caps how many Data Entanglers one multiblock can have.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxMultiThreaders]] is 1 (mod default 1, range 1 to 2). It caps how many multi threaders one multiblock can have.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerDataEntanglerMultiplication]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMultiThreaderMultiplication]] are both 4 (mod default 4, range 2 to 8). They are the multiplication factors of the data entanglers and the multi threaders.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerAcceleratorThreads]] is 8 (mod default 8, range 4 to 16).[12]

Quantum Armor

The armor options set how strong each card is. All of them are at the mod default in this pack.[12]

  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorPercentageDamageAbsorption]] is 30 (range 5 to 100). It is the maximum percentage of incoming damage the armor absorbs, and it is still limited by the energy buffer in the equipment.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorEvasionChance]] is 30 (evasion % chance, range 0 to 100). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorHpBuffer]] is 20 (range 5 to 50).[12]
  • Movement speeds: [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxWalkSpeed]] is 60, [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxSprintSpeed]] is 80 and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorSwimSpeedBoost]] is 80. These values are divided by 10 before use.[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxFlightSpeed]] is 10 (range 1 to 15). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxJumpHeight]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxStepHeight]] are both 3 (range 1 to 5).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxReachBoost]] is 5 (range 1 to 8). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMagnetRange]] is 12 (range 5 to 15).[12]
  • Combat cards: [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorStrengthBoost]] is 10 (range 5 to 50) and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorAttackSpeedBoost]] is 5 (range 1 to 10).[12]
  • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorLuckBoost]] is 2 (range 1 to 5). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorRenegerationPerTick]] is 10 (range 1 to 20), divided by 10 before use.[12]
Tip: Since the pack changes nothing here, the mod's own defaults are what you get. If you edit any of these values yourself, stay inside the range listed in the config file for that option.[12]

What changed in AdvancedAE between versions?

There isn't much version history to tell for AdvancedAE in this pack, so this section stays short. FTB Skies 2 1.3.1 ships AdvancedAE 1.2.5-1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier.[2]

  • AdvancedAE 1.2.5-1.21.1, the version in FTB Skies 2 1.3.1: the mod's own changelog lists one change, updated to the latest AE2.[2][18]

There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't point to any pack-specific changes to it between releases.[2]
