AdvancedAE is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 26.1.7. An AE2 addon that adds a lot of utilities and quality of life. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is AdvancedAE?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

AdvancedAE is an AE2 addon that focuses on convenience and a smoother experience when you handle your ME System. It also expands what end-game setups can do. This pack includes version 26.1.7.[1][2][3]

What it adds

  • Advanced Pattern Providers: encode a Processing Pattern with the Advanced Pattern Encoder and choose which face of the target machine each input goes into. One block replaces multiple pipes and used sides. Advanced Extended Pattern Provider also has an extended version that holds up to 36 patterns.[1][4][5]
  • Quantum Computer: a special crafting unit that can run an unlimited number of crafting tasks as long as it has crafting storage left, and all those tasks share the co-processors. The Quantum Computer Core works alone with 256M of storage and 8 co-processors. As a multiblock it scales up to 5x5x5 and uses a single channel.[1][6]
  • Quantum Crafter: a powerful auto crafter that does a series of crafts every tick, working directly from the ME System's inventory. It handles recursive crafting and crafts with non-consumed ingredients.[1]
  • Quantum Armor Set: armor that links to your ME System. By default its defenses are comparable to Netherite gear, and upgrade cards add things like flight, night vision, a magnet and auto feeding from ME Storage.[1][7]
  • Reaction Chamber: a machine that uses a lot of power for efficient material processing. It is used to create various items needed to progress in AdvancedAE, and it also offers efficient recipes for other mods.[1]
  • Buses and monitor: a Stock Export Bus that keeps an exact amount in a target inventory, an Import Export Bus, an Advanced IO Bus, and an ME Throughput Monitor that tracks items, fluids and energy.[1][8][9]

Upgrading existing providers

You don't have to rebuild your pattern setup. Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade converts a regular AE2 Pattern Provider or an Extended AE Extended Pattern Provider into the advanced version and keeps the same number of slots. Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade upgrades a regular provider straight to an Advanced Pattern Provider with 36 pattern slots.[1][10]

Unverified Where AdvancedAE sits in the pack's quest book (its chapter, group and neighbouring quests) and whether the ATM Star path uses it are told in the quest chapters, and the sources here do not show them.

How do you get started with AdvancedAE?

5 parts

AdvancedAE is an addon for Applied Energistics 2, so everything here assumes you already have an ME network running. It adds smarter pattern providers, a multiblock crafting computer, an auto crafter and a power armor set. Here is the order I would tackle it in.[1][11]

Step 1: Pattern tools

Start with the Advanced Pattern Encoder. It teaches an advanced pattern provider which face of the target machine each ingredient should be pushed into, so machines that need specific inputs on specific sides can be fed with a single block and no pipes.[12][13]

Right-click it in hand to open its GUI.

Next, upgrade a provider you already have with the Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade. It works on regular AE2 pattern providers and on Extended Pattern Providers from Extended AE, and it keeps the slot count the provider had before. The pack has changed this recipe, so check the one below rather than the mod's default.[14][15]

If you want more room, the Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade turns a regular provider directly into an advanced one with 36 pattern slots.[14]

Watch out: Advanced patterns only decode properly in advanced pattern providers. In any other provider they behave like a normal pattern. Also, if a single item cannot be inserted into its chosen face, nothing is inserted directionally and normal provider behaviour applies.[12]

Step 2: The Reaction Chamber

The Reaction Chamber is how you make the materials the rest of the mod runs on. In this pack, Quantum Alloy, Quantum Infusion and Shattered Singularity all come from the chamber's own recipe type. It is power hungry when sped up, so plan your energy buffers before you add acceleration cards.[1][15][16][17]

    Step 3: Quantum processors

The Quantum Processor is made in the AE2 inscriber, like other AE2 processors. You need an Inscriber Quantum Press first.[15]

Step 4: Your first Quantum Computer

The Quantum Computer Core is the heart of the quantum computer. On its own it gives 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, and it is the only block that can form a quantum computer by itself. As a standalone computer it needs power through its Up or Down sides.[18]

To grow it into a multiblock, add storage blocks like the 128M Quantum Computer Storage and 256M Quantum Computer Storage, and Quantum Computer Accelerator blocks, which add 8 co-processors each. All running crafts share those co-processors. The maximum size is 7x7x7, which matches the pack's [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]] value.[18][19]

The Quantum Data Entangler and Quantum Computer Multi-Threader multiply storage and co-processing by 4. The pack keeps the limit at one of each per multiblock, so save them for when the rest of the build is in place.[18][19]

        After that

Once the basics work, the Quantum Crafter is a great next build: it keeps chosen recipes crafting and holds stock levels for you. After that you can look at the quantum armor set, which links to your ME network and gets its abilities from upgrade cards.[15][20][21]

        How does AdvancedAE work?

        8 parts

AdvancedAE is an addon for your ME system. Its core systems are pattern providers that push items to specific sides of a machine, a multiblock crafting computer that shares its co-processors between every job it runs, and a set of smarter buses and machines around your ME system. This section walks through how each one works in the pack.[11]

        Quantum Computer

The quantum computer is a special kind of crafting computer. It can run an unlimited number of crafting requests as long as it has enough crafting storage, and all of those concurrent tasks share every co-processor in the multiblock. The whole thing uses a single channel.[1][18]

The Quantum Core is the heart of it. On its own it gives 256M of crafting storage and 8 co-processor threads, and it is the only block that can form a working quantum computer by itself. If you run it standalone, power has to come in through the Up or Down sides, where the connectors are. Build a multiblock around it and you get a much stronger computer.[18]

        Parts of the multiblock

        • Quantum Storage: comes in 128M and 256M versions. These add crafting storage to the core, which raises the number of concurrent tasks the computer can run.[18]
        • Quantum Accelerator: adds co-processors to the multiblock. The pack sets 8 threads per accelerator, the same as the mod default ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerAcceleratorThreads]]). Since every running pattern shares them, it is worth building plenty.[18][19]
        • Quantum Data Entangler: affects all storage blocks in the multiblock and multiplies their storage by 4. Only one fits in each quantum computer.[18][19]
        • Quantum Computer Multi-Threader: multiplies the co-processing power of the accelerators by 4. Only one fits in each quantum computer.[18][19]
        • Quantum Structure: the framing blocks that connect everything together. They are used on the outside layer of the multiblock.[17][18]

The multiblock has a few build rules. Follow them or it will not form.[18]

        • The maximum size is 7x7x7 external dimensions in this pack ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]]).[18][19]
        • No empty spaces are allowed inside. You can fill gaps, but that gives no extra benefit.[18]
        • At most one Data Entangler and at most one Multi-Threader.[18][19]
Tip: The size limit, accelerator threads, entangler and multi-threader counts and both multipliers are all server configs. This pack keeps the mod defaults for every one of them (7, 8, 1, 1, 4 and 4). You can check the limits on your own instance in the item tooltips.[18][19]

        Crystal Assembler (extendedae)

The Data Entangler is made in the crystal assembler from Extended AE.

            Recipe id: advanced_ae:eaequantummultithreader

The Multi-Threader is also a crystal assembler recipe.

            Quantum Crafter

The Quantum Crafter is a configurable auto-crafter with direct access to your ME system's inventory. It can also run fluid substitution crafts and recursive crafts, where an input is also an output.[21]

            1. Place the crafter in your network and connect it with a cable. It needs a single channel.[21]
            2. Encode the recipes you want run indefinitely as crafting patterns and insert them into the pattern slots.[21]
            3. Use the square button at the bottom of a pattern to enable or disable it. Disabled patterns are never crafted.[21]
            4. Click the cog button to open the Pattern Configuration screen. There you set how much of each ingredient to keep in the ME system, and a maximum amount of the end product so you do not over-craft expensive items.[21]
            5. Press enter after typing a number to apply it. Mathematical expressions work, and an indicator shows whether the value was applied. An output limit of 0 removes the limit, so crafting continues until the inputs run out.[17][21]

By default the crafter pushes its products straight into the ME system. Left-click the cell button on the left toolbar to push into adjacent inventories instead, and use the extra button that appears to choose which sides are allowed for auto-export.[21]

Upgrade cards unlock its full speed. One kind greatly accelerates crafting, reaching 64 crafts of each pattern per tick, and the other gives redstone control.[21]

            Advanced Pattern Providers

The Advanced Extended Pattern Provider (Advanced Extended Pattern Provider) lets you choose the face each individual item in a pattern is pushed to. That means machines that need specific inputs on specific sides can be automated with one block and no pipes. The extended version can house up to 36 patterns in a single pattern provider.[13]

You set the faces with the Advanced Pattern Encoder. Right-click it to open its GUI and insert an encoded Processing Pattern into the left slot. The raw ingredients are listed, and each row has buttons for every block face the ingredient can be sent to. Leaving the "A" button selected sends it to the face directly connected to the provider, while picking a face forces items into that face.[12][17]

Watch out: Advanced patterns only decode properly in an Advanced Pattern Provider. In any other pattern provider they behave like a normal pattern. Also, if even one item cannot be inserted into its specified face, nothing is inserted directionally and standard pattern provider behaviour applies.[12]

You do not have to rebuild existing providers. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade works on regular AE pattern providers and Extended AE pattern providers and keeps the same number of slots, so you do not lose the materials spent on an earlier extended upgrade. The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade upgrades a regular provider straight to an Advanced Pattern Provider with 36 pattern slots.[14][17]

              Recipe id: advanced_ae:eaelargeappupgrade

The capacity upgrade is a crystal assembler recipe from Extended AE.

              Buses

              • Import Export Bus: a mix of an import bus and an export bus. The filter sets the stacks to export, and anything not on the filter is valid to import.[22]
              • ME Advanced IO Bus: inherits the functions of both parents and starts faster, with a base speed 8 times higher than the base speed of the standard bus it builds on. It takes some time to ramp up but is very fast when fully upgraded. It exports according to its filter up to a fixed amount, and imports anything not filtered for export. Import and export operations are counted separately, so the bus will not get stuck doing one or the other.[15][23]
              • Regulate mode on the Advanced IO Bus: when on, the bus attempts to import what exceeds the filter amounts and does so before importing unfiltered items. When off, it keeps exported items even if they are over the filter.[17][23]
              • Stock Export Bus: exports an exact amount of each filtered stack. Drag an item into the filter slot and middle-click to set the amount. It keeps track of the amount currently present in the target inventory and does not insert above the configured number, but it does not extract extra items or fluids if they go over that amount.[24]

              Reaction Chamber

The Reaction Chamber speeds up chemical reactions using a catalyst fluid and a great amount of power. Its recipes include the Shattered Singularity, which has several applications in quantum computing. It can be quite power hungry when sped up, because Acceleration Cards increase the required power per tick.[16][17]

If it draws power straight through the ME system and that fails for a tick of processing, you might see flickering as the power toggles on and off. Equipping the AE system with energy buffers fixes that. The chamber can also pull energy directly from energy cells in your drives if you have Applied Flux. Using fewer Acceleration Cards is also an option if there is no more power generation available at the moment. There are a few ways to feed it:[16]

              • Full block pattern provider: connects the chamber directly to the grid so it can draw power when needed. If the total power stored in the grid is lower than the required power per tick, progress slows and a warning is displayed on screen. A few energy buffers on the grid are recommended.[16]
              • External power: any source that can push energy should be enough to fill its buffers and start processing. If power arrives at an insufficient rate, a warning is displayed in the chamber's screen.[16]
              • Induction Cards (needs Applied Flux): they go in cable part or directional pattern providers and export power stored in energy cells. They have a ramp-up timer, starting slow and increasing speed with time, so crafting speed won't be maxed at first due to lack of stored power.[16]
Watch out: Pattern providers or interfaces in part form (attached to a cable) do not provide a grid connection. To power the chamber with those you will also need to connect a fluix cable directly to it.[16]

              ME Throughput Monitor

This monitor provides the same functions as a normal monitor and adds a throughput meter. It tracks one item or fluid type and shows how its quantity changes, and it does not need a channel. Right-click with an item (or double-right-click with a fluid container) to set it, right-click with an empty hand to clear it, and shift-right-click with an empty hand to lock it.[25]

Right-clicking a monitor with the Throughput Monitor Configurator cycles the display between items per tick, per second and per minute. Readings take a while to settle after a change, so ignore the first values. The pack uses the default cache size of 80 for the per-minute modes (Miscellaneous.throughputMonitorCacheSize). Higher values give more precision but make the monitor react more slowly.[19][25]

              Quantum Armor

The quantum armor is an energy-powered set with defenses comparable to Netherite by default. Its buffer can create an energy shield, and the pack caps incoming damage absorption at 30% ([[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorPercentageDamageAbsorption]]), still limited by the energy stored in the equipment. The boots negate fall damage and the chestplate removes the mining penalty while flying.[19][20]

Link each piece individually by inserting it into the appropriate slots, and stay in range of the connected access point for the system-based perks to work. Once the pieces are equipped, press N (the default hotkey) to open the Quantum Armor Configuration Menu, where you can add or remove upgrades, toggle them and adjust their settings. The Auto Feeding Card pulls chosen food from the ME system when you are hungry, and the Auto Stock Card keeps set amounts of items in your inventory.[20]

How do you progress through AdvancedAE?

              5 parts

AdvancedAE has no single tier ladder like a tech mod. It builds on Applied Energistics 2 and Extended AE with smarter pattern providers, a multiblock crafting computer, faster buses and an armor set wired into your ME network. Below is a sensible order to unlock it, going by the pack's recipes and the in-game guide.[11]

Unverified The sources here show no quest chapter that covers this mod, so there is no quest-guided order for it. Check the pack's quest book yourself to see whether anything touches it.

                        Advanced pattern providers

This is the quickest win. The Advanced Pattern Provider and the Advanced Extended Pattern Provider let you choose which face of the target machine each pattern ingredient is pushed into. That handles machines that want specific inputs on specific sides, with no pipes. The extended version holds up to 36 patterns.[13][15]

                          The ME Import Export Bus.

The ME Advanced IO Bus is the step up. It inherits the functions of both parents, takes time to ramp up, and is very fast once fully upgraded. It exports to its filter up to a fixed amount and can be set to regulate stock. When regulating, it imports anything over the set amount first.[15][23]

                          Quantum armor

The quantum armor set (Quantum Helmet, Quantum Chestplate, Quantum Leggings and Quantum Boots) is the end of the line. By default it is an energy-powered suit with defenses comparable to Netherite. Its buffer can make an energy shield, the boots also provide fall damage negation, and the chestplate can eliminate the flying mining penalty. Link each piece through an access point and stay in range to unlock the extra perks.[20]

The real power comes from upgrade cards. With the pieces equipped, the in-game guide says you open the Quantum Armor Configuration Menu with a hotkey (N by default) to add or remove cards, toggle them and configure the ones that have settings. The Quantum Upgrade Base Card is used as a crafting ingredient for all upgrade cards.[20]

How does AdvancedAE work with other mods?

                          2 parts

In this pack, the clearest link between AdvancedAE and other mods is a pair of pack-added recipes. Both use Quantum Infusion together with a fluid from Just Dire Things, and both are of the type added by FTB Evolution 2 Companion, called fabricating.[15]

Fabricating recipes that use Quantum Infusion

The first one makes Beast Mind. It needs 8,000 Quantum Infusion and 8,000 Time Fluid Source, so you will want a steady supply of both before you start.[15]

Pack-added recipe: Quantum Infusion from AdvancedAE plus Time fluid from Just Dire Things.

The second makes the Heart of Luna Trophy from Stellaris. It costs more: 16,000 Quantum Infusion and 16,000 Xp Fluid Source.[15]

Tip: Both recipes ask for the same amount of Quantum Infusion as fluid, so plan your Quantum Infusion production around the bigger trophy recipe if you want both outputs.[15]

                          Working with Applied Energistics 2

AdvancedAE is an addon for Applied Energistics 2, so most of what it adds plugs straight into your ME system. The Advanced Pattern Provider Upgrade can be used on regular AE2 Pattern Providers, and the result keeps the same number of slots the provider had before.[1][14]

The Advanced Pattern Provider Capacity Upgrade goes a step further: it turns a regular Pattern Provider directly into an Advanced Pattern Provider with 36 pattern slots.[14]

The Quantum Armor Set also hooks into the AE2 system. You link each piece through an access point, and the extra perks only work while you are within range of that connected access point.[20]

                          Which AdvancedAE config options matter?

                          2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.3.1 guide

AdvancedAE keeps its settings in config/advanced_ae-common.toml, split into a quantum computer group and a quantum armor group. This pack leaves every one of them at the mod default, so nothing here has been changed from what the mod ships with.[26]

                          Quantum Computer

                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxSize]] is 7 (mod default 7, allowed range 5 to 12). It sets the maximum dimensions of the Quantum Computer multiblock.[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputermaxDataEntanglers]] is 1 (mod default 1, range 1 to 2). It caps how many Data Entanglers one multiblock can have.[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMaxMultiThreaders]] is 1 (mod default 1, range 1 to 2). It caps how many multi threaders one multiblock can have.[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerDataEntanglerMultiplication]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerMultiThreaderMultiplication]] are both 4 (mod default 4, range 2 to 8). They are the multiplication factors of the data entanglers and the multi threaders.[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum computer.quantumComputerAcceleratorThreads]] is 8 (mod default 8, range 4 to 16).[26]

                          Quantum Armor

The armor options set how strong each card is. All of them are at the mod default in this pack.[26]

                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorPercentageDamageAbsorption]] is 30 (range 5 to 100). It is the maximum percentage of incoming damage the armor absorbs, and it is still limited by the energy buffer in the equipment.[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorEvasionChance]] is 30 (evasion % chance, range 0 to 100). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorHpBuffer]] is 20 (range 5 to 50).[26]
                          • Movement speeds: [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxWalkSpeed]] is 60, [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxSprintSpeed]] is 80 and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorSwimSpeedBoost]] is 80. These values are divided by 10 before use.[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxFlightSpeed]] is 10 (range 1 to 15). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxJumpHeight]] and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxStepHeight]] are both 3 (range 1 to 5).[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMaxReachBoost]] is 5 (range 1 to 8). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorMagnetRange]] is 12 (range 5 to 15).[26]
                          • Combat cards: [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorStrengthBoost]] is 10 (range 5 to 50) and [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorAttackSpeedBoost]] is 5 (range 1 to 10).[26]
                          • [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorLuckBoost]] is 2 (range 1 to 5). [[config:config/advanced_ae-common.toml#quantum armor.quantumArmorRenegerationPerTick]] is 10 (range 1 to 20), divided by 10 before use.[26]
Tip: Since the pack changes nothing here, the mod's own defaults are what you get. If you edit any of these values yourself, stay inside the range listed in the config file for that option.[26]

What changed in AdvancedAE between versions?

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships AdvancedAE 26.1.7, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier.[27]

The one change the sources here confirm is in 26.1.7: the Quantum Crafter universal terminal upgrade and combine recipes were fixed.[28]

The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so there is nothing more to report about how it changed between pack releases.[27]
