What is Stellaris?

Stellaris is the space exploration mod in the pack. This pack ships Stellaris 2.0.7, and it has been included since version 1.0.2 or earlier.[1]

The mod adds a full space-exploration experience to Minecraft, where you can discover new planets, moons and galaxies. Here is what the mod's own description says it offers:[2]

  • Rocket crafting and launching: you build your own rocket with a component system, so you can upgrade and customize your spacecraft step by step.[2]
  • Planetary exploration: planets and moons each have their own environment and gravity level. Some have alien flora and fauna, others hold rare minerals and treasures.[2]
  • Advanced technology and machinery: advanced energy systems, machines for resource extraction and processing, and specialized tools for space survival and exploration.[2]
  • Aliens and hostile entities: you may meet alien species, and some are hostile and need a proper combat plan.[2]
  • Multiplayer: you can explore, build and cooperate with other players as a team.[2]
  • Customizable options: settings let you tune the difficulty and complexity of your space adventure.[2]
  • Datapack and addon support: new planets can be added with a datapack, and addons can add new features.[2]

Keep in mind that this list comes from the mod's own project page. It describes the mod in general, so any recipe or setting that this pack changes is not covered here.[2]

How do you get started with Stellaris?

3 parts

Stellaris is a space exploration mod: you craft a rocket and visit other planets and moons. Its advancements give you milestones to aim for, including finding titanium ore, crafting the tablet, launching your first rocket and landing on the moon. This page covers the first things to make, in the order I would do them.[2][3]

Tip: The mod has an in-game tablet with a planet selection app, a stats app and a wiki app about space exploration and Stellaris features. One of the advancements is about crafting the tablet, so it is worth getting early.[3]

Step 1: Get Desh and Novite flowing

Desh and Novite both come as Raw, Ingot and Block items, and the mod has Moon Desh Ore and Novite Ore blocks. This pack adds machine recipes in many other mods that give you Raw Desh and Raw Novite, so you can use whichever processing line you already have. That includes macerating in FTB Industrial Contraptions, the SAG mill in Ender IO, the pulverizer in Energized Power and Oritech, and crushing in Occultism.[3][4]

2× Raw DeshAdded by the pack

Crushing (occultism)

    Recipe id: ftb:unification/occultism/crushing/other/ore_to_raw_ore/desh

Occultism crushing is one of the pack's Raw Desh routes and gives 2 Raw Desh.

Then turn the raw material into Desh Ingot. The pack adds plain furnace and blast furnace recipes, and also smelting recipes that take intermediate products from FTB Industrial Contraptions, such as Crushed Ore, Washed Ore and Refined Concentrate.[4]

    Smelting

      Recipe id: ftb:unification/minecraft/smelting/oritech/chunk_to_ingot/desh

If you already have a smeltery from Hephaestus Forge, you can cast Desh instead.[4]

      Casting Table (hephaestus)

      • 90× Molten Desh

      Recipe id: ftb:hephaestus_materials/casting/desh/ingot

Casting an ingot takes 90 Molten Desh. The matching block recipe takes 810.

Novite Ingot follows the same pattern, with its own pack-added smelting, blasting and foundry recipes.[4]

      Step 2: Plan for oxygen

The oxygen system is switched on in this pack's config, so plan your air before you leave. The base drain is 1, sprinting multiplies the drain by 2 and using a jet multiplies it by 4. Running out of oxygen deals 0.5 damage.[5]

The mod's electrolyze recipe is how you get your own Oxygen. It turns 10 water into 10 Hydrogen and 5 oxygen.[4]

      Electrolyze (stellaris)

      Recipe id: stellaris:electrolyze

Water in, Hydrogen and Oxygen out.

The settings behind this are oxygenConfig.enableOxygenSystem, oxygenConfig.baseOxygenDrain, oxygenConfig.sprintOxygenDrainMultiplier and oxygenConfig.jetOxygenDrainMultiplier.[5]

Step 3: Build toward the rocket

The mod describes rocket building as a component system with progressive upgrades. The Rocket has its own recipe type, the rocket station, which is different from normal crafting. The Antenna and Autopilot Module have ordinary shaped crafting recipes, so look at those next.[2][4]

In this pack vehicleConfig.shouldLanderExplode is set to false, so landers do not explode.[5]

        How does Stellaris work?

        9 parts

Stellaris adds a small tech tree of its own on top of the rockets: generators, cables, pipes, tanks and a handful of processing machines. The sources I have show the machine names and this pack's config values, so this section covers what they confirm. Build layouts and multiblock shapes are not among them.[3][5]

        The machine line-up

        • Power: Coal Generator, Diesel Generator, Solar Panel, Tier 1 Power Bank and Cable.[3]
        • Fluids: Pipe, Tier 1 Fluid Tank, Water Pump, Pumpjack and Fuel Refinery.[3]
        • Processing: Blender, Electrolyzer and Vacuumator.[3]
        • Life support and gravity: Oxygen Distributor, Oxygen Propagator and Gravity Manipulator.[3]
        • Other stations: Engineering Station, Laboratory, Space Farm, Cargo Unloader and Rocket Launch Pad.[3]

        Blender

The Blender has its own recipe type, blending, and it is what makes Moon Stone Dust. In this pack a craft costs 150 energy (machineConfig.blenderEnergyPerCraft) and takes 60 ticks (machineConfig.blenderTicksPerCraft).[4][5]

        Blending (stellaris)

          Recipe id: stellaris:moon_stone_dust

The blending recipe for Moon Stone Dust.

          Electrolyzer

The Electrolyzer splits water into Hydrogen and Oxygen. That is how you get the gases for rocket fuel and life support.[4]

          Electrolyze (stellaris)

          Recipe id: stellaris:electrolyze

Water goes in, hydrogen and oxygen come out.

          Vacuumator

The Vacuumator uses both power and water. This pack sets 100 energy per craft (machineConfig.vacuumatorEnergyPerCraft) and 100 water per craft (machineConfig.vacuumatorWaterPerCraft). Its duration multiplier is 20 (machineConfig.vacuumatorDurationMultiplier).[3][5]

          Oil

Oil is a fluid in the mod, and the Pumpjack is the machine that extracts it. Here is how the pack sets it up:[3][5]

Oil lakes also generate through world generation, filled with oil and walled with stone.[6]

          Oxygen

The oxygen system is switched on in this pack (oxygenConfig.enableOxygenSystem). Your oxygen drains at a base rate of 1 (oxygenConfig.baseOxygenDrain). Sprinting multiplies that by 2 (oxygenConfig.sprintOxygenDrainMultiplier) and using a jet multiplies it by 4 (oxygenConfig.jetOxygenDrainMultiplier).[5]

When you have no oxygen you take 0.5 damage (oxygenConfig.noOxygenDamage) every 20 ticks (oxygenConfig.oxygenDamageInterval). The oxygen level itself updates every 20 ticks (oxygenConfig.oxygenUpdateInterval).[5]

          Gravity

Gravity effects are enabled (gravityConfig.enableGravityEffects) and refresh every 20 ticks (gravityConfig.gravityUpdateInterval). The Gravity Manipulator uses 1 energy per tick (gravityConfig.gravityManipulatorEnergyPerTick). Its value can go from 0.5 (gravityConfig.minGravityManipulatorValue) up to 20 (gravityConfig.maxGravityManipulatorValue).[3][5]

          Rockets and cargo

          Hazards

Corrosion deals 1 damage (effectsConfig.corrosionDamage) at an interval of 20 (effectsConfig.corrosionTickInterval). Infection deals 1 damage (effectsConfig.infectionDamage) with a tick chance of 100 (effectsConfig.infectionTickChance). The lunar parasite settings are enabled (parasiteConfig.enableParasiteDrop), with a minimum interval of 100 ticks (parasiteConfig.minDropIntervalTicks), a random maximum of 1,100 (parasiteConfig.randomDropIntervalMaxTicks) and a research delay of 600 (parasiteConfig.researchDelay).[3][5]

Unverified How cables, pipes and tanks move power and fluids, their capacities and throughput, and how machines like the Fuel Refinery and Oxygen Distributor are set up, is not shown in the sources here. The mod's tablet has a wiki application described as giving information on Stellaris features, so check there in game.

How do you progress through Stellaris?

          5 parts

Stellaris in this pack is built around two metals, Desh and Novite. Each comes as a raw item (Raw Desh, Raw Novite), an ingot (Desh Ingot, Novite Ingot) and a storage block (Desh Block, Novite Block). The pack adds a lot of machine recipes around them so you can process them with whatever tech you already have.[4]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest that covers Stellaris, so the pack's quest book gives no tier order I can confirm. The mod's own data files that would define its stages are also not shown here, so I am not guessing at a tier ladder.

          Getting raw Desh and Novite

The pack adds ore-to-raw recipes for both metals in several other mods. You can use FTB Industrial Contraptions (macerating), Ender IO (SAG milling), Energized Power (pulverizer and filtration plant), LTX Industries (grinding) and Oritech (pulverizer and fragment forge).[4]

          • Occultism crushing gives 2 Raw Desh or 2 Raw Novite per recipe.[4]
          • SAG milling in Ender IO also gives cobblestone, and the Energized Power filtration plant also gives a stone pebble.[4]

Turning them into ingots and blocks

Both metals have pack-added smelting and blasting routes. The FTB Industrial Contraptions refining chain accepts crushed ore, washed ore or refined concentrate and smelts each of them into an ingot, for Desh and for Novite alike. The pack also adds Oritech shard-to-ingot foundry recipes, plus smelting and blasting recipes for Oritech chunks, clumps and crystals. Raw blocks of each metal smelt or blast into the matching storage block.[4]

If you use Hephaestus Forge, Desh can also be cast. A casting table takes 90 units of Molten Desh for an ingot, and a casting basin takes 810 for a block.[4]

          Mod machines and rocketry

Stellaris has its own recipe types. Electrolysis turns 10 water into 10 Hydrogen and 5 Oxygen. Moon Stone Dust comes from a blending recipe. Vaccine has its own recipe type. The Rocket is made in a rocket station.[4]

Antenna and Autopilot Module are ordinary shaped crafting recipes from the mod.[4]

            Trophies

The pack adds fabricating recipes for two trophies. The Heart of Luna Trophy needs 16,000 of Quantum Infusion from AdvancedAE and 16,000 of XP fluid from Just Dire Things. The Star Crawler Trophy needs 16,000 of that XP fluid and 16,000 of Fuel.[4]

            Building blocks

For decoration, the mod has stonecutting recipes for Desh, iron and moon stone blocks. For example, Desh Slab and Desh Plating Slab are made 2 at a time, and Desh Pillar, Desh Plating Stairs and Chiseled Moon Stone have stonecutting recipes too.[4]

How does Stellaris work with other mods?

            4 parts

Stellaris does not live on its own in this pack. The links to other mods come from recipes the pack added or changed, so you can use the machines you already have to feed your space program. Here are the connections the recipes show.[4]

            Desh and Novite ore processing

FTB Industrial Contraptions ore processing leads straight into Stellaris metals. The pack adds smelting recipes that turn Crushed Ore, Washed Ore and Refined Concentrate into Desh Ingot or Novite Ingot. Here is one of the Desh ones:[4]

                Casting Desh

Hephaestus Forge can cast Desh from ftb:molten_desh. A casting table makes a Desh Ingot from 90 units, and a casting basin makes a Desh Block from 810 units. Both recipes are added by the pack.[4]

                Fuel refinery and Oritech oil

Stellaris has a fuel refinery, and the pack ties it to Oritech. The pack changed the default fuel refining recipe and added a separate one named for Oritech oil. Both involve Oil, Diesel and Fuel. The recipe dump here does not separate inputs from outputs for these, so check the rendered recipes below for the exact amounts.[4]

                Boss trophies

The Stellaris boss trophies are made in the fabricating machine from FTB Evolution 2 Companion, and they pull in fluids from other mods. The Heart of Luna Trophy needs 16,000 of Quantum Infusion from AdvancedAE plus 16,000 of Xp Fluid Source from Just Dire Things. The Star Crawler Trophy needs 16,000 of that same XP fluid plus 16,000 of Stellaris Fuel.[4]

                Which Stellaris config options matter?

                7 parts

Stellaris keeps its settings in two files: config/stellaris.json for gameplay and config/stellaris_client.json for visuals on your own screen. Below are the options you are most likely to touch, with the exact values this pack sets. The sources here do not show the mod's own defaults, so I can't tell you which of these the pack changed.[5][7]

                Oxygen

The oxygen system is switched on in this pack, so you need to plan your air supply off world.[5]

                Gravity

                Oil

                Machines

                Rockets and landers

                Hazards and extras

                Client options

Tip: If you want to see how the oxygen system is behaving, showOxygenDebug is the client option to look at. The pack has it set to false.[7]

What changed in Stellaris between versions?

                2 parts

FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Stellaris 2.0.7, built for MC 26.1.2 on NeoForge. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the two mod changelogs available.[1]

Stellaris 2.0.7 (the version in this pack)

                • Trophies now play an animation when you right-click them.[8]
                • The research tab now shows the success chance, and a fix means research success chances are no longer 1% too high.[8]
                • The oil finder module recipe was changed.[8]
                • The potentials dependency was bumped to 0.11.0.[8]

                Stellaris 2.0.5

This was a big quality-of-life and bug-fix release. Everything below is already included in the 2.0.7 you have in the pack.[1][9]

                • Generator tooltips show energy production per tick, and machine tooltips show energy consumption per tick.[9]
                • Leaving a rocket during the countdown cancels the launch and refunds the fuel. You can no longer leave a rocket or a lander during flight.[9]
                • The lander crash explosion radius now grows with impact speed.[9]
                • The pumpjack got a new model and animation, the titanium door was improved, and the antenna tooltip was improved.[9]
                • The minimum Architectury API version was bumped to 20.1.16.[9]

The fixes in 2.0.5 cover a lot of ground:[9]

                • Jetpack and lander controls now respect key remapping.[9]
                • Players no longer get stuck on the death screen after a lander crash, and a rocket no longer flies forever if the player leaves it during flight.[9]
                • The space farm no longer destroys its content when you try to change it, and it drops its content when broken.[9]
                • The cargo unloader no longer deletes items when full and no longer empties landers that haven't landed.[9]
                • Antennas no longer delete the block under the launch pad, and the space station option now shows even when the blueprint is not in the 1st rocket slot.[9]
                • Cable energy distribution with low energy was fixed, along with fuel refinery output tanks that never filled completely.[9]
                • The electrolyzer now stops before getting full, which could previously make it consume too much water.[9]
                • Torches are no longer consumed when placed without oxygen, vaccines are now consumed when used, and bone meal is no longer wasted on fully grown crops.[9]
                • The oil finder now shows the no energy message, the flag loot table was fixed, and a small memory leak was fixed.[9]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for Stellaris, and no changelog for versions between 2.0.5 and 2.0.7, so which pack release moved the mod from one version to another is not shown.
