What is Utilitarian?
Utilitarian is part of the pack, and this version ships Utilitarian 1.21.1-0.16.1 (the file is utilitarian-1.21.1-0.16.1.jar).[1]
It's not a new addition either. It was first included in version 2.2 or earlier, so it has been around for a good while.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm what Utilitarian adds, who it's best suited for, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There's no in-jar guidebook and no platform description to draw on. The mod also doesn't appear on the ATM Star quest path, and no quests in this pack involve it. Check the later sections of this guide for anything that can be confirmed, and don't assume specific items or mechanics until they've been verified in-game.
How do you get started with Utilitarian?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Utilitarian is a pile of small quality-of-life blocks and tools, and nearly all of its recipes here are the mod's own, so you can start with whatever helps you most. This is the order I'd make things in. It's my suggestion, not a fixed progression.[2]
Start with the Trowel
The Trowel is the simplest tool in the mod to craft, so it's a good first item. Its tooltip says shift right click changes its pull setting.[2][3]

Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal
The pack changed how you get Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal. Both are shapeless recipes registered under the actuallyadditions namespace, not Utilitarian's own. They are listed here so you know where to craft them.[2]
Redstone helpers
Once you start building contraptions, the Redstone Clock is handy. Right click it with an empty hand to change the pulse frequency, and sneak while doing so to increase it faster.[2][3]

The TPS Meter outputs a redstone signal based on the dimension's TPS, which is useful if you want automation to react to server lag.[2][3]

Quiet and safe bases
The Sound Muffler mutes sounds within a set block radius. That's a nice fix for noisy machine rooms. I couldn't confirm the exact radius from the sources I have.[2][3]
If wandering traders keep landing on top of you, craft a trader carpet. Arriving traders end up on that block instead of in your face. There is one carpet per dye color, and the white one is shown here.[2][3]

Unverified There is no in-jar guidebook for this mod, and I found no quests for it in the pack. What the Trowel's pull setting does exactly, and the sound muffler's default radius, could not be confirmed from the available sources.
How does Utilitarian work?
6 parts
Here is how the Utilitarian pieces that the pack's sources cover behave: a redstone clock, lamps, trader and raider controls, and a few tools and extras.[4][5]
Redstone Clock
The Redstone Clock is a pulse source you tune by hand. Right click it with an empty hand to change the pulse frequency, and sneak while doing so to increase it faster. This pack added its own recipe for it, so don't expect the mod's default crafting.[4][5]

Lamps
The Lapis Lamp lights up an area on the client side only. The area is still dark, you just can't see it.[4][5]

Both lamp types have an inverted version: the Inverted Lapis Lamp is made from the Lapis Lamp, and the Inverted Redstone Lamp from a regular redstone lamp.[5]
Trader and raider control
Trader carpets, like the Black Trader Carpet, give arriving traders a block to land on instead of ending up in your face. They come in several colors, and each color has its own recipe.[4][5]

The other colors follow the same pattern in the pack's recipes.
The trapped variants, such as the Black Trapped Trader Carpet, will kill the trader. Each color has its own trapped recipe too.[4][5]

Other blocks and items
- A TPS meter outputs a redstone signal based on the TPS of the dimension it is in.[4]
- The sound muffler mutes sounds within a set block radius.[4]
- The trowel changes its pull setting when you shift right click.[4]
- The pack has recipes for the Fluid Hopper and the Angel Block, the latter with an additional second recipe variant.[5]

Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal
Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal have recipes listed under the Actually Additions namespace, and the pack has changed both.[5]
Config options
The pack's Utilitarian config only covers small quality-of-life settings, not machine behavior. Recipe advancements are disabled through disableRecipeAdvancements. The startup ding is enabled with enableDingDongStartupSound, and it plays the sound set in dingDongSound, which is the experience orb pickup sound here.[6]
noStartupMessagesEnabled is on, so any message containing one of the word sequences in noStartupMessagesMessages is stopped. The pack's list covers the Ender IO alpha warnings, Mekanism messages (one of the sequences is "Mekanism is currently in alpha"), and a message about Observable.[6]
How do you progress through Utilitarian?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Utilitarian doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack. The recipe list shows a set of standalone utility items and blocks, each with its own crafting recipe, so you can grab whatever helps you whenever you like.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest chapter that covers this mod, so there is no quest order I can give you. If you want to check, look through the pack's quest book yourself.
Crafts that build on each other
A few recipes use another Utilitarian item as an ingredient, so those are the closest thing to steps in this mod. The Lapis Lamp leads on to the Inverted Lapis Lamp, and the Inverted Redstone Lamp follows the same idea. The recipes are shown below.[2]

The trader carpets work the same way. Each colour of Trader Carpet, such as the White Trader Carpet, is crafted first. You then turn it into the matching Trapped Trader Carpet, such as the White Trapped Trader Carpet. Every colour in the recipe list has both versions.[2]

Other Utilitarian crafts
- The Snad family in this mod is Snad, Red Snad, Soul Snad and Drit. Some of their recipes are shown below.[2]
- Trowel, Block Magnet, Fluid Hopper and Well Behaved Dropper are standalone crafts, and their recipes are shown below.[2]
- TPS Meter, Sound Muffler and Un-Name Tag are small crafts built from vanilla items.[2]
- Angel Block has more than one recipe in the mod, listed as angel_block and angel_block_rot, and both give you the same block.[2]
- The anti-trader and anti-raider set is the No Soliciting Banner, Restraining Order and Raider Outpost Claim Block.[2]

What the pack changed
The pack adds its own recipe for the Redstone Clock through a KubeJS script. The mod's own recipe for it is still in the recipe list too. The recipe below is the one the pack added.[2]
The recipes that make Tiny Coal and Tiny Charcoal are also marked as changed by the pack. They sit under the actuallyadditions namespace, not under Utilitarian itself.[2]

Which Utilitarian config options matter?
3 parts
Utilitarian is a small utility mod, and everything you can tweak in this pack lives in one file: config/utilitarian-common.toml. The options are mostly about quality of life at startup and about recipe advancements. Here is exactly how the pack sets them.[6]
Startup ding sound
- enableDingDongStartupSound is set to true in this pack, so you get a ding when the game finishes starting up.[6]
- dingDongSound is set to entity.experience_orb.pickup, which is the experience orb pickup sound. The config comment lists that same sound as the default, so the pack has not changed it. Swap in another sound name here if you want a different ding.[6]
Hiding noisy startup messages
noStartupMessagesEnabled is set to true, so the No Startup Messages module is active. Any message that contains one of the word sequences in noStartupMessagesMessages gets stopped.[6]
The pack fills that list with these sequences:[6]
- This game is using an alpha build of Ender IO[6]
- The Mekanism Team[6]
- Thanks for using[6]
- Mekanism is currently in alpha[6]
- [Warning] Ender IO is in alpha[6]
- This pack contains Observable[6]
Recipe advancements
disableRecipeAdvancements is set to true, so recipe advancements are disabled in this pack.[6]
Unverified The sources do not show Utilitarian's mod defaults for the startup sound toggle, the No Startup Messages module, the message list or recipe advancements, so it is unconfirmed whether the pack changed any of those values.
What changed in Utilitarian between versions?
1 part
The pack changelogs only record which Utilitarian version each release shipped. They don't say what changed inside the mod, so this section is a version trail and not a feature changelog. All the Mods 10 4.14 ships Utilitarian 1.21.1-0.16.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 2.2 or earlier.[1]
Version bumps by pack release
- 2.26: 1.21.1-0.13.4 to 1.21.1-0.13.5.[7]
- 2.36: 1.21.1-0.13.5 to 1.21.1-0.13.6.[8]
- 2.37: 1.21.1-0.13.6 to 1.21.1-0.13.7.[9]
- 2.39: 1.21.1-0.13.7 to 1.21.1-0.13.8.[10]
- 2.40: 1.21.1-0.13.8 to 1.21.1-0.13.9.[11]
- 2.41: 1.21.1-0.13.9 to 1.21.1-0.13.10.[12]
- 2.43: 1.21.1-0.13.10 to 1.21.1-0.13.11.[13]
- 2.47: 1.21.1-0.13.11 to 1.21.1-0.13.14.[14]
- 3.0: 1.21.1-0.13.14 to 1.21.1-0.13.15.[15]
- 4.0: 1.21.1-0.13.15 to 1.21.1-0.14.0, the move to a new minor version line.[16]
- 4.11: 1.21.1-0.16.0 to 1.21.1-0.16.1, which is the version 4.14 still ships.[1][17]
Between 4.0 (0.14.0) and 4.11 (which started from 0.16.0), the mod moved up at least once more. The changelogs I have don't show which pack release made that jump.[16][17]
Unverified What each Utilitarian update actually changed (new items, fixes, recipe or balance tweaks) is unconfirmed. No changelogs for the shipped jars are stored, so check the mod's own release notes if you need details.
