What is Ars Elemental?

2 parts

This pack includes Ars Elemental 0.7.5.0.1. The quest book is the only place the sources describe what it adds, and there it shows up as four elemental armor sets.[1][2]

Where it sits in the quest book

Ars Elemental has no chapter of its own. Its outfits are in the "Basic Armor" chapter, which has 69 quests. Each outfit quest asks you to hold the full set: hat, robes, leggings and boots.[2]

The quest text for these four is short. It just calls them Ars Elemental Fire, Water, Earth and Air Armor.[2]

What's around them

The same chapter holds other magic-themed armor. The Ars Nouveau outfits are "Arcanist Outfit" quest, "Battlemages Outfit" quest (described as the diamond version) and "Sorceror's Outfit" quest (described as the gold version). The chapter also has Arcanist Gear quests such as "Allthemodium Arcanist Gear" quest, which is Allthemodium armor with buffs to Ars Nouveau spells.[2]

The rest of the chapter covers vanilla, Mekanism, Mystical Agriculture and other armor, plus armor trims. 19 of its 69 quests aren't covered here, so check the quest book itself for them.[2]

How do you get started with Ars Elemental?

5 parts

Ars Elemental adds elemental gear on top of Ars Nouveau, and its recipes lean on Ars Nouveau crafting stations. This page walks through Air as the worked example, because those are the recipes shown in full in the pack's recipe list. The Fire, Water and Earth outfits exist too, but their recipes aren't shown in the sources here.[3][4]

Start with a Mark of Mastery

Make Mark of Mastery first. It's crafted at the enchanting apparatus, and one craft gives you 5 of them. You need one for the Air focus upgrade and for the armor upgrades below. The mod's own advancement for it says to combine the essences with the tribute.[3][4]

Build a focus

Next, make a Lesser Focus of Air. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default, so follow the block below and not older guides. It's made by imbuement.[3]

Then spend one of your Marks to upgrade it into a Focus of Air, which is an enchanting apparatus recipe.[3]

Upgrade into an elemental outfit

The armor pieces aren't made in a normal crafting grid. They use a dedicated armor upgrade recipe that also consumes a Mark of Mastery. In this pack, the recipes for Aethermancer's Hat and Aethermancer's Boots are marked as changed by the pack, so don't trust the mod's default recipe.[3]

The air set absorbs some air-related damage and converts it into mana, and it greatly reduces fall damage. Hold the set-info key on a piece in game to read more.[4]

The quest book covers this gear in the Basic Armor chapter, which also holds the Ars Nouveau outfits. There you'll find the Aethermancer Outfit ("Aethermancer Outfit" quest), Geomancer Outfit ("Geomancer Outfit" quest), Aquamancer Outfit ("Aquamancer Outfit" quest) and Pyromancer Outfit ("Pyromancer Outfit" quest).[2]

Get a place to keep your trinkets

The Trinkets Pouch is a shaped crafting recipe, so you make it in a crafting grid rather than at an Ars Nouveau station.[3]

Later you can upgrade it into the Spellcaster Bag. The pack changed that recipe too.[3]

Optional: Flashing Archwood

Several rituals, such as Repulsion and Detection, use Flashing Archwood Log. To start a tree you need a Flashing Archwood Sapling. The pack adds a sieve route for it, using a diamond mesh on moss blocks, and it also changed the Farming for Blockheads market entry.[3]

How does Ars Elemental work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

In the sources available here, Ars Elemental's mechanics come down to crafting stations, rituals, familiars, armor sets and spell glyphs. None of them describes machines with power, fluid or item handling. This section covers what the sources do explain.[5][6]

Where things get crafted

Most of the mod's special items are made at stations from Ars Nouveau. The Air Bangle and the Focus of Air come from the enchanting apparatus. The Acceleration Prism Lens and the Air Infused Turret come from imbuement. Simpler items like the Trinkets Pouch use ordinary crafting.[6]

Armor upgrades

The Aethermancer's armor pieces use their own upgrade recipe type, and the pack has changed those recipes. That covers the Aethermancer's Hat, Aethermancer's Robes, Aethermancer's Leggings and Aethermancer's Boots. The Slipstream Current Elevator recipe is also changed by the pack. Use the recipe blocks below rather than the mod's default recipes.[6]

Each elemental armor set has a set bonus, and the in-game tooltip shows it when you hold the set-info key. The air set absorbs some air-related damage and converts it into mana, and it highly reduces fall damage. The water set also converts damage into mana and refills your air if you're about to drown. The earth set gives food deep underground if you're about to starve. The fire set instantly clears fire.[5]

Rituals

The mod adds extra ritual tablets, such as Conjure Island: Archwood Forest. This one creates an island of grass and dirt in a circle around the ritual and converts the area to an Archwood Forest. The island has a radius of 7 blocks. Each Source Gem you augment the ritual with adds 1 to the radius. You also need to provide Source nearby while the blocks generate. Augmenting with an Elemental Archfruit makes it convert to a thematic forest instead.[5][6]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: ars_elemental:ritual_archwood_forest

The tablet is crafted from essences and any archwood log.

Familiars

Familiars are obtained by performing the Ritual of Binding near the matching creature. A Flarecannon Familiar increases the damage of Fire spells by 2 and reduces projectile-based spell costs by 20%. You can feed it a Magma Cream for a short Fire Resistance buff.[5]

A Siren Familiar increases the damage of Water spells by 2. It also gives the summoner Dolphin Grace II while in water.[5]

Enchantments and threads

  • Mirror Shield can only go on the Enchanter's Shield. It gives a 25% chance per level of reflecting a spell projectile while you block.[5]
  • Soulbound stops the enchanted item from being lost on death.[5]
  • The Shock thread makes damaging effects shock the target for a short duration before the effect resolves, and it inflicts Static Charged at tier 3.[5]
  • The Spore thread makes damaging effects poison the target or make it hungry for a short duration before the effect resolves.[5]
  • The Summon thread reduces Summon Sickness by 10% for each tier. From tier 2 it also slightly increases damage dealt by summoned creatures.[5]

Spell glyph quirks

  • Homing projectiles seek the nearest entity and act like a classic projectile when there is no valid target. Players are only targeted if you augment the glyph with Sensitive.[5]
  • Arc projectiles are affected by gravity, and each Pierce applied makes them bounce once when they hit the ground.[5]
  • Life Link shares damage you take with the target, and healing the target receives is shared with you. Sensitive reverses the direction, and Cut ends the link on both sides.[5]
  • Charm makes enemies fight for you as a temporary ally, with tamable mobs being tamed and wild animals falling in love. Each Amplify and damage dealt raises the success chance, and stronger mobs resist more.[5]
Tip: Levitating a mob takes an air focus. Wear one and cast a spell with Launch plus Extend Time.[5]

How do you progress through Ars Elemental?

6 parts

Ars Elemental here is not a tier ladder with a chapter of its own. In the pack's quest book, its four elemental outfits sit in the Basic Armor chapter, next to the Ars Nouveau outfits and the other armor sets. Each outfit quest asks for a full set of four pieces: "Pyromancer Outfit" quest (fire), "Aquamancer Outfit" quest (water), "Geomancer Outfit" quest (earth) and "Aethermancer Outfit" quest (air).[2]

Everything else in this section comes from the pack's recipes, so I'll walk you through the order things depend on each other.[3]

Tier 1: Mark of Mastery

The Mark of Mastery is the key item of the mod. It is the only Ars Elemental item used across the 16 armor upgrade recipes, and the greater foci use it too. One craft at the Enchanting Apparatus gives you 5 of them. Its recipe is the mod's default, not a pack change.[3]

Tier 2: Foci and turrets

Tier 3: Elemental armor

The armor comes from the mod's armor upgrade recipes, which also use the Mark of Mastery. There are 16 of them in the pack. The two I can show you, Aethermancer's Hat and Aethermancer's Boots, are both changed by the pack.[3]

The pack also changed the recipes for the Spellcaster Bag, Enchanter's Horn, Spell Mirror and Slipstream Current Elevator. The Trinkets Pouch and Magmatic Current Elevator keep the mod's recipes.[3]

Glyphs, lenses and rituals

The mod adds 19 glyph recipes. Only Glyph Spike is shown as changed by the pack. The rest of the ones I can see, such as Glyph Discharge and Glyph Phantom Grasp, use the mod's recipes.[3]

Prism lenses such as the Arc Prism Lens and Homing Prism Lens, the Advanced Spell Prism, and rituals such as Repulsion and Zapping all keep the mod's own recipes in this pack.[3]

Getting Flashing Archwood

The pack gives you extra routes to the Flashing Archwood Sapling: two Ex Deorum sieve recipes that use moss blocks with a golden or diamond mesh, and a changed Farming for Blockheads market recipe. The mod's own shapeless recipe is still there too. The pack also added the Flashpine recipe, and Create cutting recipes for stripping the archwood.[3]

How does Ars Elemental work with other mods?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 guide

Most of Ars Elemental's crafting in this pack runs through Ars Nouveau. Its recipes use Ars Nouveau's imbuement, enchanting apparatus and glyph crafting, and they call for Ars Nouveau essences, glyphs, scrolls and turrets. The pack also adds a sieve route that ties the mod to Ex Deorum, and plenty of vanilla items show up as ingredients.[7]

Elemental armor builds on Ars Nouveau armor

The Pyromancer, Aquamancer, Geomancer and Aethermancer armor sets are upgrades of Ars Nouveau's magic armor pieces. They use the armor upgrade recipe type, and the pack changed all of those recipes from the mod's defaults. Each piece needs Mark of Mastery, which is made at the enchanting apparatus from Ars Nouveau essences and a Wilden Tribute.[7]

The "basic_armor" quest chapter has a quest for each element, and each asks for the full set of hat, robes, leggings and boots. They are "Pyromancer Outfit" quest for fire, "Aquamancer Outfit" quest for water, "Geomancer Outfit" quest for earth and "Aethermancer Outfit" quest for air.[8]

Getting the Flashing Archwood Sapling

Flashing Archwood Sapling links Ars Elemental to Ars Nouveau and to Ex Deorum. The mod has its own crafting route using Ars Nouveau saplings, and the pack added a sieve route with an Ex Deorum mesh. Sieve recipes exist for Iron Mesh, Golden Mesh, Diamond Mesh and Netherite Mesh. Both routes are shown below.[7]

Other recipes the pack changed

Besides the armor, the pack changed several other Ars Elemental recipes, so they may not match the mod's defaults. Check them in the recipe viewer rather than trusting older guides:[7]

The prism lenses are made with Ars Nouveau's imbuement or enchanting apparatus, and several are tied to Ars Nouveau glyphs such as Glyph Accelerate, Glyph Decelerate and Glyph Pierce. The air, earth and fire turrets are upgrades of Ars Nouveau's Enchanted Spell Turret, and Manipulation Infused Turret builds on the Focus of Block Shaping. Here is one lens and one turret as the pack has them:[7]

Recipe id: ars_elemental:air_turret

Ars Elemental's own glyphs are crafted from Ars Nouveau items such as essences and the allow and deny scrolls, plus vanilla items. The summon filter glyphs, for example, use a Bone, and the undead filters use Rotten Flesh.[7]

Some rituals tie into Ars Nouveau too. Forestation - Archwood builds on Ars Nouveau's Forestation, and the Flashing Archwood Log gives you another recipe for Ars Nouveau's Flight. Both recipes are below.[7]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ars Elemental?

Ars Elemental shows up in one quest chapter of the pack: "Basic Armor", a chapter of 69 quests about armor sets, armor trims and the ingots and gems behind them. Four of those quests belong to this mod, one for each element.[2]

Each quest asks for a full four-piece set: hat, robes, leggings and boots. Here they are:[2]

The quest text is short for all four. It only names the element and doesn't explain how to craft the pieces or what they do, so don't expect a walkthrough from the quest book itself.[2]

The sources I have don't show the order these four quests unlock in or how they connect to each other, so I can't tell you which one the book expects first.[2]
