What is Ars Elemental?

2 parts

The pack includes Ars Elemental version 0.7.6.1. It builds on Ars Nouveau magic with extra spell glyphs, foci, bangles, rituals and a few other items.[1][2]

Where it sits in the quest book

Ars Elemental has no chapter of its own. Its quests live inside the Ars Nouveau chapter, mixed in with the Ars Nouveau quests they follow on from.[2]

Worth knowing early

ars_elemental:anima_essence is accepted by "Ars Essence" quest, alongside the Ars Nouveau essences. That quest comes after Imbuement Chamber and Source Gems, and its text calls essence extremely important for virtually every spell and enchanting apparatus recipe.[2]

The quest text for the bangles says they are magical equipment that gives passive abilities and can boost spell damage. The foci quest says foci boost magic of a particular type in many ways.[2]

Tip: The Mark of Mastery is used to make much of the advanced items from Ars Elemental, so it's a good one to grab once you reach the Enchanting Apparatus.[2]

Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown in the sources here. Check the pack's quest book to see how the ATM Star path is marked.

How do you get started with Ars Elemental?

2 parts

In this pack, the quest book covers Ars Elemental inside its Ars Nouveau chapter, and that gives you a clear order to work in. Here is how I'd go through it.[2]

The first things to make

  1. Collect your essences. The quest "Ars Essence" quest calls essence extremely important: you need it for virtually every spell and enchanting apparatus recipe. ars_elemental:anima_essence from this mod counts for that quest alongside the Ars Nouveau essences.[2]
  2. Unlock some early glyphs. The quest book lists Glyph Conjure Terrain after the Tier 1 Glyphs quest. It places dirt or other terrain blocks, and one Amplify makes it place cobblestone.[2][3]
  3. Make a lesser focus. "Lesser Elemental Foci" quest asks for one of Lesser Focus of Fire, Lesser Focus of Water, Lesser Focus of Air or Lesser Focus of Earth. Foci boost magic of one element, and you can see a spell's type by hovering over its glyph and looking at the top right.[2]
  4. Get a Mark of Mastery. The quest "Mark of Mastery" quest says it is used to make much of the advanced items from Ars Elemental. The mod's advancement text describes it as combining the essences with the tribute.[2][3]
  5. Upgrade to a full focus. "Elemental Foci" quest comes after the Mark of Mastery and lesser foci quests. A full focus is made at the enchanting apparatus from the matching lesser focus plus the mark.[2][4]

The full Focus of Fire is an enchanting apparatus recipe. The Air and Earth foci follow the same pattern.

Bangles and armor

Once you have the enchanting apparatus, "Bangles" quest is worth doing early. The quest describes bangles as baubles that give passive abilities and can boost spell damage. The Fire, Air, Earth and Anima bangles are all crafted from the Enchanter's Bangle. The pack changed the recipe for that base bangle, so follow this one rather than any guide for the mod's defaults.[2][4]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.

The Basic Armor chapter has an outfit for each element: Pyromancer, Aquamancer, Geomancer and Aethermancer. Each piece is made with an armor upgrade recipe. For example, the Pyromancer set empowers Fire glyphs, and the full set converts some incoming fire damage into mana and instantly clears fire.[3][4][5]

Recipe id: ars_elemental:fire_hat

The Pyromancer's Hat is an armor upgrade recipe. The other pieces and elements use the same kind of recipe.

Tip: The Mark of Mastery goes into the full foci and the elemental armor sets, so make it before you plan anything bigger. The elemental turrets come later in the quest book, after the Enchanted Spell Turret and Elemental Foci quests, and the Fire turret recipe uses a Focus of Fire.[2][4]

How does Ars Elemental work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.12 guide

In this pack, the sources show Ars Elemental working through Ars Nouveau's crafting stations, spell glyphs, familiars and rituals. This section covers the mechanics those sources explain.[6][7]

Unverified There is no config file for this mod in the pack and the sources here do not show any tunable values, so none are listed in this section.

Where things get crafted

Ars Elemental items use several crafting methods: the normal crafting grid, Ars Nouveau's imbuement, Ars Nouveau's enchanting apparatus, or a dedicated armor upgrade recipe type.[7]

Marks, foci and armor

The in-game advancement for the Mark of Mastery says to combine the essences with the tribute. The Mark is then used in the air focus upgrade and in every Aethermancer's armor upgrade.[6][7]

Foci come in lesser and major grades. You first acquire a lesser focus, such as the Lesser Focus of Air, then upgrade it to the major focus. For air, that upgrade is an enchanting apparatus recipe.[6][7]

Focus of AirMod recipe

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_elemental:air_focus

Each elemental armor set absorbs some damage of its element and converts it into mana. The air set also greatly reduces fall damage. The aqua set refills your air if you're about to drown. The earth set gives food deep underground if you're about to starve. The fire set instantly clears fire.[6]

Wearing a focus also changes some spells. Launch with Extend Time while you wear an air focus makes a mob levitate. Summon Steed gives you a dolphin with a water focus, a skeleton horse with a necromancy focus, or a strider with a fire focus.[6]

Familiars

You get a familiar by performing the Ritual of Binding near the matching creature. Each one boosts a spell school and can be fed for a short buff.[6]

  • Flarecannon: Fire spell damage goes up by 2 and projectile-based spells cost 20% less. Feed it a Magma Cream for a short Fire Resistance buff.[6]
  • Flashjack: Lightning spell damage goes up by 2 and movement-based spells cost 20% less. Feed it a Flashpine for a short Speed and Night Vision buff.[6]
  • Siren: Water spell damage goes up by 2, and you get Dolphin Grace II while in water.[6]

Glyph behavior worth knowing

Ars Elemental adds spell glyphs that change how a spell travels or resolves. These are the ones the sources describe most clearly.[6]

  • Arc projectile: it is affected by gravity, and every Pierce you apply makes it bounce once when it hits the ground.[6]
  • Homing projectile: it seeks the nearest entity and acts like a classic projectile if there is no valid target. It only targets players if augmented with Sensitive.[6]
  • Propagators: the arc and homing propagators convert the rest of the spell into that projectile type and fire it from where the spell lands.[6]
  • Filters: the aerial, aquatic, fiery, insect, summon and undead filters stop the spell from resolving depending on the target. Each also has a "not" version that works the opposite way.[6]
  • Life Link: damage you take is shared with the target and healing of the target is shared with you. Sensitive reverses the link's direction and Cut severs it.[6]
  • Conjure Terrain: one Amplify places cobblestone and two place cobbled deepslate. Following it with Conjure Water places mud, and following it with Crush places sand.[6]

Archwood and rituals

The Flashing Archwood tree is Ars Elemental's own archwood type. Its sapling is a shapeless recipe that combines the Cascading, Flourishing, Vexing and Blazing Archwood Saplings with Air Essence. The tree gives the Flashing Archwood Log, which several ritual recipes use.[7]

The pack has crafting recipes for these ritual items: Attraction, Detection, Repulsion, Fast Squirrels, Zapping, Conjure Island: Archwood Forest and Forestation - Archwood.[7]

Perks and enchantments

  • Shock thread: damaging effects shock the target for a short time before the effect resolves, and it inflicts Static Charged at tier 3.[6]
  • Spore thread: damaging effects poison the target or make it hungry for a short time before the effect resolves.[6]
  • Summon thread: it reduces Summon Sickness by 10% per tier. From tier 2 it also slightly increases the damage dealt by summoned creatures.[6]
  • Mirror Shield: this enchantment only goes on the Enchanter's Shield and gives a 25% chance per level to reflect a spell projectile while you block.[6]
  • Soulbound: it keeps the enchanted item from being lost on death.[6]

How do you progress through Ars Elemental?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Ars Elemental builds on Ars Nouveau in this pack, and its quests sit inside the Ars Nouveau chapter. The order below follows the quest dependencies, starting from essence and the Mark of Mastery.[8]

Step 1: Essence and the Mark of Mastery

The "Ars Essence" quest quest reminds you that essence is needed for virtually every spell and enchanting apparatus recipe. It also accepts the Anima essence from this mod. The "Mark of Mastery" quest quest comes right after the Imbuement Chamber, and it says Mark of Mastery is used to make much of the advanced Ars Elemental gear. The Elemental Foci quest comes after it in the quest book.[8]

Step 2: Glyphs by tier

The mod's glyph quests hang off the Ars Nouveau Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 Glyph quests. At Tier 1 you get Glyph Spark and Glyph Conjure Terrain. Tier 2 covers Glyph Arc Projectile, Glyph Propagator Arc, Glyph Bubble Shield, Glyph Watery Grave, Glyph Discharge, Glyph Phantom Grasp, Glyph Envenom, Glyph Poison Spores, Glyph Charm and Glyph Spike. Tier 3 has Glyph Homing Projectile, Glyph Propagator Homing, Glyph Conflagrate and Glyph Life Link.[8]

The pack changed the Spike glyph recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. This is the in-pack version:[9]

Glyph SpikeChanged by the pack

This recipe is changed by the pack.

There is also a separate set of filter glyphs, such as Glyph Fiery Filter, Glyph Undead Filter and Glyph Not Summon Filter. Each filter has a "not" version, and the ones in the recipe list are crafted with an Item Scroll plus one extra item.[8][9]

Step 3: Foci

The "Lesser Elemental Foci" quest quest comes after the Enchanting Apparatus. It explains that foci boost magic of one type, and you can see a spell's type by hovering over the glyph and checking the top right. The pack changed all four lesser focus recipes (fire, water, air and earth), which are imbuement recipes.[8][9]

Lesser Focus of FireChanged by the pack

Imbuement (ars_nouveau)

This recipe is changed by the pack, and the water, air and earth versions are changed too.

"Elemental Foci" quest is the upgrade step. It comes after Mark of Mastery and the lesser foci, and it asks for Focus of Fire, Focus of Water, Focus of Air or Focus of Earth. The fire, air and earth versions are enchanting apparatus recipes.[8][9]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_elemental:fire_focus

"Other Foci" quest covers the support foci and includes Focus of Necromancy.[8]

Step 4: Armor, bangles and turrets

The Basic Armor chapter has one outfit quest per element: "Pyromancer Outfit" quest, "Aquamancer Outfit" quest, "Aethermancer Outfit" quest and "Geomancer Outfit" quest. Each one asks for the hat, robes, leggings and boots. Every set boosts glyphs of its element and reduces damage from that element. With the full set worn, some of that incoming damage is converted into mana. The Pyromancer set gives higher fire resistance when the full set is worn.[10]

Each armor piece is made with an armor upgrade recipe that uses the Mark of Mastery. Here is the Pyromancer's Hat as an example:[9]

Armor Upgrade (sauce)

Recipe id: ars_elemental:fire_hat

The "Bangles" quest quest covers bangles, which are baubles that grant passive abilities and can boost spell damage. Everything starts from Enchanter's Bangle, whose recipe the pack changed. The fire, air, earth and anima bangles in the recipe list are then made from that base at the enchanting apparatus.[8][9]

"Elemental Turrets" quest comes after the Enchanted Spell Turret and Elemental Foci quests. The elemental turrets fire super-charged spells when the spell matches their element, and the quest notes they work best on defense. The fire, air and earth turrets in the recipe list are imbuement recipes built on an Enchanted Spell Turret.[8][9]

How does Ars Elemental work with other mods?

4 parts

Most of the Ars Elemental recipes in this pack are built from Ars Nouveau items. The pack also adds a recipe that ties it to Ex Deorum, and it changes a handful of the mod's own recipes. Here's how the pieces connect.[4]

Ars Nouveau: essences and crafting stations

Ars Nouveau essences are the glue. The pack's quest says essence is needed for virtually every spell and enchanting apparatus recipe, and its task list also accepts ars_elemental:anima_essence alongside the Ars Nouveau essences. Elemental crafting runs through two Ars Nouveau stations: the enchanting apparatus and the imbuement chamber. See the quest "Ars Essence" quest.[2][4]

Recipe id: ars_elemental:air_turret

Elemental turrets are imbued from the Ars Nouveau turret.

The Trinkets Pouch takes Ars Nouveau's Magebloom Fiber. The Spellcaster Bag then upgrades it.

Elemental armor builds on Ars Nouveau armor

You don't craft the elemental armor from scratch. Each piece is an armor upgrade of an Ars Nouveau piece, and every upgrade uses a Mark of Mastery. The Ars Nouveau set you start from decides the elemental set you get. Arcanist's gear becomes the -mancer sets, such as Aethermancer's Hat. Battlemage's gear becomes the -guard sets, such as Thunderguard's Helmet. Sorceror's gear becomes sets like Olympian's Hood. These are the mod's own recipes, not pack changes.[4]

Armor Upgrade (sauce)

Recipe id: ars_elemental:air_hat

The same pattern applies to the fire, water and earth sets.

The pack has a quest for the Mark of Mastery, which it describes as used to make much of the advanced items from Ars Elemental. It's "Mark of Mastery" quest.[2]

Recipes the pack changed

The pack has changed several Ars Elemental recipes, so don't rely on the mod's defaults for these: Advanced Spell Prism, Enchanter's Bangle, Spellcaster Bag, Slipstream Current Elevator and Flashjack Charm. The recipe blocks below show the in-pack versions of the prism and the bangle.[4]

Ex Deorum: sieving for saplings

The pack adds a link to Ex Deorum. In the Ex Deorum sieve, sifting a moss block with an iron, golden, diamond or netherite mesh can give you a Flashing Archwood Sapling. That's a pack-added route, and it works with every one of those meshes.[4]

The golden, diamond and netherite meshes work the same way.

If you'd rather craft it, the mod has its own shapeless recipe built from Ars Nouveau archwood saplings and air essence.[4]

This is the mod's own recipe, not a pack change.

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Ars Elemental?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Ars Elemental shows up in two quest chapters in the pack. Most of it sits in the Ars Nouveau chapter, where the quests mostly ask you to obtain an item. The four elemental armor sets are in the Basic Armor chapter.[8][10]

Ars Nouveau chapter: materials

  1. "Ars Essence" quest comes after the Imbuement Chamber and Source Gems quests. You can finish it with any one of the listed essences, including Anima Essence from Ars Elemental. The quest says essence is needed for virtually every spell and enchanting apparatus recipe.[8]
  2. "Mark of Mastery" quest comes after the Imbuement Chamber quest and asks for Mark of Mastery. The quest says it is used to make much of the advanced Ars Elemental items.[8]

Ars Nouveau chapter: glyphs

The glyph quests hang off the pack's glyph tier quests. Each one just asks you to get the glyph.[8]

Ars Nouveau chapter: foci, bangles and turrets

  1. "Lesser Elemental Foci" quest comes after the Enchanting Apparatus quest. Any one of the four lesser foci completes it, for example Lesser Focus of Fire or Lesser Focus of Water. The quest notes you can see a spell's type by hovering over its glyph and looking at the top right.[8]
  2. "Elemental Foci" quest comes after both Mark of Mastery and Lesser Elemental Foci. It accepts Focus of Fire, Focus of Water, Focus of Air or Focus of Earth, and also the Shaper's Focus from Ars Nouveau. The quest calls these the more enhanced and powerful versions of foci.[8]
  3. "Other Foci" quest comes after the Enchanting Apparatus quest. You need the Summon Focus from Ars Nouveau or Focus of Necromancy.[8]
  4. "Bangles" quest also comes after the Enchanting Apparatus quest. Any of the base, fire, water, air, earth, summon or anima bangles counts, for example Enchanter's Bangle or Anima Bangle.[8]
  5. "Elemental Turrets" quest comes after the Enchanted Spell Turret and Elemental Foci quests. Any one of Fire Infused Turret, Water Infused Turret, Air Infused Turret, Earth Infused Turret or Manipulation Infused Turret completes it. The quest says they shoot super-charged spells when the spell is aligned with their element, and that they work best on defense.[8]

Ars Nouveau chapter: rituals

Seven ritual quests all come after the Ritual Brazier quest, so you can take them in any order: a quest in "Ars Nouveau" (Fast Squirrels), a quest in "Ars Nouveau" (Attraction), a quest in "Ars Nouveau" (Zapping), a quest in "Ars Nouveau" (Repulsion), a quest in "Ars Nouveau" (Detection), a quest in "Ars Nouveau" (Forestation - Archwood) and a quest in "Ars Nouveau" (Conjure Island: Archwood Forest).[8]

Ars Nouveau chapter: charms and prisms

Basic Armor chapter

This chapter has one quest per elemental armor set. Each one asks for the hat, robes, leggings and boots of that element. The sources don't show any prerequisite quests for these, so there is no fixed order.[10]
