What is Supplementaries?

1 part

Supplementaries is a highly configurable mod that adds content to fill gaps in vanilla Minecraft. Its project page lists jars, signposts, faucets, weather vanes, spring launchers, sconces, planters, lights, decoration and automation. It also needs Moonlight Library to run.[1]

This pack ships Supplementaries 1.21.1-3.8.5 for NeoForge. It has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[2]

Where the quest book puts it

The mod has no chapter of its own. It shows up in the Industrial Foregoing chapter, in the quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". That quest comes right after "Industrial Foregoing" quest, the Tier 1 starter quest, and sits alongside a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" and "Item \& Fluid Transport" quest.[3]

The quest is about rotating Industrial Foregoing machines, which most wrenches can't do. It accepts several wrenches from different mods, and the Wrench is one of them. The quest text says the wrenches were tested mainly on the Laser Drill, and some might not work on other machines.[3]

Supplementaries is not on the ATM Star quest path. For the rest of that chapter, including the quests that follow this one, check the quest book itself.[3]

How do you get started with Supplementaries?

2 parts

Supplementaries is a highly configurable mod that fills gaps in vanilla, and the pack changes the recipes for its items. Everything below shows the pack's own recipes, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[1][4]

Make a Wrench first

Start with the Wrench. The mod has an advancement for using one to rotate a block. The pack changes its recipe, so here is the exact one:[4][5]

It's also useful beyond Supplementaries. The Industrial Foregoing quest chapter has a quest, a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", about wrenches that can rotate Industrial Foregoing machines, and the Supplementaries Wrench is one of the accepted items. The quest text says most wrenches can't rotate those machines. Its author tested mainly on the Laser Drill, so some wrenches might not work on other machines.[3]

Then the Altimeter

The Altimeter is another item whose recipe the pack changes. Here is the in-pack version:[4]

How does Supplementaries work?

7 parts

Here's the honest picture, since Supplementaries is a big mod: the material I can verify for this pack covers display and behavior settings, a few effects and enchantments, and recipes. It doesn't cover step-by-step machine or automation setups. The project page does list jars, signposts, faucets, weather vanes, spring launchers, sconces, planters, lights, decoration and automation among the mod's content.[1]

Wind vanes and redstone power

The wind vane swings according to the redstone power it receives. The animation is a sum of a first and a second sine wave. The first has a maximum pitch of 30 and a base period of 450 ticks at 0 power. The second has a period of 150, and the config notes it should stay at a third of the first period for a symmetric animation. These are the same values as the mod defaults.[6]

Power changes the swing frequency through a multiplier: max(1, redstone power times power scaling). The pack keeps blocks.wind_vane.power_scaling at 3. The config comment says a value of 2 means the vane spins twice as fast per power level, and that raising it makes weather changes easier to read. These are client-side visual settings, so they change how the vane looks, not how it behaves.[6]

Rotating blocks

The Wrench is confirmed to rotate a block, and the Turn Table can rotate you. Both have their own advancements. When a block is rotated, particles are shown by default, controlled by blocks.turn_table.turn_particles.[5][6]

Altimeter

The Altimeter (the config calls it the depth meter) has a click action that displays your current depth, enabled in this pack through items.altimeter.click_action. It also has unique textures for the Nether and the End. You can add more dimensions to that list if you also supply a matching texture.[6]

Jars and captured mobs

Mobs captured in jars can be ticked on the client side, which matters mostly for mobs with particles. In this pack the list is the Ice and Fire pixie, the Druidcraft dreadfish and lunar moth, and the Alex's Mobs hummingbird.[6]

Watch out: The config warns that ticking captured mobs client-side can cause issues and side effects, so use extra care before adding mobs to blocks.captured_mobs.tickable_inside_jars.[6]

Pulleys, pedestals and shelves

A continuous-mode pulley clips its topmost moving block against the pulley body, so the block looks like it disappears into or emerges from it. This pack uses the STENCIL mode, which the config describes as a clean clip and the recommended one. OFF lets the block poke through the pulley. DEPTH is a simpler clip that can interact poorly with translucent blocks such as slime, glass and water.[6]

Pedestals spin their displayed item, and blocks.pedestal.speed is set to 2 in this pack, the same as the mod default. Special display types are enabled for items like swords, tridents and end crystals. Item shelves are set so displayed blocks sit touching the shelf, which means they won't be vertically centered.[6]

Slingshot enchantment

The Stasis enchantment lets Slingshot projectiles ignore gravity.[5]

Bellows

The pack has a recipe for the Bellows, and the dump marks it as changed by the pack.[4]

How do you progress through Supplementaries?

2 parts

This section covers where the pack's quests touch Supplementaries and how the pack has changed its recipes. The quest book only mentions the mod once, so there is no quest-by-quest tier path to follow.[3][4]

What the quests say

The only quest that touches this mod is a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" in the Industrial Foregoing chapter. It accepts the Wrench as one of several valid wrenches. The others come from Ender IO, Immersive Engineering, Just Dire Things and PneumaticCraft.[3]

The quest is about rotating Industrial Foregoing machines, which most wrenches can't do. The wrenches were tested mainly on the Laser Drill, and some might not work with other machines. So the Supplementaries wrench is a side option for that job, not a milestone in a Supplementaries progression.[3]

Recipes in this pack

The recipe dump flags every Supplementaries recipe it shows as changed by the pack. That includes the wrench and the altimeter. Don't assume the standard mod recipes apply here. Check the recipe blocks on this page instead.[4]

The building blocks follow a pattern. The pack has recipes for Ash Bricks, Blackstone Tiles and supplementaries:brittlestone_bricks, plus slab, stairs and wall recipes for each. You craft the base block first, then the shaped variants from it.[4]

The decorative colour sets work the same way. You craft a base Awning, then dye it into the coloured awnings. Buntings come from a white bunting plus dye, or directly from coloured wool. Candle holders can be crafted with a coloured candle or by dyeing a plain Candle Holder.[4]

How does Supplementaries work with other mods?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

In this pack, Supplementaries links up with other mods in a few places. The recipes below are all marked as changed by the pack, so they are the pack's own versions and not the mod's defaults.[7]

Farmer's Delight

Industrial Foregoing

The Wrench is one of the tools accepted by the Industrial Foregoing quest a quest in "Industrial Foregoing". The quest explains that most wrenches can't rotate Industrial Foregoing machines, so it lists the ones that can. Besides the Supplementaries wrench, the accepted tools come from Ender IO, Immersive Engineering, Just Dire Things and PneumaticCraft.[8]

Tip: The quest author tested these wrenches mainly on the Laser Drill. Some wrenches might not work on other Industrial Foregoing machines, so test yours on the machine you care about.[8]

Which All the Mons quests use Supplementaries?

1 part

Supplementaries shows up in just one quest in this pack, and it's a small one. The quest is a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", in the Industrial Foregoing chapter.[3]

Yeta Wrench

The quest comes right after "Industrial Foregoing" quest, the chapter's opening quest. It sits alongside a quest in "Industrial Foregoing", a quest in "Industrial Foregoing" and "Item \& Fluid Transport" quest, which also unlock after that first quest.[3]

The quest's author explains that most wrenches can't rotate Industrial Foregoing machines. They compiled a list of the wrenches they found that can, and the quest accepts any one of them.[3]

The Wrench is one of the accepted items. The others are the Ender IO Yeta Wrench, the Immersive Engineering hammer, the Just Dire Things Ferricore Wrench and the PneumaticCraft Pneumatic Wrench.[3]

Tip: The quest text says the wrenches were tested mainly on the Laser Drill, so some of them might not work on other machines. Click the task in the quest to see the full list of valid wrenches.[3]

Which Supplementaries config options matter?

5 parts

Supplementaries is very configurable, and this pack ships both a common file (gameplay) and a client file (visuals and UI). Below are the options you're most likely to notice in play, with the values this pack uses.[1][6][9]

Every option shown with a mod default in these files has the same value as that default, so nothing in this list is a pack change that the files can show.[6][9]

Cannon and cannonballs

Jars, cages and sacks

Ropes and pulleys

Ropes are enabled, with horizontal ropes and side attachment on. Turning ropes off would also disable pulleys and buntings, so the pack keeps functional.rope.enabled true. Rope replacement in loot tables is set to NONE.[9]

Pulleys use continuous retraction (redstone.pulley_block.continuous_retraction is true). Connected blocks become moving blocks, and cooperative pulleys (redstone.pulley_block.cooperative_pulleys) let several pulleys share a wide elevator platform. On the client, blocks.pulley.mask_mode is STENCIL.[6][9]

What changed in Supplementaries between versions?

2 parts

All the Mons 1.2.0 ships Supplementaries 1.21.1-3.8.5, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. I don't have pack changelog entries for this mod, so there's nothing to add from that side.[2]

1.21.1 builds

  • 3.8.5 (the version in the pack): fixed some missing textures and improved the cooperative piston code.[2][10]
  • 3.8.0: added the mod's own config screen and more mod compatibility. The bubble blower can also be used by a dispenser now.[11]
  • 3.7.7: fixed the wind vane renderer.[12]
  • 3.6.4: a handful of minor fixes.[13]

1.21 builds

  • 3.5.34: fixed the cannon shooting backwards fix, which hadn't made it into the previous release.[14]
  • 3.5.32: fixed cannons shooting backwards, old cannons failing to load, the cannon shoot animation being broken, cannons not converting from old saves, and a crash with galleons. The changelog noted that cannon boat rotation was still broken at that point.[15]
  • 3.5.26: fixed a crash with quivers. The slot reference registry is synced again, which was its whole purpose.[16]
  • 3.5.17: fixed the multishot slingshot consuming just 1 projectile. Rope arrows shot from multishot crossbows can now be shot more than 1 at a time, and they still consume all the projectiles.[17]
  • 3.5.16: added a rope disable config and improved config descriptions in general, which fixed some items not being disabled properly. Disabling ropes also automatically disables pulleys, buntings, rope arrows, the mineshaft elevator and compat blocks like rope tomatoes and rope chandeliers. Deco blocks compat was updated too.[18]

If you like building with cannons or ropes, the 1.21 fixes above are the ones that changed how they behave. The 1.21.1 releases since then have mostly been polish and fixes, plus the new config screen.[10][11][12][13][15][17][18]
