What is Silent Gear Metalworks?
1 part
Silent Gear Metalworks is the piece that connects Silent Gear to a Foundry. This pack includes version 1.21.1-1.4.6 of it. The mod adds Casts for Silent Gear gear, such as the Sword Cast, Pickaxe Cast, Helmet Cast and Ring Cast.[1][2]
In this pack's quest book, Productive Metalworks changes how you get your Silent Gear items. Instead of using Blueprints, you use Casts and a Foundry.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
The Casts live in the chapter called "Silent Gear", which has 69 quests. It opens with "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest, and the first thing it asks you to get is Fire Clay, to start building the Foundry.[2]
From there the order is: the Foundry Drains, Tanks and Controller quests, then "Building the Foundry" quest, then "Casting Items" quest, and then "Casts" quest. The Casts quest says every Cast is made the same way, by pouring Steel onto an item in a Casting Table.[2]
After the Casts quest, the chapter branches into one quest for each Cast. Many of them are Silent Gear Metalworks items, such as the Katana Cast, Hammer Cast, Tool Rod Cast and Tip Cast. Some Productive Metalworks Casts and several Silent Gear Blueprint quests sit in the same spot.[2]
The Salvager quest also comes after Casts, and the Recrystallizer quest comes after that. Eleven quests in this chapter were not available to me, so check the quest book for the rest.[2]
How do you get started with Silent Gear Metalworks?
2 parts
In this pack you don't make Silent Gear parts from blueprints. You make them from casts, using a Foundry from Productive Metalworks. The quest book's Silent Gear chapter walks you through it, and the in-game tooltip says the same thing: all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry.[2][3]
Step by step
- Start with Fire Clay. The quest "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest asks for Fire Clay and is where the whole chapter begins.[2]
- Get the three core Foundry blocks: the Black Foundry Controller, the Black Foundry Drain and the Black Foundry Tank. The Controller is the heart of the Foundry and you need at least 1. The Drain is how you get liquid metal out. Tanks take liquids, mostly fuel, and lava is described as one of the only ways to fuel the Foundry.[2]
- Build the Foundry ("Building the Foundry" quest). Liquid Heating Coils form the floor, and Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks make the walls. It needs 4 walls and a floor, and the corners can stay empty. It can be as small as 1x1 inside, but a bigger Foundry holds more. You'll know it works when the Controller lights up like a Furnace and the coils turn orange.[2]
- Set up your pouring station ("Casting Items" quest). Put a Foundry Tap on the Drain, then place a Casting Table or Casting Basin under the Tap. Right-click the Tap to pour. The Basin turns about 900mB of liquid metal into a full metal block, and the Table is what you need for casts.[2]
- Make steel. The Casts quest says you can melt down any steel items or ingots, or alloy 9 iron with 10 coal. Alloying happens when the Foundry is heated and the right amounts of different liquid metals are inside it.[2]
- Pour steel onto an item in the Casting Table to make a cast. The quest says all casts are made this way. The Casts quest is followed by one quest per cast, such as Sword Cast, which the book describes as the way to make the basic sword.[2]
Cast recipes in this pack
The cast recipes are item casting recipes that this pack has changed from the mod's defaults. Here are two examples: the Axe Cast and the Dagger Cast.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Dagger Blade
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/dagger_cast
After the Casts quest, the book branches into one quest per cast, from the Pickaxe Cast and Shovel Cast to armour casts like the Helmet Cast. Pick the gear you want first and make that cast.[2]
How does Silent Gear Metalworks work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
The sources show no machines of Silent Gear Metalworks' own. The mod adds molten fluids, buckets of those fluids and cast items for Silent Gear parts, and the processing happens in Productive Metalworks. The mod's own tooltip says all metal and gem tool parts require casting in a foundry from Productive Metalworks.[3]
Melting
The mod has molten fluids for metals like Molten Azure Silver and Molten Blaze Gold, plus a long list of gems. Melting recipes turn items into these fluids. In the pack there are 96 melting recipes that end in a fluid from this mod, covering 28 different results.[3][5]
Dusts of azure silver, azure electrum and blaze gold each melt into 90 of their molten fluid. Productive Bees combs can be melted too: an Uru metal comb gives 10 Molten Uru Metal and a comb block gives 40.[5]
Alloying
Some fluids are alloys made from other molten fluids. The pack changed these recipes: Molten Azure Electrum, Molten Blaze Gold and Molten Uru Metal are all alloyed. Uru metal is the demanding one, so check the recipe below for the exact mix.[5]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

Casting basics
Molten Uru metal follows a fixed scale in this pack. An ingot costs 90 of the fluid, a nugget costs 10 and a storage block costs 810. Ingots and blocks also convert back and forth in the crafting grid, with 9 ingots making a block.[5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal

Block Casting (productivemetalworks)
- 810× any molten uru metal

Casting Silent Gear parts
This is where the mod gets interesting. In the pack's Uru metal part recipes, the item you put in is a Silent Gear part made from silent unobtainium plates. That part is consumed, and you get the same kind of part made from Uru metal ingots instead.[6][7]
The fluid cost grows with how many material items the part is made of, in steps of 90 molten Uru metal each. An arrow head costs 90, fishing reel and hook costs 180, axe head costs 270, boot plates cost 360 and chestplate plates cost 720. Bow limbs, crossbow limbs and bracelet bands each cost 270.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Silent Unobtainium Plate
- 270× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/axe_head
The axe head costs 270 of molten Uru metal.
Cast items
The mod also adds cast items such as Arrow Cast, Axe Cast and Boots Cast. In the pack these are made by casting the matching Silent Gear part with 360 of molten steel.[3][5]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Arrow Heads
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/arrow_cast
Uru Metal Bee
The Uru Metal Bee spawn egg is also made by casting. A spirited crystal bee spawn egg is consumed along with 810 molten Uru metal and becomes an Uru metal bee spawn egg. The recipe only applies when both bees exist in the pack.[3][14]
How do you progress through Silent Gear Metalworks?
4 parts
In this pack, Silent Gear progression runs through Productive Metalworks. The quest book swaps blueprints for casts and a foundry, so your first goal is a working foundry, then casts, then the three material tiers. It all lives in the "Silent Gear" quest chapter.[2]
Step by step through the quests
- Start with "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest, which asks for Fire Clay. It explains that casts and a foundry now replace blueprints.[2]
- Three quests unlock after it: "Foundry Controller" quest (the controller), "Foundry Tanks" quest (tanks) and "Foundry Drains" quest (drains).[2]
- "Building the Foundry" quest comes after all four of those. It adds liquid heating coils for the floor, plus foundry windows or fire bricks for the walls. The foundry needs 4 walls and a floor, and you know it works when the controller lights up like a furnace and the coils turn orange.[2]
- "Casting Items" quest gives you the casting table, casting basin and foundry tap.[2]
- "Casts" quest explains that every cast is made by pouring steel onto an item on a casting table. You get steel by melting steel items or ingots, or by alloying 9 iron to 10 coal.[2]
- After Casts, the book fans out into one quest per cast, like a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear". "Salvager" quest also unlocks here, and the Recrystallizer and Material Grader come after it.[2]
The pack changed the cast recipes. Each one is cast from the matching Silent Gear part plus molten steel.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Axe Head
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/axe_cast
Axe Cast as an example. The other casts follow the same pattern.
The three tiers
Once you reach a quest in "Silent Gear", the book introduces the tiers. The grader gives a material a grade, and the best grade is "MAX". Three grader catalyst quests follow: "Tier 1 Grader Catalyst" quest, "Tier 2 Grader Catalyst" quest and "Tier 3 Grader Catalyst" quest. a quest in "Silent Gear" also follows the grader.[2]
"Starlight Charger" quest comes after the Alloy Forge. It is a 7x7 structure with a pillar in each corner, each topped with a cap. It only charges at night and needs a catalyst per material. Each tier has one cap block and one catalyst:[2]
- Tier 1: cap in "Tier 1 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest, catalyst in "Tier 1 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest.[2]
- Tier 2: cap in "Tier 2 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest, catalyst in "Tier 2 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest.[2]
- Tier 3: cap in "Tier 3 Starlight Charger Pillar Cap" quest, catalyst in "Tier 3 Starlight Charger Catalyst" quest.[2]
Making the tier metals in the foundry
The pack has foundry alloying recipes for each tier metal, and the dump marks all of them as changed by the pack. The Alloy Forge quest says the Alloy Forge is the only way to get Tyrian Steel. The pack also has a foundry recipe for it, shown below.[2][4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
- 200× any molten blaze
- 90× any molten gold
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_blaze_gold
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)

- 90× any molten azure electrum
- 90× any molten crimson steel
- 100× any molten shulker shell
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/molten_tyrian_steel
If you already have the dusts, you can melt them straight into the molten metal instead. Crimson steel, azure electrum, azure silver, blaze gold, crimson iron and tyrian steel dusts all have melting recipes, and so do many gems, such as alexandrite and garnet.[4]
Item Melting (productivemetalworks)
- any crimson steel dust
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:melting/dusts/crimson_steel
One of the dust melting recipes.
Beyond the tiers: Uru Metal
The pack adds a custom alloy for Molten Uru Metal. Its recipe takes molten Tyrian Steel, the metal whose block is the tier 3 pillar cap in the quest book, so it sits above the tiers.[2][4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
You can cast the molten metal into an Uru Metal Ingot, nuggets or a block. Ingots and blocks convert back and forth by crafting.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
Uru Metal also has its own part recipes, such as the axe head, and each one has its own cost. A dagger blade or knife blade asks for 90 of the molten metal, while the chestplate plates ask for 720.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Silent Unobtainium Plate
- 270× any molten uru metal

How does Silent Gear Metalworks work with other mods?
3 parts
In this pack, Silent Gear Metalworks connects to Silent Gear through its part and cast recipes, and to Productive Metalworks and the Allthemodium metals through Uru Metal. The Silent Gear quest chapter is built around its casts.[2][4]
Silent Gear: parts and casts
Making a cast uses a Silent Gear part together with any molten steel. The pack has changed these recipes, and they use the item casting recipe type from Productive Metalworks. For example, a Sword Blade and molten steel give you a Sword Cast.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Sword Blade
- 360× any molten steel
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/sword_cast
A Silent Gear part plus molten steel makes the cast.
It also works the other way round. Each cast can be turned back into its Silent Gear part, such as Sword Cast into Sword Blade. These use the mod's own gear casting recipe type, and the pack changed them as well.[4]
Sg Gear Casting (sgearmetalworks)
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/silentgear/sword_blade
The cast is turned back into a Silent Gear part.
The same pattern covers the rest of the list: tool heads, blades, limbs, armor plates, jewelry parts, the Tool Rod and the Tip Upgrade upgrade all have a matching cast, such as Pickaxe Cast, Helmet Cast and Tip Cast.[4]
Uru Metal and the Allthemodium metals
Molten Uru Metal comes from a fluid alloying recipe that the pack changed. It combines the Allthemodium molten metals Molten Allthemodium, Molten Unobtainium and Molten Vibranium with other tagged inputs, and the recipe below shows the exact inputs.[4]
Fluid Alloying (productivemetalworks)
90× Molten Allthemodium
90× Molten Unobtainium
90× Molten Vibranium
- 180× any meat
- 180× any molten heavy core
- 90× any molten tyrian steel
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:alloying/atm/molten_uru_metal
Once you have the molten metal, you can cast it with Productive Metalworks casts. An Ingot Cast gives you an Uru Metal Ingot, and a Nugget Cast gives you an Uru Metal Nugget. Both recipes were changed by the pack.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Ingot Cast
- 90× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: productivemetalworks:casting/ingots/sgearmetalworks/uru_metal
Molten Uru Metal also connects to Silent Gear parts through a pack-specific set of casting recipes. Each one takes a Silent Unobtainium Plate and molten Uru Metal, and gives you an Uru Metal Ingot plus a Silent Gear part. The recipes in the sources cover parts such as Axe Head, Mace Core and Necklace Chain.[4]
Item Casting (productivemetalworks)
Silent Unobtainium Plate
- 270× any molten uru metal
Recipe id: sgearmetalworks:casting/uru/axe_head
One of the Uru Metal part recipes, changed by the pack.
Quests
The Silent Gear quest chapter has quests for the casts, and each of them comes after the Casts quest. The task in each one is to obtain the cast, for example a quest in "Silent Gear" for the sword cast and a quest in "Silent Gear" for the katana cast.[2]
Some quests also explain what the part is for. a quest in "Silent Gear" covers the Tip Upgrade, which raises the mining level of a tool. a quest in "Silent Gear" describes the dagger as low damage with very high attack speed.[2]
Which All the Mons quests use Silent Gear Metalworks?
3 parts
This mod's quests all live in the pack's "Silent Gear" chapter, which has 69 quests. The mod adds the Casts that replace Silent Gear blueprints, so its quests sit in the middle of a Foundry setup path. Each cast quest simply asks you to get that cast.[2]
Step 1: Foundry setup
The chapter opens with "Silent Gear and Productive Metalworks" quest. It explains that the pack uses Silent Gear together with Productive Metalworks, so you need Casts and a Foundry instead of blueprints. The task is to get Fire Clay.[2]
Three quests come straight after that one: "Foundry Drains" quest, "Foundry Tanks" quest and "Foundry Controller" quest. Then "Building the Foundry" quest asks for Liquid Heating Coils and either Foundry Windows or Fire Bricks. "&zDyeable Foundry &zParts" quest follows that quest.[2]
After the Foundry is built, "Casting Items" quest asks for a Casting Table, a Casting Basin and a Foundry Tap. Next comes "Casts" quest, which asks for an iron ingot and coal. Its text says every cast is made by pouring steel onto an item in a Casting Table, and that you can get steel by melting steel items or by alloying iron with coal in the Foundry.[2]
Step 2: The cast quests
Every cast quest below comes after "Casts" quest, and each one asks for its own cast item. They can be done in any order. Here they are by group.[2]
- Melee weapons: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Ranged and utility: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Tools: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Armor and shield: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Jewelry: a quest in "Silent Gear", a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
- Parts: a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear".[2]
Several of these quests describe what the finished gear does. The sword is the basic sword with reliable damage and speed. The katana does more damage than a sword but is slower. The machete is slightly faster than a sword but does less damage. The dagger has low damage and very high attack speed, and it reduces the target's invincibility time. The knife has higher durability than a dagger but lower damage and speed. The spear does less damage than a sword but has longer reach.[2]
The Tip Cast quest explains the Tip Upgrade, which raises a tool's mining level. Its example is an Iron Pickaxe with a Diamond Tip Upgrade, which can then mine Obsidian and also gets a stat boost. The a quest in "Silent Gear" quest is tagged "3x3 Mining" and the a quest in "Silent Gear" quest is tagged "3x3 Digging!".[2]
What else follows Casts
The same Casts quest also leads to the Productive Metalworks casts (rod, gem, ingot, nugget, plate and gear), several Silent Gear blueprint quests and "Salvager" quest. The Salvager leads on to a quest in "Silent Gear" and a quest in "Silent Gear". The Material Grader leads to the Grader Catalyst quests and a quest in "Silent Gear", and the Alloy Forge leads to "Starlight Charger" quest with its pillar cap and catalyst quests. None of those later quests ask for items from this mod.[2]
