What is Connected Glass?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Connected Glass is a building-focused mod. It adds new glass blocks whose textures connect to neighboring blocks, so large windows look like one seamless pane instead of a grid of separate squares.[1]

This pack includes Connected Glass 1.1.14, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[2]

What it adds

The mod adds 4 new glass types. Each one comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a matching pane.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect.[1]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer-art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Tinted glass prevents light from passing through.[1]

Vanilla glass is not changed or replaced. The connecting types are extra blocks, so you can still use the regular vanilla textures whenever you want them.[1]

Who it is for

It is for builders who want cleaner windows, greenhouses and skylights. It is purely cosmetic, apart from the light-blocking behavior of tinted glass, so you don't need it to progress. You can use it as much or as little as you like.[1]

Where it fits in progression

The sources I have show Connected Glass only as an included mod. They don't show any quests that use it, or any role in the pack's progression.[2]

Unverified Crafting recipes for the Connected Glass blocks in this pack could not be confirmed from the available sources, so none are listed here.

How do you get started with Connected Glass?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.2 guide

Connected Glass is a building mod. It adds new glass blocks whose textures join up when you place them side by side, so big windows look like one clean sheet instead of a grid of framed squares. It doesn't touch vanilla glass. It adds extra blocks, so you keep the vanilla look whenever you want it.[1]

You'll run into 4 glass types. Each one comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a pane version.[1]

  • Connecting Glass uses the regular glass textures, but blocks that touch connect.[1]
  • Clear Glass is a clear version of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass brings back the old programmer art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass has connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures, and it stops light from passing through.[1]

Step 1: Make your first colored Connecting Glass

Start by picking a color for your build and making the full block, like Connecting Blue Stained Glass. In this pack each colored Connecting Glass block has more than one crafting recipe. One starts from plain Connecting Glass, so check each recipe and use whichever matches what's already in your chests.[3]

Step 2: Turn it into panes

Next, make panes for your window frames and thinner details. Each colored pane, like Connecting Blue Stained Glass Pane, has several recipes in this pack. One is made from the full connecting block you just crafted, which is why it pays to make blocks first. Another dyes a plain Connecting Glass Pane.[3]

6 × Connecting Blue Stained Glass

Step 3: Branch out into other colors

Once one color works, the others follow the same setup. For example, Connecting Black Stained Glass, Connecting Cyan Stained Glass and Connecting Lime Stained Glass each have matching block and pane recipes. Look up the color you want and you're set.[3]

Tip: Connected Glass adds extra blocks and doesn't replace vanilla glass. You can mix connecting and vanilla glass in the same build whenever you want a framed look in one spot.[1]

Unverified The recipe for plain, uncolored Connecting Glass and the recipes for Clear, Scratched and Tinted Glass weren't in the recipe excerpt available for this guide, so they aren't shown here. The number of blocks or panes each recipe gives is also unconfirmed. Check the in-game recipe viewer for those. This site does hold All the Mons's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Connected Glass work?

2 parts

Connected Glass is a purely decorative mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to learn. Everything it does is about glass blocks whose textures join up when they touch.[1]

The four glass types

The mod adds 4 new types of glass block. Each one comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a matching pane.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect, like Connecting Glass and Connecting Glass Pane.[1][4]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1][4]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer art glass textures.[1][4]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Tinted glass prevents light from passing through.[1][4]

Vanilla glass is not changed. The mod adds extra blocks next to it, so you can still use the vanilla textures whenever you like.[1]

Crafting and dyeing

Everything here is made in the crafting grid. The pack's recipe dump lists 119 shaped recipes that turn Connected Glass items into other Connected Glass items. It also lists 35 shaped recipes that turn vanilla items into Connected Glass blocks.[5]

Black is a good example of the pattern. A vanilla black stained glass block gives you 4 Connecting Black Stained Glass.[5]

Crafting Shaped

4 × Black Stained Glass

Recipe id: connectedglass:borderless_glass_black1

You can also dye plain connecting glass, which gives 8 of the colored blocks per craft.[5]

To get panes from a colored block, craft it into 16 panes at once.[5]

6 × Connecting Black Stained Glass

Recipe id: connectedglass:borderless_glass_black_pane3

Tip: The other colors follow the same pattern. The dump shows the same 4, 8 and 16 yields for blue and brown, and 16 panes per block for cyan, gray and green.[5]
Tip: If you use Sodium older than 0.6, the mod page says you also need Indium for the connecting textures to work. Sodium ignores the Fabric Rendering API, and Indium patches it back in. Whether this applies to your setup in this pack is not covered by the sources.[1]

Unverified The sources do not describe any other mechanics for this mod beyond the glass blocks, panes and their recipes. No config options for it are listed in the pack.

How do you progress through Connected Glass?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.2 guide

Connected Glass has no tech tiers to climb. Every block in this pack comes from a crafting table recipe, and each one is the mod's own recipe rather than a pack-specific change. The progression is really a set of conversion routes: turn ordinary glass into its connecting version, then branch out into colours and panes.[3]

Step 1: Clear connecting glass and panes

Your base block is Connecting Glass, and every coloured version can branch off it. For panes you have two routes. You can convert a vanilla glass pane directly into Connecting Glass Pane, or you can craft panes from your Connecting Glass blocks.[3]

Step 2: Stained connecting glass

Each colour of stained connecting glass has two recipes. You can convert the matching vanilla stained glass, or you can dye your clear Connecting Glass. The dye slot accepts any item in the matching colour dye tag, so dyes from other mods in the pack should work as long as they're tagged for that colour.[3]

4 × Blue Stained Glass

The same two routes exist for the other colours, for example Connecting Black Stained Glass, Connecting Cyan Stained Glass, Connecting Lime Stained Glass, Connecting Magenta Stained Glass and Connecting Purple Stained Glass. Their recipes follow the same naming pattern, ending in 1 for the vanilla conversion and 2 for the dye recipe.[3]

Step 3: Stained connecting panes

Coloured panes give you the most options, with up to three routes each. You can convert the vanilla stained glass pane of that colour, dye a clear Connecting Glass Pane, or craft panes from the matching stained connecting glass block.[3]

4 × Green Stained Glass Pane

6 × Connecting Green Stained Glass

Tip: If you already have a stack of clear Connecting Glass, dyeing it is the easiest way to get colours. You don't need a separate batch of vanilla stained glass for every colour you want in your build.[3]

Unverified The recipe dump shown here is truncated, so the exact recipe for clear Connecting Glass itself, and any other glass styles the mod may add in this pack, could not be confirmed.

How does Connected Glass work with other mods?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide

Connected Glass adds its own glass types, and this pack ties them into two other mods: Dyenamics and Friends for extra glass colors, and Hostile Neural Networks for a multiblock that needs black glass.[6][7]

Dyenamics and Friends colors

The pack adds shaped crafting recipes that let you dye Connected Glass in the extra colors from Dyenamics and Friends. Each recipe takes a plain Connected Glass block and a dye of the matching color. The result is a colored block in the dyenamicsandfriends namespace.[6]

Connecting Glass, Clear Glass and their panes all have these colored versions. The colors are amber, aquamarine, bubblegum, cherenkov, conifer, fluorescent, honey, icy blue, lavender, maroon, mint, navy, peach, persimmon, rose, spring green, ultramarine and wine.[6]

Tip: Each of these recipes asks for any dye in the matching color dye group, so any item from that group works as the dye.[6]

Hostile Neural Networks Data Center

The quest "The Data Center" quest in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter comes after Creating Loot and has you build the Data Center, a 7x7x7 multiblock. Its walls and ceiling must be Black Stained Glass.[7]

The quest's glass task accepts several blocks. These Connected Glass blocks are on the list: Clear Black Stained Glass, Connecting Black Stained Glass, Connecting Tinted Black Stained Glass and Scratched Black Stained Glass. The list also includes Reinforced Black Stained Glass.[7]

The quest also says that Data Center IO Port blocks can take the place of Black Stained Glass in the structure.[7]

Watch out: Tinted glass in Connected Glass prevents light from passing through. The quest accepts the tinted black variant, so check that you're happy with that before you build.[1][7]

What changed in Connected Glass between versions?

1 part

All the Mons 1.1.1 ships Connected Glass 1.1.14, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. Here is what changed across the mod's own releases, newest first.[8]

Mod changelog

  • 1.1.14: The texture atlas size of Connected Glass textures was significantly reduced. Side section textures of pane blocks now only connect up/down when the pane above/below also has that side section. Spanish and Ukrainian translations were updated.[9]
  • 1.1.13: Fusion is now used for culling the top and bottom quads of glass panes.[9]
  • 1.1.12: Turkish and Ukrainian translations were added, and glass was added to the appropriate c: glass tags.[9]
  • 1.1.11: Initial release of Connected Glass for Minecraft 1.20.5 and 1.20.6.[9]

The version in the pack is the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21, so you are on the latest release listed in the mod's changelog.[8][9]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Connected Glass were available, so any changes made to it between All the Mons releases are unverified.
