What is Connected Glass?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Connected Glass is a building-focused mod. It adds new glass blocks whose textures connect to neighboring blocks, so large windows look like one seamless pane instead of a grid of separate squares.[1]

This pack includes Connected Glass 1.1.14, built for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.[2]

What it adds

The mod adds 4 new glass types. Each one comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a matching pane.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect.[1]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer-art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Tinted glass prevents light from passing through.[1]

Vanilla glass is not changed or replaced. The connecting types are extra blocks, so you can still use the regular vanilla textures whenever you want them.[1]

Who it is for

It is for builders who want cleaner windows, greenhouses and skylights. It is purely cosmetic, apart from the light-blocking behavior of tinted glass, so you don't need it to progress. You can use it as much or as little as you like.[1]

Where it fits in progression

The sources I have show Connected Glass only as an included mod. They don't show any quests that use it, or any role in the pack's progression.[2]

Unverified Crafting recipes for the Connected Glass blocks in this pack could not be confirmed from the available sources, so none are listed here.

How do you get started with Connected Glass?

4 parts

Connected Glass adds brand-new glass blocks whose textures connect to their neighbours. It does not touch vanilla glass, so everything you already have keeps working. Every new block comes in all 16 colors and has a matching pane.[1]

There is no big progression here. You start with glass you already own and convert it into the style you like, so your first steps are really just picking a look.[1][3]

Which look do you want?

First: vanilla stained glass to clear glass

In this pack the clear stained glass is crafted with a shapeless recipe that the pack adds. Black is a good example, and panes have their own matching recipes too.[3]

Next: clear glass to connecting glass

Next you turn the clear glass into the connecting version, which is the one that merges into big seamless windows. This is another shapeless recipe added by the pack, and panes work the same way.[1][3]

Last: connecting glass to scratched glass

If you like the retro look, the pack has a recipe that converts connecting glass into scratched glass. It exists for the plain glass and for every color.[1][3]

Tip: Check the recipe for the exact color you want before you stock up. The black, blue and brown versions of the steps above are confirmed in the pack's recipes, and the connecting-to-scratched step is confirmed for all 16 colors.[1][3]

How does Connected Glass work?

3 parts

Connected Glass is about glass blocks and how their textures look, so this section is short. The sources describe no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation for the mod. What matters is how the glass connects and how you get the different variants in this pack.[1]

How the glass connects

The mod adds new glass blocks with connecting textures: touching blocks connect. It does not change vanilla glass, so the vanilla blocks stay as they were. If you want vanilla glass to connect, the mod's own page points you to a different mod, Fusion, together with one of the resource packs listed on Fusion's page.[1]

The glass types

The mod adds 4 types of glass blocks, and each type is available in all 16 colors. All of the blocks also have panes.[1]

Getting variants in this pack

The pack adds its own shapeless crafting recipes through KubeJS to convert between glass types. Some turn vanilla stained glass and stained glass panes into the clear variants. Others turn the connecting variants into the scratched variants. The recipes shown in the pack's recipe dump cover blocks and panes separately, with one recipe per color and per shape.[3]

Tip: Panes have their own conversion recipes that follow the same pattern as the full blocks, for example the black pane recipes for clear and scratched glass, so you can convert panes directly.[3]

How do you progress through Connected Glass?

2 parts

Connected Glass has no tiers in the usual sense in this pack. What the sources show is a chain of glass styles that you convert from one to the next, and every conversion I can see is a recipe the pack added.[3]

The glass chain

The conversions are all shapeless recipes, and each is tagged as added by the pack. Here is the order, using black glass as the example.[3]

  1. Start with vanilla stained glass, such as Black Stained Glass. It converts into the Clear version, Clear Black Stained Glass.[3]
  2. The Clear glass converts into the Connecting version, Connecting Black Stained Glass.[3]
  3. The Connecting glass converts into the Scratched version, Scratched Black Stained Glass.[3]

Panes and colors

Panes follow the same path as full blocks. For example, Clear Black Stained Glass Pane converts into Connecting Black Stained Glass Pane, and that converts into Scratched Black Stained Glass Pane.[3]

The Connecting to Scratched step shows up for every color in the recipe list, plus uncolored glass. Connecting Glass converts into Scratched Glass, and Connecting Glass Pane converts into Scratched Glass Pane.[3]

What changed in Connected Glass between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Connected Glass 1.1.14, and that mod version was already in the pack as of StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier. The changes below come from the mod's own changelog.[4]

Mod changes

  • 1.1.14 (the version in this pack): the texture atlas size of Connected Glass textures was significantly reduced. Side section textures of pane blocks now only connect up/down when the pane above/below also has that side section. Spanish and Ukrainian translations were updated.[4][5]
  • 1.1.13: Fusion is now used for culling the top and bottom quads of glass panes.[5]
  • 1.1.12: Turkish and Ukrainian translations were added, and glass was added to the appropriate glass tags in the c namespace.[5]
  • 1.1.11: the initial release of Connected Glass for Minecraft 1.20.5 and 1.20.6.[5]

If you build with glass panes, the 1.1.14 change is the one you will notice most: stacked panes only join their side sections vertically when both panes have that section.[4][5]
