What is Connected Glass?

2 parts

Connected Glass adds new glass blocks whose textures connect to their neighbours, so a wall of glass looks like one big pane instead of a grid of squares. It doesn't touch vanilla glass: you keep the normal blocks and get these extras on top. This pack ships version 1.1.14.[1][2]

What it adds

There are 4 glass types, each in all 16 colors, and every block also has a pane version.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect.[1]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Like vanilla tinted glass, it stops light from passing through.[1]

The black variants in this pack are Connecting Black Stained Glass, Clear Black Stained Glass, Scratched Black Stained Glass and Connecting Tinted Black Stained Glass.[3]

Where the quest book uses it

Connected Glass has no quest chapter of its own. It shows up in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter, in the quest "The Data Center" quest. That quest comes after "Creating Loot" quest, and no other quest in the chapter lists it as a prerequisite.[3]

The Data Center is a 7x7x7 multiblock, and its walls and ceiling must be Black Stained Glass. The quest accepts any of the four black Connected Glass blocks above for that part of the build, so you can pick whichever look you like. A reinforced black stained glass from another mod is accepted too.[3]

Tip: The Data Center quest also covers the obsidian floor, the controller and the IO Ports. The quest itself says the controller may substitute one bottom-wall block and IO Ports can substitute Black Stained Glass.[3]

How do you get started with Connected Glass?

2 parts

Connected Glass doesn't change vanilla glass. It adds new glass blocks whose textures connect when they touch. There are 4 new glass types, each in all 16 colors, and every block also has a pane version.[1]

In this pack, the first thing worth making from this mod is black glass. The quest "The Data Center" quest sits in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter right after Creating Loot, and the multiblock it describes needs black stained glass for its walls and ceiling.[3]

Why black glass comes first

The Data Center is a 7x7x7 multiblock, and its walls and ceiling must be black stained glass. The quest accepts Connecting Tinted Black Stained Glass, Connecting Black Stained Glass, Clear Black Stained Glass, Scratched Black Stained Glass or SecurityCraft's reinforced black stained glass. So you can pick whichever look you like.[3]

Your first crafts, in order

  1. Make Connecting Black Stained Glass. The pack adds its own recipe for it, shown below, and the mod's own dye recipe also works.[4]
  2. Optionally turn it into Clear Black Stained Glass for the clear look.[1][4]
  3. Optionally turn that into Scratched Black Stained Glass for the old programmer art textures.[1][4]
  4. Optionally make Connecting Tinted Black Stained Glass, the tinted version, from its own recipe. Tinted glass stops light from passing through.[1][4]

Tip: Panes exist for every glass type. For example, Connecting Black Stained Glass Pane has its own recipes, so you can make panes whenever you want windows.[1][4]
Watch out: Glass is only part of the Data Center build. The floor must be Obsidian, the controller may substitute one bottom-wall block, and IO Ports can substitute black stained glass. Check the quest's tasks before you place anything.[3]

How does Connected Glass work?

3 parts

Good news: there's nothing to wire up here. Connected Glass has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation. As far as the sources describe it, the mod only adds decorative glass blocks and panes whose textures connect to neighbouring blocks.[1]

What the mod adds

Connected Glass adds 4 new types of glass block with connecting textures. Each type comes in all 16 colors, and every block also has a pane version.[1]

  • Connecting Glass: the regular glass textures, but touching blocks connect. Connecting Glass is the base block of this type.[1]
  • Clear Glass: clear versions of the regular glass textures.[1]
  • Scratched Glass: the old programmer-art glass textures.[1]
  • Tinted Glass: connecting, colored versions of the tinted glass textures. Tinted glass prevents light from passing through.[1]
Tip: The mod does not change vanilla glass. It only adds extra blocks, so your vanilla glass keeps its normal look. If you want vanilla glass to connect, the mod page points to Fusion with one of the resource packs listed on Fusion's mod page.[1]

Crafting and dyeing

In this pack, the colored Connecting Glass blocks and panes have several crafting routes. The black variants are shown below as an example, and the other colors in the recipe list follow the same naming pattern.[4]

To dye a Connecting Glass block, use this recipe. The result is Connecting Black Stained Glass.[4]

There are three routes to a colored pane such as Connecting Black Stained Glass Pane. The first converts a vanilla stained glass pane.[4]

Crafting Shaped

4 × Black Stained Glass Pane

Recipe id: connectedglass:borderless_glass_black_pane1

The second dyes a plain Connecting Glass Pane.[4]

The third turns the matching colored glass block into a pane.[4]

Crafting Shaped

6 × Connecting Black Stained Glass

Recipe id: connectedglass:borderless_glass_black_pane3

The same set of recipes appears in the dump for blue, brown, cyan and gray, and the dump also lists green and a light blue pane. The listing is truncated, so I can't confirm every color or every glass type from what I have.[4]

Rendering note

The mod page says that if you use a version of Sodium older than 0.6, you also need Indium. Sodium replaces vanilla rendering and ignores the Fabric Rendering API, and Indium patches Sodium to support it.[1]

Unverified Whether this applies to this pack's setup (loader, Sodium version, or whether Indium is needed) isn't confirmed by the available sources.

Unverified The pack's recipes for Clear, Scratched and Tinted Glass, and any configuration options, aren't covered by the available sources. There are no config files for this mod in the pack.

How do you progress through Connected Glass?

3 parts

In the sources for this pack, Connected Glass has no tier ladder to climb. The only quest that touches it is in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter, so the progression here is really about when you need black glass.[3][4]

The quest that uses it

The one quest that involves this mod is "The Data Center" quest, in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter. It comes after the Creating Loot quest. It's a 7x7x7 multiblock, and its walls and ceiling have to be black stained glass. The floor must be obsidian, the controller can replace one bottom-wall block, and IO Ports can replace black glass blocks.[3]

The quest's glass task accepts several blocks: Connecting Tinted Black Stained Glass, Connecting Black Stained Glass, Clear Black Stained Glass and Scratched Black Stained Glass. Reinforced black stained glass from SecurityCraft is accepted too. The task lists them as alternatives, so pick whichever look you like.[3]

Getting black glass in this pack

The pack adds its own recipe for Connecting Black Stained Glass.[4]

This recipe is added by the pack, not by the mod.

The mod also has its own recipe for the connecting black glass.[4]

Clear Black Stained Glass has two recipes:[4]

Scratched Black Stained Glass also has two recipes:[4]

And Connecting Tinted Black Stained Glass has one:[4]

Tip: Each of these black variants is accepted by the glass task in The Data Center, so you only need to craft the one whose look you like best for the walls and ceiling.[3][4]

Other colors

Beyond black, the pack's recipe list also covers connecting glass and connecting panes in the other dye colors. The quest sources here don't tie any of them to a quest.[3][4]

How does Connected Glass work with other mods?

2 parts

Connected Glass links up with the rest of the pack in two ways: extra dye colors from Dyenamics and Friends, and the glass walls of the Hostile Neural Networks Data Center.[3][4]

Dyenamics and Friends colors

Connected Glass comes in the 16 standard colors on its own. On top of that, the pack adds crafting recipes that turn its glass into Dyenamics and Friends colors: amber, aquamarine, bubblegum, cherenkov, conifer, fluorescent, honey, icy blue, lavender, maroon, mint, navy, peach, persimmon, rose, spring green, ultramarine and wine. The results use the dyenamicsandfriends namespace rather than the connectedglass one.[1][4]

The recipe dump shows both the Connecting and Clear glass types in all of those colors, as full blocks and as panes. For example, you can make Connecting Amber Stained Glass from Connecting Glass, and Clear Amber Stained Glass Pane from Clear Glass Pane.[4]

Scratched glass has just one Dyenamics and Friends recipe in the dump: Scratched Amber Stained Glass Pane.[4]

Hostile Neural Networks: The Data Center

The quest "The Data Center" quest sits in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter, right after Creating Loot. It describes the Data Center as a 7x7x7 multiblock that combines the Simulation Chamber and the Loot Fabricator, and it can handle 25 Self Aware Data Models at once. The walls and ceiling must be Black Stained Glass, and the quest's glass task accepts these Connected Glass blocks:[3]

The same task also accepts SecurityCraft's reinforced black stained glass, so you can mix in whichever of these suits your build.[3]

Tip: The quest says the controller may substitute one bottom-wall block, and IO Ports can substitute Black Stained Glass. Keep that in mind when you plan the walls.[3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Connected Glass?

3 parts

Connected Glass shows up in exactly one quest in the pack, and it sits in the Hostile Neural Networks chapter. That chapter has 47 quests in total, so here is the route that leads to the glass.[3]

The route through the chapter

  1. "Welcome to Hostile Neural Networks!" quest opens the chapter and asks for redstone. It explains that you collect data on mobs, then run simulations from that data to create their drops.[3]
  2. "Learning Mobs" quest asks for the Deep Learner, and "Modeling Mobs" quest asks for the Model Framework. Both come after the welcome quest.[3]
  3. "Simulating Deaths" quest comes after those two and asks for the Simulation Chamber and the Prediction Matrix. "Leveling Up Data Models" quest also follows them and asks for a Data Model.[3]
  4. "Creating Loot" quest comes after Simulating Deaths and asks for the Loot Fabricator. Three Generalized Prediction quests also branch off Simulating Deaths: Nether, Overworld and End.[3]
  5. A long run of Prediction quests follows Creating Loot, each asking for a Prediction. "The Data Center" quest, the Data Center quest, also unlocks after Creating Loot.[3]

The Data Center quest

This is where Connected Glass comes in. The quest asks for the Data Center and the Data Center IO Port. It also has a glass task that accepts any one of several black glass blocks.[3]

The accepted Connected Glass blocks are Connecting Tinted Black Stained Glass, Connecting Black Stained Glass, Clear Black Stained Glass and Scratched Black Stained Glass. A reinforced black stained glass block from SecurityCraft is accepted too, so you can pick whichever look you like.[3]

The quest describes the Data Center as a 7x7x7 multiblock that combines the Simulation Chamber and the Loot Fabricator. It can handle 25 Self Aware Data Models at once and produces loot directly instead of Mob Predictions.[3]

Building it with the glass

  • The floor (first layer) must be made of Obsidian. The quest text points you to its Obsidians task to see which forms of Obsidian the Data Center accepts.[3]
  • The walls and ceiling must be Black Stained Glass, which is the slot the Connected Glass blocks fill.[3]
  • The controller may replace one bottom-wall block, and IO Ports can replace Black Stained Glass.[3]

What changed in Connected Glass between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Connected Glass 1.1.14, and the mod has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier. Here's what changed in the mod's own releases, newest first.[2]

Connected Glass 1.1.14 (the version in this pack)

  • The texture atlas size of Connected Glass textures was significantly reduced.[5]
  • Side section textures of pane blocks now only connect up/down when the pane above/below also has that side section.[5]
  • Spanish and Ukrainian translations were updated.[5]

Earlier releases

  • 1.1.13: Fusion is now used for culling the top and bottom quads of glass panes.[5]
  • 1.1.12: Turkish and Ukrainian translations were added, and glass was added to the appropriate c: glass tags.[5]
  • 1.1.11: Initial release of Connected Glass for Minecraft 1.20.5 and 1.20.6.[5]

Unverified No pack changelog entries mentioning Connected Glass were available, so any changes to the mod made specifically by the pack across its releases are unconfirmed.
